The Approved NC State Parks Guide- Pocket Ranger™

The mapcaching and eventtracking features of this app are promising Unfortunately it crashes on launch at times and the interface is cluttered and confusing I wanted this app to work for me but in the end I switched back to using GPS Kit and Gaia GPS for my adventures in state parks           Needs Work

Pro version is 45 stars though Its 399 and part of that goes to maintaining parks in NC        Lame

The national parks app from National Geographic is a much better model for a parks app This app even includes nonpark ad type locations on its map and list of parks now        Not great

I cant Open the App     Doesnt Work

Have really only tried to use this app in a park once but found out that the map for Occoneechee Mountain is out of date It is missing a whole trail which certainly threw me off for a while on the hike Other than that I like the concept              Good conceptbut check that the map you want is up to date

I downloaded app on my IPad and once I opened the app it was smallonly a fraction of the size of my screen I do not see anywhere to enlarge the app When they call it pocket they truly mean pocket size     App size on screen

More ads for sponsors than actual park info     Horrible dont waste your time

This used to be a fairly usable app for hiking the parks of NC but after this latest update No more I went to check the GPS maps and verify that the cached maps I downloaded were still present and much to my surprise it now lists the GPS maps for all Days Inn motels and all GM auto dealers in the state If this is a bug it needs to be fixed If it is not way to go to kill an app        What Happened

All I can say is being able to track my kids in a park is the most valuable aspect of this app It has lots of info and works great We spend so much time in parks and the Finder feature has to be the best part Pro version is a must Plus we really need more funds to go to maintain our parks and this app does it                 Thankful

Downloaded the app to help plan a summer trip to NC and figure out which parks to visit while there This is a very handy application for having all the relevant info for each of the parks at your fingertips Looking forward to getting the pro version for use when we go visit Cant wait for a version for New York state                 Very helpful

The app is primarily an advertising site for Chevrolet and Days Inn and it runs at the speed of a herd of turtles     Waste of time

Update 11302014 This isnt even an app its a billboard For advertisers Try it but dont pay for the app     This app goes from bad to worse

This is the true deal If you are a true park enthusiast then this is the way to go If youre not this will transform you I understand that this is an Official State app and proceeds will help fund these parks to stay open That is absdolutley amazing This blows other socalled park apps away                 GEM

This is not a stand alone app Without the paid GPS version there is nothing interactive about the application A web site would provide more information        A big tease

This app is not designed like a normal phone app The usability is sometimes quirky and most times incredibly frustrating I love NCParks but this app is not worth itand the paid versions has an obnoxious banner ad that I keep hitting     Unlike any iPhone apppaid version has ads

There is a map that lets you search by region but it really isnt useful Give us a map with points that show where the park is On the other hand app offers good park info           Soso

I liked the free version so I upgraded to the paid version Big mistake because it crashes at launch and the company ignores requests for help Dont throw your money away to amend my earlier review after many reboots and toggling everything related to the app on and off many times and many synches over the course of several days suddenly the app started working exactly as advertised I have no idea why but everything seems fine now I never did receive any kind of support or even contact from the company though              Paid version crashes at launch at first

The custom waypoints and park map poi features will not work for me Slider buttons to enable them wont stay on Tried to contact developers for support several times but they never respond        Nice idea buggy app no support

I was unable to use the app in my iphone 5 It kept freezing the screen and popping up the download app popup which I couldnt get rid of     Kept freezing up

Cant speak for earlier versions but latest on iOS 60 keeps crashing When I did get it to run I recorded a hike and it crashed 12 through without recovery The user interface could be simpler to use but it does have many features which may account for the complexity     Good idea poor execution

I like the app a lot But it crashes on my iPhone 5s when using the the GPS or trying to load a park map           I like the appbut it crashes

This is the best App ive used for hiking EVER The parks locations and activities are clearly listed and sorted This was a well thoughtout idea The ease of use makes this App especially user friendly i love being able to glance at the trail maps to choose my destination instead of bring out the usual paper maps that rip and fall apart by the end of the day Regular hikers know what im talking about And the App supports the park and its GREEN                 Awesome App

This app is excellent Instead of Googling for the info I need or checking paper mapsbrochures the app has it all in one place The GPS navigation is life changing                 Awesome

The app is slightly more convenient than searching for parks on the web but all of the interesting features that use GPS are reserved for the pro version Im honestly not sure why the free version exists given how little it actually does        Neutered app

I have the 4 pro version The app is a wonderful idea but currently has too many bugs to be worth your money The main problems relate to the pay features GPS so just stick with the free one until they resolve these issues     Hope they fix it

The concept is nice but the execution is lacking The basic park maps available on the NC State Parks website are frequently missing on this app The topographic maps on the Pro version lack the ability to zoom in to the level need to make them useful for navigation while hikingcanoeing Try the free version but I think the pro version needs more work With a few improvements it would be worth 20        Scant Maps on Pro Version

Had a blast with this app at an area park The friend finder is very cool Pro version takes it to extraordinary level and is worth the buy                 Fun

This is a great app if you are interested in NC state parks I would also search for Pocket Ranger as they make apps for several states                 New design is a big improvement

Tried to use it and it froze up as soon as it opened What a disappointment     Its broken

I paid to upgrade to the Pro version after using the free version and realizing I couldnt get maps for hiking Ive tried caching maps for all of the Parks in eastern NC without success Each time the cached map is much smaller than the reported size prior to download Viewing the cached map after download results in no images and map tile unavailable After reading the User Guide I finally found one sentence in the middle of the guide that says Due to licensing policies map caching is not supported for Google Maps Are you kidding me Thats why I paid the 399 Map caching is the reason people pay for the Pro version when they DONT have cellular data access in the middle of nowhere I dont mind paying to support NC State Parks but I feel cheated because the lack of caching should be advertised BEFORE purchase Use the average FREE version then give the 399 directly to your favorite NC State Park     No Map Caching

If you spend any time in the great outdoors this guide is absolutely indispensable I also paid for the gps maps option which lets you download trail maps for any of the state parks                 Absolutely wonderful app

My family was down in NC visiting colleges and my daughter heard about this app on a college tour College kids are always up on all the best technology So cool she could download it immediately using the universitys wifi We then purchased and downloaded the pro version which was a great help when we wanted to squeeze in some hiking It also worked as a great navigation system all through North Carolina What a beautiful state and this app was a big help on our trip Thank you NC Great schools great parks                 Super App
