Don t buy the set up for many reasons but mostly because it does not work I purchased this app three years ago and it worked great but subsequent Apple operating system upgrades have left this app useless IT DOES NOT WORK also on my third Mophie battery Two were replaced under warranty for different issues but now the one I have does not work and out of warranty by two months and they won t replace Bad product and customer service     Won t work DKeyman2211

Accuterra got bought out by NeoTrecks which got bought out by Mophie Each time the new company made customers purchase the app again These were expensive apps and I spent a lot of money on each iteration After my last my second purchase of the same app I was promised it was a one time fee for unlimited map downloads Then they got bought out again by Mophie and now I m supposed to pay a subscription They should grandfather in existing customers instead of screwing them over and backing out on the promise of the company they bought out The new app looks exactly the same as the old app No changes no improvements to justify the new subscription The only thing that has changed is that they are forcing existing customers to pay up again They re just out to make a buck and have no integrity as a company I ll be using Gaia from now on At least that company has had stability it s entire existence and is trustworthy Mophie is just trying to take your money before they sell again to the next unscrupulous company     Buy Gaia Instead Dan & Erika

I purchased the Juice Pack and with it came the option to use the outdoor app so I installed it only to find out that it only supports maps of the U S which is fine for those living in the U S I seemed to have overlooked that part prior to install but no worries I was just curious to see how the app worked on my bike rides I do use ENDOMONDO which is an excellent app BTW I m rating only on the availability of maps not the app itself for I never actually tracked anything with it         Only Maps of U S chatomorgan

Edit well all o the below I must retract The trails on the grid it worked for I was really starting to enjoy it I live in one of the best most famous hiking destinations in the world so it was a good testing ground After a hike in my back yard trail on tracking mode I pulled the stats and saved the hike All was well The next day I ventured into oak creek canyon where the cell coverage is really bad or none at all I ha saved the grid maps for the whole canyon and was looking forward to tracking with gps only I opened the mophie app and saw it still pinned me at home where I had shut it down previously I hit locate nothing happened I hit every other button trying to get it to do anything Nothing Eventually all I could get out of it was a errr message saying it couldn t verify my subscription because I did not have a wifi signal Well no t I thought that was the point I walked a hundred yards or so thinking maybe the gps signal wasn t even coming through the tree canopy Still nothing The app showed me still at home and the screen was frozen So I went over to apple maps that come standard on the phone Here I had just barely enough signal to find me and fill in terrain sat maps Mophie just frozen up all the while Today I am back in town the app still frozen in time The apple maps accessed through mophie work but the accutrac map is still frozen I have no other options at this point but to try and uninstall an reinstall I will hope that works but in any case I would be a very very unhappy camper if this happened while I was in the wilderness relying on the offline maps I have the iPhone 4 for what it s worth I hope they fix the app because it is a nice concept but obviously defective or bug ridden No stars find a reliable app if you are real outdoors enthusiast But I do still love the battery pack case will be seeking a refund on the app if the reinstall doesn t work perfectly which I have no expectation of it doing so at this point Original review below sorry for judging prematurely I wanted to suggest half the complaints about mophie in general and this app in particular are from tech impaired or low IQ reactionaries throwing a fit over what almost certainly amounts to user error or iPhone issues or Facebook issues or just plain whiners I ordered the outdoor mophie and found it was back ordered for a couple weeks Customer service gave me the option of getting the black version 2 500 Mha pack in its place They were prompt and super helpful even when I got a little belligerent and accused them of bait and switch they didn t I just did not read very well They sent me the access to the gps app which I installed in a couple minutes hardest part being getting my phone back out of the case to read the serial number man that is a tight fit really impressed with the case design I am underwhelmed with the app I love the case and love not ever having to plan around charging my battery I was always running dead before I also get lost really easily spatial impairment don t know why it s a rain man thing I guess This app will keep you from getting lost I think it does all it claims I feel I got my money s worth but also agree there is room to improve and think 30 bucks a year is a bit much I would try the other apps mentioned in these reviews i have only ever used maps for iPhone so this is better but probably not the best I highly recommend the case though Also the gps should definitely track while it is closed that seems obvious But it loads fine runs fine and so far has all my obscure local trails and fits the bill for a good basic gps app Not oh wow Just An app     It is an app Jballz*69

