I wanted to write an article for a major food blog about this app but just couldnt recommend version 10 to readers In short its a good idea that needs work Small frustrations eventually ruin the experience and youll probably resort to using a traditional timer Make sure to read the fine print above including this gem As all ovens and turkeys are slightly different TurkeyTimer should be used in conjunction with and not in place of an instantread thermometer and your ovens builtin timer SHOW STOPPER As another reviewer pointed out this app Doesnt use push notifications so the only way it will tell you anything is if the app is running Basically if you start using any other app Safari Mail etc youll miss alerts Yes TurkeyTimer runs in the backgroundbut so will the alerts MAJOR SHORTCOMINGS Should advise you to preheat oven BEFORE starting timer What temperature should you use Well youll have to come back and read the apps fine print for that Seriously Launches you straight into Turkey Details and forces you to start a timerthen presents a Settings option after the timer has started Want to set your phone to vibrate use audio notifications etc Tough You have to start a new timer and input your turkey details all over again Uses a gauge instead of a countdown for the timer So even if your turkey takes an hour it shows a timer for 6 hours Visually consistent with the thermometer and browning gauges but a bad choice Particularly annoying when you get into the 30 minutes or less zonethe tiny demarcations dont give you a good idea of how much time is left MINOR SHORTCOMINGS Audio alerts dont make sense Why would I want a Stick a fork in it basting alert These kinds of things make it obvious the developer didnt think this app all the way through or do enough user testing In Settings the Alerts voice messages arent available until you turn Audio Notifications on I kept tapping them trying to get options These should appear when you have turned Audio Notifications on Never give a user an option to do something that isnt possible SUGGESTIONS Show user how changing Turkey Details affects the cooking time Its annoying to start new timers to figure this out Offer a dashboard view with countdown timer thermometer and browning gauge all on one screen Change SettingsVibrate to SettingsVibrate Alerts Offer some turkey tips Answer basic questions like Why would I want to cook a turkey to 145 degrees instead of 180 does having other food in the oven besides the turkey affect cooking time does adding stuffing increase chances of drying out turkey etc     Good idea terrible execution

This app is super easy to use and gives fantastic advice Worked great for a big bird Worth it for the Stick a fork in it sound alone                 Quality Turkeycooking help
