The app is worthless It constantly forgets what network it is on then loses it s connection even when connected to its own out of the box network It d be better if it was just a control box with a button that cycles through a bunch of presets Forget about customizing anything or setting it to music It will just tell you that all your music is DRM protected and prompt you to upgrade to the iTunes plus version I can t believe that anybody who had a hand in developing this would be proud of it It is a totally substandard work product and lacks any meaningful value Merry Christmas we took your money I expect more when shelling out 150 tripdog
UPDATE 12 6 2017 Another year has gone by and there has still been no major software update What gives Are you planning on doing that anytime soon or are we just stuck with a system that will not continue to be updated I just don t understand why you guys aren t listening to your customers UPDATE 12 14 2016 This is our third year using these lights and while we re pleased with the lights themselves we re really disappointed with the lack of software updates They have so much potential but it feels like no one at Phillips is paying attention to the customers who spent so much on what we thought was a great concept Read through these reviews Phillips Your customers have great ideas that could make these lights as amazing as we were hoping they d be The ap and lights are great however they are not without flaws The biggest being the lack of ability to customize the color function of the lights when you chose to use the music function I would like to use the purple and orange chasing function for Halloween with some music from The Nightmare Before Christmas but the ap won t allow me to do so If this were corrected this would be a five star system for sure Good but could be better AmieL3

Just a few tweaks to the app and this product would get five stars The main one is that it should have a timer and allow you to choose time to turn lights on and time to turn them off If the app had this it would be awesome Good product that has potential to be great Winski

If you try to use the music feature which allows for the lights to light up to the music of your choice and you have Apple Music none of the music works because you need iTunes Plus for it which is very complicated to work Would not recommend if you are using lights based on this Music doesn t work with Apple Music heyy.anna

Well I will say I did love them for a day I didn t have any brightness issues or major issues with the strands except for one light I did call the company and they are sending a replacement So I guess service was good First point This is not Phillips we are talking to it s seasonal selections They must have a license with Phillips but the large company Phillips has not much to do with these lights except their name on the box Reason for return They worked pretty good Basic app functions was entertaining Their are some big holes in the app that could improve and you can read the other reviews to easily find the issue But the reason I have to return them is it is still a manual process What does that mean Well there is no built in timer so I need to go to the app everyday to turn them on ugh no Two if you have a timer on the outlet and you use that to turn the lights on and off that s fine but the controller box resets and you will still need to go to the app and turn lights back to your desired scene ugh no If I pay extra for simplicity but they still make it manual then I could have just bought 15 lights and used my own timer and been less intrusive Issues Timer Box resets Function limitation Custom programming is elementary Doesn t support Apple Music Need ASAP Timer or way to use own timer and keep settings Would be cool and worth the 100 spent IFTTT integration But don t expect anything updated when I called and talked to them the lady on the phone was rather annoyed and didn t think to be an issue She was like you can go to the app and make changes Well I told her people that buy process utilization items don t want to go to your app everyday So I guess I have to buy 15 to be happy Omg I have to return them jayserna