Edit read my previous review below that had 5 stars After the Hawaii trip the app completely froze on me I will attempt to re install but do not still have the code when I bought the mophie I ll see if customer service exists for this and see if they can help Would be a shame if a good app like this was rendered useless because of poor or no customer service Will report back I recently used this app to track a hike I went on in Hawaii GPS worked like a charm Even had markers for waterfalls that were clearly described once you clicked on the waterfall icon It didn t have an updated map for campgrounds on the island Not sure if that is the apps fault or whatever map I have downloaded Would be cool if it was a little more intuitive but seems like its getting there Lots of fun and I love the interface I purchased the mophie outdoor case and this app came free with the phone for one year Will consider purchasing for another year Hope the people who are having problems with this app get their issues resolved so they can have fun with it like I do     Avid Hiker Traveller Phootshoot

I recently took my iPhone 4S equipped with the Mophie Outdoor Edition battery pack and app on a weekend splitboarding adventure in bitter subzero conditions As expected the unit had trouble aquiring a GPS signal in some stormy weather and thick trees but when I did have GPS signal the app did a great job tracking and finding our current location The stats feature came in handy when it came time to review elevation profiles The real key and beauty to this app is in the downloadable offline topographic maps Without the topographic maps pre installed on your phone you are dependent on a cell tower data signal to show your area in fine detail Get a subscription and download the detailed quadrants before you head out It s great being able to use the iPhone as another navigation tool on my backcountry adventures and not have the need for a cell tower signal You can also use the app to import and export KML KMZ files allowing you to plan or review your tracks on Google Earth or other navigation software The only gripe I have is the stats feature does not allow for an elevation profile of imported preloaded tracks Only for tracks that were completed using the unit can statistics such as elevation profile be displayed All in all a great app I recommend it to those who like to get outdoors and want to trim down their gear by combining their phone GPS into one                     Very Cool Better Than Expected dangggdude

I have never written a review before but feel that the hiking community needs to beware of this APP and it s implications Therefore I have to report that this APP does not have anything which other apps provide on a free basis Not to mention that this APP actually has a yearly subscription fee of 29 The Mophie Outdoor Unit came with an activation code which supposedly offered the first year free However after one technical problem after another they charged me the 29 for this APP And then when it did not work satisfactorily the APP constantly said cannot verify your subscription information the mophie people said You will have to get a refund from Itunes But on itunes it s a Free app So there s nothing to refund Nothing but a big scam The so called subscription is through a third party whom nobody can get ahold of to obtain a refund Do yourself a favor stick to other actually FREE apps available for geocaching and hiking     This APP is a scam Adventurewriter

Please people stop with all of the I don t need my Garmin outdoor GPS anymore comments I have a whole bunch of iPhone outdoor apps that I love that work pretty well and that I use for planning my trips But when I m out in the backcountry and I m hiking for hours or days I do not rely on my iPhone for everything That s why a good Garmin outdoor GPS cost a few hundred dollars It s for those times that you really glad you bought it So it s great to praise this app which incidentally is not nearly as good as many other mapping apps like AllTrails Backpacker Gaia or the National Geographic trails app even it s halfway decent and is nice looking They just need to make it more readable to me My rant is over Thank you         No it s not a Garmin EvenStephen2000

I received the Plus battery case for the iPhone 4 that comes with a map subscription for a year The case is great as it doubles the battery life of my iPhone I have tracked walks and bike rides with the software Pros If you ve tracked a route and taken photos using the app then you can play it back and show a friend your route and pictures and where they were The maps are downloadable so if there s no cellphone signal or WiFi you can read them If you can get a signal then you can use online maps like Google which tend to be more current Cons The app does not track in the background This is very annoying I can run Strava and Cyclemeter when they are shut in the background I highly recommend that an option be set to run this app when it is closed I have had two problems the first I was 3 4 of the way to my destination and app mysteriously stopped tracking I went under a large oak tree and probably lost GPS but it should have come back and been interpolated It then started to track on the return trip when I opened the app Today I did a ride and the tracking looked like a diamond because it totally missed the first part as I closed the app when I started This is not good enough I know the app likes to lock the screen but I like to do Food Spotting Play Scrabble and other things when I am on a ride and thereby close the app so it should keep on tracking There are other features that need polishing too for example you need to be able to cancel out of an upload and know how much of a file has been uploaded better user feedback is required I tried to upload to Facebook and after about 15 minutes it was still showing that it was sending The upload needs to be more robust As other readers have noted the transition between maps could be smoother I could go on with other suggestions for improving the user experience bottom line the battery case is great the tracking works if you are careful to leave the app running there s masses of room for improvement to be competitive with Strava and Cyclemeter to mention two stronger apps for bikers that can also track hikers                 Great idea app needs polishing Angela Hey
