LIFE Digital Photo Guide

As a photography teacher who is transitioning classes from silverbased to digital this book is invaluable It is interesting informative and beautifully illustrated The videos provide excellent support material and the tips are tremendously practical This book offers both technical and aesthetic information including aperture shutter speed ASA lens choices composition color texture etc I am thrilled with this purchase and appreciate the reasonable price Our students will become far better photographers as a result of this app Thank you                 Simply Outstanding

I have only started this book but the writing is clear and encouraging It makes me rethink the photos I have taken and think about taking many more The problem is the reading tools It is easy to find your way around the book but there is no way to make bookmarks or increase font size There is no way to highlight information you want to go back and look at again I would not have bought this app if Id known I couldnt treat it as a book It would be better to download a similar book for my kindle app           Setup

Only in a couple chapters so far but its filled with beautiful images helpful information videos and audio Its fully interactive and has expert tips for everyone no matter skill level Just got through reading Hot Shoe Dairies and The Moment It Clicks by the same author Joe McNally Great stuff and this one is equally good UPDATE Many of the images are saved as 256 color gifs Boo That means youll see lots of dots and aliasing in every single photo What designer saves photographic images in a 256 color format Please fix this oversight This is Design 101 people           Worth it but they messed up the images

I have just started to read this book in my iPad and I have found a ton of useful information in it particularly everything that has to do with light categories And also some things about the controls in my camera too like EV which I seem to overlook when Im busy taking pictures The only technical formatting glitch I have discovered so far is in the section titled Components of Light right above where it says Tap on photo to read more about each category I normally read all books and magazines in portrait format so when I view this particular page part of the third paragraph is cut off I accidentally swiveled the iPad to view in landscape format and only then I was able to read the entire paragraph Thank you Joe McNally and LIFE              Excellent Photography Guide

This is a great resource McNallys not only an experienced pro photographer but a graceful writer who packs a ton of useful information into a lucid and readable book My only beef and its a substantial one is that you cant bookmarkannotatehighlight the text Thats a real shortcoming in a book like this and its a shame              Great information but no annotating

This is certainly an invaluable tool to any budding photographer I highly suggest downloading this app however I noticed that the app itself is not optimized for the higher resolution of the newer iPads and seeing as this is a photography app McNallys photos should be crystal clear and not pixelated Hopefully Life updates this app soon              An excellent guide to digital photography only needs one improvement

This is by far the best how to on digital photography Ive learned more from this than any other This is how iPad magazines should be done well worth the money Ive read twice already and keep going back to it Its made me shoot in RAW change my color to Adobe when to use higher ISO instead of flash Better composed pictures I would buy this for twice the money it is that good Clarencd                 Best App Ever

Ill start by admitting that Im a huge fan on McNally Seems like a great guy and hes a great teacher of things that are difficult to teach This book is a fine example of that Life has put together and wonderful thing on the iPad The interaction is great and the movie clips are wonderful I buy crap all the time for way more than ten bucks Just had a crappy dinner for 50 last night actually Anyway if you love photography then get the book                 Well worth the money

I purchased this for my ipad and its terrific Full of fastpaced examples of lighting and setups Scott Kelby speaks clearly and keeps the interest high The videos are divided into chapters full of more info than I could take in with one viewing We need more of these Joe McNallys Life videos are superb too                 Great app

Of course only LIFE BOOKS can do an Apple iPadApp the right way I only wish for one item to be added to the features and that would be the ability to enlarge the text or to zoom IT                 Just a word EXCELLENT

How is it possible not to have Retina support after more than a year since iPad 3 arrived I havent seen another app that has not been updated in many many months Especially for a photography app this is a huge dissapointment     No Retina support after more than a year

Ive been shooting a very long time Mostly Am and some years pro and there is a LOT of information for every single level The technology of the iPad App allows this to happen but Joe has a very unique way about him As in most careers if you have a passion for something you will indeed be sucessful at it at some degree Joe has shown this over and over and now actually the last several years with teaching He can draw your attention in and really plant that seed Ive always been in the habit of using A or Aperture Priority with my SLRs but after just beginning this bookApp I can see where full manual will be giving me yet another tool allowing me to communicate my vision or story to the next level Frankly while I can always learn more there are not many professional photographers that can really get though to me and give me the passion to learn more Joe does this with ease Very very unique indeed Well worth the 999 in fact its a hellva good deal                 A Excellent Reference and Read for even Pros

The quality of this app is quite exceptional which is perhaps to be expected from this team As one might expect from the 499 MB file size this is no lightweight guide but a comprehensive manual leveraging the superb qualities of the iPad as a display platform In addition to superb illustrative photos the app abounds with popup tips select narrations from Joe and video clips to further illustrate key points All the major learning styles are covered by this app Even for a pro it doesnt hurt to have a reference such as this close at hand for those situations when youre out of your comfort zone and you have to produce an image If youve read any of Joes books his blog or attended a workshop or seminar youll be familiar with his selfdepreciating writing style Joe doesnt live in a perfect world and not all of his shots work out as he planned He freely admits to his failures and to his lucky successes but he goes beyond that to describe how you go about getting your camera in the right place to start with how you think through the image you want to capture and how you play with all the elements to bring your images to life At University my professors were always encouraging me to seek the second right answer to look beyond the obvious In this app Joe does the same Dont be content with that first image but keep working the scene to extract more of the essence from it Given his vast experience there are none better to guide you to great photographs and this app is a beautiful and engaging companion that can be close at hand as a reference or simply entertaining reading material in its own right And all this wealth of knowledge for under 1000 thats going to be real hard to beat                 If you only buy one photography guide buy this one

This is a great intro to DSLR photography I know very little about the subject but the authors approach is perfect Very conversational style encouraging and not at all condescending Builds an understanding of the camera settings in the context of taking great photographs Highly recommended                 Great Intro to DSLR
