The Oregonian, the largest newspaper in Oregon serving readers for more than 150 years, is now available in an electronic replica edition, seven days a week. Stay up on the latest news and information on ...
The Oregonian used to be a great paper The digital and print versions are just a shadow of the original paper The national and international news is pretty sketchy and they repeat articles too frequently They kept raising prices and reducing the news we finally just cancelled our subscription     Hard Times O reader
Neither the app nor the browser version works well I can t toggle between pages in The various sections they just come up blank Trying to print the Times crossword gives me half the puzzle grid ALL WORKED WELL UNTIL A FEW DAYS AGO The IT department needs to revamp the whole online edition I called the customer service number but no help there and they couldn t give me a number for further help from IT     Why am I paying for this Berdeez
The vendor that provided the Oregonian with this app has no clue how to write good code It doesn t remember where you were Signing on is virtually impossible The error messages are so cryptic you can t understand them If you are looking for a good paper reader forget this The only reason I m still trying is because I live in the metro area and want some local news     Worst App Ever 195472
Terrible app The process of reading the electronic edition of The Oregonian is not at all a natural process You must proceed through a maze of icons to get to different sections of the newspaper e g the sports section It takes 3 clicks to get to a section from the home page Whoever designed this app was probably also testing the Oregon Canabis at the same time In addition The Oregonian as a newspaper really isn t worth wrapping old fish remains in it     Clunky gechilds
For a newspaper that serves the Portland metro area and claims to provide news to the entire state of Oregon it lacks in substance and objectivity Politically I am an independent but the Oregonian like most of the newspapers in the U S is extremely biased toward ultra liberalism news and editorials         Pretty Poor Newspaper Tbonetom
I continue to subscribe because I want to support my local paper but this app needs some work The 1 improvement would be if it just kept me logged in I ve forgotten my login info and I don t see how to reset but I can fix it for awhile if I go thru the apple procedure to look at subscriptions in settings             needs work but I can live with it Abc98875
The latest release is an improvement but it also introduced some problems 1 When you let your iPad turn off while reading an article when you return the application reloads from the beginning and you have to page through to find where you left off This can happen numerous times during the course of getting through the news 2 The application closes unexpectedly and again you have to star over 3 There does not seem to be a way to share an article via a link maybe I just haven t figured it out Lastly why doesn t the Oregonian have a Contact where we can submit our feedback         Needs improvement Laura508
1 Asks for password nearly every day It should remember password 2 Article reader view on bottom half is too small Full page overlay window would be easier to read 3 Lately it does not list the current day edition so it s one day behind Useless     Disappointed Reviewer.Anonymous
While the previous version worked well the new version seems to forget my login and subscription info and every time I bring it up comes up with a screen that says user validated but offers a demo version and a chance to sign up for an iTunes subscription to the paper Worse than useless Incredibly frustrating Get a new update out SOON that is not broken     Do Not Update to version 2 7 7 Planner 1
Awful just like the print version Get the Register Guard instead     Awful Spaz-pdx
This so called app does not work though I ve paid through March 2017 Cannot log though I ve tried hundreds of times hoping All tech support is useless BEWARE THIS IS A SCAM APP     Never works up for worst app ever mjfulop
I ve been stuck using this app for a couple years now as they stopped paper delivery where I live This app is horribly written and only works some of the time Instead of using the iBooks tools the developer has tried to make their own app and has a done a terrible job What s worse is that the app is becoming less stable over time not better I think this show the Oregonian is NOT interested in keeping subscribers They act like they are out to protect and inform the citizens but their work is useless if people can t read it     Terrible bob9752
