Chain Timer is the missing chain alarm timer component in the iPhone and iPod Touch. Chain Timer allows you to setup multiple lists of alarm timers where each timer is called after the next one. ...
Just bought this app so I could do runwalk intervals ie run 1 min walk 2 mins etc Looks like it will be perfect One feature request Id like to make you have it set up to loop endlessly it would be great if you could tell it how many times to loop and then give some kind of alarm when youve completed the full cycle andor display a cycle count so I know how many times Ive looped through the chain Going back to my example the program I am doing starts you running 1 min then walking 2 mins cycling through that 12x etc Im sure before I get to 12 Im going to lose count Feature Request
Good app but not great yet Some suggestions for the developers
1 The alarm should be more audible I use the chain timer for cardio boxing and between my music and the sound of me hitting the bag the alarm is really difficult to hear I plug my iphone into external speakers but the alarm on the chain timer doesnt play through the external speakers only the speaker on the iphone which cant come close to matching the volume of my music Knowing that the alarm is hard to hear I tend to keep an eye on it when Im nearing the end of an interval which kind of defeats the purpose of a chain timer The alarm on the timer that comes with the touchiphone is easier to hear because it actually pauses the music when it goes off Maybe the developers could build in an option to mute the music for a couple seconds when the alarm sounds I think this issue really needs to be corrected to make it a great app
2 An incoming phone call should cause the timer to pause not cancel
3 I tend to change my workouts up every couple weeks just to keep things fresh and I add intevals periodically When I add a timer to an existing program it adds it to the end There should be an option to move that new timer up the list so that the user can add an interval somewhere in the middle without having to change everything
On the plus side I really like the copy timer option I really like that I can set a timer for less than a minute theres quite a few alarm sounds to choose from and its pretty easy to add or edit an existing timer I also like that the chain timer runs on top of my music which some apps dont Good not great
while the timer is counting down if i press the back button to view the other timers the active timer resets itself to the initial countdown value if i navigate back to the previously active timer it is restartedstarts counting down from the start and forgets the previous value this is frustrating since it means i can not navigate the app while a timer is activei want to view the other timers to see what i have to do next i have to stay on the timer screen forever or until the countdown completes if i move away from the timer screen it loses track of time which defeats the entire purpose of using this app fortunately this is the only problem i found but i feel this is a major one hence the 2 star rating please fix this 2starsrestarts timer unexpectedly
It took me a few minutes to figure out the interface On most screens Done means well Im done But on the screen where you actually set the timers the button is named Modify instead of Done I expect Modify to take me to a different screen where I can make changes not save the changes I have Plus the rightarrow actually starts the timer Usually that arrow takes you to a settings screen of some sort and clicking on the timer name itself would start the timer I would expect the right arrow to take me to the screen where I make my changes then I click Done haha But once I figured all this out all is well I need to do serious therapeutic stretching and hate counting seconds Its boring enough without having to count like a dope in 30second increments So I will use this a lot and Im hoping it will even help motivate me to do my boring exercises Interface is a bit clumsy but functionality is great
Perfect for walkrun intervals Nice variety of alarm sounds from subtle to very attentiongetting Suggestion turn sound previewing on by default At first I didnt realize you could hear the sounds while browsing the listbut then I noticed the button at the top Exactly the tool I needed
at all Sounds dont work
I am increasing my rating to 5 Stars My first review listed various suggestions to improve the product Well what do you know Just about every suggestion was implemented and the product is much better as a result And one absolutely terrific addition which I did not suggest is the loop option This greatly enhances the program and really makes it easy to program Here is an example of one loop for me Lift for 40 seconds Rest for 15 seconds Just two steps whereas before I would have had over 40 steps And for anyone thinking about it this is a GREAT way to workout It really keeps you on track and your heart rate up there
Kudos to a responsive developer a previously good product now gets 5 stars And this product can be used in many different situations Soccer coaches could use it to remind when to make substitutions teachers can use it for tracking when to switch from one student presentation to another poker tournament players can use it to track levels the potential uses are many
My only other suggestion relates to creating and modifying timers The current can be bit confusing so perhaps some directions built in to the program might help andor some renaming of some buttons And for an example of excellent instructions right in the app see AirSharing I use ChainTimer now every day and could not be more pleased
My previous review follows below
In my I like the application it does its job But I think the following suggestions could greatly enhance the product if implemented
1 a Pause and Resume button for those times when you have to stop and attend to something else briefly
2 the ability to duplicate an entire chain of events For example I have 15 exercises in Workout Regimen 1 and want to create a new Workout Regimen 2 that has all the same exercises but just changes the order somewhat With the current App I would have to reenter ALL the same data for Regimen 2 when all I want to do is just change the order of the data in Regimen 1
3 the ability to duplicate a line item in a chain of events For example say I want to have a Transition or Rest item of 15 seconds between each set of exercises With the current App I have to enter that item over and over again whereas with a duplicate feature I could just duplicate it as many times as I want and then change their order on the list Wow From Good to Great All Suggestions Implemented Now 5 Stars
Great I love it just one minor flaw It resets the timer when you exit the app could you please fix that Thanks Will be good when updated
Its hard 2 figure out My alarms mever went off I thought it was going to be simple and set dif alarms 2 go off at dif times buy deleted application Maybe its just me
no vibrate only good app if you would just add this option Dude
I use it every day for the last year It is awsome for workouts yoga etc Love it
I use this app for timing runwalk intervals Its got easily 4 worth of functionality for all kinds of timing applications and the 20 update allows for background operation Awesome Great app
I love this app It would be great if you could record short audio for use at end of timer Say start the chain of timers and at end of 1st timer instead of just list of audio files have a record where you could record say next run in place then create the next timer where youll run in place etc This would be great and then end of each timer could tell you what to do next Thanks Feature Request
I love everything about the app But I cant hear the alarm and it doesnt repeat So here are my suggestions
1 allow a preview of the alarm including volume
2 allow an option of one notice repeat give alarm sleep x seconds repeat or continuious keep alarming until acknowledged
One more thing maybe I just missed it but it would be nice to set the time on the initial setup of a new alarm When I did it it was set at 10 minutes and I had to go back and edit it to change the time Great app but needs some audio help
Have been using this for timing soccer games Works great Great app
Does everything I need it too and does it well Great for timed figure life drawing I made a 2 chain timer 15 seconds for drawing 7 seconds to cue up for the next drawing It loops until I stop it I plan to make chain timers for different length drawings 30 sec 1 min 5 min even 20 minutes It works really well on my 1st gen Touch Uses the built in simple sounds if you dont have it docked or dont have headphones plugged in Great app Thanks so much for making a timer for 1st gen Touch users Perfect for art
If you wanna do something else with your iPhone rather than staring at ticking clock while the timer is running this app is not for you It absolutely doesnt support backgrounding and even with Backgrounder enabled timer stops and resets as soon as app is quitted There are much better tools out there for similar price useless for multitasking
