knitCompanion will turn your library of PDF patterns into highly interactive knitting instructions Its knitter inspired design will enable you to interact with your patterns like never before. For the first time, you will be ...
The app has a lot of functionality but is not clear for firsttime user First finding the explanation of the addins is buried in the large document one includes all addins The price is not revealed until you add the first project it is an annual subscription Why it is not on the developer website is a mystery Ive seen people using the app so I am aware of its capabilities but it needs more work for assisting the first time user        Not intuitive
Knit Companion is a complex powerful tool Like anything else there is a learning curve to get the most from the app Luckily there are great resources available to help There are numerous tutorials on the KC website The developers are active on the Knit Companion forum on Ravelry and questions are answered quickly Best of all there are tons of other users who are an invaluable resource You purchase price comes with developers who are always working hard to add useful features to improve the app If you take the time to learn the ins and outs youll soon find you dont know how you ever knitted without it                 Must have app for knitting
I am very satisfied with Knit Companion Im a legacy subscriber who has purchased the new Magic Marker feature I love the ease of setup for charts now Being able to mark like stitches with just a couple of clicks is fantastic I enjoy knitting charted patterns and having a tool like Knit Companion makes it so much easier Yes using the program does require a learning curve but I took my time and learned new skills as needed I understand some legacy subscribers are quite upset but I am not one of them                 Love the Magic Markers feature
And terrific customer support I love this Makes it so easy to work with charts see right away right sidewrong side row where you are at any given place It is wonderful I had a problem getting started using itmy own computer illiteracy and I got immediate responses to my email questions and courteous knowledgeable and assistance I could not be happier with my purchase                 terrific application
Must understand that the price of this app is just for the basic part any upgrades or additional help will COST you I will NEVER pay this much for an app again and this is the reason why     Very disappointed
I was assured when I purchased Knit Companion when it first came out that I would receive free updates I see that now we must subscribe to receive the new updates A little disappointed Not impressed     Legacy Subscriber
Sure it can take some time to set up a pattern but it takes far less time than printing out a hard copy and highlighting all the important bits Not to mention that the stitch dictionary and charts are usually in different places KC means i can see my highlighted chart AND exactly where I am on it as well as the stitch guide and keep track of my rows and repeats all on the same page LOVE that Once I bought it the first semi complex pattern I used it for were the conina socksfor me that was an advanced pattern I knit them twoatatime KC made them easy It took me about 1520 minutes to set up my charts counters and highlights and I was good to go KC means I dont have to waste paper printingand then losinga hard copy It doesnt require an internet connection once the pattern is downloaded so I can knit wherever I am Ive been using this app for six months and highly recommend it It totally simplifies charts and made my knitting even more enjoyable              Very pleased with this app
Used the trial and decided to go ahead and pay for the bundle so it would be more useful Saw no difference Help text within the app is useless and a web search for knitCompanion only leads to directions which when followed do nothing Feel I was mislead into thinking my 10 would get me more features when it didnt        Not happy
Its so far from being friendly that when I asked how to open a graph to write a pattern I was directed to help resources I can not understand how anyone managed to get good reviews on such a poorly constructed app     I HATE this app
Long time user long time fan Love that this app dev is keeping up with Apple Use kC for all of my knitting Would be lost without it Also love the new kCDesigns so much easier                 So glad iOS8 is supported
Paid way more for this app than it was worth a couple of years ago for extra features and because they stated I would get updates for life Shortly after that they updated the free version so it had many of the features I paid for Now they have switched to charging a subscription price for the updates and removing features from the lifetime version to try to force people to buy the updates The app can be useful but is difficult to use and not worth what theyll soak you for it     Bait Switch
I downloaded the free version and so far it is just what I was looking for I may at some point get the full version but for now it is doing what I needed Not that hard to use and there are videos out there that show exactly what you need to do Found this by searching for the best app on Ravelry Happy                 Just what I was Looking For
This is an AWESOME App It makes knitting sweaters lace designs and any complicated project a breeze It does take an effort to set the project up in KC but it is well worth the effort                 Must Have Knitting Tool
I love this app I struggled with JKnit Pro and was just never able to master it This app is intuitive and easy to navigate I can set up a new project in less than five minutes and get going quickly I really like starting with a pdf of my pattern and then organizing by part And I never loose my place I highly recommend this app for the knitter who wants to knit rather than wallowing in technology                 Straightforward and comprehensive
