MyNature Trees of North America is now available for the iPhone and iPod touch. We are pleased to offer one of the first comprehensive field guides to Tree identification available with smart-phone technology. You will ...
With only 190 species this is not comprehensive        Trees
If an app crashes I never give more than 2 stars and this app crashes a lot as previous reviewers have stated It would also be really helpful if the leaf pictures could be quickly scanned instead of having to go through the question and answer sequence to get to the real pictures        Crashes
This guide is filled with lots of information drawings and photos to help you identify trees leafs and cones The UI is a little clumsy and could use some minor improvements but theyre worth overlooking because the actual content is so useful              Good content
I grew up with a forester father learning how to identify trees Ive been looking for an app to recommend to friends to help them identify trees and this is the best Ive found Pros lots of the trees native to the area good pictures of leaves fruit and bark good searches for identifying an unknown tree Cons Sorting capabily when browsing needs to be improved you can only view via the genus Would be nice to be able to specify how you want to browse by genus by common name by searching etc Also a minor note some photos of leaves get squashed unless you look at them full screen therefore you might think an eye shaped leaf is more rounded than it really is for an example look at the sweet birch leaf              Best tree identification app out there
There are widely differing reviews for this app and for good reason On the one hand it has reasonably useful keys and many fine photos Between the two most users should be able to identify the trees that are covered by this guide On the other hand it has serious limitations that cannot be easily overlooked First there is no search feature which is hard to fathom This might make attempting to go straight to a specific species of tree a timeconsuming process especially if you do not know the latin genus name Secondly there are no pictures of flowers another shortcoming that is hard to understand Magnolias catalpas flowering dogwood horse chestnut locusts and many other trees could be readily identified by their flowers One last shortcoming I will mention is that there is no alphabetized list of the trees covered in this app which also makes it difficult to go straight to a specific species of tree In some ways 3 stars is a generous rating for this app but it still has its uses Do not be fooled however by the reviews that give it 4 or 5 stars especially if you are at all knowledgeable about trees This app has too few features to deserve such a high rating What you will get with this app are many fine photos of leaves bark and fruit concise text describing each tree range maps and a fairly useful key to identify common species           Limited but useful
This app Is by far the best tree identification app available today Whether you are a casual tree enthusiast or a hardcore tree lover this app is very helpful in identifying a variety of trees and the wide array of species and pictures in this app make it very easy to use This app doesnt need to be connected to a network which makes it very useful in remote locations I use this app daily as a residential tree Id tool in San Diego and it works great The only downfall is that this app does crash sometimes A few suggestions that would make this app even better is a history or favorites option All in all best tree id app available                 Hands down the best tree id app
However it does have a crashing issue related to looking at more than one species of tree For example I looked at three species of Ash but crashed when the second was selected to look at When there is a bug fix this review will go to a five Dropping this to a one until they fix the crashing I am highly disappointed with backwards navigation and crashes     It seems comprehensive
Good ap for identification of trees I like it Illustrations are good and very helpful              Great for identification
Have a degree in biologybotany and if I didnt already have a basic knowledge of alot of trees this app would be practically useless Suspect many of the reviews fake     Junk
Sad app Poor search function birchlike maple oak Latin names are interesting but not helpful as search category Poor interface Far right Headings are cut off so you cant select them Why have two leaf headers and no bark Bark is a key identifier Some illustrations dont match the photos Many photos are not sized correctly for the app and are distorted Its fast but it doesnt take you anywhere Would wait until a well thought out app is developed     disappointing want my 7 back
An easy to use and informative app for identifying trees This would be great for any science classroom using ipod touches or ipads                 Great App
I have tried using a few guide books to identify trees but found them to be too overloaded with detail And worst of all I never had them with me when I wanted them and the necessary characteristics needed for identifying were forgotten before I got home This is just what I needed for everyday walks when you just wonder what kind of tree is that I especially like the photo of the leaf to compare with the line drawing that makes all the difference to me for a positive identification Im very happy to have this on my iPhone where it is always handy Next I hope you come out with a wildflower and mushroom identifier The nature journal is also I neat idea and the range finder Im sure I will get a lot of use out of this app and I never expected the app to do all the work for me like some of the posters herewhere is the learning process if you expect to take a picture of a leaf and have the app spit out the answer                 Useful and handy
I work as a naturalist in the Pacific Northwest and this is a great app to show the public For many people the thought of carrying around books while exploring the natural world is not something that are willing to do so it is awesome that there are apps out there that they can use to help identify and better understand their environment I highly suggest this app to everyone One improvement I would like to see with the update is a search option I would like to be able to be able to type Pine or Madrone and have all of the results pop out to explore           Great App Needs a Search Option though
