Gerty is a simple and meticulously crafted app to read your books and record great memories as you read them. eBook reader, journal, notes, photos, maps - you`ve never seen anything like this before READING FEATURES - ...
The application hasn t been updated for 2 years Dropbox integration doesn t seem to work anymore Too bad it could have been a great app     Abandoned app Dr. Antekirtt
Gerry is beautiful easy to use and had lots of fantastic customisation options I wish I could use this to read my iBooks and Kindle purchases                     Favorite e reader Becca-saurus
Non standard UI makes basic actions hard         Terribly muddled and inconsistent UI pferro
All in one                 Good app Waynewang1976
This app shouldn t even exist An e reader that doesn t support pagination Ridiculous     Hilariously nonfunctional compared to Marvin Squirrely_in_Chicago
I would go as far as to say its the best free e reader around The Simple UI makes it great and using drop box is a must Keep it up guys                     Great jojo117ninja
I use this daily I m always reading and this is the perfect way to store all the books and fictions I find that are not from the iBook store                     Use it all the time JMorales15
This app has everything I could hope for reading on my phone Auto scroll dropbox linked an option to add photos and more So happy to find this really worth what I paid for the full version Thanks for putting so much thought into what users want                     Exactly what I have been looking for lly Bethdarleen
I used to use iBooks with the scrolling view but after a terrible update iBooks scroll became unusable super janky and constantly loosing your page I tried many reader alternatives and this is by far the best experience It s UI is a little weird but it stays out of the way for the most part Much better then iBooks ever was                     Nice and simple scrolling Laser claw
There are a lot of things in this app that are good ideas though the implementation is cumbersome It definitely needs highlighting and easy export to Evernote of just the highlights without metadata and without book cover pics attached to each highlight I was a user of Marvin previous to this and still find that app better for EPub Actually I m finding I want to convert ePub files to word or PDF just to use the liquidtext iOS app that app is massively innovative and seamless in its note taking and overall reading experience I do still like this app for autoscrollso I ll keep it on the iPad to see if it gets updates             Lots of ideas but capedape
I love reading An auto scroll reader app is a must for me They re hard to find and I ve tried most of them This one is my favorite Easy to use Just touch center of page to bring up the control options Loading new books is a breeze through your Dropbox acct Deleting finished books a snap I recommend this app to everyone Love it                     Best Autoscrolling eReader I ve Found Looraaluu
No highlighting Are you kidding me I bought the unlock and everything So much potential but so useless without such a key feature     No highlighting meathpj
It isn t perfect but it can find my calibre library in Dropbox and let s me get at my books on iOS It doesn t read metadata etc but I m just happy I can filter and search and I ve had no problems with stability or crashes                     Actually works with calibre library when stored in Dropbox Jonathan Morgan
I was so excited to find this program but I am unable to get it to run on my iPad pro After starting imports from either iCloud iTunes or dropbox it minimizes and never comes back If i uninstall in and reinstall it will start up and show me the program start screen but then just crashes again if i try to import even a single book         Crashes when I try import books MaryDay
Being putting up with Kindle s incompetence for a while this app came as a savior The auto vertical scroll is a killer feature for me And UI is ten times better than Kindle s Hope the developer can keeping improving the app Good job                     Fantastic reading app Bananawitz
Gerty does vertical scrolling Excellent Marvin needs vertical scrolling But no highlighting or underlining Its not a reading app without highlighting or underlining The theme choices are nice but perhaps make them customizable Please give Marvin vertical scrolling and both Marvin and Gerty underlining         ONE THING RIGHT TWO THINGS WRONG BMS12
lacks the flexibility and functionality of other similar apps         not worth it frenchwench