I said quite a while ago Ive paid more for a skein of sock yarn than I did for this app and I never knit without it any more Best tool I ever got Yes you do have to learn how to use it but the developers have made that process really easy with video tutorials inapp and online help and almost realtime answers to user questions on a Ravelry board The latest improvement is Magic Markers that make color coding and stitch counting a breeze I see complaints and frankly cant understand the beefs The features work well for me I took a little time to learn to use them The pricing structure is more than fair Ive benefited from free updates for years and finally was asked to pay a small amount to access major new functionalitythis app is really software that is supported and continually updated It is unreasonable to expect continued new features for free and anybody who says this app doesnt work right just hasnt learned how to use it This is cutting edge highly functional stuff and you dont have to be a genius to use it but you might have to actually read some instructions or watch a video to get it clear You can use as much or as little as you like I genuinely dont get the naysayers on this one                 Amazing tool keeps getting better
This app keeps getting better and better With the new magic markers it is easier funner and a brilliant idea I am a legacy subscriber as I have had KC from the beginning I have no problem with the additional subscription price for new innovative useful helpful additions The developers are so responsive to any questions They are always working on future updates and try to I corporate our suggestions as possible This is an app made by knitters for knitters I cant imagine knitting without KC ever I have it on both my iPad and iPhone In fact I bought an iPad originally just for this app It is so much more than just an app It is like a whole computer program that does so much Well worth the cost Yea KC                 Best app ever
Extremely disappointed I spent the money for this app a longtime ago Spent more time setting up the patterns than actually knitting them Subscribed for 1 yr for the magic marker tool Guess Ill try it Saved all my patterns to my Dropbox that I downloaded to KC KC you are notice for 1 yr until my subscription runs out Ill probably go back to printing my patterns Less setup time more knitting Yay     Youre joking right
For the life of me I cant see why this app gets good reviews Youll spend more time setting up your pattern than you will knitting Learn to use the annotation features in a decent PDF viewer like GoodReader and you will save yourself time and money     Waste Of Time
About two years ago I bought an iPad just so I could get this app I havent been disappointed once This is a well thought out app and the latest update makes it even better The app is user friendly and the customer service is excellent I urge anyone that knitscrochets to at least try it out 5 BIG stars from this daily user                 Great App
Ive read so many glowing reviews of this app both here and on Ravelry but I must be missing something because I cant stand it I used the Help feature to figure out how to open a PDF and then went to my browser and opened the pattern in the app One problemthe Help wouldnt close I pressed Done a million times and it did nothing I could get the other icons on the right to send the Help page somewhere else or save that page as a bookmark but no matter what I tried it wouldnt close and let me go back to the Home page or to my PDF So I deleted the app reinstalled it and finally opened my pattern Then I was greeted with a clunky interface I didnt dare try to open Help again so I explored a bit My intention was to make a notation of where I was in the pattern so I could set my work aside for a couple of days I finally found where that was but when I tried to type in the text box it wouldnt allow me to do so This was my 3rd test of this app thinking newer versions would be better Nope Ill stick with opening a PDF in iBooks making a note in Notes and keeping track of my projects on Ravelry This app has been touted to do so many amazing things but if I cant get it to do the basics then Im not going to waste my time     What Am I Missing
Well Im not sure why Im surprised but theyve cut out Legacy Subscribers on this new function You have to switch to a subscription in order to add it to your KC Without improvements the app is clunky and difficult to set up projects It may no longer be worth the space it takes up on my iPad 5162015 Sooooo looks like youve ticked off a lot of us that kept you in business in the beginning And you have no response at all 62015 Nope they still havent decided to add LEGACY users who were promised lifetime upgrades     STILL No Magic Markers for you
Paid too much for a program that is far from intuitive and requires paid upgrades for basic useful chart tools     Not worth the buy
I have been using this app for several months I love it I dont buy hardcopy patterns anymore Get them as pdfs so I can open them in this app Row markers counters are best of all                 Best knitting app yet
This APP has been enhanced many many times over the 4 years since I got it and each time it just gets better and better Excellent bargain at four times the current price KathyNC                 New MM
KnitCompanion is the perfect name as it is an essential tool for me now Magic markers really make things so much clearer while knitting and greatly lessens silly mistakes Having an app created by someone that is expert in both knitting and computers with the ability to create what really works is marvelous More designers could take lessons from this app what is useful in a user friendly format and great support without a lot of useless bells and whistles I am sorry people have had trouble with this I think they will find ravelrys group KnitCompanion very helpful S and her team answer questions fully and amazingly rapidly They are always there for us                 Wonderful tool
