I spend about 5 months a year in a diesel pusher Yearly trips include a onemonth trip to the Canadian Rockies a trip to Yuma from Wyoming in November and a return trip to Wyoming via Seattle Ive used the app for a year now Heres my take on whats right and whats not right about the app First of all having the GPS data on the iPad is great Much better than on a smaller GPS that cant be easily read I bought a RAM mount for it and the iPad sits next to my right knee in the RV and is easy to use and very easy to see Thats the biggest plus I have for the app The routing is pretty good but not always perfect My Garmin in the car is better in some ways and worse in others On the current trip while in my car using the Garmin I got routed to the middle of nowhere TWICE by my Garmin friend so no GPS is perfect The not so good portions of the app are really annoying When driving up the coast on US 101 the background couldnt figure out if it was on dry land or out in the ocean It kept switching back an forth between green or brown for dry land and blue for water Was VERY VERY annoying to see the thing switch colors often out of the corner of my eye Its a bad bug and should be fixed I used to be able to get weather overlaid on the map Since the last update thats broken JUST BROKEN are you listening Rand McNally It was extremely good when I had it Its really NOT SO GOOD now that I dont have it FIX IT The splash screen says that I need to update my maps even though I just burned through a gigabyte of WiFi goodness to update it I think its a leftover from the standalone models maps It just shows that not a lot of care went into the porting of the program ti the iPad I would really really like to like this app I use it a lot despite its very real shortcomings but its getting more and more annoying to use with the things that are wrong with it Especially paying about 10 times what other apps cost           Good intentions but its a rough unfinished app
I bought the app with trepidation it is new and there were very few reviews However everything I read made it look like the Rand McNally RVND 7720 LM software ported over to the iPad and that is exactly what it is except that it is on a 9 inch screen in stead of a 7 inch screen If you read the reviews on this dedicated gPS unit that sells for about 350 you are reading about this app I installed it on my old first generation iPad which had been relagated to the almost useless pile of stuff when I got a new ASUS Nexus 7 and my wife got a new iPad Mini It has a whole new life now We have two Garmin Nuvi 2460 LMTs that are wonderful and have served me quite well in the last couple of years in the cars and the Motorhome However they are car GPSs not tailored to the Motor Home We had to go from Las Vegas to Oxnard Ca and back this week on business so we took the car and when my wife was driving I played with app I absolutely love this app Besides giving new life to an old piece of equipment it does so much more than the Garmin and is much more intuitive and easier to use than the Gsrmin Hard to belive as the Garmin is a dream to use Did i say i love the app that is an understatement It has so many nice features that are tailored to the RV It is so nice to just tap the screen and see what is available at the next exit great for Car and RV driving Making detours is easier than the garmin adding one of the things you see aup ahead to your trip as a way poibt is just a single click It shows RV friendly gas stations You can display the POIs on the map andf then just touch one to read about it and add it to your trip if you decide you want to go there just a tap or two Sure my Garmin can do this but it is more cumbersome This app is great My only problem is that I now have to teach my wife how to use it I drive the RV and she usually reads map books eetc to do what can now be done with this app The good thing is that it is so easy to use I am sure that she will be a wiz with it very soon My only negative is that I would like to turn off the animalpet related POIs There are way too many of them cluttering the map when you display POIs on the map and they are totally useless to me I have emailed the company and requested info about whether this is possible I suspect that it might just be a simple modification to the app that could allow selecting the types of POIs you want to display Hopefully this will be available in a update soon I agree with someone elses comment that it would be very nice if you could select addressesdestinations from your contacts list on the iPad Again this would probably be a fairly simple mod to the software With these two changes I would rate this app 6 or 7 stars if it was possible The price may seem high and it is indeed more than i have ever spent on any app for an iPhone or iPad and I have been using both since they first came out However the app is well worth the price for what it does and i have no regrets about spending the money THIS APP IS GREAT If you have an iPad and an RV you definately want this app Great Work Rand McNally I forgot to mention but it comes with lifetime maps and a 2013 Rand McNally road atlas that you can view in the app As with all maps on the iPad pinch zoom rotate and everything work in the road atlas Thanks Again Chuck                 WOW A whole new world
