Go books on your iPad. Replay moves directly within diagrams. Zoom partial diagrams to see the whole board. Comments and long figures broken into logical sequences. This is the way Go books were meant to ...
The interactive diagrams make this way better and than using paper books and a physical go board The ebooks in this app are also much cheaper than their paper counterparts on the order of a third of the Amz prices There s also a MacOS app that you can share your purchases to although it doesn t sync your position yet                     Awesome way to learn go Arcsech
You can actually play the graded problems from the books in this app That is a great feature                     The graded problems Trungdle
The ebook format used in this app was designed with go books in mind The diagrams which are key elements of go books have powerful features When reviewing a game rather than just studying the numbered stones you have the option of actually stepping through the moves and watching the board evolve Also you can play problems out in the app I had a small library of paper books which I ve been replacing with Go Book versions because they re so much better than paper                     Diagrams Make eBooks Better Than Paper Versions Happy User 99999999
Being able to play out a sequence of moves right on the page is incredible I would never buy a paper version of a book available in this app                     Better than paper TAndersen42
The feature where you can play the examples rather than have to mentally visualize them alone is worth several time the price of admission                 Pleased as punch Emile000
I bought this app a few years and now it will not even download much less update To be fair it runs fine on my iPad Air 2 but won t even install on my iPad Mini 3     Epic Fail Skahnn
UI is obscure Unclear how to return to start of book Purchases forgotten after every new version Amateur hour     Clunky Not there yet PresJPolk
I love the longevity of physical books but for actually making use of them there is no way better than this program The catalog of books continues to grow and I love that for about the cost of a latte I can expand my mind a few additional bits                     Excellent study aid Mike366363
It certainly crushes the chess book readers I ve bought a good number of the books in the app and never had a problem Really wonderful implementation                     Amazing jabotscrob
This format is really a revolutionary way of viewing go books So for that the app is really great As a book app though the interface is really frustrating Bookmarks are able to be set but I have no idea how you actually view them again There is no index of bookmarks or anything to view ones that are set Adding notes is a cool feature but it displays as if the note is part of the document with a confusing bookmark icon next to it You can recover purchases on other devices using an email address but it isn t a synced book So you don t transfer your progress in a book or any notes or bookmarks I also wish there was some integration with smartgo kifu where I could send problems from books over to that app so I could track ones that I am having difficulty with all in on place I think this has a tremendous amount of potential and there really isn t any other app competing with this I just hope the overall interface can evolve into something truly amazing             May be a work in progress But needs more progress linuxdaemon
Super convenient way to study Go It has a great selection of books and provides an easy way to do Go problems Love it Thank you developers for putting this together                     Great Resource Calculadoro
At least 5 10 prior purchases did not restore after the update     Update didn t restore all my purchases JasonB1234567890
Seldom do we find an imitation that surpasses the original A better Go book                     A true innovation G4rrett413
I am beginner Go player even though I have played for years off and on Recently I tried to find some good introductory books ideally in electronic format I failed It seems the few available where printed versions and it was really hard to choose which one I wanted to invest my time in Along comes this app It makes choosing the right book a lot easier with careful reviews and introductions and it makes the material easy to electronically I still love paper books but do find i do most of my reading on my iPhone iPad these days Great companion to the Smart Go Board app                     Finally easy to find the right Go book So good it’s great
This program is really excellent in establishing a strong collection of great books about Go for all levels The fact that I also practice and play on my iPad makes this program very functional for me                     Great learning tool odie105
I love it for learning Go but more than that it makes iPhone iPad learning exactly how it should be Wherever I am I buy a book read some ideas apply them in the interactive game diagram and keep going Awesome Also the book selection has gotten better and better over time and is now fantastic Most of my favorites missing only the Elementary Go series are there Plenty for anyone to learn from                     My favorite learning app period i don't want a nickname.
