Not only it uses battery like crazy it also crashes other apps GPS even after we have turned TomTom off Had to do a restart every time I used it so I could use other apps that make use of the GPS 7900 thrown in the garbage would be a better use for the money     Crap

Im using the Tomtom Wester Eruope withoutahitch Sure there are a few small things I would like to see changed but most problems I have had have been fixed with help from the formums I really enjoy the Advanced Route planning tool I use this App on an iPhone 4 with a RAM mount on my Motorcycle I can detail exactly which road I want to take I wish there were a few more waypoints but I can stop for a few minutes to plan the next few waypoints The only thing I really dont like right now is how the map blinks to black during map browsing zoommove refreshes Also I would like to point out some of these reviewers giving one star need to read the Apps Details before dropping 50 on one application              Works as advertised

Last year I sent my Florida registered car to Europe and this nav worked ok The problem is most of the navs including this app takes you the longer way even if you choose the shortest I need the google maps to view shorter ways around This app needs a full map like google maps           Driving around

Its not perfect the lack of compass support on iPhone 4 is annoying and it was a bit clunky on my old iPhone 3 but TomTom Western Europe has been getting me around Western Europe for over a year now without any drama I use the car kit because I dont see how to safely and conveniently use the device as a nav aid otherwise The maps are relatively up to date and the software is reasonably reliable Ive had a few crashes while route planning but in over a year only had one lockup during driving and that was during an allday multicountry trip A restart took around 10 seconds and the device picked up on the location immediately and was right back navigating the same route right away Software updates are frequent and over the past year have fixed a few of the biggest annoyances Only one voice vaguely English accented female attempts to pronounce street and city names and it has gotten MUCH better over the past year with nonEnglish names and is laughably bad much less frequently Strange that its by a Dutch company and mangled trying to say Den Hague so badly until this last update I felt compelled to post a review because of all the 1star reviews I dont think that any of the 1star reviews were written by people familiar with GPS nav devices or their limitations If you want to drive around all of Western Europe like a local and be able to go on road trips without any sort of maps or hassles just buy the software and the car kit smack it on your windscreen and let it tell you where to go If you are expecting it to do other things well then maybe you might be disappointed but then again I dont know that any other GPS device would do any better This is basically just a software version of TomTom and lets you hit the road with one less digital device to worry about Nothing more nothing less Any software which turns on the GPS chip in the iPhone will cause increased battery usage and the device to heat up No GPS devices work reliably in city centers surrounded by highrise buildings GPS isnt in general accurate enough technology to use extensively for pedestrianscale walking tours and the idea of walking around a new city staring at my phone instead of looking around is a bit of a headscratcher to me people would try this really I did use it on foot this past weekend to find a restaurant in Luxembourg City center and it worked fine so I dont understand the complaints And if youve never tried to use a Garmin you really cant appreciate how userfriendly Tom Toms software is I recently bought my parents the latestgreatest Tom Tom standalone device and I cant tell any major differences between it and my iPhone app except for the price              Gets me around Western Europe without drama

Purchased this app from iTunes for use in Portugal Never got it to work It just endlessly searched for a signal Ended up using MapQuest I wanted a refund iTunes referred me to TomTom and guess what TomTom referred me to iTunes DO NOT waste 90     Unusable with no help from iTunes or TomTom

This 89 apps is awful for pedestrian navigation in a city and yes it has a pedestrian option the map 2D 3D or map browsing requires forward movement to know the direction you are facing instead of referencing the builtin iphone 3GS4 compass unlike google maps So if you have intermittent GPS signal you have no idea what direction you are headed I bought this app so i have my map of spain preloaded as not to require roaming data charges of 19USDMB you read correctly MB not GB the map scrolling and zoom are also terrible it is not smooth and requires the image to rebuild each time you move or zoom this does not make sense since all the map data is in resident memory no Edge or 3G required even google maps is smoother Im using this app with latest 141 update and the battery provided me about half day before completely drained and this is in airplane mode and the iPhone 4 feels like a portable heater I even tried rebooting several times thinking it was a Software hang you would think that this much energy draw would at least provide seamless compass GPS navigation If Tom Toms explanation is this app is meant for car kit Nav then why is it sold AND has a menu option for pedestrian Nav do not buy     Kills battery life on iPhone 4 and no compass reference

I bought this app for a trip to Europe since I wasnt going to have access to data I found the app unusable and instead relied on occasional hot spot access and google or apple maps The user interface is poor and the flickering refresh when browsing maps drove me nuts Combine that with a slow synch with GPS signal and you have an unusable product     Not worth the money wish I could return it