Cannot update maps spoke to rand McNally tech support they are not providing updates for this app any longer Was a good app I do not think it should be available in the App Store any longer unless it states that maps cannot be updated Not worth 10000 I also think we should get our money back we paid for the app     Ripoff
The app does not work on my iPad mini freezes at main screen do not buy until they offer an update to correct this     Frozen Rand McNally GPS
The app should be able to link to the iPads contacts One should be able to edit the address and other fields within the app instead of clearing it out or backspacing it out Should be able to scroll without using up and down arrows thats ancient technology In some instances the routes to an address show the entrance is on the wrong street from the actual address For the price a little disappointed           Needs improvement
This is a HORRIBLE app There are several issues with this app For 100 bucks this app should be perfect COME ON RAND MCNALLY FIX THIS APP OR GIVE US A CREDIT TOWARDS YOUR GPS ISSUES WITH THIS APP 1 if you forget to open prior to getting on the road and there is an update that needs to be downloaded you are out of luck You cannot skip the update to use the app at all And the update can take a LONG TIME hours sometimes to download 2 Cannot to iPhone for 100 I should be able to have on my iPhone as well 3 information is incorrect for stops especially for truck stops RV parking rest stops and even campgroundsRV parks 4 The weightlength feature is pretty much useless What really bothers me is that issues 3 and 4 are the reasons we got this app and we cant even depend on these features I am really disappointed We are now using the Good Sam members website along with Gas Buddy Road Ahead myPilot TruckSmart for exits to plan our trips which allows us to can enter our RV sizelength Apparently I can upload to the Good Sam GPS also made by Rand McNally but cant upload to this one Another reason I am annoyed with this app why cant I upload maps from Good Sam to this app This app needs to work as promised instead of being ignored by the developers at Rand McNally PLEASE FIX THIS APP so it works properly is accurate and integrates with Good Sam maps that can be created from the website     WASTE buy a separate GPS unit instead or go to Good Sam website
Originally the app was ok but Rand McNally has missed the boat and let this app whither away No recent support no updates I spent 99 bucks on the app with the expectation that a company with a great reputation would support their customers but I think they have decided to willfully neglect the customers that purchased this app It has great potential IF they would update maps and freshen the user interface Not worth the money now as it stands        They have given up on this App
There was a slight blip during the initial download where it had a second download that wasnt very clear at the start Takes up a decent amount of space Kind of confusing at the start but after everything was done it worked out fine After everything installed however it looks like everything ran smoothly Long install big file but everything works great I cant speak for the other reviews here but it is a great alternative to the other expensive RV alternatives              Good product slight issues
Bought this app to use this summer with my shiny new RV Took a quick trip from CT to DC and even though I set for Fastest Route this piece of junk had me in the backroads of New Jersey and Pennsylvania instead of taking Interstates On the return trip I did my own navigation and saved myself 45 minutes of drive time It did at least route me around the Baltimore tunnels like it is supposed to Ill give it another chance but so far junk     If you like seeing the backroads
I have an iPad 2 and this app is non functional Something needs to be done for buyers to receive a refund Almost 100 for nothing This is just robbery     I am shocked to pay this much for an app that does not function
If youre an iPad user hopefully Ive caught your attention Im about to go full time RVing and needed a good GPS for my 40 motorhome I spent a long time researching the various options though obviously not long enough and selected this Rand McNally app for several reasons 1 Rand McNally are a reputable company 2 I liked the featurefunctions of the app as described 3 I could use my large screen iPad Air and 4 it was 13 the cost of a GPS unit Where I went wrong was assuming that when Rand McNally stated my iPad WIFI only would need a GPS utility I didnt know this meant a little device costing 100 that had to be plugged into my lighting port ie cant charge at the same time I cant fully blame Rand McNally for this but I sure would have liked a clearer definition around this limitation There were other issues I ran into the app and maps are huge 3 GB and the app would hang periodically but the GPS function was the killer for me I now own a real 350 GPS for my RV and a 99 iPad app floating around the app burial grounds RAND MCNALLY Please consider rewording your description around this limitation for us less technical folks or allow us to trade in our 99 app for one of your real RV GPS I believe youre too good of a company to allow this confusion and apparent money collection from iPad Wifi owners to continue much longer        iPAD WIFI BEWARE
