If I don t kill the app after using it my battery runs down Checking Settings Battery shows Praxis taking 50 70 hours after I m done with the latest practice entry while other active apps are 5 10         Ok Functionality battery use ridiculous wking-cma
I ve edited this review to remove one star after watching my battery die at an astounding rate of about one percent per minute Since I practice 90 120 minutes most days this is a real problem I know my battery is not old because I had it replaced less than two months ago I also think one of my suggestions for improvement needs clarification It needs to show how many minutes I have practiced today A bar graph is inadequate I try to rest every 15 20 minutes but a short bar next to a 90 minute bar could be 20 minutes or 35 Impossible to use the app to time my breaks Not sure now if it meets my needs Original review Like some other reviewers I was a long time user of MusicJournal but when it was not updated for iOS 11 I had to look for an alternative None is all there but Praxis Music Practice Journal comes close It is useful as is and could be great with a few changes Here are my suggestions unlike a lot of apps this app has no way to contact the developer with tips First the text is too small It might not be a factor for a lot of users but I m 65 and the text is very difficult to read By text I m mostly referring to the names of the pieces or goals I have set The controls are way to small too It takes me at least three or four times to start or stop the timer and the control is so close to the Add note control half the time I end up selecting that instead Similarly when I try to edit a goal piece at least half the time I instead start a practice session because my finger did not touch the very tiny i in exactly the right pixel There is no way to edit the time spent practicing a piece While you can add a generic practice session it isn t linked to any goal There is no way to set a different goal for different days I always divide up new or difficult pieces into various challenges With this app you have to enter a new goal for the same piece for each different part of it Too much trouble and it makes the practice list unnecessarily long as the same piece may be listed numerous times It is a SERIOUS battery drain I haven t gotten an exact correlation between usage and battery drain but I used it for just over 90 minutes today and my 6 battery was down under 30 when I finished when it should have been 80 The metronome is pretty worthless Too soft to hear no way to change the volume or sound or to add your own sound no flash no way to add minor and major accents no visual cue just a barely audible click Not worth including IMHO The progress indicator when practicing is ridiculous Very twitchy and jumpy ultimately distracting but not useful There is nothing wrong with a bar progress indicator if it shows a percentage of the time set for example but not when it changes the scale every second or two Fortunately you can turn that off But it would be nice to see a useful progress indicator like You have practiced 45 minutes of 90 minutes scheduled There seems to be no way to manually order pieces in a practice session Since I usually work on 10 20 pieces in a day finding my warmup in the list is annoying So I see bunch of ways to improve this app But that I am going to this much trouble to lay out ways to improve it means it is useful enough that I am using it Otherwise I would have given it 3 stars But I m using it and likely will continue while hoping for improvements That s more than I can say for some other apps I ve checked out             Useful with promise PDFs all day
I play classical guitar for approximately 12 years I ve been using the iOS app MusicJournal The developer decided not to support iOS 11 update so far I have downloaded a dozen of the other app practice journals for the iPhone seeking a replacement None of these fit into the flexibility that the MusicJournal app fulfilled This application Praxis come closest to meeting my requirements It has a straightforward user interface It is clean and logically arranged and is easy to navigate Edits and updates are relatively painless It is lacking the ability to enter any type of practice notes or manually add time to a closed session There seems to be a minor bug auto syncing to the iCloud server The app has a tendency to freeze up The workaround is only to sync manually With these 3 limitations I really like this app and would give it five stars if fixed and updated Update found notes area App has ability to add missed sessions Nice                 Almost there Gjc1234557
I would like to see the ability to enter info from computer to synch w the app If you re adding a lot of info via phone it gets tedious             Good but needs work @fogbuster
This program has great potential It is However extremely buggy It freezes up all the time and takes forever to load sometimes Also it doesn t correctly sync up consistently Please fix these bugs ASAP so we can get our money s worth             Needs bugs fixed Gghdrums
This app is for the most part very robust and has a lot of nice features You start by making goals such as increase speed learn a song etc determine how you will measure the goal and then off you go My favorite part is probably the ability to write notes with every practice session so you can comment on your progress and read it before you practice next time which reminds you of just where you were at and what you were doing There are unfortunately some flaws however First many people myself included can have trouble finding an appropriate goal measure For instance you have to choose certain days you will practice there is no way around it That s fine for many people but a lot of us have hectic schedules and our goals are based more on practicing a certain amount of time per week not so much practicing at specific times For example I d like to practice a technique 4 hours per week as a goal but what days I work on that will vary from week to week so having to set certain days to practice is annoying because it never works out that way Perhaps it s a small annoyance but I would like to see an option that you will practice a certain amount of time per week and not have to set specific days Other flaws The app is pretty buggy There is a lot of strange behavior like you ll practice at a certain BPM and then it will save the session with a different BPM in the log The charts are jittery and refresh over and over which just makes them behave strangely Etc Overall it s such a great idea and incorporates most things very well but it s flaws end up making you wish they had spent less time adding all the options and more time just making sure it all worked My hope is there will be an update that addresses the above issues if so it would go up to close to 5 stars             Could be great with some modifications Scalelokt