I only use it to read epub files Its conveniently fast which is all i need Thank you                     Great as an Epub reader Dr.unique93
Wish it had ability to add other formats such as mobi and djvu and I d switch to it exclusively as my reading App The ability to add notes is so simply elegant and then to export as ePub is priceless Would be nice to add ability to export journal notes to PDF or to One Note would be nice too                     Amazing app the almost ONE for a book addict heartist
No highlighting or underlining Even with all of its nice features this omission means it s not really an app for many of us trying to use it for studying         Should ve read the reviews lwollard
The app asks for complete Dropbox access this is unacceptable A single folder sure but complete access is just not ok for a third party app         Overly Broad Dropbox Access ExpertMatt
This is a great ebook reader as long as you don t need to highlight anything But I do so it s useless He went to all the trouble to add journaling and other features not found in other apps but witheld the most basic It boggles the mind     What is the dev thinking DannyGGGT
Plecase add the feature to edit the cover of the books Overall a good app for reading                 Cover edit marincik
For a while there my only go to app for reading ePub format ebooks was iBooks but each time I changed devices I had to resort all my books I m kinda the obsessive compulsive book sorter With the excellent UI of Gerty I no longer have to spend my time in sorting my collection simply syncing it and reading Making my reading sessions pure bliss                     Awesome app for avid book readers Arnav Garde
So far love UI and that s important to me May well jump ship from goodreads now that they ve gone to The Dark Side this may be my lifeboat Imagine it would be great to have a closed book group on social media FB and it looks like this app would allow you to share comments as you re reading VERY easily Am also looking forward to trying the timed page auto advance Also like the idea of tracking reading time It s all pretty ingenious BTW Appstafarian is a fab name B                 Review of full version to follow gneissplace
I like the app but I couldn t seem to find out how to change the cover of the ebook May I suggest that you give an overview of the hows and whats in the app But other than that it s a good and simple app that I would be using for a long time possibly my go to ebook reader                 Nice app Tomfurball
The dev doesn t seem interested in adding real ePub 3 0 support when there are free alternatives that handle it just fine Sure the UI is nice but who really cares when 95 of your time in this app is spent actually reading a book There was no reason for the dev to release this app when he already had the superior app Marvin other than just to double dip his customer base His time would have been better spent on improving Marvin but instead we ended up with 2 sub par apps that rarely get updated neither of which truly support ePub 3 0     This is not the ePub reader you re looking for bonebox
One question Did someone forget to place a highlighter in the app A vast number of us need to highlight our ebooks Tried it extensively with the same review I m sure that they know by now that users are requesting a highlighter margin control background font selections and page turn selections but it appears without these this app is destined to the mediocre status that it deserve I m personally sticking with real epub and epub 3 readers     ebook researcher Wonda1968
Truly marvelous app for serious readers but how com there is no way to highlight or underline text This lacking feature should be a must in the next update that should be very soon                 Excellent minus highlighting Really Voracious Reader
Gerty would be an excellent ereader if it had a very nice top of the line highlighter I use my ereader to study the watchtower and other publications so I m looking for an ereader that downloads ePub PDFs audio and highlights and I m finding it hard to find that combination             I like Gerty but (#)grannie(#)
especially like the auto scroll feature works nicely on iPad 2 with iOS 7                     interesting approach I don,t want a nickname
I accidentally deleted my great Gerty library and would like to retrieve it out of the Cloud or Dropbox There are no instructions in Help or anywhere This is why I took one star off of the great Gerty How do I retrieve this library in instructions I can understand                 Frustrated Marcoandsabrina