Contrary to other reviewers I had no problems using on my iPad mini and gen 2 iPad Worked great on both an update was available about halfway through my trip and it gave me the option to skip and worked great                 Works great
This app simply does not work Even on its best day it is clunky Right now it insists that I download an update but then it wont download the update even though my WiFi connection is perfectly fine Its nuts to build an application you use on the road and then insist that an update be downloaded via WiFi and not to give you the option to use the application as it is Right now my app wont even let me into the maps it wont let me do anything It just keeps saying that my WiFi connection is broken but my WiFi connection is perfectly fine In fact Im using WiFi to do this review I really liked the TripMaker program that this app is worthless and it simply doesnt work I hate it     It doesnt work
I bought this app for gps while pulling my 5th wheel It is not good at all It sent me in about the worst possible route Ive only used it one time but I think once is enough I have no idea why this company thinks this is for rvs 1980s at best graphics Night view is impossible to see I have nothing good to report about this app I highly do not recommend it     Not worth the money
Somehow this review NEVER was posted At least its still hanging out when I open reviews to write one Its at least a year or more since the review below Ive bought a new RV a new truck a new iPhone an iPad Air but still have my mini iPad with the Rand McNally maps Suffice it to say I love the navigational system For some it may be more than a gentle learning curve but there is a tutoring session when you first open the app Since writing the review below I am upping the stars to 5 Well worth the price compared to other navigational apps on the market Spending time at home configuring saving sites checking close by POIs etc POIs need to be more uptodate Some restaurants in my area have been closed for three years and others open for as long with no listing POI Ive been a Garmin user since the early 2000s and will use this on my next trip along with my Garmin I especially like increasing the ETA according to how I drive with a travel trailer Very easy to find locationsRV sites that will be needed and then saved with all info intact Learning curve is gentle and will experiment more around my city before the big six week trip in a couple of weeks Hopefully the roads are more up to date than the local restaurant POIs So far I am very pleased with what I see Will review again in a few weeks I am using a mini iPad 32 gb with the GPS chip Must have that or else wont work on the road Mine is ATT cellular that is NOT activated UPDATE now have used on road for a few months both in car mode and RV mode I do love this GPS but am also holding onto my Garmin for local stuff around town and not having to drag my mini ipad to the car each time Some quirks that I can recall no GO HOME button to push My work around is to edit name in address book and call it 001 HOME Still takes more steps than just tapping once on the screen to go home at some campsites visited in Michigan wed go out on our daily visit and then return to the designated campsite in the address book On return the GPS would locate site on opposite side of road than its original location and the voice would also locate on opposite side of road For example on right in 750 feet and the campground would be on the left This happened on several different campground sites during trip in July would warn of curves when none in the path I finally turned this feature off Was a bit bothersome would state slight right or left when it should have been turn right etc This I know happens with all navigational maps even my heavily used Garmin took me on a dirt road when I had this turned off in the GPS Also if you have a dirt road turned off youre unable to find that road if youre looking for it Thats the good and bad of it For example I was trying to locate a friends house in upper peninsula Michigan Unable to locate when DIRT ROADS turned off in settings Of course found on Garmin GPS but had no idea it was a 2 mile skinny dirt road Now Ill keep dirt roads turned off in settings but when unable to find a street name on the Rand McNally I will turn back on for locational purposes and then decide whether to turn down the dirt road path Needs contacts integration with iOS Some great features highways exits and showing what lanes you should be innice and large and mostly very accurate routing and rerouting very fast much quicker than the Garmin and without the nauseous recalculating voice None of that can turn ONOFF DIRT ROADS setting Although I had a problem finding an address when not