Did you ever want to see a falling star but don`t want to sit outside all night waiting to see one? The next best thing is watching Iridium Flares. The advantage of them is that you ...
It was a little confusing at first but it s great                     I love it Flareman876
Iridium flares is even better now that it supports high resolution screens such as on the iPhone 6s and 6s plus If you don t have this app get it and use it to see these strange and fascinating lights in the sky You won t regret it                     Even better now Squishybrain
I love watching the flares Lots of fun Very accurate My only wish would be for the countdown to be spoken Also why does it say the time left is one minute longer than it really is                     I love this app Hms1
This is a fairly weak App It is very limited in the information it provides alarms are not integrated with the iPhone calendar it does not refresh automatically Not worth the money it costs There are free Apps that do the same job     Disappointed Mistiano1959
Thanks This is an excellent app Really fun to be able to watch the flares                     Great App Chartw
I ve always enjoyed spotting a satellite going across the sky at night With this app you can spot them without having to rely on luck                     I love this app BuBuBooBoo
Great app one of the best Iridium flares apps It deserves 5 stars However there are two major problems with it ones that got introduced with this latest version And a third that remains from before Also have a suggestion 1 The new version puts a large frame on the top and bottom of the screen creating an unneeded unwanted letterbox effect that also shows fewer flares of the list The developer did it to accommodate those who want multiple sites you slide between them Well that assumes users observe Iridium flares from multiple places Many of us do not It d be so easy to include an option to turn that off I d imagine that even those with multiple sites would enjoy more room to list the flares and a different way of switching sites Please fix this 2 The app requires you to calibrate its compass on startup That s a nuisance all one wants is to see what flares are coming up not play a game labyrinth rotate the iPad until all the lines around the circle are filled in That shouldn t be required until wants to invoke compass mode 3 One glaring omission remains from prior versions we need to be able to set alarms much earlier than 10 minutes before Let us do 1 2 hour or 1 hour it can take time to assemble the family put on the coats finish dinner etc 4 One big suggestion let us see past flares Often one is out observing or even doing casual sky gazing and sees a flare we d like to be able to check on it Here s my prior review with updates One step forward MAJOR step backwards This is one of my favorite astro apps but it has just taken a turn for the worse It used to be night time friendly yellow bars and text on a jet black background Now though it is glaring with a white background I m floored by this Ruins one s vision FIXED On the plus side the developer added much better information screen with larger compass direction heading eg N or E and map I ll have to double check those as I m going to reinstall the older app Haven t found the notifications setting something other reviewers touted Certainly hope it doesn t wake us up REMINDER BUTTON IS A BELL Also if you go to Notification Center in Settings you can include this app However with only 10 minute reminder what s the point The older version handled wi fi better auto load quickly determined when wi fi was not available this just keeps the spinning dashes going and going A bug Fixed Have to test it Oh yeah One other thing it didn t remember the saved dates and times of flares from the previous versions a rude awakenng early this morning blinding screens and no data a drag Developer is responsive so I m sure probs will be fixed soon             Latest version introduced two major issues Another remains AstroPaul
This app works as advertised it s very precise and completely stable Why pay anyone else                     It works Marski1221
easy to use                     Gr t update snzsy
Since the upgrade the app will not load flares States none are found     Not happy 3card_Monty
Or perhaps the author simply doesn t understand it As a result the lower intensity depicted by the bar graph the brighter the object will appear This is because the bar graph tracks the absolute value of the predicted mag ignoring sign Clearly that is incorrect behavior         Magnitude is broken Gomezcaline
Needs Ability to select miles vs kilometers This is a no brainer Needs more robust and flexible scheduling capabilities For instance instead if alerting to any one specific event allow the ability to select ANY ALL flare events for a given location with a pre warning already present in app and with a configurable intensity threshold for the events to skip low intensity level events Already done graphically with a multiple bar gauge but should be worked into the alerting scheme Remember this app THRIVES on its alert configurability Having said all this it will be THE best Iridium app soon I have them all                 More work LosAngeles90631
Crashes within a few seconds every time     Crashing Everynickistaken64589653365326
Was one of my favorite apps but these days it freezes more often than not Either fix the server problem or stop supporting the app     Serious server problems Boradis
Still hit miss when connecting to server great App when it is working though Five STARS and a BRIGHT flare                     Great App when its working The Other other Rizz
Slick app Straight forward and effective Makes planning a flare sighting easy Problem now the server it is dependent upon is not responding And instead of gracefully degrading the app user experience now it simply crashes Every time     Stopped working Was once quite good E4599511