As someone who paid a ridiculous amount for this app very close to launch and was promised full knit companion for life when it changed to subscription I was quite disappointed to find that the developer is using every single loophole she can find to wring an extra penny from the original customers on whose backs the app was built Full knitCompanion has now changed to legacy subscription Hello I didnt subscribe I bought it outright Now the customers who defended her pricing decisions and told every knitter they met about this new wonder called knitCompanion are treated like ungrateful cast offs for wanting communication before she removes features we already paid for and putting them into subscription bundles UPDATE I filed a complaint with iTunes and while the outcome wasnt what I was after it was fair and now I am simply another subscriber Sad that it took Apple to make it right though Be careful if you dip your toes into these waters The prices seem reasonable right now but theres been talk of the bundle price continually increasing as features are added Oh and the new addition Magic Markers does not work as advertised on many popular lace charts Conversation with the developer reveals that she does not take these concerns seriously and she suggested I fiddle with the settings and things would be okay Sure I paid 4 for a feature that does not work and the developer doesnt care Nice I already fiddled with the very limited tweaks available     Buyer beware
Im a programmer and developer and I found the app had a HUGE learning curve but thought for the one time price it was OK simply to keep track of where I was in a text pattern as well as a chart Just updated and discovered the new pricing ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH THE NEW PRICE For a one time purchase it was steep for annual it is absolutely ridiculous Tutorial videos contained Sammy the sheep who made me homicidalthe sheep sounded like someone talking down to an extremely slow 1 yearold andtheytalkedsoslowlyyoudgiveupbeforegettingneededinformation     Not worth the new price
I love this app for knitting using charts It isnt as helpful for crochet Crochet charts cant be followed line by line However my biggest complaint is the inability to organize my PDFs If anyone is listening out there I want to sort them into folders by type I have a L O N G list of patterns that I cant organize into hats afghans etc It would make it so much easier to find my patterns           Good appcould use more features
I too am now called a legacy subscriber I paid 16 to own this app but find Im now relegated as second class status because I dont pay an annual fee No new features for me I find how this developer proceeded with her business model to be dishonest        Now a legacy subscriber
I love this app for patterns that have charts Its awesome and easy to use It does take a long time to set the pattern up though Now the app crashes any time I move the page to see another part of the pattern Then I have to go back reopen and wait for the pattern to load At this point I may go back to using a paper pattern Also I want it to quit asking me to purchase a subscription           Crashes
I really like this app for working through my charts in knitting patterns Its really easy to set up a pattern if you watch the videos and follow the directions This would be a 5 star review if KC offered iCloud syncing The Dropbox syncing is terrible and besides all my other apps sync to iCloud Id like to be able to go back and forth from my iPhone to iPad without having to remember where I am Also the app is really expensive for not having this basic feature           Really good but
Was a useful app but I feel duped by the upgrade that you have to subscribe for it as if the original cost of the app was not hefty enough        Disappointed with upgrade for cost
I was an early supporter of this marvelous app but beware this latest update if you are a lifetime customer This update is only an enhancement if you make an inapp purchase in fact some functionality is removed from the app The developers have forgotten how to communicate with their customers Check out their group on Ravelry for the scoop     Extremely disappointed Bait and switch
I bought the app when the developers promised that if you purchased a lifetime subscription which was very expensive for an app at the time you would get full KnitCompanion forever The most recent upgrade has dismantled at least one feature and now if I want it I have to purchase that feature for 399 A Year Product owners are very active on the product board on Ravelry and have admitted that it is likely future upgrades will remove functionality for lifetime subscribers in order to force them to the subscription model The worst part is they did not tell people that the upgrade would disable one part of the app for lifetime subscribers I used to recommend this HEAVILY with NO reservations Now I think it could be good for those who were not long term customers whove been burned who can get 1099 worth of use out of it every year There is a Very Steep learning curve with this app It is NOT intuitive For a lifetime of useability it was definitely worth it I am not sure it would be worth all the effort to learn the program to have it quit working in a year if you dont resubscribe annually     Unhappy Long Term Customer
Expensive to begin with I say this as a lifetime purchaser who is now expected to have to shell out more each year to get any value Sorry kc Im done Not spending any more on an app you need to pay for classes to understand because you dont get enough info in the online tutorial My advice Stick to good old paper and pencil or if you want to use something on your tablet one of the many free apps that let you mark up PDFs of patterns     Dont waste your
Seriously This app gives me the confidence to knit with reckless abandon As a newer knitter I now will tackle anything from sweaters to lace work and even stuffies Tons of great support directly tutorials and ravelry group The app is continually updated and upgraded If you are serious about knittingget this app To the folks who say its uglyreallywhat does that have to do with a great functioning app A waste of time to set up Notanother review suggests you learn good readerwhy not learn this It is tailored to knitters and has features that good reader will never have Is good reader going to give you integrated pattern support Check out the major designers doing their patterns on KCworth every penny 522 I have read some of the harsh recent reviews and think many people are not giving true info I am legacy owner and added the newest features for 399 magic markers which are awesome Less that a large coffee at Starbucks This is for one year and I am ok with that I am not sure why people think apps need to be free cheap or update you forever Have you tried other apps They are lame and never update This app has great customer support coming most times within minutes As far as learning the program there are lots of free videos If you want in depth training you can buy a class Just like anything else you have to pay to take a class This is a live webinar with the developer and for me well worth it Yes I used it for three years without taking the extra classes but eventually I wanted to take advantage of all the featuresnot just the simple ones                 My knitting has never been better