Title is for iPad but it runs on iPhone too Getting better Still a poor reading environment             No Stars Zero Stars ToddPDX
The app is useless I am unable to access the e edition after the app was upgraded I will be cancelling my subscription     Bad app Jose PDX
Okay I embarked on an endlessly frustrating journey to find out why like so many others I didn t have access to the paper via the iTunes app After four phone calls to the poor folks who staff the subscriber services who clearly know absolutely nothing about the iTunes app I was getting nowhere In a last stitch effort I messaged a friend of mine who s a columnist at the O and also messaged the Oregonian directly on Facebook They sent my complaint up the ladder and I finally got a call from a super nice lady who is clearly a contract employee but who knew exactly what the issue was iTunes requires that if you have a subscription app and sell it through iTunes they have to be able to sell subscriptions and get a kickback apparently iTunes hasn t their crap together with this new app I cancelled my iTunes subscription and set up a subscription directly with the Oregonian If you live outside the Portland metro area you have to call in to do that So some advice for SUBSCRIBERS do NOT get a subscription through iTunes Get it directly from the Oregonian OREGONIAN two things first you guys need to complain to iTunes I went through two weeks of annoying back and forth to finally figure out the answers Not many are going to do that Most are just gonna cancel and blame you guys Second it s ridiculous that you have to call in to get a digital subscription unless you live in the metro area And the way your subscription page is currently set up it comes across as if a digital subscription isn t even available unless you live in Portland metro which I know isn t the case I m glad I can read the O again but man they have some serious cleaning up to do with this app Also this has firmed up my decision to never ever own an apple product ever again after this iPad dies     It s an iTunes issue Apschwend
Make you wait 30 minutes or more to get a person Then they have no answers Wanted to know how I can can the Digital Version only on my iMac computer Website has only iPad and iPhone Apps and you have to subscribe to the physical Paper to get the digital That doesn t work for me They will be out of business soon I m afraid I ll stick to my WSJ     Forget Customer Service tallsweet
As is the case with many other reviewers I too have tried many times to access The Oregonian after subscribing through iTunes Nothing seems to work and there s no option for customer support Unbelievable that they would let this situation continue     Are they trying to lose readers Kellyr3281
Get rid of the split screen Screens on tablets are small enough This feature serves no purpose And take a look at the Obituary listing it is all messed up     Not great Pmargo
I wanted to confirm the message of others This app may work once or twice but will then in essence lock you out Not a good use of 20 or more of your earned money     Beware Gansdalen
First the signup shows a yearly 155 99 rate so I grabbed it Warning comes up about an auto renew at 239 99 at term end I accepted knowing I d go into settings and disable But the actual charge made on my iTunes account and hence credit card was the 239 99 I was overcharged by 84 and can t cancel online Still waiting for a callback from the Oregonian subscriber services Second I was able to immediately view the electronic addition yesterday This morning I got a subscribe page still showing the 159 99 rate I ll add instead The instructions say to select the payment method and select restore iTunes sub I did so and got back error inactive subscription Deleted app and reinstalled it and tried again same problem So not only was I charged 84 more than expected shown it only worked for ONE DAY and now shows inactive Oh yeah I did get called back by the Oregonian and they gave me a number for apple support and told me to ask for a full refund then sign up through the Oregonian site itself which you cannot do for just an electronic delivery I tried And no I don t have a refund yet I can t get through to a human This has been a nasty experience worst I ve had with both the Oregonian used to be a print subscriber but moved outside the delivery area and an app through iTunes     Terrible experience Bad, bad, bad!
