Kauai Revealed

I have a 10 year old print edition of this book I think this guide book is so popular because its well organized and easy to read The app is like an index of the book where you can lookup things from the map I much prefer the book format because its easy to read and the content progresses naturally from one topic to the next With the app youll lookup random bits and pieces I think first time visitors will get more out of the paper book For seasoned travellers the app is ok for looking up stuff although theres nothing you cant find on the web and there are better apps out there like the Kauai tour guide It would be nice if the app was a free companion to the book So why only 2 stars Because even after 9 editions the authors STILL have plenty of bad or missing information For example they fail to mention that youre prohibited from driving your rental car to Polihale and several other places I have learnt is its not just a case of having to pay for a tow truck if you get stuck your car insurance can be voided Get in an accident and the consequences could be catastrophic In describing how to drive on sand dunes seriously at least they mention a tow truck will cost a fortune duh After reading the 5th edition one of the activities I got sold on was a powered hang glider flight it gets a huge endorsement in the book Family was concerned but I still made a reservation that got cancelled due to weather On a recent trip I wanted to do it again but decided to research first There have been many accidents in Hawaii I found it interesting that the 9th edition description is almost the same as the 5th including only a dismissal of the accidents in 2011 and failing to mention all the others that happened since the 5th edition The author still tries to convince readers its an awesome and safe activity On Amazoncom the publisher claims every business is reviewed Well its the 9th edition and some of my favorite places open for years arent even mentioned Hanalei the dreamiest town ever has a great vegetarian cafe and market Harvest Market thats not mentioned The really cool Haiviki Art Gallery isnt mentioned Want to stay in Hanalei The apps list of rental agencies is missing a bunch including the ones that have rentals in Hanalei like Hawaii Life and Bali Hai realtors I also noticed Great Vacation Retreats a pretty big rental agency we booked with not mentioned Youre better off browsing gohawaiicom to get a list of accommodations My final example to illustrate my frustration In the 5th edition the author states he has visited every beach at least twice In this edition written 10 years later the author states he has visited every beach at least twice Thats ok for a 2nd edition but not for a 9th It matters because the beaches on Kauai are seriously dangerous and need good and updated descriptions Like Kahili beach In the 5th edition and probably earlier he says sharks have been spotted there Ok that was 10 years ago are they spotted there consistently or is the author just lazy and not updating descriptions because he has only visited the beach twice in 10 years I have read about beach closures at Hanalei when sharks are spotted that is not mentioned in the book I think this book is resting on its laurels Time for something else EDIT This was supposed to be a review for the 9th edition app I accidentally purchased the app twice not realizing that different editions are separate apps instead of upgrades when wanting to load it onto my iPad And now submitted the review to the old edition Doh        Buy the book If you must

I really like the organization of this app You are taken directly to you area of interest and can easily move around Better than the paper guide by far Their suggestions are right on and the reviews are honest not bought paid for Highly recommend the app well worth the money                 Extensive info well organized

We have been to Kauai twice and have decided that this is the only App that youll ever need while visiting this beautiful island It contains detailed information and pictures on just about anything youd ever want to do or see during your visit weather youre looking for a secluded beach or a fabulous dinner this App has it all I highly recommend this mobile App for your next trip to Hawaii                 Great Times

If you are going to or better yet in Kauai you will want this app It will tell you everything you need to know including stuff that you didnt know you needed to know They give you the straight scoop influenced by nothing but their good judgment And even give you directions If you dont have their book already or even if you do this app is worth far more than it costs And now they have done one more important thing it runs on an iPad Buy ityou wont regret it                 App is supremely useful

I have no idea why this hasnt been taken down There is a new version but the number one hit via search is still this one It is out of date and it is easy to miss the note about the new one Just take this one down so people stop paying 799 for outdated info     Dont download this outdated app

I never purchase on Ine guidebooks however I actually purchased the paper guidebook and my husband encouraged me to get the online app It got us to private beaches we would never go to because wede thought we had gone the wrong way The gps makes sure you are always at the right place no matter how remote an area you are in The reviews are spot on The information priceless I would not go to kauai without this                 Worth every penny and more Must have if you are going to kauai

This November will be my 3rd trip to Hawaii For every trip I have relied on Ultimate Hawaii Guides They are easy to use and guide you to the best sights I also love the humor in the books                 Best Guide Books Ever

This is a user friendly app I would recommend playing with it before the trip and marking your favorites so on your trip you are searching as much I prefer this over the book hands down                 Great guide

This app was my only guidebook on the island Using the favorites function was super helpful The best thing about this app was the directions function Google maps was useless in Kauai and using the integrated mapping function helped us get everywhere Worth the for sure                 Great resource

If youre planning a vacation to Kauai this has ALL the needtoknow information and reviews from the book of the same name Its a great companion to the book too because you can search for things by name and tap a spot on the map to see whats nearby This is a huge download because it contains all the maps right in the app theres no signal or external dependency It uses your phones GPS to provide super accurate locations in the maps                 Perfect companion for your big trip

You do not need to buy the book The app is that good The only app I have given 5 stars We use the app multiple times a day and as never disappointed                 Great app

Tried to use it on Kauai and got little bang for the buck Still had to hunt for stuff by category Could be me I am an older user and sometimes have trouble figuring apps out I did like having recent reviews available           Not as easy to use as I expected

This should not be in the App Store I inadvertently purchased this edition after someone recommended it to me Why in the world would you leave an outdated app in the store instead of updating the existing one Very upset Wish I had the 9th edition     Do not get this edition

Its not very helpful and some of the most interesting places are not even recommended there        Not very useful

The depth and variety are nuts The best outdoor adventure app Ive seen and it just happens to be for Kauai Functional GPS easy to search great map which is also searchable and terrific narratives Seriously though I dont want to over hype it but this app is ridiculous and Kauai is a dream                 This app is crazy

Ive used the Revealed books for every trip to Hawaii for the past 20 years the App is the icing on the cake a must have and a invaluable resource Even though I purchased the 9th addition of the book I also purchased the App after reading the reviews I used it multiple times a day to find my way around the island to see what was around me while traveling and general directions The GPS is spoton and saved me hours of searching for the perfect beach and general destinations Dont leave home without it                 The Perfect Companion for your trip to Kauai

This app did a great job for my first trip to kauai and now Im going back and saw a 9th edition as a separate app in the store I wonder if I can get a free update to that version Does anyone know the differences between the two              Update to the 9th edition

This basically the book broken down into locations on the interactive map Touch the map and it tells you what is close and gives you the review from the book You can also have it locate you and it tells you what is close Hit the directions button and it gives you directions to what you were looking at Great app and worth the money                 Perfect quick reference App

I started with the book when I first started traveling to the Hawaiian islands and have transferred to the APP It is really good info and gives sound advice while visiting Kauai and the other islands Keep updating the info                 Great info