This is a great application for all Go players There are a really nice selection of books available for players of all skill levels                 Great app for all Go players Me in Phoenix
If you play Go this app is for you The ability to check that the answer to a life and death problem is in fact correct is invaluable Superb with the iPad A must                     Essential Vegas_Socrates
Now that the app supports bookmarks and annotations this is a better medium than paper You can view the examples step by step or experiment with your own variations The author of the app is responsive to queries and suggestions Bravo                     Better than paper Saxmaam
This is a useful collection of books and they re priced very reasonably being able to add my own notes makes it even more useful A great resource                     Notes are a great addition Manybooks
To put it simply if you play Go you want this app Because if you play Go you probably have a library of Go books most of which just sit gathering dust The problem with Go books is that they feature diagrams with large numbers of moves on each diagram If the number of moves is more than about 5 which is very common then playing over the moves in your head is very difficult and setting up a board and stones is worse because you would usually have to set up dozens of stones in just the right places Go Books is a book reading app for Go Books In addition to letting you read Go books this app makes the diagrams active so you can play them through one stone at a time while reading the book I can t emphasize enough how much of a difference this makes now I can go through my Go books and actually understand what is being played out on a move by move basis It s better on the iPad but works perfectly well on the iPhone too would that there was a native Mac version a man can dream In addition there are tons of great Go books available from older classics some out of print to books that have just been published The author of this app Anders Kierulf is also the author of the excellent SmartGo program called SmartGo Kifu on the iPhone iPad and yes you want that one too Both programs are of impeccable quality I can t remember ever finding a bug in either one and both are under active development Even though SmartGo is great it is Go Books this app which I think will have a really transformative effect on the Go community I can t recommend this highly enough to Go fans                     Revolutionary chessgodzilla
Love this app I m no longer limited to the books the bookstore keeps in stock And the interactive diagrams are a lot of fun                     The best way to read Go books Justin Weiss
Application is very helpful and innovative in that I can actually be interactive with the diagram However I would like to be able to pull up table of contents at any page of a current reading It seems it is very difficult to go back to pages that had been read I would like to have either bookmarks or access to table of contents                 Table of contents Astral Sensation
If you want to study go this app should be a no brainer You can play through the diagrams right in the books which is really handy The books cost money but you can read sizeable samples before buying any of them It s really amazing and I hope it gets even more books over time and it has been doing that regularly                     Best way to buy and read go books Brentus
Excellent app for go players of all levels Great collection of go books and I love how you can play the moves on the diagrams within the books Only 2 minor things that bug me about the app which I hope they can fix in a future update I am prompted to enter my apple store password every single time I use the app to read a go book and 2 I can t find a way to bookmark my page in the book                     Great sactjs
I honestly think apps like this are the future of teaching                     Awesome Ender1982
Very helpful in my GO Endeavors lol                     Helpful Mseeeeee
I ve enjoyed reading a few of these books now and would recommend this app except for the hugely annoying problem that it frequently forgets where you are in the book It is very frustrating to reopen a book wanting to pick up where you left off only to see the title page yet again 1 Fix the issue with forgetting your current page 2 Add bookmarking 3 Fix consistency issues with the example boards in the books sometimes you can step through the shown sequence other times when you tap the board it just clears the numbered stones and makes you play the sequence yourself The Graded Problems books are especially annoying in this regard as sometimes for no discernible reason the grading feature isn t there you just play stones with no feedback other than turning the page 4 The ui and board interactions are frequently laggy What s so hard about drawing a circle that the app has to think about it for a whole second before actually doing it             Nice content but some really irritating bugs sprocketsandrockets
Access to many hard to find or out of print books Ever expanding selection for all levels of players Fantastic feature set with very timely developer support                     Fantastic NaN - Not a Nickname
It is a free LIST but not an actual book     Only a LIST of books for purchase Eumatthe
So much better than reading a go book on paper I could not go back to paper after using this app                     Excellent Broske73
This app would be great but there s no way to search a book or to bookmark a page This is a serious shortcoming for a reader intended to be used with reference material such as instructional books If you buy a book within this app you re locked into the app and can t read it in any other more full featured reader app such as Kindle or Goodreader A really unfortunate oversight for what could be such a nice app         No searching or bookmarking facility mixerman23
If you want to build your Go library and don t want to spend 20 per book this is the right app for you The previews are enough to give you a decent idea of whether you want the book and sometimes are even enough to help improve your game of only that little bit                     Fantastic library LanguiDude
Smart go books would be perfect were it not for the fact that if anything goes wrong you have to figure it out on your own I was looking at the sample pages of Tesuji by Davies and got stuck in it for day s which means I couldn t look at any of the books I had already purchased Apparently I had to touch screen the top left in RAPID SUCCESSION in order to get out of that mess I am not so sure though and I don t want to go through that horror again to find out                 Smart go books YokoNakajima
Only a very small amount of the book is available in the free version This app is essentially an advertisement         Must pay for full content Not FREE G1bbs
There is no free book This is a book store     There is no free book in the app PXing121
This app is great and the new interactive problems feature is great My only issue is that books are added veerry infrequently I have yet to find a book that I want to read and buy                 Great way to access many hard to find books MISTER KOKO
Love the books and the format is stellar The Janice Kim books in particular seem to have gotten a lot of love and attention where the questions are on a diff page than the answers The goban is also excellent It s so nice to be able to step through the go reviews and problems as I read                     Outstanding resource vosechu
