ReadCube is the simplest way to read, manage and discover research literature. With ReadCube on your iPhone and iPad, access your papers anywhere read on the go, organize your library and annotate PDFs with ...
As a long time Papers user I want to express my extreme disappointment with ReadCube The application is a complete mess and not a viable upgrade from Papers 3 I m not sure which UI toolkit they are using but it appears to be some sort of cross platform atrocity As a result it looks and feels terrible on both iOS and macOS Much of the functionality of Papers has been stripped away and support appears largely absent I sent two emails and a Twitter direct message but no replies The original spirit that drove the independent developers to create Papers appears to be absent now that the company has changed hands a couple of times     Stay away for ReadCube HotFreaks
This app has become necessary for me during my PhD endeavor It provides a good platform for organizing and managing my papers library also tools for accessing online articles are friendly and intuitive with the possibility of synchronizing the library between multiple devices specially my laptop and iPad I wish it had better or more tools for editing articles I use the app in my iPad Pro with Apple Pencil But cannot write down hand written notes I think that s a necessary feature that need to be implemented in order to make the app more appealing and functional or just to make it perfect for scientists                 Essential for scientist echcr
If you have a ton of pdfs that need to be reformatted or properly Labeled author title instead of a code this is a really smart app I stopped using because of space but just got a TB hard drive sooo                 The smartest catalog automation I ve found Cardinal 55
This is easily the best reference manager out there Not only can you sync all your documents from one device to another highlight take notes and tag but it s all wrapped inside a super slick looking app 10 10                     The Best Hands down rosenrot1791
Works with big publishing and journal companies to give downloaders overpriced and limited access to material much of which has been supported by taxpayer funded research     Horrible app monmon77777
App works good for part of my library that has synced to my iPad However it doesn t sync anymore The iPhone version works great         No sync raymjoe
First off the bat I love the app the app interface and the fact support is very good via Twitter and email There are however several limitations which still need to be addressed especially as it relates to syncing 1 Failure to sync some PDFs and difficulty in resolving this especially on the mobile platforms 2 Syncing of incorrect journal particulars for example the journal Marine Chemistry is synced as Water Trans                 A few glitches but works well enough Kadz2014
I was really excited about this app so much so that I upgraded to pro to get the syncing from my desktop to my iPad Unfortunately I discovered it doesn t sync reliably despite being a paid service I lost the annotations on at least 2 pdfs I contacted support and they can t tell me why it might have happened and as there was little warning I m hesitant to trust it again At the very least their customer service should refund a portion of the subscription service as a show of goodwill I ve also found several critical features to still be lacking like linking the annotations to the place in the pdf and providing a page number What good are annotations without the ability to find them again easily in the text I definitely should have waited before purchasing the year of read cube pro I cannot recommend this app in it s current state As an update I ve finally stopped trying to use this program December 2016 There are so many features essential features that are missing and it s just too much of a pain to use I ve exported everything to bookends which so far is much better as support is very responsive I cannot believe ReadCube wants to charge annual for this horrible product     Unreliable Sync really disappointing T dela P
Ive tried them all and this can actually manage my hordes 10k yeah of papers Mendeley and that Zoto one both crash                 Love it
Readcube is one of the better PDF organizers available but the implementation leaves a lot to be desired By far the best feature is the ability to pop up references on the fly but then its difficult to return to reading the paper if you want to look the reference up on pubmed The worst feature is that the automatic metadata gathering is frequently broken especially for older papers sand its extremely difficult to manually enter citation data In spite of the fact that many users probably have advanced degrees the interface is constraining and I often feel as though my intelligence is being insulted Being regularly presented with dialogs about upgrading to the pro version doesnt help either        too much handholding
It has some powerful features for exploring literatures But thats about it Its annotation feature is pretty weak It has bugs It is probably based off some weird Adobe tech like on the Mac Dont expect true native iPad experience here And you have to pay a lot subscription to have Mac iPad sync capability        Frustrating
I really like this app Works well and sync Makes it even better                 Works like a charm
I cannot download article in the app from my university proxy Have to manually import from my computer The app does not have options to open pdf in iBooks or Adobe reader No text to speech support           Cannot open pdf outside of Readcube
Simply the best iOS app for reading scientific papers                 Perfect
So far I love it Its removes the persistent time and burden wrapped up in filing articles efficiently Easy to sort Make notes Probably worth trying once                 Neuroscience Undergrad
It works really well I have had no problems with the iPhone app It is an important reasons to get the desktop app The combination provides a superior reference manager system compared to Zotero and Papers I havent tried Endnote since its hundreds of dollars                 Great
I like read cube nice interface but still so much more that could be done The highlighting is buggy the app doesnt allow you to create separate notes about a file etc However the automatic paper download and proxy connection to institution databases trumps all else Worth the 5 a month subscription if you need that functionality           Good but not yet great
This app is great for researchers I love it                 Excellent
The only missing feature        Need Cited By