The new iPad version is a nice upgrade visually However the requirement to sign in every few days is not user friendly My husband views it on a Mac It was not updating to the current edition nor is it saving his viewing preferences If the developers can get the bugs worked out it s a good way to read the paper If they can t it s not worth it I ll give it a few more weeks             Needs to be debugged Casual Girl
New pay app is enough to upset the Good Humor man Took my money Got excuses Can t read the paper Been a customer 30 yrs Too bad 1 star is the lowest rating Hope some responsible person reads this P S The free version worked fine     How disappointed Greasy Coletti
We are no longer able to access the Oregonian thru this app since the Oregonian upgraded to Oregonian Plus Our subscription is paid thru Sept 1 2017 thru iTunes I have talked with people at the Oregonian 3 times and no one can help me I m told that we just need to pay for a new subscription I can t file a complaint with iTunes since we renewed our subscription more than 90 days ago Very frustrated We did think that the problem was resolved on Monday this week when we could finally access the paper but we only had access for 3 days No longer even with a paid subscription Extremely frustrated     Oregonian Plus app doesn t work DCGuy_VA
A number of the reviews below that note the app has stopped working since the upgrade in early December 2016 are spot on In addition for new subscribers the app claims you can get it for 155 99 for a year But when you process the purchase it comes through at 239 99 I have a ticket open with itunes support But so far after a week I haven t heard anything from Apple other than were looking into it If I don t hear shortly I will process a dispute with my credit card company Recommend that others with problems do the same That financial pressure will probably be the only way to get their attention     The worst Jeff in the Pearl
The Oregonian s latest update is worse than ever Can t the Oregonian hire someone who either has successfully set up a digital product or who just knows how the NYT and other papers have done it The Oregonian s digital product has been like a third world product since it began with absolutely no improvement That s amazing     Worst newspaper web site Peter in Oregon
This app is a big improvement over the older browser based option I was using Terrific intuitive interface and loads quickly over my home Wifi                     Big improvement DonMc7
The app has worked very well for me It is easy to get a larger view by tapping on the article I have had no issues with it                     Works well 6Pearl
This is unusable Bring back the full screen single article option     Bring back the old app Oregongma
Just installed new version on my iPad Works as designed so far both Live News and ePaper version Some other regional newspapers based in other national markets use the same app and this works the same as those do A little slow but that may just be my current bandwidth availability I prefer this over the browser version as I can access this offline once I download a day s edition Still prefer an actual newspaper in my hands but when that s not available this is my preference                 Seems to work OK 1absurd1
Wow I didn t think the Oregonian could get any worse Having to log in every day to read the paper and waaayyyy too many bells and whistles keep it simple the news is hard enough to swallow     Zero stars Cancelling soon
I just tried to sign in again and again and again Ten attempts and still nothing The older version required a sign in once then it opened every morning without a pause This new version requires a daily sign in and like today sometimes it never connects I ve deleted the app because I m not willing to start my day with this amount of frustration Between this and the fact that my actual paper version doesn t show up to my house until an hour and a half after I ve left for work I swear that the owners are trying to drive the Oregonian into the ground What a sad shame to see such a great institution die a slow painful death Come on man what are we even doing here     No stars Seriously PDX Flak
Asks me to log on every time I open the app I subscribe to other digital news services that use the same platform and they are trouble free The email address to report issues can no longer be found in the paper Called the trouble number where a nice person talked to me and said he would transfer my call to tech support I was just dropped during the transfer The digital quality on the Sunday Comics pages were so poor as to be in readable Once in the app it generally works well Time for the big O to clean up the annoying bits         Annoying Qui my
Return to old app Puhleese     Zero stars for new app Getjsly
I know it takes a bit of time to adjust to the new version of any software but honestly I don t see that I can ever adjust to this one It s far better to use the free news aggregator apps such as Flipboard or the Apple app     Unusable martens46
