I began using byword last year to jot down writing ideas I would sometimes write articles or different things i wanted to work on A few months ago i logged on and all my work disappeared Emailed to ask if there was some kind of update and have received no response There are other ways to jot down notes     Worse app LaOa
I took a leap of faith on this app a few years ago and it was worth every penny The best feature is the synchronization between different devices If you are looking for something decent to help with your writing buy it                     The Best for Writing Fugygfyggfygfc
Byword is my go to distraction free writing app on the Mac and I used it on iOS for a while but unfortunately the slow Dropbox syncing led me to explore other solutions for iOS It seems like updates this year might have fixed this so hopefully it s better now I had Byword configured for a Dropbox folder that I use for journal entries and it has a couple hundred markdown files in it plus two sub folders with some text markdown and a couple of old rtf rich text files in them When I opened up Byword it would hang on Downloading items or Syncing Items for minutes and it made me nervous to open recent files and create possible conflicts in my Dropbox That was a big blocker when I just wanted to open the app and start writing I recently reinstalled the app and also removed the rtf files from this Dropbox folder just in case and things seem to be better fingers crossed             Great Mac App pretty good iOS app bikemike
The product is ok but randomly creates duplicate folders of already existing folders Ha done this since I got the app Stahl years ago I m afraid to delete the duplicates because it might delete what s in the remaining folder Informed developer and hoped for a fix but it hasn t happened Also it world be nice if device searches included results from Byword Also would like to set the sort order per folder rather than have a single setting that sorts all folders the same way             Ok but has annoying duplicate folders Elliott-C
Out of all the markdown and note taking apps that I ve tried this one was the best                     Pretty much the best Ghghihfdfhuyg
Says it supports tables but there is no way to make a table So sad Why did I buy this     No way to make tables darkgoob
I absolutely love Byword I am a fairly prolific blogger and post on numerous sites Byword makes it so much easier and faster to do my thing I also love that I can write a few words leave the app on one device and come back to it on another without missing a beat Highly recommend this app                     Don t Know What I Did Without It Dolce’s Mom
Such an elegant and simple markdown authoring tool and with great syncing support with several cloud providers The Mac OS app clinches it                     Solid writing and syncing Scott Wiersdorf
I ve been using this app for a few years solid now and it s been fantastic With a recent update the Dropbox syncing temporarily stopped working and I reached out to the dev Jorge responded immediately and noted that a fix will be released shortly This is that fix Thank you Jorge                     Still Going Strong ethereale
Great writing app For me the only thing it needs is the ability to print to pdf in dark mode                 Almost there Not a 1
Saved a file on my computer and it s not updating in the app     Not syncing mattCaps
I love the ability to use it across platforms                     Great program RuDupe
I got a new iPad and was so excited to finally ditch my laptop and do all of my blogging with the iPad Byword is an essential part of this set up I ve used it in the past and had it set up on my old iPad but I can t get this new installation to publish to WordPress The developer seems pretty attentive on here so I m hopeful about getting my problem resolved quickly                 Love it but it won t publish to WordPress The Connected Knitter
It didn t work for me How do I go about getting my money back Thanks     Money back AshleyyMaarie
I use Byword daily for intensive writing It always functions well and I ve never had a problem with syncing Support continues to improve If I could only have one app it would most likely be Byword                     Premier writing app True Vine Life
Update After communicating with the developer my issue of blank exports has been explained It s a symptom of Markdown vs programming issues bugs It s nice to have a developer that interacts with his customers The app overall is great and I like how easy it is to create lists and add emphasis Is use it for note taking that I can save as PDFs and go look at later However this version seems to be exporting blank documents I m looking forward to a fix Keep up the good work                     Great for notes Peaviner
Love the PDF export                     Simple and elegant Collin Luke
I ve tried restarts reinstalls and everything else under the sun to make this thing work and all it does is crash on launch I m glad the 6 wasted on this stopped me from buying its more expensive OS X counterpart     Crash crash crash Mooshoes
App requires you to swipe up at a weird angel to reveal the 3 dots then you can click that to show where the markdown preview button is This is very annoying Also the app doesn t have any shortcuts to do the markdown preview which is very annoying since you already have a multi step process to render your HTML Lastly the app doesn t recognize the header which to me felt like a trivial thing to support as it is a h3 tag         Hidden preview button and no shortcuts Angelr91
Byword is simply amazing It is the best text editor for IOS with the perfect combination of features and simplicity It has changed my whole writing process making it easier so now I write more Can t recommend enough                     Amazing App Georgedpr