wanting to go on a dirt road this is an excellent feature On my Garmin I was once routed a back road by car in TN and it routed me 10 miles on a hardly used dirt road I had a visiting fourteen year old with me at the time and I had to make it fun as we pummeled our way through the rough terrain of fallen trees washed out parts of road deep crevices and no sign of human life Finally towards the very end a big truck approached we didnt know it was close to the end of the dirt road two men got out and asked why we were on this road Fortunately they were helpful in getting us out and moving their truck over so we could pass by ONOFF DIRT ROADS IS A GREAT SETTING easy to read and also easy to find POIs and use via points lots of RV settings that can be individualized and turned on and off to each persons needs Rand McNally suggestions of what to see in an area Used this a few times to jog memory and also find new local interests when traveling visual layout great and easy to change and follow love the button for finding RV campsites Makes the trip so much easierand also great for mapping overnight stops before you step out your front door A huge plus when camping while traveling able to see POIs at next exit When RVing this is our gps system of choice and we know itll only get better and better Love it Do spend time getting to know it before taking on the road Theres lots of nifty stuff and ways to navigate back and forth to change settings routes etc Do remember that you must have the cellular ipad or mini ipad to use this navigational system As others have stated you dont need to buy data from your cellular service but only this type of ipad or mini ipad has the GPS chip for navigational purposes                 Have not taken on road yetand then later have
Loved this app until latest update when it simply stopped working Tried to contact vendor but no response Do not buy this app     App gone bad
Installed this app on my iPad mini and my husbands IPad Did the update on both app worked the first time we opened it then subsequent times both apps crashed when trying to open Deleted app reinstalled did update and again both crashed Have attempted to contact Rand Mcnally via email and no response     Does Not Work
This app no longer works Before IOS 7 this app worked great With the upgrade to IOS 7 andor the associated map update it no longer works I have downloaded the app multiple times with the same results load the map updates run the app okay and then close the app When I try to load the app again it freezes on the start screen and will not load Eventually it gives up and returns to my home screen I will be requesting a refund of my 99     Do not Buy
It took some time to learn how how to use the app on our wireless only iPad Yes you do need an accessory the Bad Elf GPS Receiver Theyre priced competitively online We highly recommend this app for RVing After personalizing your RV measurements the app will tell you where your RV can safely go and what to avoid This app is so much better than having a GPS only piece of equipment                 An excellent App
Great start as an iPad app I have used it on a couple of trips recently and it has functioned well The display is easy to read though it seems a bit clunky The following are my major criticisms No integration with the iPad address book No portrait orientation option It is a memory hog at about 35 GB versus most others with onboard maps like Tom Tom around 15 GB time to upgrade to that 128GB iPad I tried a routing that would take me through Baltimore and the propane restricted tunnels and it did the tunnel route rather than around the beltway              Good start for a RV GPS app
buy with caution worked before update now does not work so sad when it worked it was great with the ipod air doesnt work     buy with caution worked before update now does not work so sad
Im stuck without a GPS because of the forced download Talked to support and they suggested a restart on the iPad but that didnt work It would make sense to provide a way around the update for folks on the road I tried at my local library to update it and it said it would take 24 hours Im stuck with no GPS until I can find a fast hotspot When it was working I did love it The curve and speed zone warnings were helpful as was the ease of use and customized rig settings Good product with one nasty flaw for people without access to high speed wifi        Mr
I have used many GPS devices and I phone GPS apps and when I saw this one for the I pad I downloaded it at a cost of 9900 because it was designed for RVs and I have a motor home When I download an address to navigate to it starts out talking to me but as soon as I complete the 1st step it never talks to me again It shows an RV but it sometimes changes the direction and show me going down the street sideways and then turns me back All the other GPSs I use work like they are suppose to At this point I would not recommend this product to anyone I have tried to use it 4 times with same results     Total waste of my money
After three weeks Apple nor Rand McNally have been able to get this app to work with an iPad mini     Very disappointed