I would rather have the paper delivered to my house so I could read it When the Oregonian started to deliver it only 4 days a week I would have to use the digital edition I found that if I had to read the digital edition 3 days a week I was a creature of habit and it was easier for me to read the digital edition everyday than switch back and forth Since I wrote this last paragraph we have sold house and are traveling full time in our RV I have been checking on Portland news with the Oregonian application for the iPad It was better than the online version but still needed help During the last week I have had trouble having it accept that I have a subscription It would let me read the web version but not my application version Today I said I forgot my password and entered the same password again and now it will let me open the application version on my iPad I really like the new version and recommend it highly It is more user friendly and is a great improvement Hope you can get it to accept your password It is worth the trouble Thanks                 New and old JC nickname
This app doesn t know what it wants to be yet It is not super user friendly is VERY cluttered makes a single article harder to read in it entirety and the split screen is just plain annoying And good luck if you have eye issues since you will spend all your time adjusting the font size Probably a great way to sell ads but not great for much else that I can see yet     Need a No Stars Option KJSN7
This version is the worst When you click on an article a page opens but but is not full screen so very hard to read anything but a few words when larger print used Also some of the comics text cannot be read no matter what you do     Latest Upgrade Awful RogerPDX
Despite the Apple warning when opening the app that the writer of the app needed to optimize it to prevent it from slowing down my iPad I was all set to give it 4 stars Then I tried browsing past editions There appears no way to return to more recent editions once you open an older one Instructions say to simply swipe up but this does nothing Had to completely delete and reinstall to get back to today s edition Very frustrating     So close FlashHack
While I much prefer reading The Oregonian on my iPad to the print edition it is not user friendly Toggling between older editions and returning to a later edition e g If I want to read the Tuesday edition I missed before I read Wednesday I cannot return to Wednesday Tech support has tried to help me with this to no avail Uninstalling and reinstalling the app does not help I hope they are working on a fix Nervy of them to charge more for the electronic only subscription     One star rating truly deserved Sue Beee
App works OK but trying to read past additions has issues This is where the app freezes This is not a one time occurrence it happens frequently         Hit and miss Tucker707
This is a fair app with room for improvement I am getting a message that says the developer needs to update the app as it is causing the iPad to slow down Since it has been over 2 years since it has been updated it is overdue For some reason sections of the paper are repeated and one has to flip past the exact same section to get to the next section I enjoy printing the crossword puzzle Some days there are print ready pages and some days there are not Many days the answer key is so blurred it is unreadable It is well past time to fix this app             Fair App Dtardy
Not sure whose update Apple s or Oregonian s broke this but I can no longer choose an earlier edition to read App freezes when swiping to choose an issue of the past week     Browsing past issues broken Sylvia.H.
When it works it is great but all too often it gets stuck on loading and never completes I would get a credit for paper editions that were not delivered but this electronic business model has no accountability I will likely get to a point where the annoyance exceeds the convenience and cancel my 30 year relationship with this newspaper        When it works
Today as is not unusual the content simply stopped loading after a few pages It will go to loading and if past experience is any indication it will never load Sometimes the content for a day is not even available so I go to a browser to see it Further it now asks for a login every day sometimes more than once The userid is not stored so I need to enter a long userid that includes underscores which the app keyboard requires several clicks to enter Also if you are reading your paper in the evening there is zero access to help     Inconsistent access and frustrating login
We are also experiencing frustration over the need to provide email and password on an almost daily basis Recently we were stuck in loading purgatory and had to delete and reload the app in order to read the paper We have been loyal subscribers for over 20 years but are thinking seriously about moving over to the NYT or Washington Post Is anybody working on these issues Folks have been noting them for some time but we arent seeing any fixes     Is anybody listening
I had given this a good review but it has gotten worse every time in use it The main problem is that they cannot seem to be able to consistently fit 1 page onto a screen Sometimes they do but lately its like 1 12 or 2 pages on one screen which makes it to small to read and frustrating to use        works good for me
Many others have already detailed the failures of this app Take note that the last time it was updated was April 2014 Crashes Wont load todays paper Wont tell you it needs a password Wont load right after renewal So many problems and Ive had them all What was once an awardwinning journalistic offering is now a declining dinosaur If they would just get this app right     Fail
Poor app Does not tell you that you need an acct and pw prior to using the app Home delivery required to get an acct The Oregonian newspaper has no connection with iTunes and iTunes cannot create an acct for this app Even the Oregonian is clueless as to how the app works     Home delivery subscription required
