Cube Synth

In a world full of ios synths this just jumped right to the top OMG amazing I was blown away by Animoog Nave and WaveMapper and thought it could get no better I was wrong                 Off The Charts Mind Blowing

I am a big fan of Addictive Synth and had high hopes for Cube However I find it very hard to use I spent 15 minutes trying to find LFO settings to no avail LFO depth knobs apply a static parameter offset Trying to load analog waveform presets does nothing Very strange experience VirSyn you can do much better           Disappointed

Very deep editing features and great sounding sound Not just another subtractive synth You can program the x y envelopes to make your sounds morph or turn them off and freestyle morph The effects and arp are great as well This would be a great synth in any form but the fact that its on my ipad makes it truly great                 Deep

this synth is very cool i wish there was a way to get microtonal tuning not just semitone differences between the four oscillators still very very cool many excellent sounds in here                 detune

You guts at virsyn are amazingits truly great to work with your software I hope all of your apps make it iOS eventually                 Keep Em coming

To address quibbles straight away this app needs better inapp help to guide users through a complex and sometimes vaguely labeled interface controlling the intricate and partly redundant envelope and modulation functions without losing grip on a sound can be difficult in Cube Similarly though less profoundly the arpeggiation and sequencing controls can confound new users Better labelling of controls in these areas would improve Cube immediately as would moreexplanatory popup layers responding to the help button Maybe a secondary layer of help bubbles could be triggered after the initial simple one offering more guidance on important functions on a given screen That said the complexity of the user interface reflects a remarkable depth of functionality and control to be explored in this app If the user patiently works through the quirks of the interface huge rewards await in sound design Cube allows a wide range of creation and recreation methods and gives inspiring results at the output end These can be piercing gritty stabs or deep evolving grand parts that could be whole compositions within a pad or a lead Oh another complaint I have heard is with the presets It is true some of the presets are not all they could be For me this is no issue presets just serve as examples of synth functions for me but preset players do have a good pseudorandomizer available to recombine those presets into morepleasing patches This being so complaints about the presets seem to me not to have much weight For sound designers and for players who do not shy away from making sounds their own Cube is an impressive piece of work It is easy to get lost for hours trying out different approaches and playing the results The interface issues in VirSyn products are real and they come to roost in their moreambitious synths But the quality of the sound and the creative control available in Cube and Voxel and Tera ensure these issues are far from deal breakers So VirSyn has some refinement yet to do here since Cube can be a bear especially for new users But there is so much that is so good in the app it stands among the slowly growing top class of synth apps in the mobile category                 Cubiste

I will readily confess that I own far more synth apps than I realistically need or use But if I were tasked with actually picking a synth or two to actually create some music Cube Synth or any of the VirSyn synths would be an excellent choice Cube Synth may actually be my least favorite of the now 4 VirSyn products but its still easily a 5star product The great thing about VirSyn apps is that they are friendly to the most obsessive sound designers ever or somebody completely ignorant or trying to learn that wants huge libraries of varied sounds without having to make them from scratch Im probably more in the latter camp The sounds in Cube Synth are rich and powerful Aboslutely love the dice button which randomizes synthesis settings and creates a brand new preset on the spot which you can save if you like it How cool is that The master effects suite is topnotch and best of all the VirSyn apps take up virtually no storage space and work with everything Youll regret some of your app purchases but not this one                 Another entry in VirSyns mustown lineup

I like Virsyns Addictive Synth and AudioReverb and bought this new synth right away Theoretically this should be a great instrument for evolving pads In practice though I found the presets disappointing and there are a lot in the pad category Maybe thats my fault for not taking the time to learn the instrument and program it to my liking And if there were only five other synth apps in the app store I would do that But in my opinion this is something to buy after youve already tried Sunrizer Nave Animoog or Thor You could argue that Cube is ahead of those other synths conceptually Im not sure you would win but you could argue it To my ears though the other synths sound smoother and at the same time more sinewy Im open to changing my mind but for now Im giving it four stars good but not elite They are fixing bugs which is a good sign              Good concept average sounds

Presets are much more organic than your standard subtractive I find this one a bit cumbersome to program and it is difficult to develop patches that dont have that additive buzzy sound to them but Im giving five stars based on the fact that the envelope control is outstanding and totally innovative Also the arpeggiator like the one in Addictive Synth is especially nice                 First Impression Nice

Till it gets Good To Ya Great port of one of my favorite Desktop soft synths Some of the presets are curiously bland a few dice rolls later not so much Cube Synth excels in the are of evolving soundscapes Great for soundtrackinyourmind type stuff and thats before you through it under the AudioBus                 Roll Dem Bones