I bought this app 2 years ago and the map data is terribly out of date The app has a warning message when it comes up that states the map data is more than a year old and tells you to go to the Rand McNally website to download an update Howeverthere is no way to down load an update to an iPad Customer Service is aware of the issue but stated that there is no current plan to provide map data updates for the iPad app Very poor support for a very expensive app     Do not buy this if you want current maps
This is what the Rand McNally CEO says to his software engineering team Bought over a month ago havent been able to use even once Called said they are working on a fix They have to be stupid to ignore this market this long I should have gotten my money back What a waste No stars is what this app deserves and the publisher deserves minus 5 stars     Quality control What is that
I would like more current map data I would also like to see live traffic added Otherwise its ok but Im not sure it was worth the 10000 Also it would be nice if I could change the order of items in my checklist That is a little clunky           Maps slightly outdated
On our first trip with it it led me to the wrong place and this was one of the most popular campgrounds around I still havent found a way to contact rand about that from within the app as mentioned in the help file The app really makes our iPad a huge GPS and it feels like a navigation unit The help also mentions the ability to load your own points of interest but I dont see this capability in the app yet Overpriced in my opinion for what you get           Great for a first generation
After reading the reviews I was upset that my husband had bought this app for our camping trip from Michigan to California After one update a day after buying this app we never had to update again Our trip was so much better with the assistance of Rand Once my husband thought his Google map was better because it was taking us directly to our destination Rands route looked a little longer Google took us on awfully ruff dirt roads Rand avoided the dirt road and it actually took less time We used it daily for mapping out various side trips that we would never have done After 4 weeks we still discovered more that the app could do I would buy this app again if I needed to                 Great app
Finally the app works Although it doesnt look like they have updated the app the app does an update once you load it and now it works with my iPad air Awesome app                 It works
This is an excellent app from the initial version and it has lots of potential to get even better Ive been using a variety of other apps on the iPad for navigation in my coach and was very happy to see Rand make this available It seems pricey compared to other options but if you have an iPad I think this is the best option for RV Nav If you dont have an iPad strongly consider buying one this app rather than a standalone GPS for your RV                 Excellent Start
I am blown away this app will only one time before you have to uninstall it and reinstall it Sent an email to tech support since they are closed waiting for a response     If you are looking to spend 99 for an app that crashes and freezes this is the app for you
Took a long time to install 15GB It was easy to set up and put in destinations Multistop route were difficult On the send day it stopped working and would sit on the splash screen for 60 second and the exit Uninstalled and reinstalled all 15GB three times with the same results I want my hundred bucks back     Worked for almost two days once
We just returned from a 7300 mile road trip and this app worked great I also had my trusty old Garmin running to compare routes and 99 of the time they were in agreement But for an RV trip this app told us so much more We used it to find campgrounds on our route When we needed fuel it told us what services were available at each exit I used it to find RV dump stations and a repair service Sometimes the Garmin gave us better POI information on tourist attractions but I consider that minor The app is extremely fast and the interface on an iPad is very well laid out and easy to read We spent a lot of time out of cell range but this had no effect on operation My only comment is that it needs to be easier to build a multi segment route and be able to see travel times for each segment The app only shows total time There is a lot of trip information available that I havent used yet but will on subsequent trips I consider this app although expensive to be a musthave for future trips It gives the same functionality as far as I can tell of the Rand McNally GPS for a lot less money assuming you already have the iPad Definitely 5 stars in my opinion                 Excellent App
No software or map updates in over a year     ABANDONED APP Do Not Buy
Do not buy this app No support Maps are out of date and numerous requests to support have gone unanswered Complete waste of money Very unhappy that this app is still available for purchase     Capt