It took a while but grew on me It s a toss up between this and Marvin But since I own both I don t have to choose just one Not for the traditional book reader but a lot of interesting features if you play around                     Interesting app scottjl
I usually don t bother writing reviews but this is such a great piece of software that I had to comment This auto scroll feature is incredible It s a feature that is essential like a mouse wheel                     A Gem rzmonk76
I love this app The design is great the features are ones I use often and the Dropbox integration makes everything so simple It s totally functional out of the box and the one time 4 fee to unlock extra features is a reasonable one                     Great and beautiful ekmoore
Updated Review I had given Gerty a 4 star rating for the apps innovative approach see below and potential for greatness BUT it s been months with no updates and the shortcomings lack of any highlighting and lack of any links between relevant text and journal entries of the present version keep it from being worth 4 stars I ll take another look if Gerty gets an update but I m not confident that will ever happen Sad I love the idea Gerty is a beautiful smooth scrolling reader but the highlight feature I think is the integrated reading journal I don t think that the journal is implemented as well as it could be but it s a promising start Gerty desperately needs three things to be a killer reader 1 Integration between books and journal needs to be better As it is now there is no indication in a book that you have made a journal entry regarding a passage and in the journal there is no way to jump from a journal entry to the copied text in the book 2 Highlighting Passages that you copy to your reading journal should be able to be highlighted Maybe different colors could be use linked to tags 3 Integration with Evernote Right now you can export your journal to an epub but to have it sync with tags with an Evernote notebook would be killer Keep up th good work I ll be watching for the next version before moving from marvin         Great concept with lots of potential everyXnewXday
I have a very large book collection and Gerty allows up to 5 000 books as opposed to Marines 1 000 It would be great to have better organization options for large libraries maybe an alphabet scroll on the side of the page a TOC with an Authors list It would also be great to have Cloud storage for books similar to Kindle you can see all the books in the library but limit the number actually downloaded to your iPhone Very promising App                     Love Love Love LawyerSandel
I really want to like this I love the streamlined interface This is a reader for people who like simple and detest page counts Right now though it does not recognize chapter sub headers You see them in the TOC but when you click them they do not work ie they take you to the start of the chapter not the section you want This and OPDS support are each worth one star respectively for me             Could be great BearSays
Gertie is great for journaled reading AND vertical scrolling If you have an ORA techpub with code samples it s GREAT that there is no pagination If you nee the journal it s there Personally d like syncing between Gertie and Marvin Sometimes i like Marvin s toolset better but don t see the point of bloating Gertie                     Gertie isn t Marvin vice versa Leo of BORG
Stunning UI You can t move from a particular highlight block in journal back to its original point in book This kills app for researchers Ability to integrate journal with Evernote would be fantastic Ability to filter Dropbox booklist by calibre tags is my holy grail of desired features             Great but one big flaw Rhcbiz
Update claims there is now a landscape mode available in themes Does not exist Most basic e reading feature out there and it is not able to handle that I foolishly thought landscape mode was one of those features that you had to pay for Wish I hadn t bothered Will be deleting shortly     Will not read in landscape Irate
Although I pretty much prefer the developers alternate ereader app Marvin one feature has me coming back to this app and it s the customizable auto scrolling feature which is great for reading in bed with minimal fuss no more accidental page turns or iPad in face situations with this new feature                     My new in bed reader Philip R.