As paper publishing fails the Oregonian dooms itself by leaping halfheartedly and unsuccessfully into the digital age 1 Every few days it loses my password 2 Every few weeks it lock up and has to be reinstalled 3 It is simply a scanned image of the paper so folds and other glitches come through daily 4 There is a readable format but that only works with an Internet collection 5 Support is zero All their agents are trained to tell you it works great and you are the only on having problems This page tells the story 6 No updates and no improvements for months Meanwhile the price goes up and the quality goes down     No Stars
This could have been a good app but one severe issue renders it so annoying to use that Ive stopped trying With this app you have to provide your account credentials usernamepassword every day you use it If you believe in secure passwords then this creates a lot of friction between the desire to read the Oregonian and ton the iPad and the ability to do so This has become such an obstacle that I simply no longer read the Oregonian on on the days it isnt delivered to my home There seems to be no provision in the App or on the olive website to provide feedback so Im hoping that the developers read this Fix the password problem     Poor Password Process Hobbles App
When it works this is actually a good app However there are two bugs you will encounter First is having to re enter your password any time you open app Second is it gets stuck on loading screen with loading but it appears to load Some how I got it to accept my pw and not have to always renter May have been on iPad settings page Got loading error now and cant get past Even with reboot It is sad that programs get released with bugs that dont get fixed Program should be updated     Very unstable app
Thank you so much Much better than paper                 Great app
If the paper could be enlarged to read in a larger print I couldwould read it     Large print
Absolute crap will not load again and time after time Apple do us a favor and take this down so more users dont put up with this nonsense What a shame as the old print edition was an outstanding paper and now I cant even get what I pay for     No Stars
This app works about 50 of the time Usually doesnt load the paper or has another critical error It is noon today and the app will only display a paper from last month Called customer svc They said they are aware of the problem but have no idea if or when it will be fixed They would also prefer you not call and bother them This app has been bad from the day it was introduced They have ignored all of the complaints and have made no fixes Hopefully they will start to lose advertising revenue soon and that will force them to fix the problems They certainly wont fix them for their reader base DO NOT BUY A DIGITAL SUBSCRIPTION TO THIS PAPER     NoPaperAgain
Its bad enough to have to go online and deal with the crappy login but now they are skipping issues No paper at all today Have you completely given up     Horrible
Surely you can do better than this I echo the criticisms of other frustrated usersfrequent sign ins infinite loading problems It really weakens the journalistic credibility of the institution if this is the best it can do with a digital version Fix this please     Oregonian App a Disappointment
Raise the prices err reduce the length of our subscriptions and never upgrade this app Way to botch the digital age O Todays paper is stuck loading so I cant read it Why not update the app to take advantage of the iPads Retina display Signed a former subscriber of 25 years     A stagnant garbage app
The app is useless Cant read any stories All I get a a loading message     Bad app
After renewing for a second month the app keeps asking me to pay again I verified the payment for the 2nd month was processes through iTunes and taken from my checking account The app itself is fine but the developer website wont load and there is no other way to get support        Cant open after renewal
What are you guys thinking This app is a pain to use The stupid flipping pages with the text blurred out and then coming in is cutsy but not user friendly at all I still much prefer using the old olives software even though you have made that very difficult to get to PLEASE try to fix this software     I hate this app
Could be good if they would pay attention But they dont Doesnt remember login Corrupts its own data so often needs to be uninstalledreinstalled Stopped working altogether this past weekend Impossible to get through to their support line Level of incompetence progressing from extreme to unforgivable Im a software developer so I know apps like this can work But apparently no ones home at The Oregonian     Incompetent
a quick google search proves how much worse its gotten and despite repeated complaints there has been no update     Doesnt load
I dont understand the complaining reviews This app works well for reading the digital version of the Oregonian As a full subscriber for many years I now prefer reading the digital version on my iPad vs the paper version This app is a musthave if you want to save the paper for later offline reading when out of Wifi range I give this app four and a half out of five stars the bookmark feature hasnt been fully implemented yet but nevertheless the rest of the apps functionality provides exactly whats needed to read the paper from cover to cover The app doesnt crash on my older model iPad 2 and offers a couple of different ways to zoom into an article for easy reading Thank you Oregonian              App works well
