Jack Kerouac`s On the Road (A Penguin Books Amplified Edition)

As one of the other reviewers mentioned this is exactly why I got an iPad I have always wanted to read this book and thoroughly enjoyed how this app lets you not only read the book but immerse yourself in all the aspects surrounding the book                 Amazing

Finally books can lift off the page and satisfy the creative spirit of the reader This is way more than a book of course It is historical informative and artistic in both its layout and treatment of the subject The interviews with the real life characters make it come alive and add depth to the story As a product of the 60s myself Im glad to know that this important era has come back into view Great job                 Brilliant The Way Books Should Be

This app crashes all the time Very frustrating You have to relaunch flip through and find your page then touch it the wrong way and it crashes again I wish I could get a refund        Buggy

Very disappointing app especially for the price It often crashes when you try to use the embedded links Plus it doesnt bring you back to where you left off so if you dont bookmark your place you have to scroll through the whole manuscript to find your place Also why not have the entire manuscript of the original scroll as well as the published version as long as youre at it     Prone to Crash

Apple has the price of this app listed wrong overcharging Customer service was little to no help Havent used the app since I bought it     Price is wrong

This is not a review on the seminal work by Jack Kerouac The book remains an important part of the nations literary heritage This app unfortunately doesnt live up to the work First the small disappointment no way to annotate the text I am not looking to merely turn a page and read the bookI am looking to devour it to engage with it Just because there is glass between myself and the text doesnt mean that I am not keen to engage I also want to markup the text for future reference and to share quotes with other people There is no way to do this Other reviews have incorrectly said that you cannot change the font size You can it is just counterintuitive The major disappointment the text offers nothing newthe trip maps are nice but not spectacular I had hoped to have an interview or music or something that I dont normally have with the text I have seen most of the additional information in other locations with paper editions The Elliott Wasteland is far superior to this app and should be a model for others Kerouac and the Beats deserve more than this app delivers Readers beware        At this price a disappointment

As much as I like high tech for reading I prefer ink on paper real books magazines newspapers Im always a bit surprised when younger people tell me they prefer reading an ebook to an analog one For me getting an ebook reader was never compelling for a number of reasons However I recently got the new iPad and as it turns out Im using it mostly to read magazines that I can no longer find at the newsstand because of the demise of the latter and often of the print version of the magazine itself Thanks to the combination of the Retina display and apps such as Flipboard Im enjoying reading on the iPad more than I had imagined So I thought Id try an ebook Since On the Road is a book Ive been wanting to read anyway and since this ebook version got such glowing reviews I thought it might change my attitude about ebooks It didnt First its response to gestures is different than Flipboard and other apps I use on the iPad very annoying and disorienting at first Another frustration was that the app never seemed to remember where I left off reading even after carefully placing a bookmark there This was perhaps because I changed orientation andor font size but that is no excuse But the last straw were the numerous misplaced commas and spaces as well as outright typos Spellings such as anythidng and we heeded whisky which should be we needed make it clear that they had simply scanned the book and then didnt even run a spell check to catch where the scanner software had mistaken n for h etc Sloppy work Bottom line after getting almost halfway through the ebook Ive given up on it and am now waiting the return of the paper version to my local library     No more ebooks for me

If you love On the Road get this A well made app Worth every penny                 Great

All of the photos and sketches and audio bytes make this a really funI hesitate to say readbecause its so visual that it feels more like a documentary than a book I dont want to read another book without all of these cool extras Its definitely worth it even if youve already read the book Or especially if youve already read itbecause Im getting insights that I couldnt have gotten anywhere else I dont usually write reviews but I felt compelled to write one here because this stands out as such a great reason to read a book on an iPad                 Wow This is exactly why I got an iPad

I was having major crashing problems and so far after the update I havent had a crash              Update adds stability fixes

This app crashes a lot on my IPad 2 It is very frustrating because it will sometimes crash three or four times in a row just trying to turn a page Like others have said your place in the book is not saved if you dont put a bookmark down and the bookmarks dont transfer between font sizes Please fix these problems in an update The concept of the app is a good one just wished that folks credited with putting it together could take some pride in their work and get it to function        App crashes a lot

Very excited to pick up this amplified edition only to find that all of the amplified content ie not the original book are laid out in this very tiny 8pt or smaller font I guess Ive been spoiled by reading books through iBooks or heck even Penguins inapp reader being able to change the font size should be a mandatory feature for any aspect of a literary app Especially when the very pretty layout lends itself to only very small bands of text Very dissappointed     Very dissapointing lack of font size in all of the amplified material

Ive seen plenty of attempts at porting books to the iPad but after reading this it most definitely blows everything else on the market out of the water Quite possibly the best reading experience Ive ever had So much extra content on all the characters throughout the book including videos audio of Jack Kerouac reading photos and even a map that shows the routes he took on his road trips across North America Dont think twice about getting this worth every penny                 The Way of the Future Best reading experience Ive ever had

Could have been a nice app but virtually unusable considering how often it crashes Thoroughly frustrated with it at this point impossible to read with crashes every few pages and every time I try to return to a bookmark        Crash Crash Crash

I am a huge fan of Jack Kerouacs works so I am very excited to have this app on my iPad Thank you for giving me such an awesome reading experience with profound materials like photos videos and articles about the Beats and the author However Penguin should really consider adding note and highlight functions to this app like what iBook does They are both very helpful especially for those whose first language is not English                 Great app but could be better

Beautifully crafted app Aesthetically pleasing Easy to navigate A wealth of additional information presented in a dynamic way that enhanced not hindered my reading experience They have achieved a lovely balance that preserves the traditional reading experience while also providing interesting interactive material that I can access whenever I want The bells and whistles never overwhelm the book itself Again a lovely marriage of old and new I hope to see more titles in the future                 Beautifully crafted

As a literature junkie this is exactly the digital book experience Ive been waiting for This App has so much incredible content it really takes a classic novel and gives it a fresh perspective And its incredibly user friendly This is an awesome way to read a book I wish all digital books were like this                 Awesome