I ve tried dozens of text editors but Byword is hands down the easiest one to use especially if you want to use it to work with Scrivener files Until Scrivener has an iPad app the only way you can work with a Scrivener project on a mobile device today is to export the project as a set of text files and sync via Dropbox It s not pretty But Byword not only handles that screwy workflow but does it with aplomb and makes taking Scrivener mobile possible It s great even if you don t want to work Scrivener too                     Best text editor Rickzilla
Syncs well between Mac and iOS devices Can use Cloud or Dropbox It s a great place from start to publish Really like the interface                     My Main Writing Tool ToddPDX
You cannot open markdown files that already exist in your dropbox folder You can only create new files Big waste of money if you want to edit existing files actually this totally defeats the purpose and utility of markdown files ease of moving between editing applications     no true dropbox integration Rhenish
2016 tried reinstalling again after a year break I still like the way Byword works it s clean and simple But Dropbox sync is still buggy I m getting conflicts and endless spinning wheels Uninstalled try again later 2014 Used to be a good app Needs an update Dropbox sync which is essential isn t reliable             Needs iOS 9 update jg6464
Byword is a clean simple markdown plaintext editor There are a couple small bugs like how tapping at the bottom of a scrollable note to bring up the keyboard puts the cursor in the wrong spot But the biggest issue I have is with the lack of recursive search Searching only looks in the current folder but not subfolders making it a time consuming process to find anything if you organize by folders For such a central function this is a big limitation         Promising but a few major flaws Squidouche
I changed this review to reflect that the instant crash I suffered when I enabled cellular data sync to Dropbox went away when I deleted and reinstalled the app I enjoy Byword quite a lot It s a no frills Markdown editor that works well and it s great to have such an app when you don t feel like dealing with something more powerful Four stars only because I find the sync to be a little wonky thus far Otherwise it s smooth and does the job well                 Simple and Solid firstone30
Within 15 min of installing sync to DropBox begins to hang and crash after inserting code blocks into markdown Not good     Hangs and crashes frequently JHrgrv
Fails to open iCloud files larger than 1mb Crashes every time on both wifi and cellular Using iPad Air 2 on latest iOS     Broken Vulgar demos
This is a great tool for blogging and journaling The app is simple supports markdown has preview and supports textpad snippets It also has flexible export options for sharing with a variety of other apps The solid cloud sync support lets you access your notes from any ios device I like how it doesn t feel bloated at all with a minimalist interface                     Solid Text Editor TheeeGooch
Please read before purchasing I own Byword desktop Mac OsX version and I have been using this app for professional writing since years now I am currently abroad and I needed to be able to access my documents on my iPad Pro and I decided to buy the pricy 6 iOS version of the app Later I discovered that none of my documents appear in the iCloud folder and the reason is quite irritating On Byword website they state that they are still evaluating if investing money to allow Rich Text docs to be open in the iOS version while suggesting and promoting the use of simple text To have my documents while away from home I did not hesitate to invest Menes in your overpriced iOS version of an app that i already own This is a cheap and unprofessional move and it will cost customers more than it would have cost to offer the see less functions between two payed versions of the same app     Attention 6 to have no iCloud Synch JesusHigh
I was really in love with this app until I realized there is no passcode or Touch ID option Privacy is a big part of why I use these apps for my writing If I am missing something let me know It is a significant oversight             No password protection am i taking crazy pills!!
It s the best of everything I ve tried It s rock solid and a great companion to the Mac and iPad apps Very worth the price                     Love it Stoju
Do you think you can add a trash can Incase you accidentally deleted a work and you can retrieve back                     Great app SsjGohan566
I originally picked Byword up for some edits to a markdown document I was working on Soon it became my go to editor whether I am using it for writing a post a README or an action plan Today I was hunting around for a fountain editor for my iPhone and remembered that it was just markdown Opened the file in Byword and off to the races again You will keep finding uses for it                     I keep finding new uses for Byword DavidAL
I have had several occasions when iCloud either won t sync or loses my document while using Byword I hope the developer fixes this soon because it is an otherwise very good text editor             iCloud sync issues Yi Lin
The basics of this application are pretty great and it is a great markdown editor I wish it had better support for document providers though             Pretty great Abhimat
You are smart You are strong And you have work to do And youre gonna do it with this app Why Because this app is great and if you use it good things will happen to you Trust me I own the Mac app I own this app If I had an iPad Id use this app there as well Byword is the best app for writing stuff if you dont need a crazy complicated thing with buttons and levers and sundials If you need that stuff use Pages If you need more stuff then what Pages had I mean use Word I guess                 Hey you reading this review
First may I say to the devs THANK YOU for making the app FAST I truly appreciate it Efficient just what a writer needs BTDT with Writing Kit Editorial Pages some others Byword has everything I need Ease of writing then I export html straight to Wordpress I decided today I may also use Byword to store my notes BTDT wEvernote Noteability and several others I use it on my laptop too                 Good intuitive clean fast stable The one to buy