This is a beautiful way to read Smooths out all the wrinkles between Marvin and iBooks Please make it universal              Beautiful
It took a while but grew on me Its a toss up between this and Marvin But since I own both I dont have to choose just one Not for the traditional book reader but a lot of interesting features if you play around                 Interesting app
While its not as good as Marvin in some choices the scrolling works best for me No more awkward thumbing to get to the next page I do wish there were more fonts like Arial Rounded and anticipate that will happen Add scrolling option to Marvin and Id probably use that but for now Im sticking with Gerty              Love Love Love the scrolling
I have a very large book collection and Gerty allows up to 5000 books as opposed to Marines 1000 It would be great to have better organization options for large libraries maybe an alphabet scroll on the side of the page a TOC with an Authors list It would also be great to have Cloud storage for books similar to Kindle you can see all the books in the library but limit the number actually downloaded to your iPhone Very promising App                 Love Love Love
There are a lot of things in this app I like I just wish they were more seamless One reviewer already commented that Marvin needs indicators within each book that it has a journal entry This would be welcomed I read paper books and with a Kindle as well The big one for me is better Evernote integration It has worked great for me as a central place for my books highlights for 8 years now and better export to Evernote is what I need to use Marvin regularly Ill update this app to five stars with each of those           Lots of ideas
Ive used Marvin as my reader of choice for over a year but Im really enjoying this new app It is much easier to download content from Dropbox                 Love it
If you dont want to read your books in a scrolling format dont bother with this app It doesnt support regular pagebypage reading The UI is also pretty confusing and the app is essentially not usable unless you do the inapp purchase Seemed promising from the makers of Marvin which is the best book reader app there is Very disappointing though        Scrollingtext only Most advanced features are locked down
I dont know how to highlight text developer has removed it           Remove highlight
I really want to like this I love the streamlined interface This is a reader for people who like simple and detest page counts Right now though it does not recognize chapter subheaders You see them in the TOC but when you click them they do not work ie they take you to the start of the chapter not the section you want This and OPDS support are each worth one star respectively for me           Could be great
Downloaded on my iPhone and iPad and great experience on both Keep up the great work                 Great App
Truly marvelous app for serious readers but how com there is no way to highlight or underline text This lacking feature should be a must in the next update that should be very soon              Excellent minus highlighting
The dev doesnt seem interested in adding real ePub 30 support when there are free alternatives that handle it just fine Sure the UI is nice but who really cares when 95 of your time in this app is spent actually reading a book There was no reason for the dev to release this app when he already had the superior app Marvin other than just to doubledip his customer base His time would have been better spent on improving Marvin but instead we ended up with 2 subpar apps that rarely get updated neither of which truly support ePub 30     This is not the ePub reader youre looking for
Updateif this integrated with both Marvin and Evernote and had an iPad version I think I would understand Its like an entire notes systembut its never going to have the depth of Evernote As is I still dont get it The UI is nice Its just kind of a strange concept I love Marvinbest ereader out thereso I hope this gets merged into that           Huh
this is my favorite book reader app import of books could be made vastly easier by adding other cloud providers beyond dropbox iCloud in particular the more books placeholder section is useless could use improvement in the sorting of books in the library and in terms of integrating the menu while reading currently separate scrolloptions section fontorientation section and book content section bottom bar wastes real estate they should consider adding scrolling speed control over the text of the book maybe horizontal swipe              miss iCloud drive integration
This is from the same developer that created Marvin He should have put these features into Marvin instead of creating another app Best ePub app ever Not even close     Not Thrilled At All
especially like the autoscroll feature works nicely on iPad 2 with iOS 7                 interesting approach
Updated Review I had given Gerty a 4 star rating for the apps innovative approach see below and potential for greatness BUT its been months with no updates and the shortcomings lack of any highlighting and lack of any links between relevant text and journal entries of the present version keep it from being worth 4 stars Ill take another look if Gerty gets an update but Im not confident that will ever happen Sad I love the idea Gerty is a beautiful smooth scrolling reader but the highlight feature I think is the integrated reading journal I dont think that the journal is implemented as well as it could be but its a promising start Gerty desperately needs three things to be a killer reader 1 Integration between books and journal needs to be better As it is now there is no indication in a book that you have made a journal entry regarding a passage and in the journal there is no way to jump from a journal entry to the copied text in the book 2 Highlighting Passages that you copy to your reading journal should be able to be highlighted Maybe different colors could be use linked to tags 3 Integration with Evernote Right now you can export your journal to an epub but to have it sync with tags with an Evernote notebook would be killer Keep up th good work Ill be watching for the next version before moving from marvin        Great concept with lots of potential