This is a great app with a decent selection of Go books to purchase and study The interface of the app is great but what it could really use is more books I d personally like to see more from the Mastering the Basics series as well as the inclusion of the Elementary Go Series and some of the classics like Lessons in the Fundamentals of Go by Toshiro Kageyama                 Lots of potential kruks
I have all these books in paper but the ability to read them on the go with the interactive boards INLINE with the text is a no brainer awesome win Thanks Anders A Love Chris K                     Great way to learn go Chris Kubica
If you like Go and read ebooks there s something here for you The list of books are growing and there is a book for both beginners and advanced players You also get a sample chapter of each book Give it a look                     A Must have Go app Mr.Wright 19x19
Just don t do it     What The Cudd
Reading through books about Go are difficult At least for me as a single digit kyu it is difficult to follow diagrams Either there are too many or ones with too many moves are difficult to read out But the use of interactive diagrams makes this so much easier Two comments For the developers allow us to bookmark and comment the books For the authors take the time to take advantage of the interactive diagrams For example the 501 Opening Problems book is great It would be even better if the author showed a seq to get to the problem in the setup diagram Thanks to both the developers and the authors for taking advantage of a great platform to do more than you can in print now if KGS would just come up with an iPad app                 This is a good way to study Go CastIronFoody
I realize that I m not at a skill level to really push this Go engine too hard but I ve played for several years and find this app to be at an excellent level for me Unless I get a significant handicap it can spank me I m looking forward to getting stronger to fight back The refresher problems help with making many tactical problems that you end up seeing all the time in matches more obvious Also the historical matches which are somewhat commented on are much easier to follow and watch unfold than in the Go books I have Again some folks probably can look at a page of numbered stones and see how it all came to end game but for me being able to move ahead move by move is a valuable tool Finally watching my 10yr old son and another adult friend of mine learn Go on this app makes me see the advantage it gives as a beginner teaching tool                     Just about perfect for me machogaucho
This app is extremely convenient and has a great selection It makes learning and studying Go fun and easy I m very happy with the updates so far and look forward to more in the future Most book prices are reasonable given the convenience                     Portable Go Library Go beginner
No one appreciates being lured in with a free app only to find that 1 book costs 3 99 All these gushing reviews are probably by the publisher trying to upvote a redundant app that rips you off     Look at all these fake accounts CBKwak
This app is just there for you to buy their books It is just like the picture but with prices It has no free books demo books or anything els it s simply made to sell books if you gonna buy books just buy the smart go pro one for 12     Not worth it Zackooo3
Another great app from Smart Go Inc More books please                     Great app Rasping Bard
I m interested in this game but this app has no free content and the prices on in app purchases are insane Save you money     Terrible bait and switch Free app NWrocker5
So this app is amazing Buy the books or not you can learn plenty even from just the samples Zedekblue 10k                     YES Zedek
Super convenient way to study Go It has a great selection of books and provides an easy way to do Go problems Love it Thank you developers for putting this together                 Great Resource
Just dont do it     What
This is a great application for all Go players There are a really nice selection of books available for players of all skill levels              Great app for all Go players
There is no free book This is a book store     There is no free book in the app

So this app is amazing Buy the books or not you can learn plenty even from just the samples Zedekblue 10k                 YES
The app has books for every level player I love the interactive problems I have some of the same books as hard copies but really enjoy watching the progression of stone placement All the books work perfectly I have not had one problem using my phone or iPad A all the way                 I Love GoBooks
At least 510 prior purchases did not restore after the update     Update didnt restore all my purchases
Smart go books would be perfect were it not for the fact that if anything goes wrong you have to figure it out on your own I was looking at the sample pages of Tesuji by Davies and got stuck in it for days which means I couldnt look at any of the books I had already purchased Apparently I had to touch screen the top left in RAPID SUCCESSION in order to get out of that mess I am not so sure though and I dont want to go through that horror again to find out              Smart go books
Reading books about the game of Go is just one way to get stronger Playing through pro games with apps such as Smartgo Kifu and doing plenty of problems are just as important Given that however most players will still end up buying a stack of go books to read at home and on the bus What makes smartgo books unique is the ability to watch the moves unfold in real time in the game and example diagrams Instead of using mental energy trying to locate move 5 for example the diagrams simply run through the moves in succession so that the reader can concentrate on the ideas being presented by the author The readers experience with a video window showing the moves compared with a static representation of a temporal process the game of go is simply on another level My only complaint is that I wish I could trade in all my older paper copies of classics from Kiseido Slate and Shell and others for their smartgo books versions That way I could carry around my entire go book library with me anywhere I take my iPad I strongly encourage any go players reading this to download the app and try out the FREE sample chapters from every book available My only regret is that most of the currentlyavailable titles from Slate and Shell are just fragments of the complete books Eventually the market is going to take care of this I predict in a few years most new go books will be published in an electronic format with optional printondemand paper books for those who want their books with bent covers cracked spines and slightly smudged paper                 Transformative experience
I have all these books in paper but the ability to read them on the go with the interactive boards INLINE with the text is a nobrainer awesome win Thanks Anders A Love Chris K                 Great way to learn go

I appreciate the ability to see the sequence played out but I really need to see some wrong moves mine to appreciate the right ones Why cant I play where I want Im ok with having to exitreenter the board view to reset the variation But eventually the ability to save my variations would be a nice way to take notes           Cant place stones