I ve got the 2 2 1 update but I still get Error Unable to connect to sever This has been going on for at least a week Sad face     Cannot connect to server Bubble chum
The new update fixes the Heavens Above connection problem so it s back to greatness Accurate info quickly and usefully presented and I don t want to be without it                     Great App 2boldlygo
Unable to connect to the website to update data I would suggest not purchasing this app     Failing to connect to the website Spirited Drive
The program does nothing but tell me Error Connecting The website is currently unreachable No clue about what website no hints about why it s unreachable since I m entering this obviously I have network access just endless repetitions of the error message I installed the app last night at the Peach State Star Gaze in Georgia in hopes of catching a flare or two The only thing the app has told me is Error Connecting for the last 12 hours Using an iPad 2 with IOS 6     Well This was a waste Ngc1514
Fantastic iPad ap Everything you need to know right in front of you simple to use easy to read and good screen graphics too                     Perfection The other Riz
This is totally useless since it does not use your current location You have to manually enter your Latitude and Longitude which is absurd It won t even give you the coordinates of your current location I can t believe they are selling it like this     No Current Location Stevryn
This app is excellent and does what it s supposed to do It tells me when a flare is where to look for it and where to be to get the best view My feature requests are these I would love to be able to save more than one location in the app Because it would be sweet to be able to tell my friend across the country when and where she should look outside to see a flare It would also be really nice if the flare s path could be displayed indefinitely in each direction on the map and not just the immediate proximity around the point of closest approach to me That would make it easier to plan where to go to get the best view Otherwise great job                     Great app have a couple feature requests MoJoeLDS
I ve used this app many times to spot flares and it s always been spot on With the countdown timer and built in compass it s a breeze to pop out and catch a flare even on a cold winter night My one item to add to the wish list would be to add a direction of orbit marker Even though you get to know most of the satellites and their orbits after many viewings it would still be handy and currently available from the same site used for time and location Thanks for app easy recommendation for me                     Great app great fun Trocergian
Really enjoy the app One thing I m missing however is an indication of which direction the sat will be traveling north to south or south to north This info is available on Heavens Above and it is helpful in determining where to look to visually acquire the sat early in it s passage Hope I m not just overlooking how to find this on the app Thanks                 Direction of travel Acklimated
I love this app Thanks so much for the updates                     Must Have App sOulbAit
This is an excellent app and it works great Update Note there is a workaround to the bright color scheme issue From developer use the built in White on Black feature You can enable this in Settings General Accessibility Triple click Home Important to make this setting toggles by three clicks of the home key as otherwise the iPad color scheme is really odd for everything else I will however add my voice to the many others here about the bright color scheme Please add an option for a dark color scheme or even a special black red night vision mode As it is currently I can no longer use this app during star parties as I ll have my eyes poked out by everyone for ruining their dark adaptation                     Great App LiamAstro
Great potential but crashes frequently Needs nighttime mode It is only 99 cents but having said that it uses data from a web service and google maps so it is not like the app has to do much really Would be nice to save multiple locations and switch to them quickly Again great concept but needs a bit of work to make it great             Needs work mag.a
I like that it points the direction using the compass how about using the accelerometers for the angle                 angle Caio Iglesias
This app worked great and I was able to view a flare on the first try However when I try to view on map it closes the app This is kind of annoying but it still is able provide the necessary info I hope the map issue is fixed soon Minus one star for that Update reinstalling the app resolved the map crash issue We ll see how it goes                 Accurate Tamibird
With the 2 0 update the app becomes unusable because of the glaring white background         Unusably Glaring Interface Bozocity
The 2 0 upgrade is awesome It s a snap to have your phone give you a quick reminder when it s time I set it for ten minutes and one minute After one minute it gives you a 60 second countdown A real work of art and worth every penny If I were to make suggestions 1 Red night mode Hey it s already monochromatic so it should be easy 2 Allow me to remember more than one location and the scheduled flares for those locations for when I m out of net cell range at an observing site 3 When zooming into a particular flare show the current time hrs min sec just above or below the flare hrs min sec So I can tell the difference between 1 10 to go and 1 50 to go In other words so I can count down the seconds BEFORE the last 60 seconds when there is a countdown Once again awesome work Version 2 0 is now my favorite astronomy app just eeking out GoSatWatch                     Worth every penny Howdee!
