On sale for a limited time at launch Castro is a revolutionary podcast client that`s smart, graceful, and designed exclusively for iOS 7. "Podcasting apps are so tough to get right. I ve tried them all, and ...
I wasnt a big consumer of podcasts before I tried Castro And then it was like somebody had unlocked the door Its intuitive and beautiful fun to use Everything is right where you think it is There should be a name for this phenomenon the app thats so good it alters the way you use the Internet Castros one of those for me                 Whats that thing called when you
My favorite podcast app by far 4 and a half stars because there is no recently played playlist Everything else is on point though              The best
Im looking for an Instacast alternative because their parent company shut down fairly recently Ive downloaded 5 paid podcast apps Downcast Pocket Casts Castro Podcruncher and Overcast and still cant find one as good as Instacast I WANT to love Overcast but lack of streaming and being unable to organize episodes that Ive listened to upon importing them and separate them from episodes that I have not yet downloaded is a huge deal breaker Yes the app is pretty But it cant do basic functions that allow you to determine what you have listened to or not listened to Not to mention you can only download episodes and not stream them With more features Overcast would absolutely be the best podcast app around like everyone online is saying right now But as of right now it doesnt function for me as a podcast manager Not at all Pocket Casts and Downcast and Podcruncher work okay but have some interface quirks check out the version history for each app in the App Store to see how often the apps has been updated and maintained Podcruncher hasnt been touched in like a year At least all those actually manage podcasts unlike Overcast Castro was also too limited in functionality and didnt work well for me because of that But it did look nice They have apparently been working on Castro 2 for like six months now Summary Downcast and Pocket Casts are worth a try now Overcast is also worth a try but is so limited even after purchasing the upgrade of premium features Podcruncher is somewhat out of date cant swipe left side of screen to return to previous screen Castro is okay but limited Wait for Castro 2        Interface too limited Pretty tho
Design isnt only how it looks but how it works and Castro is the bestdesigned app on my phone                 Best Design
After the news of my favorite podcast app Instacast being discontinued it was time to try and find something offering the features I use most Ill say this app is really awesome clean and simple interface I like how there are only 2 views podcasts youre subscribed to and your current episodes automatically grouped into a playlist I actually prefer this over the way it was displayed in Instacast The main selling point on Instacast for me was bookmarking I listen to a lot of music podcasts and I like to bookmark new songs I like so I can come back to them Seeing that no one else offers it for now Im willing to concede that functionality for just a screenshot or copy from the podcast notes But the one feature I grew to love and dont think Ill find until I buy every podcast app is chapter support and coinciding changing album art for each chapter Instead of telling me the podcast name and episode name Id much prefer to know the chapter name This was one feature I didnt realize I appreciated until I didnt have it anymore Now I have to open up the app to see what chapter Im at instead of it being there on the lock screen Thats why I deducted a star I know they are working on v2 and well see if that functionality is added But everything else about the app I love I just hope a new app isnt released for v2 and I have to pay again because that wont happen              Excellent app just needs one more feature
Castro is a great podcast app Its extremely well done It has almost everything I want and nothing I dont Its intuitive to use and beautifully designed Only missing two things in my opinion An option to set the number of episodes to keep Some sort of backupsync All in all Castro is a great app Highly recommended                 Beautiful
Love this app It work great seems faster great quality I dont know how I used Apples Podcast App for the last two years I had a question and got a working answer within minutes Very impressive As soon as I removed my old podcast application most of my system hang up issues went away Perhaps the best 400 I have spent in years                 Wow Great App
Just switched to this after years with Instacast and after trying Network This one is the best Very simple with all the functionality I need It could use the ability to long press on an episode to play it Thats about my only request And the developer is a classy dude                 Better than Network and Instacast
Castro is a fantastic podcasting app and it keeps getting better                 Great App
Doesnt work with Slate Plus very well but otherwise the best podcast app out there              Poor support
I can finally stand to listen to podcasts faster than 1x                 Great fastplay sound
Topnotch in every way Highly recommended                 My Favorite Podcast App
I bought nearly every major podcasts app in the App Store This one is the one i keep using Its Gestures and beautiful UI are so awesome Looking forward to castro 20                 My favorite
Havent tried all the podcast apps but this one is dope Love the settings too They made some UI choices that might confuse some users but I like it a hellalot It took me a while to warm up to the episodes tab but I really like that section a lot now                 Favorite Podcast App
Ive been a long time user of first downcasts then pocketcasts each for a couple years Both are great and have more bells and whistles But Castro manages podcasts exactly how I like out of the box It checks for new episodes using background refreshes and downloads them automatically So when I open it in the morning the days podcasts are already lined up Even if they havent all downloaded yet Castro will just stream them seamlessly Unlistened podcasts are put into a simple queue like an inbox It doesnt do playlists but I only ever wanted one playlist unlistened The new continuous play mode just keeps rolling through the new episodes I listen in the car so its great that even if a new episode comes in while Im listening itll be tacked on to the playlist Also love how it visually indicates the episode coming next The fast play processing really is effective and a differentiator Even at the fastest speed the speech is distinctly more comprehensible than other apps Its the first podcast app for which I really have no further items on my wish list Great app                 Perfect I think