Love the enhanced reading features within ReadCube and how it lets me organize my reading library across all my devices Cheers                 Awesome technology
Brilliant app that keeps me and my papers organized Everyone in my lab now uses it                 Where have you been all my life
Love this app I can access it through all of my devices and read my saved papers at all times Syncs well too                 ReadCube
Too many bugs the annoying thing is the missing of the article namethen it provide a wrong name and journal Too funny     Always missing article name
I use Readcube almost daily to manage my large library of PDFs and like its ability to sync the library between my devices Nice job                 Useful research tool
This app has a lot of potential but it definitely needs major improvements It is currently way to buggy on important basic features such as text selectionhighlighting and notes writing With some fixes this app may become better than Mendeley Just not there yet           Lots of potential
Readcube has given scientists and researchers a very useful crossplatform tool which allows them to read organize and cite journal articles and books effectively This means less time wasted on saving and organizing your collection and more time spent reading and thinking While there are several reference managers available readcube has loads of userfriendly and intuitive features which makes reading more enjoyable              One of the top reference managers
So useful This app makes reading papers on the go extremely convenient I cant imagine my commute without it                 Fantastic
Best thing Ive seen to handle my searches and the resulting pile of PDF files Slick and well done A great esthetic to the app                 Great app
Have just got it from Apple store spent 10 mins experiencing all the tools and they are just great at the first glance However I wish Readcube could show full source texts instead of directing me to the links of those sources Since I get into another website where an article originates it requires me to create an account then I would be able to read the article which is a little bit frustrating to me Apart from that this app is just great Thank you programer              It does its job quite nicely
I really like ReadCubes desktop app as its great for searching for literature within the app and I enjoy its organizingimporting capabilities Ive been using it for awhile but I was especially anxious for the Sync feature and iPad app to debut I much prefer ReadCube Pro to Dropbox since you have to have a separate PDF viewereditor if you want to annotate the PDF I used iAnnotate and while it has better annotation features than ReadCube ReadCube is better for its combination of Dropbox and annotative features I look forward to future improvements in the UI and organizational capabilities specifically the ability to reliably nest folders under one another           Useful but still lacking
Indeed search is not comprehensive and the payment window never loads This app is currently good only for reading abstracts that do show up as search results        Considerable discomfort
Use this app both on iPhone and iPad access the cloudstored papers anytime anywhere really convenient                 Great app for scientific literature management
So far very good app              Good
The best research manager Ive come across Much cleaner and faster than Mendeley and Zotero It handles my 11500 papers seamlessly whereas Mendeley either crashed or was too slooow                 I am in love with ReadCube
Import PDF from Dropbox will be very helpful but I know that wont help you guys get pro version standing out So basically this missing feature makes readcube for portable device meaningless        Adding third party cloud is not that hard
The best app for reading and organizing PDFs hands down                 Great app
Glad this finally came out but some serious issues remain for this not being a beta version Has crashed on multiple occasions without saving annotations on an article Ive highlighted you cant click on a reference while reading an article and be taken to it like the desktop version annotations are lacking compared to other PDF apps on the market no google scholar support etc I really want to use this software for organizing my scientific library because the desktop version has been so great but too many promises remain for the mobile version and the fact that its 40 something per year for a work in progress is frustrating I will stick with this company because I think theyre on the right track and have very good ideas moving forward by listening to customers but with as quickly as technology is moving these days I feel like their app is still behind on some very basic features that make their mobile app fully functional despite having created such awesome features on the desktop app        Needs serious work
I started using ReadCube a couple of years ago but got frustrated with how the Library was managed so I uninstalled it I tried Papers another pdf managing software but didnt like it much better than the free version of ReadCube Recently there was a Labor Day promotion for ReadCube Pro 35 for a year subscription I decided to give it a try because manually managing all the pdf files on my laptop is such a daunting task even though Im using Mac which is much better than Windows from my experienceIm very impressed with the improvements and additions of new functionalities I especially like the enhanced pdf feature which allows me to open the SI from either my computer or the publishers website and references with one click This app is saving so much of my research time The auto import function usually recognizes the papers information very well Even when it doesnt its only a few seconds work to help fix the matching by searching on Google Scholar and Im assuming this quick fix helps improving the functions of ReadCube for all other users too Whenever I have problems or questions contacting the tech support is only one click away and they have always replied within 24 hours Oh and also ReadCube Pro synchronizes the Library to Cloud storage which is really useful if you want to access your papers from multiple devices Thank you so much ReadCube team for making my research so much easier The only complaint I have is currently the mobile app only allows reading the pdf after downloading it from the cloud to my iPad Itll be great if I can read it directly on the Cloud                 Significant improvements over the past years