Recent update is very nice The map and reminders are a great addition The app works great but would personally like a little more colorful UI But maybe im being picky Over all for 99 this app works VERY well Dec 20th edit After thinking about it the lack of color in the UI doesnt constitute a one star deduction Edit to make a full 5 stars                     Great update FebruaryXVI
This is nice and works well Easier than going to the Iridium Flare site by the normal web browser There are several features in my mind that would make this app even nicer 1 Alarm N minutes before the flare where N is configurable 2 Showing the direction to the center or the location of the center on the map 3 Night vision mode 4 Showing the direction to the flare relative to the actual direction utilizing the compass Keep up good work                 Nice this surely makes easier to enjoy flares Tomoto Washio
A great app in initial concept and implementation Works well as currently designed As others have mentioned a few upgraded features would make it a 5 star app Night vision mode An editable menu of observing sites similar to ISS Passes that can be selected and data updated before heading out to selected observing site currently have to punch in lat long each time desired site is not current location Most dark sites don t have cell or wifi coverage Countdown timer or selectable alarm for selected flares With above features it would probably be worth more than 99 cents to me                 Iridium Flares Scopegeek - Las Vegas Astronomical Society
This app works great I would also like to see notifications before an event Seen my first satellite reflection today                     Great app RichDIT
Amazing ap Still hoping for an alert prior to flare events                     User JFG54
Totally worth the 99 cents Works great The kids and I frequently keep an eye out for these totally cool flares Wait until you see one of the really bright ones amazing Accurate to the second and fun to show friends the flares A cool option or two for the future use would be ability to type zip code or pick your location from a map Being able to predict ISS passes would be handy and maybe text message or beep on the phone 10 mins before a pass Thanks for the cool app                     Great App Lookinforstuff
It works but is a little to simple I would like to see a countdown or even a decent way to refresh it without going into the settings             It works t0ny-p40
I love the idea of this app very simple to use and works well Like other people have said a count down feature would be great A push alarm feature would be awesome If those things were added it would easily be a five star app I m hoping for an update soon             Great start Cookie-Tree
I saw my first flare tonight and it came exactly when it said it would Great and simple app for cheap I would pay extra for it to have a real time map of the sky so I could follow the iridium sat easier but I love this app anyway I got a 8 coming tomorrow night I hope it s clear out If you didn t know heavens above it the premier website for satellite tracking so this apps info should never be wrong                     Awesome beav311
I was initially dubious as it crashed twice right after purchase But then it got better Tried for a 6 last night but cloudy Tonight two in a row as predicted a 1 then a 2 right after Brilliant Simple app No real complaints                 Hey hey it works Thruhiker74
I love this app It works well for me and reports its predictions pretty quickly Nice job Someday I hope to be able to convince some natives that I m a god with this info Suggested improvements I wish it could show me the times in countdown mode and I wish it could help me find the right spot in the sky by using the angle sensor built into the iPhone and the compass if available                 Nearly perfect edaniels
It doesn t work on my first generation iPhone I would really like something like this     doesn t work ferrethandler
This is a really fantastic app Does just what it says it will I ve caught 4 flares since installing it last week It is lacking a few things though 1 GPS coordinates of the point directly under the flare and then a link to the google maps for it 2 Ability to add reminders for flares 3 Countdown timer to a flare occuring                 Fantastic App AWBoy
it dosent work i have been trying to connect for two months it wont work it cant find me i wonder how it can find a satellite i want it to work i am very excited about the idea i am waiting for the server to locate me i turn it on and wait for 10 minutes for it to connect to no avail i will keep trying for now there is only one star in this galaxy     no va biguglyblackman
Wont launch successfully half the time Instead it dumps me back to the home page contianing the app icon Does same thing also half the time when clicking on a flare summary instead of giving me flare details When it works its great but the update makes that problematic I did write the developer today 12March2009              Love the app but update unstable on iPhone 3G