After months of use Id love the app to use the system font and back buttons Except that its a beauty              Good job
I like listening to some podcasts over and over Quit deleting my podcast every time I listen to it and making me have to re download it Also would like the option to have playlists        Listen
This app is such a joy to use and performs so well that Id recommend it to anyone who listens to lots if podcasts Simple intuitive gestures to quickly navigate through the app make it an absolute delight                 Such a polished app
There is Pocket Cast Downcast that holds the two top spots for Podcasts apps While Castro has to take over the left overs between the two Im a long time user of Pocket Casts Ive dabbled in Downcast But I like Castro I think they designed a great app But the fact theres no iCloud sync or any syncing period and no iPad app Is a downer I tried to look past it give it a chance because I want to see them succeed I think Downcast is just a mess of an app But cant really knock it due to how much features it has Castro needs to work on its syncing capabilities creating an iPad app Rooting for this app           Rooting for it
One of the best podcast apps available                 Very Smooth
Sure looks better than other clunky podcast apps plus is much faster in search for new podcasts Its easy to subscribe and unsubscribe Very little help on line or on the internet I still dont know how the default settings work For those of us that did not design the app why should we have to guess On one phone it indicated my app was using 4 or 5 gigs No way to see which podcasts were downloaded had to delete the entire app and restart Its really worth the though if your into podcasts and want a simple way to learn what podcasts match your interests              Great overall
Great sleek design Does everything I want my podcast app to do And good support too                 Nicely designed
When overhyped new podcast apps debut I immediately buy and try them Within a few days I inevitably come back to Castro Castro is for my needs podcast perfection I have 24 subscriptions and probably listen to 12 hours of shows per week Ive been heavily into podcasts since 2007 or so ht Five Hundy By Midnight and Onion Radio News Two of my earliest favorites Anyway Castros notifications fire reliably episodes download quickly and this app does everything beautifully The typography is stunning and the settings changes introduced in ver 11 made this my daily driver Early on I was annoyed by the circlecropped show art but the 11 update even addressed thatmaking some tweaks that solved all annoyances If you want to fiddle with settings and work to make a podcatcher ideal go buy one of the hyped apps If you want simplicity with reasonable flexibility and bulletproof functionality buy Castro today                 Podcast Perfection
Top app clean and simple Would really love a podcast index an on screen AirPlay toggle would be good too rather than the system wide settings panel Also the ability to make the text smaller in the main window to save on scrolling              Solid needs a new release
I think Ive tried them all and decided about a year ago to just use Castro Like the way it updates and all of the features                 My fav podcasting app
Nice interface Easy to use This is a great little app but it does have a couple of little issues I want to keep the 5 most recent episodes of a podcast and not just the latest episode The Color difference from downloaded episodes to new episodes and old episodes is confusing I am sure at some point these little things will be fixed and the app will then be perfect              Way better than the built in podcast app
Definitely the best podcast app ever Makes it simple to find new episodes store or stream them and delete them once youve listened Also beautiful looking                 The best
Great app awesome UI All the features youd want without extra stuff that slows you down or ruins your experience Been using it since it first came out and the steadily make it better and better                 Great podcasting app
It totally doesnt work when play the list on Notification              Notification
Very happy with my purchase of Castro The UI is beautiful and the use of swiping to navigate throughout the app is smooth and enjoyable I especially like the fact that I can set either global or individual settings for auto or manually downloading podcast episodes This is something I hated when I tried Overcast Overcast would automatically download every new episode with no options to do it manually This is very annoying when you have podcast subscriptions where you dont necessarily want to listen to every new episode With Castro I can pick and choose how this goes A couple things Id like to see 1 Ability to save settingssubscriptions just in case you need to delete and reinstall the app 2 Notification badges 3 Better search and suggestions The search is quick but could use an easier way for new podcast discovery                 Very nice
This app is really well designed Works great                 Really nice
Castros been my favorite podcast app since its first day gorgeous and its so easy to use that anybody will love it Flawless execution on a wonderful design                 Best podcasting app out there
Like some of the other reviewers I listen to a lot of podcasts and have purchased most ever iOS podcast client I keep coming back to Castro Its beautiful functional and a pleasure to use While I enjoy Overcasts smart speed feature and the idea of saving time while listening to podcasts I land back at Castro because its a pleasure to use The UI is a delight Plus I sample so many podcasts that Castros streamingwhich isnt an option in Overcastis a preferred solution for me                 Delightful Design
I looked for an alternative to the Apple podcast app due to its annoying habit of downloading every episode to every device in the house Ive been using Castro for a while and I love its simple beautiful interface The Episodes tab lists all unplayed podcasts in a blogstyle chronological column making it easy to find the most recent episodes and see exactly what Ive got stacked up                 Simple attractive podcast app