First off I have to say that I have only been using this app with the optional TomTom Car Kit That said I am absolutely content with the performance and quality of this app The maps are fairly new a traffic circle that had been built a few months ago wasnt shown yet but all the other roads and highways I have been using it on were all on it Directions are accurate and it rerouted me whenever I missed a turn The app gets a GPS signal after roughly 20 seconds or so and it is very accurate once it has acquired a GPS fix I have not used the HD traffic feature yet I love the fact that I have my navigation system with me at all times whether in my car or in a rental Used in conjunction with the Car Kit this app is at least as good as any standalone navigation system only more portable                 Beats any standalone navigation system when used with Car Kit

I recently visited France Italy England and Ireland and needed a GPS solution that did not require a data connection cant pay 1997 per megabyte thanks ATT This app found everything I threw at it and gave great instructions particularly for roundabouts which many from US do not encounter on a daily basis The walking directions were a serious lifesaver in the big cities when we needed help finding things The GPS acquisition was extremely fast on the iPhone 4S even with cellular data turned off The only complaint is that it was hard to determine the direction you are facing at the start of the walking route The app takes a guess but does not use the iPhones compass to show where you are aimed eg like the Yelp app does We often had to just start walking until it updated the screen and then adjust from there Even without a data connection the offline POI database was surprisingly able to find the majority of what we needed It had trouble with a few addresses but this is to be expected of any GPS app no maps are perfect or completely uptodate Overall I would recommend this app to anyone traveling to or living in Western Europe                 A real tripsaver

If you had an iphone 4 and the TomTom Car Kit which has the real GPS chip and yes it costs 100 it works 100 of the time with out fail and is perfectly accurate Spent 3 weeks top to bottom in Italy without error and no delays But if you are a cheap scap without the Car Kit it relys on the telephone towers and because the iphone 4 processor is sooooo sloooow if you loose the tower it can take a long time for the cheap GPS chip in the iphone to find itself The iphone 5 with much faster processsor is not prone to this However the iphone 5 does not fit the CarKit and requires a slight mod of the CarKit to attach the phone and utilize the Real GPS chip and bluetooth feature I have done this with my new phone and it works perfectly Went from San Jose to Palm Springs to San Diego and back without error                 Dont believe those one star reviews old iphone 4s and cheapskates to boot

Bought it for travel in Spain Live in North America Got to Spain couldnt get it to recognize my location Even out in a big park Went through instructions on line big time Finally stumbled across turn on location services for iPhone I dont see that in the instructions anywhere but I could have missed it But that is a huge issue getting it to work So turn on location services and if you are an ATT customer turn off data roaming etc Ok it then worked Generally quite good For instance in Tarragona it had us go what looked like 5 km out of our way to get to our hotel But that was because of one way streets and islands in the median that would forbid left turns So that part was a success I did not have the walking issues noted by others I did have battery issues I brought a plug in battery pack just to make it work more than 2 or 3 hours That was fine I looked over tomtoms web site to see if the car adapter thing which solves battery issue would work Same problem as location services Who knows Can you just put it in a rental car and not permanently attach it with adhesives I do not know and didnt buy it Id say it was quite good but not perfect For instance it wanted me to drive on to a new highway but the highway was not yet open for business I figured this out after I got home but it would be good for battery life to tell users how to turn it off Bottom line it was worth the money Could be MUCH Better with good instructions Would I buy another tomtom app Yes              Tomtom Western Europe

I am US based and got this for a trip to Europe I have ATT phone service and dont have international service So I left the phone in airplane mode Well the iPhone GPS needs phone service to get a fix in a reasonable amount of time I got a fix once while sitting in a park for about 1520 min So basically GPS is useless in areas where you dont have phone service This is the iPhones fault not TomTom Otherwise the software worked well I used the advanced planning feature a lot The app found most of the POIs that I was looking for TomTom provided good maps of the route So dont buy this for another country unless you have phone service there Its amazing how my six year old palm phone with a keychain Bluetooth external GPS unit and old TomTom software worked great last year Too bad the iPhone cut some corners and its GPS is a step backwards           Softwares good iPhone GPS stinks

Very easy to use and powerful I used this app with my bike several times this summer When planning any route you can select bicycle route option which will avoid high traffic roads and give time estimates at bicycle speed I found the route suggestions very good for biking and time estimates a little too pessimistic Though I ride probably faster than average and its better to estimate longer time than shorter time However there is one feature missing that makes it unusable for biking screen orientation lock When mounted on the bike handlebar the iPhone is flat or say slightly titled toward me Since its not perpendicular to the ground the orientation is not clearly defined and the iPhone will randomly switch screen orientations 50 of the time the iPhone display will be rotated 90 and impossible to use while biking              Bicycle mode not usable because misses orientation lock