I have several Tree apps and most of them were a disappointment because of the terribly lowresolution pictures Im happy to say that this is not a problem with the MyNature Tree Guide The pictures here are fantastic Not just because they are colorful and clear and they are that but because the myriad of pictures for each tree is a huge help when trying to actually ID whatever tree youre looking at It seems that 99 of the outdoor apps miss this and its so vital Anything less than quality pics is useless If its a blurry pic of tree fruit or bark how can you see the subtleties that youre looking for In addition to the great pics the app arranges other information such as description glossary a journal and a range map pretty well Youll find most of what you need there My only suggestion is that the developer take a look at adding some more search options Id like to see a search by Family by Tree Shape or by Common Name A few different search groups could help users zero in on a tree based on more characteristics providing the best chance to find a match as well as help you learn Currently the search is limited to Trees with Leaves and Trees With Needles Its good enough to get you around but the more efficient the better Overall though its a very solid resource and perfect for learning or field work I need more time with it to really see all it can do but am extremely impressed with this app right out of the gate Easily worth the One other thing check out the Animal Tracks app by MyNature also Thats the first one I bought from them and its fantastic Ive used that one a lot in the field and it rocks                 Great App With Quality Pictures
I had great hopes for this app but it has proved to be disappointing The idea behind it is great but the implementation needs work Here are two problems that have frustrated me 1 The button bar that lets you choose from view options for a particular tree species illustration leaf fall leaf bark etc only shows a few of the buttons at one time and needs to be scrubbed to show the hidden ones The scrubbing is very unreliable on my iPod Touch running iOS 4 I often have to scrub five or six times to get to a hidden button 2 The app isnt searchable If you have a tree in mind say white ash you cant type the name into a search field You have to scroll through the whole list of species What makes this worse is the list is ordered by Latin genus name If you dont know the genus of the tree you are looking for you may be scrolling back and forth for quite awhile I sincerely hope version 11 comes out soon and addresses these issues           Useful but needs work
Well designed application that makes it very easy to pinpoint just exactly what kind of tree youre looking at Only criticism is that it could use a home or return to start button otherwise love it                 Amazing application
It is a bit limited but fine for four bucks it does cover the whole country some limitation should be expected I have similar print guides that cost about the same and this is more convenient My only real complaint is there are no pictures of flowers In some trees this is their biggest identity feature think dogwood among others Other than that its a fine guide If nothing else itll get you in the ballpark              An adequate tree guide
UI is horrible Organization and structure is poor Would not work as standalone tree ID app for all the reasons explained by others Limited species list Supplement with something else or pass I waited for price drop to check it out but still not worth it     Mediocre at best
Were always looking for tree books with real photos of barkleavesneedlescones and fruit and all we can find is illustrations this APP has it all and the photos are in clear close up color The descriptions are easy to understand and its fun to mess with Every one Ive shown has been very impressed and so am I If you travel camp or hike you should have this APP                 Great APP
I like this app Its helpful in learning about trees in my area Its simple to use and easy to understand Id still like to see a search function and maybe a favorites option The update did fix the problem              Good app
I think buying this app is better than buying a tree identification book For just the price of the app I now have a resource that will update itself with new information so now there is no need to go out and buy a newer edition of a book in a year or so                 Better than a tree identification book
The app works great until you need to back up once you have a small selection of possible trees I would love to buy a bulk subscription for my classes but not until this major bug is fixed Right now I have wasted 7 dollars        A lot of potential but crashes too often
I love this ap because it does not require a data connection which makes it great for iTouch or when there is no signal My kids love it as well very intuitive and makes identificaiton fun for them The look is clean and accurate I was a Natural Resources major I look forward to more aps for this developer Super ap and worth every penny                 Great for iTouch
Easy to use and super informative                 Top notch
I am disappointed in this app As with other reviews I think it is seriously lacking in several areas especially not having a search box I dont feel the price of this app is justified to what you receive        I wanted to like this app but
What a joke The most uneducated arborist in the form of an app DO NOT BUY     Terrible App
I have three or four books I carry in my SUV for identifying trees and as I just stumbled across this app It takes a fraction of the time to identify with this software Great find Well worth the price tag if you enjoy tree hunting etc Im not a tree hugger but love the outdoors Excellent                 Whoa finally a great app for trees
My biggest complaint is that theres no search by common name I know its a maple I want to know which one Search on maple and page through the results Ive also found or NOT found most of the odd to me trees in the forest nearby Looking for more features mostly and more entries        Limited Difficult
total junk it is leaf identification not tree identification     want my money back
This is a great app for family outings Easy reference to help teach the kids about nature Nice addition to the Tracks app Great job                 Fun Learning tool
Hiking exploring the outdoors is one of the healthiest family activities MyNature Tree Guide makes it easy to identify trees in different ways The app is thorough very detailed and well put together with a ton of facts and relevant diagrams including a handy ruler to help you make notes on your tree findings From the Descriptions of Trees with Leaves to Trees with needles describing various barks and morphology you are going to come away from this app full of wonder and appreciation of nature Runs smoothly and is loaded with data A musthave nature app                 Cant think of a better way to spend family time
