Kanji Flip is a learning tool similar to flashcards, but with an intelligent progress tracking system that helps you learn faster. After you "flip" to the answer, you pick if you were Right or Wrong. The ...
I tend to use Japanese Flip more often than this Having said that this is still a great app Dont quiz yourself initially Use browse mode to acquaint yourself with the kanji then have a go at it                 Pretty decent
I think its a pretty good app Simple but effective Nice to flip through kanji while riding the train and listening to music Its a good system for remembering and I appreciate the softballs tossed in when I am really doing poorly One thing Id like to see on this app is perhaps a scrollable usage area with more examples given than just the two A lot of times the examples given are not the most common usages of the compounds I think if you see a word you actually know in the examples using the kanji in question it makes it a lot easier to remember than just the disconnected meaningwhich doesnt always connect right away when youre trying memorize something new Having a few more examples might do the trick More word examples would not only increase the chance that theres a word or two you might know in there among ones you dont but it makes for a great vocabulary builder and connection maker Otherwise a decent app the extra vocab makes it five stars for me              What Id like to see
Im really enjoying using this program and Japanese Flip as well It works very well For those people who have said that it is missing readings for some Kanji I initially thought so too However I accidentally brushed my finger in the Readings section and noticed that it scrolls to reveal a longer list if the number of readings for a Kanji does not fit in the display space of the Readingss box So they are there you just have to scroll down to see them The same is true for the Meanings section as well Perhaps it would be better if there was some kind of indication when there are more to be displayed to avoid this confusion an arrow perhaps Once I discovered the scroll function in the Readings and Meanings boxes I realized that I would like to see it used to enable more than two example words to be listed per Kanji four or five would be better if possible              Very Good Program even better once I found some hidden features
This app should be called JLPT Kanji It lacks any useful function for making your own study sets Adding your own Kanji to a list of 1000s of JLPT Kanji and hoping to see them again is a meaningless feature More of a Kanji game than a serious study tool        Lacks important features
As a Japanese language student Im thrilled with this app It is just brilliantly easy and effective With this app I train every morning for about half an hour and the rest of the day during spare moments I easily learn 10 new Kanji every day If I can keep this rythme up I will master the 2000 essential Kanji in less than one year I never thought I would be able to do this so quickly This is an amazing tool I would say a must for every japanese student                 Incredible learning tool
Excellent APP すごいです I have been using now for a month and have found it to be extremely useful for increasing my vocabulary especially when I have just a few moments to spare The smart learning system works well even though I feel dumb at times when I have to hit the wrong button many times for some of the harder kanji But it has been working great for me                 Kicks おしり
review update still using it Level 3 mastered original review Someone in my class showed me Kanji Flip It looked interesting but I didnt really get why he was raving about how much he liked it I mean the graphics were pretty nice but it just looked way too simple with the big red and green buttons Well after class the guy explained it to me and let me try it Once I started into using it it was actually pretty involving I missed a lot of the kanji at first but that kind of made me want to get it right the next time it came up My classmate was getting tired of me hogging his iPod so I ended up buying my own I am very glad I did After a few days now I keep at it just to try to complete the level 3 set Im getting pretty close The progress bar keeps me trying to get all the untested kanji out But unless you actually learn it it doesnt give you more kanji So I have been at it on a misson of sorts Whats amazing is that I am blazing through the kanji that Ive burned into my brain                 More fun once you get your own
I love the fact that you added the common uses feature Im not sure how you are going to improve this app with a new update but I bet you will                 Wonderful
Learning kanji using the program is plain nice The interface is simple You just pick the difficulty level and off you go And this is the only app I saw that had a good testing method I know other programs may have kanji strokes but this is the only one I bought that has such a good testing method Thats the key for me really Ease of use and smart AI to do all the grunt work in the background for me Nice app that I can recommend                 Nice Kanji App
Could be better Learning kanji is much easier when you write them out This app should also show stroke order and cosider incorporating sound Free web websites already have both features        Ogesa
In traveling japan and mainland china I have been told repeatedly that these characters are the oldoutdated characters and many are not what would be used now        Outdated character set no longer commonly used