The basics are here but this is very limited in what you can do Practices have to be scheduled or they can t be saved Scheduling them is limited to either specific days of the week or specific days of the month 1 31 This schedule can only be limited by a start and end date That s fine for some items where you have a dedicated practice time but things come up and my regime just isn t that rigid I also have several practice exercises that are back burner items that I ll fit in if I have free time but don t want to schedule Too bad they have to be scheduled I ve been scheduling all of those type items to the 31st of the month which unfortunately is the closest you can do to leaving it open This is my main issue with this app I have to schedule items by day or date that I don t want to be tied down to a specific day or date I can t be the only one who has exercises that float depending on available practice time and the changing prioritization of other practice items The entering of practices assumes you re going to use the app to start and stop the clock in real time while you do them That s convenient when you don t want to have to keep track of start stop times but I use the other option to enter the info manually after the fact You can relate multiple databases and multiple folders and use this for multiple users but you can t create new categories which I would find a lot more useful Update I don t know if I missed it or this was changed but creating new categories is supported The developers seem very open to comments on their Facebook page and hopefully will be adding more features and increasing the usability so I think this will grow into a quite useful app It s still been helpful to track my practice time but if knew I d have to work within so many restrictions before I paid for it I might have held off and just built a spreadsheet to use until more features were added         Limitations can be frustrating Michael518
Overall I am happy with this App Here are some constructive suggestions 1 Make Start and Stop button LARGE It is small and in a weird location off to the side so I have to hit it multiple times to get it to start or stop 2 I accidentally didn t stop my practice time once and now it looks like I practiced for 80 minutes that day I d just like to delete that entry or edit it but it seems to be impossible 3 Please make it possible to set a goal without specifying the days of the week For example I want to practice 150 minutes a week but can t predict which days I will do it in advance 4 If you fix these things i will give you 5 stars             Good App needs work Fat Lenster
I am always striving to get my practice sessions more structured That s why I bought this app There is however one key element missing which is the ability to creat a real schedule It lets you designate a certain amount of time for a specified time period but you can t attach a specified time of the day to it Also since it is called a journal it would be nice if it would let me attach photos to a note for example a picture of the scale I wanna work on And there is so much more missing here I don t have the time to get into it Bottom line this app is way too expensive for the few things it can do for me As of now I won t use it         Very limited Tgjazz
Looks like this app might solve the problems at least partially of what Just Practice and Music Journal had and never seemed to be able or willing to solve However since I haven t used it yet I can t comment on its usability but already as I m starting to populate my database I have noticed a few issues that I think should be addressed 1 I couldn t find out how to delete anything since I m still in the test setup phase of using the app so I came here to the main app page in the App Store and that s where I learned how to delete something swipe left This indicates that a help manual circled i button would be most helpful 2 Secondly while the app advertises that you can delete folders by swiping left in fact that is not true I swiped left on folders that were full of things I added and also empty and all a left swipe did was reveal the contents of the folder if it had anything 3 Importing data This one is a big one for me I have a database which I use to track basically everything about my life as a musician Mainly it consists of the books charts exercises resources etc to help guide my practice The largest amount of that data comes from songs in songbooks Now since this app has per goal metronome settings if that is the goal type it stands to reason that this app would be great for targeting specific pieces to play up to speed However I am not going to hand enter hundreds of songs that I aspire to work on I would rather spend that time practicing so I would request the ability to import tables of data for example by pointing to spreadsheet out on iCloud for example or one of the other cloud services such as Dropbox or Google Drive 4 I cannot seem to rearrange any items in any list I wish I could hold or double tap on list items and move them up and down to put them in alpha order for example 5 I can t force sync any changes to iCloud and I don t get any indication that any syncing or backing up of my data is taking place Please consider adding the ability to force a sync backup and or a backup sync indicator to let the user know that their hard entered data are safe 6 I don t know if you can have multiple levels of structure It seems to me that you get Categories and Folders and then the items under folders So for example if I use the default Song Category and wish to put a songbook and its contents in the journal I would prefer to be able to add another folder under Song and then add its pieces beneath it The structure right now seems to be limited to one or two levels and therefore all pieces I wish to work on would sit in the same level Organizationally this seems like it would be a nightmare to scroll through Other than that I really really like how the app is designed and what it aspires to be It hasn t crashed on me yet like those other two apps I mentioned and which I have since ditched so I look forward to some very good enhancements coming out of this app over time                 Looks quite promising Zerex71
This has potential to be the best app out there for practicing but it needs a few improvements First and foremost allow the creation of a manual quick activity for those times you forget to use the timer I want to add a new item set the time and by save It would also be great to be able to add items in the past so even if I forgot it yesterday I can still capture the practice session             Has potential Kengleason
Hands down this is the best practice log on iOS since the departure of the Just Practice app from the App Store There is always room for improvements but basically this is a great program                 The best prmac
A few things this app is missing The ability to delete sessions if you added one in by accident for example Edit each goal after they are created Sometimes we may set a goal that s a little bit unreasonable and we would like to have an easy way of editing them Deleting goals Again for if we accidentally add them we must be able to easily delete them If having to Archive a goal that unintentionally created then that s poor design from a functionality standpoint I don t want to have to be forced to rebuild or recreate a database for just trying to get rid of one little mistake It s simply just poor design if you don t include a Delete feature in places of the app where appropriate For the most part all the other features work as expected No major failures other than having to rebuild a database from scratch because of one little mistake             Almost good but nicuraguanboy
Too many required steps I don t want to always set a practice goal sometimes I just want to log track what I played             Has potential too complicated Skeus