The best part of this app is the fact that it is more than a field guide book in digital form Like the animal track app that preceded this MyNature Tree Guide leads you to the answer through a series of easy questions And it not only makes it very quick and easy to identify a tree but it also teaches you about plant identification in the process I really appreciated that in addition to the logical user interface it also provides you with a variety of views photos of the needle cone and a full view of the tree and an illustration Its on the first screen of my iPhone                 First Screen Worthy
Dis app is tight My an da fam luv it dis taught me so much about dem trees Thank you                 3
Another great app that I use on the job and off Love the search by question option to quickly find the tree Im looking at Cant wait for more trees to added Being an outdoorsy kinda of person this will be one of the few apps I will use often Now can ya make one for dragonflies                 Rangergirl141
This app is amazing I love that I can use this app to quickly identify a tree while out on walks full of clear details and very easy to use make this app a real pleasure to work with                 Awesome App
In short this app is VERY comprehensive and the user interface is perfect for the field ad well as at home By providing the user with multiple approaches to identifying a species the Tree Guide helps to train the budding naturalist to understand the anatomy and context of species Excellent combination of detailed illustrations and photographs to highlight minute details and nuanced variations from similar species The Tree Guide equips its user with lots of data and ensures that its discoverable with a minimum number if taps and swipes Terrific app                 North Americas Trees at the Swipe of a Thumb
This is a great app with beautiful pictures and pretty good walkthrough My only concern is that when you go through the step by step process of identifying trees and a list of possible matches is displayed if you try to look at more than one tree in the list the app crashes This happens every single time But hopefully the company will work that out because really nice app              Great App but does sometimes crash
I took my 5 year old out and she used this app to identify the trees we saw It is easy to use and thorough Highly recommended                 Great for kids too
I think this is a great app for spending time alone or with the family learning about the woods I think the UI can use some work and would like to see camera integration or location based data but all in all the info included overrides these concerns Cant wait to use this in my early fall hunts and hikes                 Great Guide for the Weekend Warrier
I am very excited to truely test this app out at my job Its has been very helpful thus far D                 very informative
This is a wonderful app full of information and photos thank you Jeff you have been very helpful              trees of all kinds
I was hoping for better since it had an average rating of 4 stars No way Im suspicious of the reviewers The problems are glaring Ive paid 499 for star gazing apps with tons more functionality This can only be summed up as 3rd grade quality Im convinced a child wrote this If you have no value for money and all you want is to identify your very basic types of trees and go back and forth and in and out of pictures this is for you Problems 1 data base is miniscule 2 navigation is clumsy In and out back and forthrepeat lather rinse 3 no search area 4 photos are lacking Seems to use same photos for similar trees 5 very elementary and basic To sum it up you DONT get what you pay for Now what do you do Spend 20 bucks trying to find one thats worthy Im not This the first and the last until I feel more confident in the ratings They are bogus I should have known better when the most critical rating was 4 stars Theyre essentially stealing Shame on you all     No way its worth 699 Functions like a school project
frequent crashes deep into the process of identification which is VERY frustrating you have to navigate the whole set of questions again and the illustrations offered are amateurishvery chickenscratchy still in the absence of better tree ID apps this is worth a spin but if youre looking for something dependable get a book           helpfulbut not quite there
Im in the forests every 8 weeks or so This has been a wonderful reference Easy to use My 10 year old plays with it when Im home and now hes learning about different trees on his own Gotta love it                 Great app
App does not work at all Never gives you the right name of tree Total waste of money     Horrible app
And easy to use                 Very informative
This app is great with an encyclopedia of tree information It will be very helpful with my nature photography I really wish I had this app when I lived in East TN and had about 30 distinct species on 2 acres                 For Trees This Is It
Ive been looking for a tree app for a while and this is just what I needed                 Just the thing
Ive updated my rating from 3 to 5 stars A really nice app that has a great look and works smoothly now Very handy for nature hikes to ID a tree that youre not familiar with However I really wish it had the ability to integrate the camera For 7 I think you should be able to photograph a leaf and have the app provide you with the tree or at least a list of possible trees Were not talking Google Goggles here image and pattern recognition shouldnt be that hard to do and for the price ought to be included That said its still a nice app for the beginner nature enthusiast that wants to know what that tree is called when out for a hike              New Update seems to have fixed the crashing problem
I took 5 kids into the woods yesterday ages 912 I challenged them to find and identify as many trees as they could during our hike When I told them they could use this app and brought it out they were psyched From hemlocks to beech to birch to maple and oaks they found everything they needed in this app It was easy to navigate and fun to use while on the trail Pictures and descriptions were dead on They made a game of trying to copy the picture content like pine cones and bark with the camera I let them use and they loved using the journal Some of the kids were still playing with it last night looking for other trees in the area that they didnt find yet reading the facts and taking the quizzes This is a great product and I would recommend it highly                 niskytracker