This program has been amazing I have been taking intermediate Japanese classes and it has really helped me do much better on the exams The characters are put into the same JLPT levels as we are learning in class so it is easy for me to study what I need to for the class Also I have added my own words which has been a great help I cant say enough good things about this program and my purchase                 Terrific
I got Russian flip a long time ago and within 45 minutes I had already memorized the entire alphabet This system works amazingly well for me and the best part about it is that it feels rewarding you really get that sense of accomplishment because you learn so fast you feel like a genius Its definitely worth a try Everyone learns different but as long as you keep at it it works great                 Best app for learning symbols
From the beginners perspective this is a great application to help as I dive deeper into this wonderful language I appreciate the way it is organized and feel that it is something that I can use on the bus the subway of just waiting to get a cup of coffee The user interface is super simple and is truly a breeze to figure out The progression system is a good way to learn                 Great Application
The dev was really quick to respond to my questions because I did not understand how the program worked He wrote back in 5 minutes The email explained what to do and I felt a bit silly when I realized how simple it was Anyway I appreciate the authors help Hopefully others will email him like like I did it helped me                 Responsive dev
Retina displays have been around for a year and a half and for an app to not have been updated accordingly is a huge turnoff Any even mediocre designer could design high def icons for the entire app in no more than a few hours Sticky Study Japanese is light years ahead        No retina display
This application is well ahead of all of the competition and does what it sets out to do very well drill you long and hard on all the Kanji youll likely ever need It is built for daily and long term study incorporating powerful interval study features that are the heart of any professional flashcard application designed for longterm acquisition those without interval study are mere cram tools by comparison and if you invest the time it will serve you very well As the reviewer of many flashcard applications I am really impressed with the core functionality of this application I have written a full and detailed review of this application online at foolsworkshop dot com slash reviews slash kanjiflipreview which incorporates some constructive critique but essentially concludes with enthusiastic praise for the application              Leading app of its class
I am a complete beginner not even text book or intro class or tutor Program is so good I felt compelled to write this review Beats reading a book will eventually do that for grammar and real reading obviously but for now characters is focus                 Great for beginner and advanced
The program has been a solid way for me to refresh my memory of kanji It is portable easy and a lot of fun I especially like the program because it makes me feel like I am playing a game I know I am learning but sometimes I forget that part and just keep playing Like others have said its very addictive I find it a challenge to see how many I can try to learn I try to go for a high score and the only way to do that is to keep playing especially when I started off badly Its cheap for something that teaches me something while it makes the time fly                 This is nearly a game
I learned of this program from a friend also interested in Japanese I tried it on his touch and it was very easy to use Now that I have my own itouch I use it all the time I am not past the second difficulty level but it is very effective for me to use in short spurts Recommended for japanese learners like myself                 Good kanji practice
I have been using it for a few weeks now and I am really impressed The learning reinforcement system is something like the Pimsleur language programs when a new item is introduced it appears frequently then it appears less frequently over time as other items are introduced Of course Kanji Flip has feedback in this process and modulates the frequency based on your rightwrong answers I was very worried that it would become overwhelming as I moved into the advanced categories but the system works very well and only introduces Kanji at a rate that you can handle as a learner Its even better now that vocabulary has been added                 Great app for kanji learners
This is a great app Knowing the kanji gives you a great leg up on learning to read Japanese What would be totally awesome though would be mnemonic etymological notes that explain the characters elements and give tricks for remembering their meanings Short of that an annotation feature that would allow you to save your own comments on each character would be helpful                 Mnemonic Annotations Por Favor
Kanji Flip is a great flashcard program for improving or polishing up your Japanese I purchased this very shortly after I got my iPhone in January of 2009 but not much seems to have changed significantly since then The JLPT has moved from levels 4 1 to levels N5 N1 but that is not reflected in this app Several definition errors appear in the Meanings and Readings section as well but its unclear if those errors are in Mr Khromovs programming or errors in the publicly licensed KANJIDIC and EDICT databases All in all a oftenused by me application that could use a little attention           Good app could use updating