First of all this is a beautifully designed app Its probably the best looking of all podcast apps and I think Ive bought them all Im considering switching from Overcast to Castro but there are a few missing features Castro needs to add to make it a true 5 star app Heres whats sorely missing 1 Let us sort our podcasts however we choose Forcing us to only see them in alphabetical order is just dumb I could care less about all my podcasts being in alphabetical order I want to drag them around and put my favorites near the top This is a standard feature in all other apps Ive tried I cant imagine why the developer wont let us do this in Castro 2 Allow us to override the global setting of what to do when an episode ends There are some podcasts I never want to automatically go on to the next episode but there are other podcasts that I always want it to automatically move on to the next episode lectures etc If you let us choose custom speed settings per podcast why not this feature too 3 Speaking of speed settings the tortoise and rabbit icons are fine we get it but when we drag the slider you need to show us what speed setting were actually choosing Right now we have absolutely no idea if the setting were choosing is normal playback 15x speed 20x etc Its all just trialanderror at the moment Eliminate the guesswork and show us as we move the slider what setting were on 4 There really needs to be a way for us to a mark episodes as favorites and b know which episodes weve already listened to completely As it stands now when we finish listening to an episode in Castro it goes back into the list with all the zillions of other episodes which is fine but if we ever need to dig back through old episodes and catch up on ones we might have missed there is absolutely no way of knowing which ones weve listened to and which ones we havent All I can say is I hope youve got a really good memory If the developer adds these features Ill rewrite my review and give it 5 stars because then it will really deserve it           So close but not quite there
lets just start out with the obvious this is definitely the sleekest interface if you just want to listen to the latest podcast this is for you however this app lacks tons of features it does not have the ability to removedelete a podcast off a list no playlist also it automatically marks all old podcasts as listened thats an assumption plus its the screentext is very bloated hard to get a lot of information with 1 glance     pretty but lacks many features
Love the attention to detail in this app Its the easiest to use app and the best looking It may not have the bells and whistles of some of the others out there but every time I go back to more simple apps for my tasks I realize how much better they are to use                 Great Podcast App
This is definitely the cleanest and most uncluttered podcast app Ive ever used One thing Id really love to see added to its design would be a simple playlist or a simple way to mark an episode to listen to later I dont think that implementing this functionality would take away from the minimalist design approach and user experience I listen to podcasts while I work and dont have the time to search through podcasts to select something to listen to If on my off work hours I could mark a podcast to listen to later it would make this app absolutely perfect Thank you developers                 Fantastic podcast player
Castro is the podcast app that Apple should have made It has a very clean look its intuitive and its easy to use A darker mode would be nice to have but otherwise I wouldnt change a thing                 The best
I dont need a thousand bells and whistles so apps like downcast or overcast just seemed too busy to me This is an app that lets you subscribe to podcasts and then listen to those podcasts which is all people like me really need However this app is not without some helpful tools such as a sleep timer and an option to choose what speed you would like to listen at both of which can come in handy sometimes With a beautiful user interface and a lot of simplicity this has become my podcatcher of choice PS If you have not ventured outside of the native podcast app I would recommend it Maybe you dont necessarily need to pick Castro but just about anything is better than the native app                 A simple app for a simple listener
Theres so little love about this app What I mean by that is the Castro is beautifully designed and only the most necessary interface components are included Theres no clutter superfluous content or controls I would even go so far as to say that Castro has been instrumental in reviving my interest in listening to podcasts on a regular basis                 Quickly Became My Favorite Podcast App
Tried several player apps free and paid but kept coming back to Castro The only one that came close was Overcast but I just deleted it and wont look back Came back to Castro for good and am looking forward to 20 Great job                 Best of the best podcast players
I love the timeline style episode view that Castro offers and the design is topnotch too Love me some Castro                 The best allaround podcast app
I never write reviews but this app is too good not to review I use it daily Awesome design It makes podcasts a lot easier to follow and keep up with Pretty much perfection Thanks for making it                 Best Podcast App Available
Clean minimalist app I only use it for a specific category of pocasts so it works for me              Nice simple UI
I listen to about 510 hours of podcasts a week and have been for years This app is so simple it lets me get in and out of it so I can keep using my phone I dont need heavy organizational features or playlists or any of the other features that other apps have to offer What this app does have is an incredibly simple and elegant design I love Castro its one of my favorite apps ever because it does exactly what I want and nothing more I would pay a lot more than its selling for which ought to be endorsement enough                 My favorite podcast app
I find it amazing that this app has received such high praise when in fact it lacks fundamental features such as iCloud sync and badge notifications Its not that I find it difficult to readd my podcasts every time the app is downloaded but I would expect the developer of a paid app to provide these features especially this far into the product life cycle        Great UI but lacks fundamental features
No idea why the application is doing it Latest version Just randomly starts skipping forward 30 seconds every minute and wont stop Have to quit the app to make it work again Loved it when it didnt do that but useless now           Randomly skips 30 seconds forward
A premium price for an iPhone only app iOS moved on to iPads apple watch many moons ago Time for app devs to come to the present and develop apps that work across the iOS platform It is frustrating to say the least that the interface is way behind the times I feel sad when I see a 1x or 2x circle on my iPad with a huge portrait only screen Ugh It is as if the devs rushed to publish without spending time developing their app And it is still the same many iterations since the first Smh        Not for iPad Facepalm
This app restarts my iPhone     Scary