I have had the IPad RV GPS for 3 years At first it was great with the big screen on the IPad and good routing and databases But there is no support for updating you can not update the IPad version I now have the full free standing GPS which is easily updated on line McNally should refund our money if they are not going to enable updating the IPAD version     Rand McNally GPS not supported
A friend and I each purchased this app separately on our iPads and each with the identical results It was downloaded installed then did a map update The app simply would not function it went to the home screen froze for about 30 seconds then crashed Same thing with repeated attempts We each deleted it reinstalled it did the map update again and had the same results nothing I contacted the developer who said they could not figure out the problem but would investigate and call back within 24 hours Three days later they still had not contacted me so I called again They still could not figure out the problem My friend and I each got refunds from the App Store but would rather have had the app if it was functioning Purchase with caution     Does Nothing
I got this for a long RV trip hoping it would make things much easier Unfortunately there are so many things wrong here its tough to know where to begin The app is basically a port of a dashboard GPS device so the controlls are unnecessarily clunky and the functions are really limited The first thing that happens after you download the 3GB app is that it FORCES you to do a 17 GB update After that I was able to open the app long enough to see all the functions but the next time I opened the app it forced the 17GB update again and now the download fails every time Since you have no choice but to do the update and it keeps failing I cant use the software After forever on hold Rand McNally tech support said they cant help me but theyd be happy to let the developer know about the problem Thanks Big help I know its disappointing but this is a 99 piece of worthless software Save yourself the trouble and if you really want it go by the dashboard deviceVery sad     99 App that doesnt work
Spoke with customer support The map update for I pad app has a known defect They are working on a fix No timeline If you have not updated do not Disappointing quality control     Map update has a bug
For 99 I would expect more details for RV users Example You can choose which points of pre programmed POI you can display in the map Great lot of choices Now under the tab RV POI there is ZERO selection what to display in maps All pre programmed POI show on the map or none This is a RV GPS and if I enable RV POI then I get about 8 Animal Doctors centers on my map and I do not even have a pet Under this tab I would want to choose my own selections like camgrounds Cracker Barrels Truck Stops mostly RV specific POI           RV GPS App
This is an awesome app except for one issue The information displayed on the screen we use an iPad is well placed and not cluttered The turnbyturn directions are clear HOWEVER whenever there is an update the app will not let you use it until you update the app Twice in one week we got update notices Both times we were in the middle of a trip Then it becomes necessary to find a wifi spot connect and wait until it updates So the app is useless until you update it on wifi Not the best thing to happen to you while on a trip So if you use this app ALWAYS have another gps to use when this happens If they fix this it would be a 5star     Would be a 5star except for one issue
Great though expensive app except for one big problem On the first trip out the directions it provided to the campground from the address embedded with the software asked me to cross an ancient bridge on a one lane road Go ahead ask me how hard it is to turn around 40 foot RV with tow vehicle on a one lane country road looking back I should have questioned the directions more instead of blindly following as it took us further and further into the country My only excuse is that a lot of campgrounds weve been to are in exactly those kinds of places The app on my iPad is relatively simple easytouse with a clear screen layout Directions were easytofollow graphics were simple but good After we got ourselves turned around asked for right directions to the campground opposite side of town from where the RV GPS had us headed from a nice little old lady sitting in her backyard we called the number on the website to report what I consider a risky situation It turns out that you can call you get TECH support and an unenthusiastic Ill take down your information for inclusion in the next update but when I asked for CUSTOMER support that doesnt exist according to the fellow on the other end of the line Company with no customer service or at least none that the techs know about Thats a sure sign of bad things to come So spend your 100 maybe its still worth it but know youll want to double check the route before you leave     Great app EXCEPT
Got the app for Xmas from kids doesnt work and rand McNally knows and has done nothing Supposed to call back and still havent heard anything working on getting back my 9900 for my kids What a shame a company this big just doesnt care     Dont buy
