Spare the Air Bay Area

App does not update each day said ok to burn then the next day it said it was a spare the air day for the same day If you are going to put out an app such as this make it reliable I dont think it is right that we can get fined because your app gave wrong information     Unreliable at best

The notifications do NOT work and the lack of content makes this app worthless Ill now delete it and just hope to hear about sta days on the radio andor news     Notifications not working

Ive seen a lot of reviews bashing the spare the air policies I respect that we all may have differing opinions but this app does exactly what it promises you open it and right at the top it says if its a spare the air day or not What else did you expect this thing to do Sure it claims to have push notifications but there hasnt been a STA day since I got the app so I cant comment on that It claims to give the least smoggy bike routes my experience has it being accurate enough It lets you report smoking vehicles and see a forecast but at the end of the day it has only one job tell me if its an STA day or not Now if you got this app thinking there would be a button to change civic policy or thinking that this app would allow robust and meaningful discussions surrounding a cost benefit analysis of various region wide air quality interventions then Im sorry to be the bearer of bad news This app is to tell you if its a spare the air day or not If you want more than that in all sincerity please write your senator and convince them to change the policy not a bad app review to convince people that this app doesnt tell you if its an STA day or not because it does                 Politics aside it does what it advertises

Feels much more like an iOS app than the previous version The air quality index actually seems to work now too                 A huge improvement

Ive used this app to determine airquality in the bay area for a while now and its faster than going to the site However when I went to use the report smoking car feature for a horrible smoking vehicle it totally doesnt work Spent the time to take a picture of the license plate and write down where I was and the submit button never goes active     Report smoking car doesnt work

Its been fn freezing here in the Bay for the last few days And it was a STA alert in effect for a few days in the row The app does whats expected The regulation is stupid No burn day The electric and gas company execs are laughing all the way to the bank     Nanny state app

Now I check air quality AND text in smoking vehicles                 Nice

Why should I have to check before I burn Just another lame excuse for the people at CARB to try and justify there 100000 salaries on useless problems killing California economy by most trucks avoiding all all cost due to emissions related stuff Remember when CARB poisoned us Californians with MTB in our fuel for years before they finally quietly pulled MTB out of fuels And now there trying to justify there 100k salaries by coming after diesel because it is so harmful for the environment What a joke     Useless app

App failed to warn me of a spare the air day resulting in a 100 fine Do not trust this app to provide accurate information     Do not use

Great concept but feed from website to app is broken Lead screen shows spare the air alerts but clicking in the forecast shows some old data when air was clean Use the web page instead not sure how many days I let kid play outside due to bad info when I should have kept her inside     Data not updated or reliable

Could this app be a bit more slick sure Could we debate the need for spare the air days sure The bottom line is that you need to know when you are going to be fined for lighting a fire This app does just that via push Keep up the good work app makers              Could save you hundreds of

Loved this app till recently Only first page works When I try to go to the second page the whole thing closes Dont even know if the first pg is accurate without more details Please fix I depend on this app to predict my asthema     Crashes

Lame app The Forecast Map page uses Mystery Meat type navigation Map has some color shaded areas with no text hints instructions If you click on one if the areas it pops up a little bubble with some color coded health levels forecasting a couple of days out All of them indicate some kind of level each stuck at 25 regardless of severity Clicking the Bubble gets you nothing If you click on the Rat out Your Neighbors Vehicle page and then tap the web link it takes you to a lovely Internal Server Error page Waste of time Deleting now     Yuck

Seems like an easy enough app for a Bay Area based organization to get rightbut thatd be asking too much Interesting that whatever the Podcasts button has is only available in the Chinese App Store        Meh

I just wanted a quick and easy way to check if it was a sta day before lighting a firethis does that Sure there could be more bells and whistles I guess but it gives me the key info Im looking for quickly                 Does what I wanted

When Spare the Air program started it emphasized driving less since it is well known that the 1 air contaminant by a huge margin is auto emissions specifically diesel fuel To get folks out of their cars STA sponsored free rides on public transit bike to work and carpool info But today they blame the log in your fireplace as the cause of air pollution It would appear that the Spare The Air program has been hijacked by big oil big agribusiness and the auto industry because in 2011 we heard next to nothing from STA about the air pollution the aforementioned groups are causing In 2011 there are no longer any public transit incentives or even education campaigns about diesel fuel emissions effect on air quality Instead there is a huge campaign against the use of FIREPLACES in homes STA board has even gotten legislation approved to fine persons 400 for using a fireplace on a Spare the Air day But where are the equivalent fines for use of diesel trucks big ag farm equipment or SUVs none of which are even subject to the smog devices requirement of personal autos crickets The board looks the other way or in the case of the most egregious violations issues a slaponthehand fine to the corporations Instead STA offers a turn in your neighbor for using their fireplace on a cold day hotline in this app and advertised on all major media on Christmas Eve and Christmas And not a word about staying off the road The Board says gas and electric heaters and fireplaces are OK Nobody must have told them about the dangers of the nuclear power generation of electricity or about the environmental destruction from harvesting natural gas during oil drilling or about the decimation of clean drinking water in our aquifers from hydraulic fracturing to capture clean natural gas Nope they dont know or care about those things But God forbid you might think using your fireplace to stay warm in the winter was less costly in every way than the choices approved by Spare the Air Board theyll be at your door to pay a fine that no doubt will fund more activities of their organization Dont believe them and dont believe me Look it up diesel fuel emissions are the big air quality problem not your presto logs     App OK STA Board Priorities WRONG

The notifications that it is a spare the air day work well But when you click on areas of the map to check the air quality the numbers are completely different than the website App always shows the air quality is good and in the green when the website says it is severe and red for the same area of the Bay        Doesnt work

Was this a competition to see how quickly I could delete your app You got about 45 seconds on my phone before it was gone Completely useless I am a strong supporter of spare the air days and love the fact that pollution is so closely monitored and limited With that said I cannot think of a greater public relations failure than the Bay Area air resources management district No one has any idea what you do how you do it or why If you took even a small amount of time to actually communicate to the public about what youre doing and what the risks are if not doing it youd gain massive support Instead the district and this app are a joke     Terrible

The only reason I have this app is for the alerts        No alerts

So it tells me there is a spare the air alert Fine In the winter I know that means not to burn wood in my fireplace or face a large fine It isnt winter So what am I being advised to do or not do during a summer spare the air I already commute by bicycle and have a small car that I share with my wife Can I barbecue Burn wood in my fireplace Drive to the beach If you want people to respond you need to provide more information        Needs some content

Im downloading this app just so Ill know which days I will be illegally providing warmth for my children     Good grief

I have everything set to include STA alerts on my iPhone but none appear It is unreasonable to expect me to check the app each day Once in the app its OK at best Check Air Quality Im in the Bay Area the map comes up in Medford OR     Still no alerts

spell it out is it a spare the air or not changing to an ambiguous symbol is of no help when checking the burn status     what does it say spare no spare