Its great that it syncs to my computer and I can even read annotations from my comp on my tablet I really like that I can search for related articles and such However Ive had this issue where Im reading and highlighting an article then leave the app and when I come back all the annotations are gone You need some form of edit history it appears that when I return it syncs my edit history with whatever is stored on the cloud which isnt the most recent version           It mostly works
Absolutely deplorable search capabilities make this app virtually useless Search is the most important aspect of the app and it barely works     Lousy search makes it unusable
Got an iPad mini just so I could run this app I have the premium subscription and absolutely love it I can read my papers on the go while waiting for meetings Everything is neatly organized in folders for easy access and synchronized to my laptops If youre a researcher or professor this app is a must have                 Awesome to keep up with research
The UI is clunky and incredibly out of place on iOS However I use the app because of the search feature and the citation search feature Would be great if they took a note from slack or apple mail and improved the UI and made it easier to use For example Im sometimes unable to swipe the left menu open And Im continually confused that library in the upper left isnt a button IOS standard usually is offcenter text is a navbar button and center text is a label or header        UI is incredibly frustrating but has powerful features
This is the best app hands down for reading research papers Instead of carrying and lunging around Stacks on stacks of papers in your binder or organizing all your PDFs in messy PC or Mac folders you have it all here The fact that you can color code add notes and have all the ref at your finger tips makes this a highly sought after app Finally we have an app that gives researchers the most sought out commodity time With this app you can use your time to do what matters mostcategorizeintegrate and Focus on new experiments inspired by current data                 Best thing out their for researchers
Im using Mendeley and ReadCube side by side for comparison ReadCube is cleaner looking and prettier but although Mendeley looks more pedestrian I like to have everything there in sight rather than a minimalist design where youre not always sure where to find the function you want to use The search engine of one may be superior to the other but if so its not yet apparent to me It would be great if these programs could integrate with ResearchGate now THAT would be a REAL timesaver Finally ReadCubes free online archivesync limit is 300 Mb whereas Mendeleys is 2 Gb           Helpful but
I like ReadCube a lot use it as my primary method for organizing and reading papers Having access to my entire library on my iPad is super valuable Right now its the only way to organize a library of research papers where your PDFs with annotations are synced from iPad to desktop Mac and PC and where the entire library is organized in a way conducive to browsing scientific literature ie automatically adds article titles abstracts authors metadata supp materials etc instead of just a folder of PDFs There are a few quirks Id like them to work out such as buggy annotation features and the lists system needs nested levels and should be manually sortable Anyway Id say theyve done great work for the first version and I look forward to it getting even better              Great tool for organizing and readingannotating papers
The iOS version is so great but the Mac version is not smooth enough could you please improve that                 Mac version is not smoother enough
I love every bit of this App                 Excellent App
This is an amazing app Ive been using it since the very beginning even betatested the OS X version and the improvements are astounding with each upgrade The developers run also an intelligent pointbased feature request forum on their website which they take very seriously The iOS app interconnects seamlessly with the desktop app via the cloud fortunately not iCloudone would be quickly run out of space there for those with subscription and also interfaces very efficiently with institutional servers via proxy The only reasons for not given 5 stars are the search within the personal database is nonboleean cumbersome and often inexact the same observation is valid for the desktop app article metrics cannot be viewed in the iOS app they are excellent and of huge importance in the desktop app there is no continuity between the desktop and the iOS apps ie one cannot continue reading the articles opened in the desktop app              Excellent please improve search capabilities
Horrible interface nomeasy way to get back to your library and no instructionshelp     Very unintuitive
I love this application but it loses my annotations constantly Please fix I am not paying a monthly subscription for something that cant even save my work        Annoying Needs to be fixed
Design is great however it loses annotations regularly Highlights disappear Needs work for saving annotations I have made           Love and hate
Fantastic Im having a bit of difficulty on iOS with enhanced PDFs though It seems that even though a PDF is enhanced in my desktop it doesnt appear to be so after syncing onto my iPad Please fix                 Great app
The app wont even allow you to register It just gives a false message that there is an internet connection problem when the connection is working fine and then displays a nonfunctioning return to login page that doesnt take you back to the login page The entire app appears to be nothing more than a broken login interface     app doesnt work
I love reading papers on my iPad in ReadCube but it is still somewhat buggy I am a ReadCube Pro user and as previously mentioned there are times when my annotations dont get saved One workaround that seems to work is for me to click sync even if Im not connected to the internet This somehow makes readcube save my annotations Another bug is that shortly after opening the program I will only be able to type one letter into the annotation text box before the box closes so that I cant type I can edit the box but again can only type one letter The only fix Ive found is to restart readcube but this happens every ten minutes it seems So all in all a lovely app for reading but still a bit buggy Also it would be amazing if I could annotate with a stylus right on the PDFs Hope they add this as a feature soon              Decent
Please add download all attached PDF from cloud option in each library or settings similar to desktop Downloading each file is pain              Good app
Love this app Completely changed the way I read articles                 Awesome app
A useless app Wow Truly poor     So buggy it will not open at all
This is great apps but should be free or less expensive for student                 Great