Aside from the interface and battery life problems rightly highlighted by other happy users GPS reception is so choppy as pointed out by others as well that I am regularly given driving instructions for a position situated a few hundred yards away from my position which can be slightly distracting when you are trying to figure out your way and this does not happen in mountainous or dense urban areas where interference and poor signal could be blamed I have also been sent a few times towards oneway streets and driven on concretereal roads which according to Tomtom do not exist making me an instant explorer of sorts in the Belgian countryside My current grudge with this nice piece of software is an update for iOS4 compatibility the whole product apparently has a 18GB footprint and WITH THE APPLICATION INSTALLED I still have 26GB available on my iPhone 3G 16GB However bizarrely when I try to download the upgrade I am told that I do not have sufficient memory and am advised to delete videos and photos on my phone If not fixed I will be unable to travel with it for the holidays which is the reason I bought it in the first place TomTom declines to provide any help on this matter     Pretty awful

This product is an absolute waste of money I recently abandoned repeated attempts to use this product during a driving trip throughout England and ended up using the FREE Google maps app that was preloaded on my phone     President

Yesterday my husband and I took the Tom Tom Western Europe app for its first outing on a round trip between Perugia and Pisa Italy on an iPad 3 and couldnt be more pleased with its accuracy and ease of use I especially liked the lane information window that popped up at exits and junctions Also much appreciated is the ability to switch between the closein view and those that cover a wider area We have a Tom Tom Go 720 which about to be retired in favor of the iPad app Tom Tom doesnt supply any documentation but a PDF user manual can be downloaded couldnt do a copy and paste here do a Google search to find it Since I wasnt sure if the app was any good I downloaded only the Western Europe map set rather than the app for all of Europe but am now regretting this decision Tom Tom should offer current users the option of adding additional countries at a nominal charge                 Exceeds expectations

We land in Munich from South Africa and drive down to RomePompeiAsisiVenice Innsbruck and back to Munich and the Tom Tom work fantastic It was the best investment for our three week tour Danie              Eorope tour

Hello I have purchased TomTom Western Europe and TomTom Eastern Europe and it seems these both cant cooperate together I need to plan a trip across the borders between the West and the East I would like to not spend another money for TomTom Europe Is it possible to exchange TomTom Western Europe and TomTom Eastern Europe for just TomTom Europe In the time of separate purchases the complete version didnt exist Regards Zdenek                 Exchange two for one complete

Update V14 Traffic worked in the meantime took TT several weeks to figure out my problem until they deleted my TT profile Now I updated to V14 and amongst all the nice advertised benefits TT did not mention that they raised the daily HD traffic from 99c to 199US Nice try TT One star less again HD Traffic update 2 16 hours passed and still no activated traffic Needless to say I requested a refund from TT but do not expect that will be any faster HD Traffic update Back to one Star Bought traffic and it keeps saying that traffic is being activated now for one hour This must not be Worthless if I want to buy one day as I need this NOW and not in one week Update v13 finally all it needs Also traffic but that is way too expensive 65 bucks for one year That is Close to what the whole app costs Traffic for the US is 20 bucks and that would Be what I am willing to pay for that service Update for v12 Text to Speech is only available in English UK after I found out that I have to select a computer voice Where are the other languages promised in the App description Scrolling through my list of languages English UK is the only computer voice Lame Tomtom Not really getting any better With 11 the signal is stronger in towns and narrow streets addresses are now accepted from my contacts well tried 1 so far but at least that finally worked the displaymap is not so sluggish anymore while driving and did not tend anymore to vane left or right TomTom kept it straight in my direction           HD traffic too expensive and not working

Am I missing something here In previous version the app came with speed camera information Now I have upgraded it seems that this is no longer provided free and you have to buy a subscription to Speed Camera information Very bad that they have started to charge for a feature that was previously free     Pay for Speed Cameras

Ive been using the application in France and it has really helped me get around including staying off the toll roads The biggest problem Ive encountered is that in areas with a lot of roads in close proximity as happens a lot in Paris the location marker jumps to a different road and the app then tries to reroute me back to the road it just thought I was on It seems like a bit of hysteresis could help here              Works great with a few flaws

I was skeptical of iPhonebased navigation apps for a long time but I broke down and bought this one before a recent trip to the UK Wow I was impressed The maps were accurate I hooked the iPhone up to the Aux port in the car so the voice directions were amazing the speed limit indicator was invaluable the routes were accurate and easy to follow in almost every case Overall this app provided a great experience The only criticism I have is the ability to interact with the map manually the pinch to zoom feature is very jumpy and hard to use But since this is really only necessary when looking something up on the map and not in navigation mode its not that big of a deal                 Great navigation for W Europe

I drove over 2000km in Europe in the past two weeks and this app got me to my destination perfectly every single time It takes the stress out of navigation I highly recommend it I use it on an iPhone 4 and it works very well Tunnels would sometimes obscure the GPS satellites but any GPS has to deal with that Buy it if you dont want to deal with paper maps directions etc Best app on my phone                 Expensive but worth every penny