Makes my knitting so much more enjoyable No more paper patterns for me Have been using since first introduced and it just gets better and better                 LOVE THIS APP
I might actually use this app if it wasnt ugly as b5 It seems really userfriendly and most of the people I know who use it think its great But I cant use it at all because it hurts my eyes A graphic designer is a wonderful thing and would be worth at least two stars           U G L Y you aint got no alibi
The free app provides nice basic functionality And the in app purchase unlocks an amazing set of features worth 10x the price The full app has literally made me a better knitter because I can focus on the knitting rather than cumbersome tracking This app has been constantly improved over the years and the developer support is almost instant Questions Just visit the Ravelry group I must add that the new Magic Markers are AMAZING At first I wasnt sure it could work but they are FANTASTIC I was able to get a whole chart marked with color and counts in under a minute Im always surprised when I hear people expect continuing innovation for free I prefer to support and encourage app devs to bring me new improvements like magic markers I dont think just because I paid a few bucks 3 years ago that Im owed all of the developers future work                 Just keeps getting better
Terrific app for knitters of all levels of competency It has been carefully thought through with a backup for questions in the apps Ravelry group As to the subscription cost its only fair so that the app continues to be supported and improved I have way too many free apps on my devices that at have been abandoned now useless Any one who wants a useful app such as this without some payment should try working for nothing for a while Thats not a sustainable model for life or business                 Top notch knitters assist
I have been using this app for 3 or more years nowit is the best thing for knitting from charts The ability to enlarge track and combine charts is wonderful especially for those of us with less then perfect eyesight There is a learning curve but it is well worth the effort I love being able to organize both charted text patterns into a way that works for how I think                 Best Way to Knit from Charts
I liked this app a lot simple and straight to the point The interface is very bare bones and leave much to be desired however I can live with the 90sera highschool interface of my youth Unfortunately what I CANOT live with is the MASSIVELY bloated size of this app and apparently my iPhone 5 32gb cant live with it either due to the amount of storage space it needs to function Because of this unnecessarily large size Ive had to delete it from said phone If the devs manage to compress or tweak this apps storage requirementssize by at least ⅓ of its current approx 250mb size Ill reconsider DLing it again But as it stands now Im searching for something smaller and better        Good but HUGE space hog
I own a paid version of KC The Magic Markers sound terrific but I was shocked to learn I would have to shell out even more money for a product enhancement I wrote the company and told them as much Not worth it and not right     Not paying more for a product enhancement
KnitCompanion takes care of all the keeping track counting at the same time shaping and all those other pesky details so I can concentrate on the actual knitting My favorite feature is having my current chart row highlighted in the chart and the key directly below It is so incredibly easy to mark up the chart to keep track of anything I need to note or remember I dont know what I ever did without KC                 Wow Just wow
What a disappointment I paid full price for this app when it first came out and have thoroughly enjoyed it But now to get any new improvements I have to start paying a subscription     So disappointed
This app was one of the most expensive apps in the store when I bought it and now the greed from this weekend warrior programmer has reached a new level Now if youd like to utilize certain little added things like magic markers you have to pay an annual fee This app was mediocre at best from the beginning and now this You may have suckered me the first go around but not at chance of it happening again Deleted     Subscriptions
I have been using this app for a couple years now I dont use a pattern without knit companion now                 Love it Use it all the time
Basically you use a pdf pattern file already provided or in the paid version add a pdf of another pattern then create a new project by clicking on that pdf Watching the tutorials and reading the user manual I couldnt find any way to create a project without first uploading a pdf which again is paidversion only according to the user manual so it was completely useless for me If anyone knows how to fix that Ill change my rating        Needs PDFfree option
Buyer be aware The in app purchase cost is per year This app has a hugely steep learning curve To figure out its complex features you need to pay 45 for their comprehensive tutorials They say you dont HAVE to pay for the tutorials but I sure couldnt figure it out without the tutorials The developer now charges for you to receive updates I doubt if I will use the app any more It seems like the developer is more about the money        Steep learning curve and new pricing
How do I tell if Im a legacy or knit companion customer        Magic markers