Absolutely love this reader If you like vertically scrolling rather than going pagebypage then this is definitely the app for you You can adjust font font size margins distance between lines all that optimizes your personal comfort in scanning the text The autoscroll is finely adjustable and butter smooth and you can still manually control the text while autoscrolling The app has brightness controls and auto night mode so you dont need the control center These are the most important things since the reading experience is where you are at the vast majority of the time                 Marvelous Reader
Before you get this app be warned the reading experience will be very different than other ebook apps Text scrolls up the screen like words on a teleprompter If youre comfortable with this great If you dont like it then unfortunately the app provides no option for a traditional onepageatatime reading experience The app also lacks Calibre support and the developer doesnt plan to add it So Im sticking with Marvin the other ebook reader from this developer        Lacking key features
So far love UI and thats important to me May well jump ship from goodreads now that theyve gone to The Dark Side this may be my lifeboat Imagine it would be great to have a closed book group on social media FB and it looks like this app would allow you to share comments as youre reading VERY easily Am also looking forward to trying the timed page autoadvance Also like the idea of tracking reading time Its all pretty ingenious BTW Appstafarian is a fab name B              Review of full version to follow
Love the scrolling reading view                 Very nice app
I like the design of this app much more than Marvins I like to read by scrolling but I do wish there was an option If this had all of the features that Marvin does I would go premium in a heart beat           Not quite there yet
Crashes on trying to open pretty much anything     Crashomatic
Scrolling is which most of time I use while reading ebooks Gerty is overall ok I hope it will be better with more functionality like landscape reading position        Gerty feedback
Gerty would be an excellent ereader if it had a very nice top of the line highlighter I use my ereader to study the watchtower and other publications so Im looking for an ereader that downloads ePub PDFs audio and highlights and Im finding it hard to find that combination           I like Gerty but
A real pleasure to use                 Awesome app
Let me hook it up to Calibre and let me scroll books side to side instead of updown and Ill give it a longer look Calibre is where Ive got all my books and scrolling updown is just too wierd to be comfortable with              Looks good but sticking with Marvin for now
Im not sure if the developer is phasing Marvin out but this app wont allow users to customize metadata the way Marvin will The info pane is hard to find and once found it links to web services like wikipedia without offering the option to edit the information presented This makes it extremely difficult to correct an issue with sorting such as author by first name first vs last name first in the author sort field I had hoped that this app would allow more complete management of my library than Marvin does but Gerty also only offers one level sorting Ideally I would be able to manually sort my cover view or sort by author then series Both apps stop at one level of sorting though           Not a replacement for Marvin
For a while there my only go to app for reading ePub format ebooks was iBooks but each time I changed devices I had to resort all my books Im kinda the obsessive compulsive book sorter With the excellent UI of Gerty I no longer have to spend my time in sorting my collection simply syncing it and reading Making my reading sessions pure bliss                 Awesome app for avid book readers
I come to this review as a Marvin user Absolutely adore Marvin hands down the best ePub library manager and reader available Until I got a taste of Gerty As mentioned in the 122914 review scrolls like butter and the entire user experience can be fine tuned Im 36 into an Atwood novel and cant see myself going back to Marvin Look forward to the next round of enhancements to this beautiful app DayOne url scheme add as a Custom Command under Advanced dayonepostentry232320from2022title2220by20author0D0A2A2A2A0D0A3E20text              Auto scroll convert
Ive been looking for an EPUB reader that would give me all the options I want for my studies and not be loaded with stuff I dont need This has most everything I want except highlighting and notes I think the way Gerty opens embedded links is awesome None of the other apps compare to Gerty and Ive tried and wasted money on those PLEASE add highlighting and notes to this app and then it will be totally complete                 The best so far
