I bought this for mountain biking It was fairly expensive UI is difficult to understand Doesnt flow smoothly Not all maps in my area are clearly readable I had purchased MotionX initially which I really liked for much less money I thought this one would be better because it costs about 7 times more Its not A clear example of not getting what you payed for MotionX is much better easier to use and cheaper           Not the best

This is a terrible application Very poor maps and bad functionality I want my money back     GPS USA

The UK search and rescue guys use this app I have tried just about every Topo map app out there and this is the best by far Packed with features and has the ability to switch maps on the fly You can create move and edit POIs and waypoints on the map using your finger Shows time distance elevation Nothing else compares iPhone essential for any outdoors hiker                 The UK search and rescue guys use this app The Best Topo Map App Of Them All

Maps are invisible in day light and app has no illumination control Developer refuses refund                 Wasted money

Viewranger is the real deal one can actually find things in the hinterlands The unknowledgeable complain about rasterizer maps and zoom levels but this apps are the same as the next best thing Garmin handheld and wildly less expensive than big Gs heartburn maps If you must have something better than this just know that even if a handheld allows you to overzoom the real data points are no better than what this app offers and youll have to work off a paper 7 min USGS topo map If you might wander out of a data connection then preload any maps youre going to need into your phones storage and youll be fine However just like a handheld GPS running this app w active GPS on will smoke the battery in nothing flat so carry a backup power source Best customer service Ive experienced                 Awesome real mapping real deal features

I love this app I got it to record my favorite hiking trails it is easy to use Easier than most I do wish I could sync my hikes with my fitness pal which is why I ranked it with 4 stars instead of 5              Love this App

I use this and MapMyRide to track bike rides They both work great but i really like the topos and detail available with Viewranger The tracks work great to log rides The premapped routes are soso and not plentiful in my area but that doesnt detract from the other functions                 So far so sweet

I came across Viewranger as I was looking for a way to plan out a scout canoeing trip to the boundary waters I was able to plan the route by each day for miles on the water with portages and download maps to my iPad for use during the trip While on the water I could follow the route check pace progress and waypoints Each night we could review the data and look at the next days plan What a fantastic app                 Bwca planning and route tracking via viewranger

Without question this is the most complete app ever for hiking biking running etc Download maps for when out of range of cell tower or WIFI Many settings allow customization for each individuals needs Trip info can show many many parameters Really whatever you wantneed to know can be displayed Excellent maps Share with friends Display photos It is all here                 Best App Ever Very Comprehensive

I have a lot of GPSmapping apps on my iPad I have been searching the one app that will do all the things I want for hiking When I read the description of this app I got excited because it said it had the ability to create routes in the app a feature I have been searching for I was worried by the 10 price and the fact that they charge for the maps some credits are included so the first downloads are free but I figured that if the app worked well it would be worth it I purchased the app and was annoyed that right off the bat that the first thing it prompted me to do was agree to some license terms and conditions and then it prompted me to set up an account Next I quickly found the interface to be awkward Look at the screen shots for the app and notice that there are zoom in and zoom out buttons Whats up with that Did the developers not get the memo about pinch to zoom in iOS When I tried pinching to zoom on the builtin default map it didnt seem to work at least not reliably so I actually started using the zoom buttons which seemed to work though the screen refresh at each zoom step seemed to be the slowest I had seen in any mapping app The builtin map had no detail so I decided to try and download the topo map for a local hiking area I figured out how to turn on the map download grid but the builtin map would not zoom in enough to actually pick a topo map to download I downloaded the free 1500000 map for the western US After download the map it took 12 seconds to load on the screen on my iPad 2 Not a good sign When I tried to zoom on that map the refresh speed at each zoom level was extremely slow on the order of 15 seconds or more for each zoom step though a few zoom steps took only 25 seconds to load I zoomed in on the hiking area I wanted and then tapped the button to turn on the download map grid so I could download the topo map Crash Launch the app again and what do I get The license agreement and the setup an account popup Again I slowly zoomed in on my hiking area again tapped the button to show the map download grid and crash again I tried one more time with the same results and then gave up 10 down the drain     Disappointing

Very useful App Was able to use iPad to save all of my POIs with the satellite view then export them to use on the iPhone in offline mode when Im in the woods without cell coverage Gave 5 stars based on the promise of POI support via PC                 Hunters Dream Come True

Note gps not always going to connect The receiver is just not what you get with a beefier GPS device But for a phone app it is a great bang for the buck and I enjoy the maps and ability to download tiles to my phone for offline use as well as printing to a paper map Good stuff                 Everything it says it is

This new version is great just get it The new maps are awesome and scrolling is quick and easy The online database of available trails and routes is growing and you can easily create and share routes from within the app It also includes the ability to track your friends when you have network coverage Great job guys                 Awesome update to a great GPS mapping tool
