The Costa Rica GPS Map is now available for $9.99 for iPhone owners. The application is supporting English language. It weighs in at only 10MB to download. It is highly advisable to have the latest app version installed so that you don`t miss out on the fresh new features and improvements. The current app version 4.3.6 has been released on 2014-11-25. The Apple Store includes a very useful feature that will check if your device and iOS version are both compatible with the app. Most iPhone and iPad are compatible. I bought this app for my iPhone for my trip to Costa Rica instead of downloading the Nuvi map update That was a big mistake The app failed to work from the get go It was able to locate my current position but did not direct me anywhere and would not except any destination Not only did I waste 10 on this app but had to rent a n vi from Avis for 14 days at a rate of 10 a day     Doesn t Work MBmanhattan

The map itself seems pretty detailed has a lot of POIs and good details on road and street info but It has no city labels not even San Jose It s hard to map where you want to go if no cities are listed If that could be fixed it would be worth the money but as is it is useless     No city names Barleyrings

I used this gps app during an 8 day trip where i traveled from san jose to manuel antonio monte verde la fortuna and back to san jose It got me everywhere i needed to go with no problems You dont need to use any data with this app as it downloads all maps to the phone It may not be the best gps but for the traveller on a budget you cant beat the price                 Worked just fine for me tekniq840

I d call this the Yugo of GPS programs Bare bones no frills at all and not particularly user friendly but it will probably get you there This app has no voice commands or aural alerts a very non detailed map and misleading driving instructions for example it will list every bend in a road as an upcoming turn Without any voice you really need a second person to monitor the app for turns or you ll miss them unless you re constantly watching the display Many things I was looking for in the data base weren t there Next time I go to Costa Rica I ll definitely be looking for a better app or just go buy a Garmin with a Central American data base     Bare bones GPS Skip 153

I purchased this app for our trip to Costa Rica and used it to navigate from San Jose to Monteverde From Monteverde we used it again to travel Playa Coyote on the Nicoya Peninsula and back to San Jose I have to say this app worked flawlessly both on my iPone 4S and iPad It s probably worth mentioning the iPad didn t had a GPS chip built in but we plugged in a Bad Elf GPS receiver to it and it performed fine                     Two thumbs up Dr. K*J

I have this installed on my iPhone 5 with IOS6 When navigating the app crashes consistently after a few minutes of tracking A total waste of my money Of course when you restart the app it has no memory of the previous navigation so you have to enter everything again Constantly stopping to do this is annoying and a total waste of time The maps leave a lot to be desired when zooming out the roads disappear Finding out how to enter an address is fun and cities are among the POIs The POI list needs a read through the see any categories you might not have thought of when you were searching for your destination I would like a refund but I don t see me getting one     Waste of money Consistent crashing cockneyusa

We used this for 10 days in Costa Rica It barely works but given the lack of street names and addresses it is better than nothing It crashes that is it turns itself off continually when following a route When it turns on you have to set it up it doesn t remember anything inception recent landmarks The way we used it was that ll I would plot out a route before we left and then use the app to ensure we were on the correct road It usually followed our local ion on the map so gave us confidence that we were headed in the correct direction There is no planning mode so you cannot pick two locations from their list and plot a route There are only icons on the map no words so you can t identify icons along the way except by touching them Must have a second person to make it work They will spend a lot of time restarting the app In San Jose its route may not get you there because of the one way streets but knowing where you are going is helpful Some icons are not exactly at the correct location but being within a block helps a lot When you put a route in and want to zoom out to see the entire route plan to do it a few times since as you zoom it will crash turn off Bottom line it s barely worth the 10 but it did get us where we were going when we worked around its many limitations         Needs a lot of work Hrosenharry

For the city driving the gps was somewhat helpful as San Jose does not have street signs Limited to no coverage outside of the city Would not recommend to someone who had to drive and work this for a few reasons it crashes every 30 minutes or so and you have to reupdate the GPS is constantly telling you to turn and can not tell turns in the road from actual turns therefore it requires constant viewing to watch the route To the credit of this app it did get me from the rental agency to the freeway through the city as well as back to a different hotel It also has surprising accuracy of geographic landmarks such as restaurants and gas stations Recommendations Reduce the price as it is too high for the limitations market as a San Jose specific app not for the country Reprogram to give the turn recommendation only when you actually leave the road you are on Include instructions within the app of how to navigate PS I have iphone 4 and current software If you know your route outside the city this is still more economical than other apps and the rental agency GPS             Slightly Better Than Nothing for San Jose Only CakeySteph

The gist of reviews of prior versions of the app have been Doesn t Work Version 3 is also fundamentally broken I m using an iPhone 3gs In navigation mode the map updates too slowly to be useful often after the turn has been made In bird s eye view mode panning and zooming is almost impossible the map often reverts to the prior view when I try to do either If you have an iPhone 4 it may work a little better but I wouldn t count on it There are two reasons you may still be tempted to use the app First at 20 it s better priced than any other GPS navigation app for Costa Rica Second it s purpose specific for the country which is notorious for lack of addresses and road names Neither is a good reason to buy this app against the advice of this and other reviews If you re headed to Costa Rica for the first time you do want some sort of navigational help but it s not as bad as many make it out to be Here s what I recommend as an alternative 1 Get a good paper map If the route isn t obvious ask someone at a hotel or restaurant to highlight it for you 2 Get an offline maps app and cache the maps for the regions you ll need These apps won t create a route for you but they will tell you exactly where you are and the quality of roads that you ll encounter I ve found both Gaia Lite and Galileo very serviceable and both are free To the developers You have something that could be great You have the map data and a good niche a reasonably priced GPS navigation solution for several more travelled Latin American countries Get the next one right and release it as a new app without all of the baggage of these reviews and you ll hopefully have a hit     Version 3 Still Barely Works Maltese_Cat

I m writing this review from my hotel balcony in mal pais costa rica I made it here with no help from this extremely overpriced app Seriously this thing stinks MAYBE if it cost half as much it might be worth buying this thing if you like things that cost alot and dont do anything My gripes Well lemme tell you It crashes non stop Good times when you re deep in the costa rica back country and are relying on it to guide you thru like a real gps should It went down EVERY 5 minutes and required you to input all your info again upon startup Eventually we just gave up and paid a local on horseback to guide us to the main road For the record it did this in the otel room before we even hit any kind of wilderness so dont let em fool you into believing this thing will work for you Or how about the fact that there is NO INSTRUCTIONS OR SUPPORT INCLUDED Really who sells a 20 app without some kind of instructions page or at least a link to the website where you can find out how to work the product All in all good idea horrible product In the end i m out 20 still in CR and looking at a map just like i was before i bought this garbage     It s overpriced and WON T help you while in costa rica El Wadd