3rd season having these They work well better than any of the other software driven lighting I ve seen short of the crazy music synced YouTube videos out there I would like it to have schedule function for it to turn on and off at programmed times and more customizable light effects than the three jumping gradual fade Keep adding programmed functions for other holidays I have 2 control boxes the strings don t always stay in sync with the effect which is more annoying than anything Customer service is awesome I had two strings out of the 7 have a few bulbs go bad in one way or another I called customer service and they shipped me out replacements with no questions asked Needs updates Otherwise it s solid Fordo300
Overall these are some really cool lights However they are not as bright as others and when setting up your own custom colors the effects are limited to only three options If they added the other affects to the custom colors these would be a four star in my opinion If they added brighter LED s along with more custom effects this will be a five star all the way Cool but l_RHYNO_l
I would recommend these to everyone if the app had more customization options There is one preset function in particular where a single white light travels through the multi colored strand I would love to make one red light travel through a green light strand BUT I CAN T I should be able to change the colors of the preset functions Or at the very least there should be more than three functions to choose from to customize All you get to choose from is Gradual Jumping and Fade Which all seem about the same Give me more options and I will give 5 stars Until then 2 is all I think these are worth UPDATE 10 05 16 I m contemplating putting these up for Halloween that s why I m thinking about this review I wrote last year and felt it was my duty to provide an update So I had two sets where a bulb went out mid season last Christmas I wasn t going on the roof in mid December to mess with it and just lived with it I did however reach out to the company and tell them that two different sets each had one bulb out They sent me two brand new sets within a couple of days along with prepaid postage to send the broken sets back so they could do an autopsy on the bad bulbs to be able to improve the product Very good customer service so on that merit alone I am raising my review one more star to 3 of 5 I m waiting for a new version of the app to pop soon and if it adds more customization options and a timer I will instantly change this review to 5 stars Fingers crossed 12 21 16 One more update After waiting and waiting for an update to this app which has never come I m changing my review to one star and recommending nobody buy these I still have issues with bulbs going out which means you need to replace the whole strand and if I m not home these lights won t come on Where is the timer Where is the added functionality There most definitely should have been an update to this app and apparently Seasonal Specialties has decided that there was not enough money in the budget or perhaps this whole system will not be going forward in 2017 so they won t invest any further and are cutting their losses Please don t waste your money on something that is going to be obsolete like I did Very very dissatisfied customer App needs more customization options KenXMASman
The choices for light patterns and such at pretty decent but I m having considerable problems with the music part When I chose songs from my iTunes library it says that it can t be played due to DRM requirements and that the song needs to be upgraded through iTunes Plus I have iTunes Plus and the songs came from there Please fix this Need work SixCrazyPants

Cool light set and works ok but custom setting not to good on colors and transitions But if your not getting the hint there is no on off timer and set doesn t seem to work well with outlet timer Wont come back until this is fixed No timer No timer????????
We wanted to dream the fancy Christmas lights that could be set to music I was so encouraged to see a product that promise to do that Even though it did cost me A small fortune So I m going to cover a few of the problems and I m hoping the good people at Phillips will read and try to fix First I spent all that time climbing on my roof and almost killing myself to find out on the second day of having the lights on that there are two bad bulbs that just glow one color These are brand new lights How does that happen I mean I purchased these on sale in January so there 11 months old but brand new so I m I supposed to climb back up there take those down go to the store and try to get a return Second here in the year 2016 you would think an app would be up to date and easy to use That is not the case It is not that user friendly Third in referencing the above comment I just spent 2 1 2 hours of my precious time on the phone with an apple care representative Why you ask Because the add music option on the aforementioned app kept telling me that the music was DRM protected and I couldn t access it So two hours later we discover finally that the Phillips Illuminate app will only recognize music you have downloaded to your phone THATS SOMETHING YOU COULD HAVE MENTIONED PHILLIPS Or better yet building now that uses the music that most of the free world uses Fourth I ve got a three dollar timer that will turn on basic Christmas lights but I can t figure out how to make this 600 light set turn on and off on its own Even though it s got a Wi Fi set up So fifth which means in conclusion I m not taking it down because it was too much trouble to put up I m dreaming that Phillips will magically download firmware which will solve all my problems I think that s going to have to be a Christmas miracle I m expecting Krampus at this point Please save Christmas Phillips Don t give me Krampus So promising BUT SO MANY BUGS melliojoseph

As others have said this app is lacking It needs to allow users the ability to specify color sequences and luminosity The whites are wait too bright The functions are lacking in features If only one fix was available I would ask for a function to offers the tradition color scheme red green yellow orange running through the string This seems to be a obvious add Work but just needs updating Avid reader 123
I do have to say that I absolutely love the lights However if you had told me that the 7 strands that I paid 50 each for Does not have a setting to automatically turn the lights on and then back off Had I known this ahead of time I would have gone with something else Come on Phillips You aren t a low grade never before heard from Chinese start up Three stars is as high as I can at this point Again the lights are fantastic I absolutely love them But this could be an easy software fix Make it happen please No built in timer Crimsonghost99
These lights are very cool This is my third year with them But I agree a software upgrade is long overdue This system is more expensive to operate and update every year so there should be more flexibility with the software One suggestion add a feature to allow the user to select the specific functions they would like to cycle through instead of having to go thru all 17 I have the unit connected to a timing system that shuts it on and off But the unit does not seem to hold all of the settings speed brightness after it turns off and in again Thanks for considering Great lights but where s the software upgrade sitcom62
This app for Christmas tree lights can make your lights change colors flash twinkle at different rates and even flash to music Good BUT NO LIGHT TIMER It would be awesome to have a timer that would automatically turn lights on and off at certain times Do I have to go out and buy a separate timer I ll change my review once this is added I m going to give the tree a similar review on Target site as well I was expecting an automatic timer for the tree lights Vinbobarino