As others state dont buy unless planning on using your data plan as well I bought it for my Ipad for a trip to Amsterdam but as soon as I got in the car there was no GPS connection If I wanted to use google maps which I ended up using instead on my cellphone I would not had spent 50 plus on a useless navigation app Waiting for refund     Does not work without Internet connection

Purchased the app for a vacation in the Netherlands and Belgium The problem is that the voice wont work We tried everything with the settings in the app and iPad In all settings locations the volume is on Except on the map in the lower left corner the lips have a line through them and we cant find a way to fix this We are very unhappy considering the expense of the app We are MotionX sunscribers in the US and have never had such a problem with MotionX        Voice doesnt work

I bought this app to use it on the motorcycle The turn by turn voice guidance works well and the balance between enough information and unnecessary comments is well done However after only 2 hours my fully charged iphone 3GS is out of battery when using this app I did all the tricks turning off push no wifi screen off but 2 hours is it Even worse there is no notification by the app that it is shutting down due to low battery Can lead to bad surprises when driving longer distances Probably a nice app if you stick to using it in the car with a car adapter           only 2 hrs on battery

I have used the USA app and really like it I purchased the Western Europe one for a trip I was taking through Southern Germany Austria and Switzerland Being used to how TomTom works at home made this app a perfect choice Works identical so I wasnt learning a new GPS app and trying to drive too Everything was spot on the routes and rerouting worked perfect I never write reviews but felt compelled to write this because it made my driving in Europe so easy We put 1500 miles on our car in two weeks and never had any issues with the TomTom                 Flawless

I have had the TomTom app for about a yearIt worked for about 6 months After about 6 months it cant seem to get GPS reception I have not changed anything TomTom and Apple have not bothered assistingresponding when emailed about new problems with the app VERY DISAPPOINTED     Doesnt work

Bought it for a trip to Italy and it never worked It only locates you if you have WiFi or 3G But if you are planing on buying this an use it while driving in Europe without paying for international data you are wasting your Money     Waste of Money

Yes its a bit expensive app but it does exactly like tomtom devices and you dont need internet mostly while roaming in Europe it works perfectly                 The best offline navigator ever

I purchased TomTom so that I would have the maps on my phone not need to rely on data plan to download them In that respect it worked fine I also like the feature which shows which lane to be in makes navigating freeways here much easier However issues I have are 1 The speed camera app is worthless Dont waste your money When it does display something it just beeps displays an indeciperable icon with no indication of how far to the camera Waze is much better in this regard 2 The traffic data is even worse I thought it would adjust routes andor ETA based on traffic data but appears to do neither Again it beeps display an indecipherable icon when it thinks there is an issue It also beeps when you enter a construction area and again when you leave I went through an area in Italy where it was beeping about every 30 seconds because there were several construction sites along the route Very obnoxious I tried to turn it off but was unable to 3 The engine for displaying the maps when browsing the map is very old technology It is very slow and constantly redisplays the map when you expand or shrink Very frustrating to use 4 I bought just Western Europe because I did not expect to be driving in Eastern Europe Of course on my first trip I decide to go to Hungary and Slovakia And of course it was useless there also even when I was in Austria I couldnt use it because my end point was in Hungary Why not an inapp option to purchase maps for additional countries I would have been more than willing to pay a fair price But ended up using Waze           Could be a lot better

Unless you know the GPS works on your iPad do not buy this app Even then I would use caution It does not work Not sure where the problem lies but I will be asking for a refund I gave it 1 star but would have given it zero if I could have Actually it turns out that your IPhone works pretty well as a guide at least in Italy Luckily we had that to rely on but it did use up a bit of my data plan allowance Another issue is that when you enlarge the map this does work if you are connected to wifi but you cannot use it to drive anywhere names of cities disappear Say you find a city and want to zoom in in it City and street names will disappear And it always seems to be the one you were looking for more detail on     Do not buy

Expect to get in a lot of trouble with this app You will get lost miss turns take far more time than the trip should take location marker bouncing all over the place it was surreal in Rome and totally unusable Anyone doing a class action suit against this company I am on board The only good thing that can be said is that the other GPS apps I have used are equally awful     Poor

In the description is written there is IC Iceland on the map Just bought this app for our holidays on Iceland next month Started the app on the iPhone and I cant find Iceland on the map     No Iceland

I agree with others who have reviewed this and pointed out how bad the iPhone GPS receiver is I was using this software in France and Switzerland and the maps were very good but completely useless without a GPS signal I didnt realize how dependent the iPhone GPS position was on the cell phone tower location assistance I had no signal while driving in cities where I needed it the most Dont buy this unless you also plan on buying the 100 car kit I would recommend this more favorably if it worked with ANY Bluetooth GPS receiver and not just the TomTom Bluetooth GPS Car Kit        Software OK but useless without car kit