Great application for studying Kanji A bit expensive but works good              Great Study Tool
Kanji is a curiosity to me Trying to memorize the shapes is hard but it is better than doing a crossword on the train People even ask me about the app when they sit next to me I find it fun to learn them and the program does not get boring Great way to kill time and stay entertained My goal is all of the 2000 kanji                 Good excercise for the mind
This for 6 bucks sorta a waste Other things are better           Good but
Ive looked at I cant really say Ive been studying Kanji for years and kanjiflip is the best and most convenient tool Ive found for study It helps that you always have it with you so you can pull it out to study at odd moments of idle time Plus I find it pulls me on and I study more than I would normally A great tool Thanks                 Excellent study tool
This program along with Japanese Flip was great to study for the JLPT but there is a great need to be able to customize lists I dont want to have to go thru 900 kanji to get to the 10 new ones I need to learn for my next lesson           Great for JLPT study but not for general
Missing a few things but other than that this is a great program Andre you rock at this Other iPod programers should use you as a model for making apps Please consider this though 1 Corolate the data with Japanese Flip Or at least let us group or work data on a similar level with the same kanji and vocab 2 Really easy kanji showing up in level 1 and 2 is REALLY not necessary Take that stuff out please Its very annoying having to click that you KNOW the kanji over and over 3 Better tracking of known and not known kanji would be helpful 3              Great almost perfect
This application is absolutely awesome for a quick fix on the go and polished enough to merit the price If you can though you should consider an application with emphasis on long term retention like Kanji Gold a free desktop application or several websites First I would like to pool more and more kanji starting with 10 getting to 2000 together for review Second I should rarely be quizzed on super simple kanji I have memorized and more frequently with new kanji I frequently forget Finally it should know when to stop Each time I get one correct move it further into the future which I cant touch until some time has passed Each time I get it right move it twice as far or 15x farther whatever Without a feature like this Kanji Flip is just a toy for passing time It would be a mistake or a waste of time to lean on Kanji Flip for rote memorization              Great for getting started but usefulness falls off a cliff after a while
Kana Flip was the first app of Andres that I used I needed to learn hiragana and it taught it to me very quickly Kanji Flip is the program I now use after feeling confident in my ability to read kana The amount of extra info in Kanji flip is going to keep me busy for a while I am learning the meanings and some readings for now but the two example words give me a sense of context True some of the words are too hard for me but it gives me something to shoot for I have now also gotten Japanese Flip now that I have gotten through JLPT 4 in Kanji Flip These have been solid study aids for me I emailed Andre and he responded very quickly I get the impression he cares about what he puts out Keep up the great work                 Now using Kanji Flip
The Flip system is simply amazing It is not merely a flash card app Anyone studying Japanese could benefit from this I find myself using this for a few minutes throughout the day as well as longer sessions from time to time You cannot beat the convenience Most importantly though is the system itself Kanji Flip introduces you to new kanji while continuing to review those youve already studied Very important to note it focuses on those kanji that give you difficulty and will not stop focusing until you begin to more regularly remember them Its a thrill to see your stats increase over time and addicting I cannot recommend Kanji Flip enough The same goes for Japanese Flip                 Nothing Compares the best
I really like this program and it has helped my reading greatly Id really like to see it show the other way around where it only show the English and kana so that I could practice writing Also maybe show the strokes              Beginner
This is a great way to learn Kanji Hirigana Katakana as well and really does a great job of ingraining it in your head I recommend this App along with Japanese Flip to help learn a fairly difficult language Ive tried all sorts of Japanese language CDs classes etc and this ranks pretty high for me only second to a college class I took For the price its great to start learning and understand how to read the language pretty quickly After you master these pick up books and learn the gramatical nuances of Japanese One request or seperate App would be the stroke order of the Kanji That would be a great help if you wanted to get in to writing Japanese Overall GREAT App and Im keeping my eyes peeled for updates and other stuff by Khromov                 Excellent Way to Learn Kanji
Ive toyed with Japanese on and off for a decade but am finally starting to focus more and actually learn it This program is awesome since I dont always have time to sit at my computer to learn              一番