From the beginning some lights only did some colors After a week or so and heavy rain now most of the lights don t work They could not have gotten wet as the box is under my porch roof Save your money Junk Don't work fully

We bought some of these lights on clearance to put on my son s fort that we could leave up during the year and turn on for various holidays with different colors and patterns Among our purchases we had a dead string and the company responded to my email within a day that they are shipping me a new one free of charge I had an issue with the controller software and they were quick to reply This is a newer product but it still appears to be actively supported and developed Much easier than building LED pixel systems yourself and I think it s only going to get better I really hope to see the ability to customize colors in blink patterns as well as a timer function for now I have mine on a power timer and that works fine resuming the last program on power up Quite good Seeekay
had the c9 lights up around our Gazebo during the holidays Bought a starter and a additional set at Target They lasted a whole day before they quit Couldnt get them going till it warmed up a bit Our temps were not that cold either only in the 40s high dollars for junk Cant return either as they were installed Will not get these again and they will be going in the trash Junk Johnguz76
Right now if you go to the Color screen you can adjust the brightness but if you go into the Function screen you can only adjust the speed It would be AWESOME if you would add the ability to adjust the brightness is on the Function screen as well Please consider adding this option Thank you for a great product Thank you Brightness on Function screen SDDan

This app is great but I was greatly disappointed and surprised that there is no feature to set a timer on the lights and have them turn off and on automatically when scheduled I would think this wouldnt be very hard to implement Missing essential feature

I bought the starter kit and 3 add on strings to test out Of all the color changing lights on the market that are designed to be plug and play this has the most features and capability but there are many things Id like to do but the programming does not allow for it The setup is pretty straight forward and works well with the app The programming can be done directly through the lights or over your home wifi A HUGE advantage of this product over some others out there is that you can plug these lights end to end and have the whole series of strings in perfect sync within the programming As far as quality goes out of the four light strings I bought I have two defective bulbs on two different strings For those not familiar these are RGB lights which means each bulb has a red blue and green LED which can be combined in different proportions to make over 16 million possible colors on each light One downside to this technology is that the RGB lights must be wired into the string and you cannot replace the bulbs like on the old fashioned lights For those who know how to solder you could buy an extra light string for repairs and cut out a defective light and solder in a replacement as needed There are 20 programmed functions with 17 of them Christmas themed 2 Halloween themed and 1 for 4th of July There is also a cycle function that will loop through all 17 Christmas functions However what is really lacking is the ability to pick your favorite functions and cycle between them I like the ability to cycle through functions as it adds a nice variety The problem is many of them are quite lame and who wants to put that up on your house Most of the functions themselves are very basic but a few of them take better advantage of the ability to have colors chase up and down the string You can also adjust the speed of the chasing which is a nice touch The customize features are very basic and really need to be improved This was my biggest disappointment in these lights Basically all you can have the string do is cycle between colors of your choosing You can pick any color imaginable on the color wheel and then tell it what order you want them in You can tell it to jump between colors or fade into the next color and you can adjust the speed that it does this at The real limitation here is that you cannot create your own functions or have your colors perform any of the built in chasing effects or twinkling effects If Philips could update the app to address the shortcomings then this would be by far the best plug and play RGB light product available Has potential but still has its problems

These lights are great purchased both icicles and regular lights Disappointed in the app however when playing music through app all starter sets must be synched sort of defeating my purpose for multiple starter sets Hope next update includes more customization and flexibility when playing music Looking forward to update
