Basically a good product but no support Call on the phone and get mailbox full Email and never get a reply             No support Scott K P

Years ago this was a good product in the printed form I purchased the digital version for the iPad earlier this year and it is terrible They cant even update the information for the services available at the airport in their home town Then iOS 11 came out and rendered the app completely useless Stay away Outdated information and no iOS support Yeah I can use my subscription through a web browser for outdated information     Stay Away From This App Mkelleyp
Months have gone by now since iOS v11 has come out and this is one of only a few apps I have which the developer has still not to updated for compatibility I have contacted the developer and was given no specific timeline only that it was being worked on that was a few weeks ago This used to be a great resource for pilots but is sorely lacking support now     Where is the support mderwin
Loved the Pilots Guide info and format ever since I started flying but it appears they ve abandoned updating the app for a number of years and it s now incompatible with iOS11     Might be done DesmoD16
I have been using the California Pilots Guide for more than 4 years It is a great concept and the information it provides is unique This started out as a published document that was converted into an application Unfortunately it is not in a format that can be updated or the publishers are not investing the effort into updating it Updates are in the crude form of an errata list In addition updates are only being made infrequently twice a year This really is not much more than a historic point in time view of airport information that is destined to a slow spiral into obsolescence         Outdated Hpatten
overpriced app will not download in app purchase customer service consists of trying to get you to use time consuming customer id for downloads or telling you to contact apple should be removed from app store     dysfunctional in every way Ascottyb
After I downloaded the app I discovered it costs 70 just for California and the Southwest Holy cow And I need more areas of coverage as well So I deleted the app and use the old brown books and Wingx s database I might consider 70 for the whole country but there are enough other sources available to spend more than that         Expensive Data Plans nvpatentlawyer
The Pilots Guide IMHO is the best guide a Pilot could ask for when it comes to planning a Flight The Approach Departure notes are a tremendous insight to a new airport The diagrams photos all other pertinent data are outstanding I have been a customer for 8 years transitioned from paper to IPAD app I am just happy I live in the West so I benefit from such a great Guide In addition Chris Fouquet is always responsive helpful with customer service technical Support                     A Cornucopia of pertient data sojorrn
Useless     Non functional In all the wrong places
Years ago yes years this company stopped updating its data While the information in this product particularly the California product since the other regions have a different format and flavor and are not as helpful is unique meaning you won t find anything like it elsewhere the iPad data is at least two years old and the printed product is about four years out of date Writing in November 2012 Since the iPad version is just a simple page viewer for the printed product well you get the idea This product has almost no features just a simple location airport search and the ability to swipe pages to advance The simplest of technology The weather feature is 100 useless Not only is the weather screen garbled text if you think that weather means the weather at the airport you re viewing well you ll be disappointed The arrangement of airports into towered untowered and basic strips categories made little sense in the printed product but it makes no sense at all in an electronic product When you page through in the iPad version you go A Z in the towered airports then you page through A Z in the untowered airports then you go through A Z in the basic strips It s a lot of swiping if your search comes up empty The company is unresponsive to communication Given the critical importance of having correct airport information this program should be removed from sale I have no idea what isn t current so I have stopped using both the printed and iPad versions And so should you     Obsolete and out of date NoLaughingMatter
Old input Yes it is slow and the user interface is poor but the data is nice exactly like the printed books I look forward to them fixing the app so it has a much more intuitive interface And yes I paid 79 for the full data set I should have waited New I have flown with this app a lot now and had been a user of the printed books since the 1980s I do have to say that the info and presentation is the best there is for VFR flying into airports and helpful for the IFR folks too to know where the FBOs etc are and what the normal approach styles those VFR folks are flying I am running it on a iPad 3 now so that seems to have fixed the speed issue                     Nice data but the app needs a lot of work REVISED genep
I ve used the Pilots Guide in paper format for many years and am so happy to see it in digital form on the iPad The app is well constructed making it easy to access airport information One of the features I really enjoy is the weather button I can select an airport then push the weather button and immediately find METAR and TAF information for the destination airport as well as nearby airports The plain language delineation of these weather reports will certainly be a big asset for student pilots too The ability to pinch and rescale airport maps and informational text is a big help This is especially valuable for anyone over 50 who suddenly discovers that they can t read text smaller than that found on a stop sign I think the app is a great product and offers good value to the user                     Excellent iPad App for Pilots Rod Machado, CFI, Author
Very slow does not have all airports as it advertises location finder doesn t work and the warning bar in bottom cuts off any info that could be potentially important     Poor Kaliki'ana
Buggy as heck crashes a lot and once you load a real data set it gets unusably slow Wait for the next version         Not ready for prime time Timbofoo
I just bought this a week ago and love it The weather feature is especially nice Highly recommend                     I love this DP818
Manually updating data plan has corrected missing airport info and seems to have also improved app performance up d the star rating to 3 stars App still unexpectedly quits on some searches Okay I was very excited about the guide coming out on iPad However just using it for 5 minutes and already flaws Not happy that information is out of date but that errata section is chalked full of changes For now don t toss the paper version             Revised review toddgrx
If you re familiar with the printed version of the Pilots Guide you know that they provide a very comprehensive product that provides a great briefing for pilots flying into larger and tower controlled airports as well as a solid all around guide for smaller airports Its one of the few that provides aerial photos of the larger fields which are helpful when locating an airport in an urban environment The iOS edition is easy to use and provides all the same data as the printed guide but allows you to look up airports more quickly than thumbing through paper as well as some other handy features like quick access to nearest airports and weather reports I m only taking 1 star off because some of the airports aren t yet in the electronic distribution and I couldn t search for some of the smaller uncontrolled airports Once these are up and running I think this is a 5 star app                 Great replacement for the paper edition M20 pilot & CFI
This application with purchase of data from pilots guide offers lots of information about airports and airspace Those familiar with the paper version of pilots guide will find all that information here in the new format After downloading I found not all the charts where available After contacting the editor to the guide I found out that this application just went live this weekend and all the charts are to be online with a day or two I look forward to re syncing and having the full book in short order Tailwinds and happy flying                     Pilots Guide to California Airports airlndc
As already mentioned much airport data is missing No response yet to emails sent to Optima app support     Great concept poor execution CFI1000