This is a great app This is the BEST way to learn KanjiKanas My only complaint however is that the author really needs to improve the graphics Everything looks a little amateur interface buttons icon etc and could really benefit from some polish If there are any graphical artists reading this GET WITH THE AUTHOR AND MAKE THIS APPLICATION THE BEST All quirks aside this app is absolutely 100 worth the money                 Great application but
This is a very good fairly priced app for reviewing Kanji Im very glad that the meanings are in hiragana and katakana Good idea to categorize by JLPT It would be nice to just have a study module so you could flip thru the Kanji and meanings quickly instead of pressing show answer and then right and wrong Scoring with right and wrong would be a 2nd step My preference would be to take out the black gradient in the preview and answer screen Stroke order would also be nice to see But hey this is a GREAT first shot           Nice App すごい
Your Kanji Flip program has really kickstarted my studying for the 3kyuu JLPT this year and has been the most effective study tool that Ive used for studying Japanese thus far and I live in Japan The progression system is really great and actually works with the way that I personally learn If I end up passing the JLPT this year Im totally blaming you for it                 Kanji Flip is Flipping Awesome
A neat practice program for the student of Japanese It shows a kanji and think of the correct reading and meaning of the kanji You click show answer and it shows you the meaning and reading along with a couple of common kanji compounds You then select right or wrong to indicate whether you were successful or not This app is a great little tool that could use a couple features to be even better First the app doesnt keep track of your success between sessions It would be more useful if the app remembered how well you performed each time you used the program Second an additional mode that gives you a meaning reading of the kanji and allows you to draw onscreen the correct answer and then compare with the actual kanji would be very useful I will rate the program with three stars for now with the potential for an additional star for each of these two features           Good program that needs features to be excellent Recommended for students of Japanese
What a great program  I teach Japanese at our local university I recommend your program to all the students A bit advanced for a newer student but I would recommend Japanese Flip by the same developer for a little lighter get go into Japanese                 Outstanding
An incredible app I recommend this and for anyone interested in learning the written Japanese language                 Wonderful app
There are free and much lowerpriced apps that offer as much or more For 6 I expect full functionality As of December 2010 browse function not working I give this three stars because I can the see the use for JLPT etc           Overpriced for what it is
This is a great app to help with learning Kanji Fairly priced and well worth it I love the fact that the answers are written in hiragana and katakana Keeps me immersed in the language Higly recommended for those learning Japanese or just need to keep from getting rusty If you dont use it you lose it              Wonderful app Highly recommended
After using this app for only a few days I have become 100 proficient in the Japanese language Now I can go to the local sushi bar and act like I know what the chefs are saying This app is totally outta sight                 Pretty Amazing
A great application for those who are first learning Kanji Friendly interface as well The developers seem to also care about adding updates to it so it keeps getting better and better                 Must have
Im glad I found this app its easy and fun to use                 Great app for kanji
This is a great app for learning Japanese characters Im a complete beginner and have only used the Kana Quiz feature so far but its already more than worth the money I was using a book to learn the HiraganaKatakana alphabets before and making my own flashcards but this program is far better It has thousands of characters and keeps track of the ones you know well and the ones you have trouble with to help you practice most effectively Ive found that 510 minutes 23 times a day has helped me remember more than my book did in a month not that the book was bad but having it right there on my ipod is just so much more convenient and fun Highly recommended                 Great app
Geez got this night before last no previous experience with the kanji and 3 nights later Im at 91 of all 103 starting kanji Nutso these apps must make it easy The funny thing is at the end of night 1 I was convinced it would be impossible and Id wasted my money on this Maybe having the iPhone to tap at keeps you focused I dont know but really excited about the progress thank you
Bought Japanese Flip based on some online articles and blog we really like how it has improved our vocabulary Decided to get serious with kanji so bought Kanji Flip Excellent Only one complaint compared to Japanese Flip only one user option My wife and I share Japanese Flip but cant with Kanji Flip Maybe an update will fix that Hint hint              Liking it
I love this app so much So far I successfully completed JLPT 4 very easily in a little more than a week I just wish there was an audio pronunciation of each kanji and the different ways they can be read So not only will I be able to read the kanji but Ill know how to speak them too              Awesome but