This app is currently unusable as it never loads as everyone has been reporting for some time Very disappointing     Is anyone listening yet
Hasnt worked for weeks now and even when it did work it was terrible slow and glitchy Its beyond me why the largest paper in Portland cant get their act together and produce a decent online version of their paper Id give it zero stars if I could     Garbage
Only Thursday available on Friday no way can I make it work What a lousy deal     Cant get todays issue
The app works well for reading the online edition but lacks functions of the web version Specifically there is no way to email or share an article Since the crossword and jumble are not fillable you must email and print them Also it is nice to share articles of interest on social media to bring attention to certain topics In my opinion the app falls short and it it better to just use the web to read the online edition        Lacks basic functions
Search function is very weak meaning you often cannot go back and find text you have previously read but wish to return to The section navigation does not include all sections in each days paper and the app crashes frequently The links included in articles very often do not work and text displays so that words are frequently erroneously conjoined Read the Oregonian via a web browser not via this very poorly designed app     Very poor app
Wont load today Reinstalled app Worked for a bit Not loading again Bad enough The Oregonian news content shrinks or reused on multiple days     Not working today
I also am puzzled by all the negative reviews Loads quickly easy to navigate several options nice zoom feature Has not crashed for me and allows access to plenty of issues Perhaps the earlier versions were buggy I now prefer the app to the physical paper              Better than the Paper Oregonian
Terrible app Simply doesnt work reliably The poorness of this apps design is surpassed only by the low level content of this once great newspaper     Unbelievably Terrible
that I have to sign in every time I want to use this app What are you developers thinking assuming you care enough to read customer reviews        Ridiculous
It used to accept the password and store it for a period of time Now it asks for it every day Developers please allow password to be stored        Asks for password every time its opened
This app has rarely worked since I first downloaded it I feel a little flutter of hope every time there is an update sucker which is most often followed by disappointment Now when I open the app its constantly loading Oh and the download for offline reading function it only works when Im online because the app wont open otherwise The app is thankfully free too bad Im paying for access to the digital edition of this newspaper though     Frustrating
Ok now it seems they fixed the login issue since I posted this updated review Much better Back to 5 stars Previous review update Major bummer this morning I did the update and now the app wont let me log in on my ipad It keeps saying invalid email or password but when I log in via a web browser my credentials work fine PLEASE FIX ASAP Here is my first review Huge improvement over the online version The ipad app is just like reading the paper version One issue would be nice if it kept you logged in so you dont have to enter your email and password every time you open it                 Great App but it didnt work this morning but now it is working again
Even with its excellent design as an online newspaper I find that the apps frequent request for sign in is very frustrating It wont accept keychain sign in either The same app can be delivered daily as an email with a link I am going to try that for a while and delete the Apple app        Maddening
This used to just be frustrating with the frequent need to login and sometimes reinstall to get past the loading screen But after another reinstall today due to a stuck loading screen I now cant even log in Every attempt tells me there are errors in your form please try again I was willing to put up with the decrease in quality of the content but now I cant even read it     Now unusable
Horrible appcannot log in at all with correct login information Cant even get password reset because app cannot find my account     Cant Log In
When the app works its fine But it often doesnt recognize your device which requires you to keep logging in time and again Or instead of allowing you to open the app it just spins and spins without any option to reboot Of course you never know if the quick lick that should take you from one page to another to read a full story will actually work Unfortunately this app reflects the the current state of our newspaper sub par     When it works
Every time I open the app it asks me to sign in Very annoying Will knock off two stars for that annoyance Otherwise it does what it says its a visual representation of the printed page If you want to share the article a double click blows up the article and offers share options Update Ive deleted the app The constant signin requirement became too much Too bad I liked it     Sign in every time Grrrrr
So typical of this newspaper The iPad app freezes up on a regular basis requiring me to delete the app and reload it You would think the newspaper would make the investment to offer a more reliable app for their subscribers I wrote the above comment several months ago and the problem continues These guys dont have a clue when it comes to customer service     Barely works