it dosent work i have been trying to connect for two months it wont work it cant find me i wonder how it can find a satellite i want it to work i am very excited about the idea i am waiting for the server to locate me i turn it on and wait for 10 minutes for it to connect to no avail i will keep trying for now there is only one star in this galaxy     no va

So I havnt yet seen one yet because its been too cloudy but once I do I am going to be soooo happy LOL Cool for all the info it tells so you know where to look in the sky Definately workh the 99 cents                 Very Cool
I was initially dubious as it crashed twice right after purchase But then it got better Tried for a 6 last night but cloudy Tonight two in a row as predicteda 1 then a 2 right after Brilliant Simple app No real complaints              Hey hey it works
The 20 upgrade is awesome Its a snap to have your phone give you a quick reminder when its time I set it for ten minutes and one minute After one minute it gives you a 60 second countdown A real work of art and worth every penny If I were to make suggestions 1 Red nightmode Hey its already monochromatic so it should be easy 2 Allow me to remember more than one location and the scheduled flares for those locations for when Im out of netcell range at an observing site 3 When zooming into a particular flare show the current time hrsminsec just above or below the flare hrsminsec So I can tell the difference between 110 to go and 150 to go In other words so I can count down the seconds BEFORE the last 60 seconds when there is a countdown Once again awesome work Version 20 is now my favorite astronomy app just eeking out GoSatWatch                 Worth every penny
It saves having to go to the HeavenAbove site login and check out what flares are scheduled for that night at your location Observing these flares has always been an enjoyable experience but remembering to do so on clear nights has been a deterrent With this app you can make it a habit to check the schedule each night An app well worth getting                 A Very Useful Little App
Amazing ap Still hoping for an alert prior to flare events                 User

Ive used heavensabove for years and this is a great extension of the site Very quick easy One suggestion adding a link to show on the map where the center of a flare is when it reaches my current viewing location would be great ISS passes would be cool too but Im not getting greedy                 Great job
Ive got the 221 update but I still get Error Unable to connect to sever This has been going on for at least a week Sad face     Cannot connect to server

The Iridium satellite system continues to be a technical marvel and from what I know they have finally become a business success as well An Iridium phone works anywhere on the planets surface even in polar regions at sea or on the top of a mountain Visible flares are a wonderful byproduct as the satellites are only about 480 miles away and travel around the planet in 100 minutes or about 10 minutes horizon to horizon This app does a great job of telling you where to look to find them and it works outside at night rather than the website Great job     Great app
This app works as advertised its very precise and completely stable Why pay anyone else                 It works
Fantastic iPad ap Everything you need to know right in front of you simple to use easy to read and good screen graphics too                 Perfection

This app is excellent and does what its supposed to do It tells me when a flare is where to look for it and where to be to get the best view My feature requests are these I would love to be able to save more than one location in the app Because it would be sweet to be able to tell my friend across the country when and where she should look outside to see a flare It would also be really nice if the flares path could be displayed indefinitely in each direction on the map and not just the immediate proximity around the point of closest approach to me That would make it easier to plan where to go to get the best view Otherwise great job                 Great app have a couple feature requests
Simple app does what it promises I used it to observe a flare on the same evening I bought it Flare was exactly where the app said it would be Suggestion to the developer please make it so that chosen events can be exported to Calendar Ill add another star for that feature Thanks              Simple App
Hey is it just me or is anyone else having problems with this app not connecting and getting flare info        Web site down
This app works great I would also like to see notifications before an event Seen my first satellite reflection today                 Great app
Ive used this app many times to spot flares and its always been spot on With the countdown timer and built in compass its a breeze to pop out and catch a flare even on a cold winter night My one item to add to the wish list would be to add a direction of orbit marker Even though you get to know most of the satellites and their orbits after many viewings it would still be handy and currently available from the same site used for time and location Thanks for app easy recommendation for me                 Great app great fun
