Very difficult to zoom in on an area app pans away from centered area Layers do not provide information when selected in map view Do not recommend     Poor Zoom and Layer Information Geoguy59
Zooming in changes the centerpoint This makes the application unusable because a small zoom scale requires hundreds of swipes to return to the area of interest Waste of money for a serious user Avoid at any price until issue is fixed     Waste of money for serious user Geologist20000
The positive reviews must be from relatives and friends This is a complete waste without reworking the zoom capabilities This is a terrible app I wasted 5 Very generalized geologic map is essentially useless If you load a more detailed state geologic map there is no way to zoom in enough to see any detail Zooming in shifts area of interest off of the screen This is amateurish work There is no way to center on the gps location Really I ve never seen a gps capable app without this simple feature What is worse is the fact that it is literally impossible to zoom into a specific location So you can see where you are in the northeast US but can never get to a particular state This is the worst iPad navigation I ve seen Do not waste your money or time on this app     Unworkable unusable Stretchedpebble
Terrible app unless you want to know what s going on on the other side the country because when you turn on location services it takes you 10 minutes locate the map in the center of the screen so you can see it And don t try to turn on later are you going to start all over     Don t waste your time it is a very frustrating app Fowl Hunting
Zooming moves the centerpoint usually shifting the area of interest right off the screen Dragging to get back to the area of interest requires experience and talent my current theory is that a long touch followed by a slow drag keeping the touch until the map shows up may help On an iPhone 4s that s pretty much the end of the story On an iPad mini 2 zooming and dragging are workable but not great Makes me wonder if the app is redrawing the entire world space instead of just the view window Vector maps can perform better than typical raster tile maps so being vector is no excuse Nor would that explain the awful UI nor the non sticky settings The only explanations I can think of are inexperienced programmers and no respect for users Needed fixes Zoom centered on screen or between pinch touchpoints Turning on location services should provide an option to center map at location duh Sticky settings So it looks like until the developers get their act together I can t use this on the 64gb 4s I intended but only on a 16gb device that doesn t really have room for it Sigh             Unusable on older devices HrAlb
This could have been a great resource but poorly designed navigation makes it unusable The user can t zoom to a particular location because the map doesn t maintain center     Great idea bad app Kefalafel
Zoom is awful Takes three four or more tries Uses non intuitive map controls Moving map is jerky I spent so much time fighting the user interface I finally decided it s not worth the frustration I think the developer must be posting the good reviews Ex The map navigation on my iPad Air 1G is way over sensitive and constantly either undershoots or overshoots where you re trying to navigate to Right there makes trying use the app a real pain         Agreed not ready for prime time Eriptron
I bought the app and I find it very usable and one to work perfectly well I have noticed when it comes to zooming there are issues that need to be sorted however with a bit of patience you can zoom to wherever you like One thing to remember the maps are generated on the fly from millions of vector data and they are not images zooming in this case is very different I am amazed how fast 100 megabyte file of elevation contours are generated The user interface is very basic and simple but works perfectly Features like calculating distances area and adding the notes are very important to have I have not seen any other app related to geology like this Price is incredible I recommend it and give it 4 star                     Very Unfair to say unworkable and Unusable Skahroba
Won t zoom in to where I am without me constantly moving the screen around to find myself Awful geologic maps     Way too general Texcowgirl9
Excellent layering capabilities Significant improvement in zooming functionality Looks amazing on both the iPad and iPhone                     Great update KVaha
I was impressed with the first version now this version is even better and accessible on iPhone makes it a much more valuable tool especially not requiring Wifi or phone data for use Great accumulation of valuable data and unique features You can make any map by selecting geological units you are interested Brings great level of information to your finger tip I give it 5 stars                     Great Application Nasbagh
No apparent improvement in navigation issues mentioned previously Key info can be better integrated with source material for ease of access     Still Not Ready for Primetime Llister
Kind of like the unmaintained geograph series of state geologic maps this app relies on an internal GIS that includes 1 500 000 scale maps by state and a much lower resolution US map You can select which layers you want to show A long press on objects will yield some info in the title bar Unfortunately the execution is poor Zooming at least in the equal area projection becomes a misadventure as after zooming to about state level zooming in will put you somewhere far from where you were There is no display as you zoom in or out at these levels so you have no feedback as to where you go Some zooms seem tied to the NE corner The info from the long press is minimal So while this does cover the country and doesn t need Internet for use it is far from the best tool possible Arguably the old and lo res geograph state series is far better still though much more costly if covering a lot of states         Klunky Cjones-CU
Already use Mancos and the Geograph series for more local geological info This is a broader view and very flexible for dataset selection The UI needs a bit of work We were not able to zoom into eg Utah bouncing between California and the Arctic circle Suspect the UI will improve and so 5 stars for sure                     Great addition to localized geology SedonaDenise

An excellent tool First that have seen for iPhone The data is taken from USGS but the scale for each state is better at 1500000 I liked the note option for what you come across in a field which is unique a must have for any geologist or geology student Highly rated a must have                 Mr