I love this app The design is great the features are ones I use often and the Dropbox integration makes everything so simple Its totally functional out of the box and the one time 4 fee to unlock extra features is a reasonable one                 Great and beautiful
I usually dont bother writing reviews but this is such a great piece of software that I had to comment This auto scroll feature is incredible Its a feature that is essential like a mouse wheel                 A Gem
Marvin is a great app but its users are long waiting for some important missing features Although the developer promised to implement most of them a long time ago he chose to create this new app instead and as a Marvin user I cant hide my frustration Maybe I am wrong but I strongly believe Appstafarian wont be as it hasnt been giving Marvin the attention it deserves     Marvin
As a longtime user of Appstafarians other ePub app Marvin I was shocked at how much I love Gerty even more Its beautifully designed and most importantly the scrolling method for reading is extremely intuitive At first it may seem odd to read a book like a website but after a while you realize its by far they best way It even has autoscroll which is great for people who ride the subway and may not have an extra hand free to turn pages Give this a try                 Excellent ereading app
Update claims there is now a landscape mode available in themes Does not exist Most basic ereading feature out there and it is not able to handle that I foolishly thought landscape mode was one of those features that you had to pay for Wish I hadnt bothered Will be deleting shortly     Will not read in landscape
Version 11 looks and works great on my iPad Mini Many options available to fully meet my customizing needs Definitely top choice for a vertically scrolling eReader                 Worth the wait Looks GREAT On iPad Mini
Great ebook reader                 Love it
I like the app but I couldnt seem to find out how to change the cover of the ebook May I suggest that you give an overview of the hows and whats in the app But other than that its a good and simple app that I would be using for a long time possibly my go to ebook reader              Nice app
So far Im really enjoying Gerty but the lack of an iPad version or at the very least syncing reading position with Marvin on iPad is going to become a problem It does make me question the sense of having two reading apps from the same developer without any real differences in their core use case Im going to give it some time to mature before making a final decision though              Love the simplicity but fragments the experience
Stunning UI You cant move from a particular highlight block in journal back to its original point in book This kills app for researchers Ability to integrate journal with Evernote would be fantastic Ability to filter Dropbox booklist by calibre tags is my holy grail of desired features           Great but one big flaw
I accidentally deleted my great Gerty library and would like to retrieve it out of the Cloud or Dropbox There are no instructions in Help or anywhere This is why I took one star off of the great Gerty How do I retrieve this library in instructions I can understand              Frustrated
Gertie is great for journaled reading AND vertical scrolling If you have an ORA techpub with code samples its GREAT that there is no pagination If you nee the journal its there Personally d like syncing between Gertie and Marvin Sometimes i like Marvins toolset better but dont see the point of bloating Gertie                 Gertie isnt Marvin vice versa
Many of these features arent available until you pay     Bait and switch not really free
Really finely crafted ePub alternative to the builtin iBooks app The integrated reading journal with export to epub3 feature is like nothing Ive seen to date and auto scrolling functionality is very nice as well Free to take for a spin for the curious so check it out and truly the best power user friendly eReader Ive used to date                 Innovative iBooks Alternative
Although I pretty much prefer the developers alternate ereader app Marvin one feature has me coming back to this app and its the customizable auto scrolling feature which is great for reading in bed with minimal fuss no more accidental page turns or iPad in face situations with this new feature                 My new in bed reader
Searching text feature doesnt work when it comes to book in Chinese I will not buy it again not until the bug fixed Thats why Ive reported it to apple support to refund my money spent on IAP And Itll be total excellent that adding Horizontal scrolling and highlights as Im used to record the page instead of the percent of how much Ive read Thanks        Gorgeous interface but
But I have to say this is as close to perfect and intuitive for an ereader that exists in 2015 thus far Looking forward to native iPad support and one small recommendation would be to allow export of journal entries to the Day One app Keep up the great work                 Not a big review writer
UI looks great but it needs more functionality I dont like scrolling and theres not an option for page turning Not worth 399 yet but I bet it can be I still prefer Marvin           Needs more
One question Did someone forget to place a highlighter in the app A vast number of us need to highlight our ebooks Tried it extensively with the same review Im sure that they know by now that users are requesting a highlighter margin control background font selections and page turn selections but it appears without these this app is destined to the mediocre status that it deserve Im personally sticking with real epub and epub 3 readers     ebook researcher