The best markdown writer on any platform keeps getting better and better Thanks guys                 Wow
Best interface I have found so far for editing previewing and sharing Markdown and MultiMarkdown documents Drop Box integration works great              My favorite in iOS
I love Byword The interface is clean and easy to use Parses markdown beautifully while you type Its so easy to read and feels so nice I love it I dont write a whole lot of articles but when I do write one it takes me a while So I like to take my work offline while I flesh out my thoughts Markdown and Byword allow me to do that wonderfully Then it syncs back to Dropbox where I can publish to Ghost blog Feature request the only thing I would change is that there should be a Markdown cheat sheet I sometimes forget some of the markdown syntax It would be nice to get a quick cheat sheet right in the app instead of opening a browser That way I could truly be offline                 An amazing simple and clean markdown app
Microsoft word what Oh how I dislike ms word I love the writing experience with byword I write an email each day to my list And its usually done using byword on my iPhone 6 plus Go figure If you would have asked me if Id be writing emails on my iPhone I would have laughed But I do I also use byword on my Macintosh                 Love this app I use it everyday
My Byword app lives on my 2nd generation iPad and does precisely what I require opens to a blank page in a snap for notetaking outside of the office saves and dates the notes even if I forget to name them and makes it easy to email the notes to myself when the interview is over Ive never learned Markdown though I still plan to and have had little trouble doing what I need to do Its always been stable Nice app                 no problems
Simple interface and an enjoyable experience when writing something longer than a simple note Love the Dropbox integration              Great writing app
I have tried other markdown apps but keep coming back to Byword for its simplicity and robustness One thing that I would note is that it is a little fiddly for getting image to link correctly vs images in my camera roll but with a little googling there are some fixes                 Goto app for markdown on my ipad
this is my goto app when writing on my ipad I have had some issues with exporting documents to email              great app
Typing in ByWord is fabulous and the automatic backup feature keeps all my projects in easy reach Ive only ever suffered one glitch and it was due to spotty wifi connectivity resulting in a document not backing up properly but the app spotted the error and helped me remedy it I write daily on this a thousand words a day and it is easily my favorite way to write                 Wonderful
Works acceptably for Dropbox but freezes crashes displays junk info duplicates of filesfolders etc and loses data with iCloud Drive Also is pretentious about its minimalism mistaking clutter with a reasonable set of features The latter does not imply the former but Byword simply substitutes a fashionably Spartan but highly limited interface for a richly featured and functional one that could still be as clean looking Overall a major disappointment     Nonfunctional with iCloud Drive
I really liked the simplicity and elegance of Byword However on sizable files 50k words the Dropbox integration would crash Byword on my IPad Air 2 This forced me to switch to another Markdown editor           Dropbox integration crashes often
It is surprised that this App always crash in my 55s with IOS 8 Crazy     Always crash in my iPhone 55s
Needs shining up A few little puddly little details here and there But relax We havent seen the whole app yet              Great app
Byword used to be great I even bought the addon Lately its infrequently updated and when it is updated like the latest update its more likely to not work as well as before In the latest update external keyboard navigation ie pressing things like COMMANDdownarrow to go down to end of document dont work They used to work flawlessly but not anymore Contacting the developer about this didnt help in any way There was no response whereas before the developer responded right away The last straw is that the current version is unstable I literally just lost 100 words I just wrote because Byword crashed In fact I was searching for markdown editor in the app store and Byword was the first selection and this prompted me to write a review It saddens me that things have gone downhill with Byword It reflects poorly on the developer and it definitely discourages me from purchasing any new apps Message to the developer If youre going to stop supporting an app then have the balls to be upfront about it rather than take the app and your users on a slow ride to uselessness     Used to be good crappy now
Reinstalled the app but it opens to a blank screen on launch No buttons no settings Cant even see any settings for Byword in settingsapp Same thing happens on my retina iPad mini and iPhone 6 Plus     App opens to a blank screen
Very good                 Great app
Having tried the 811 beta this app works splendidly with handoff extensions and iCloud Drive Im thrilled with this update Great job                 iCloud slowness is the result of iOS 81
Why would you get any other app A consistent experience when writing markdown on your Mac iPad or iPhone Of course I trybuy almost all apps for writing markdown as soon as they come out and they cant compare                 Why
While I am still learning how to use markdown and this app is great and all it doesnt upload images from my phone to my blogger account I ended up figuring out how to link to a remote image with my imgur account Other than that great job              Great but not perfect
This app is easy to use markdown which is why I downloaded it I wish that it would support OneDrive in the future I wish it would let me pick more fonts as I have a favorite typeface I spent money on It would also be neat to support git as a version control system                 Love it Needs OneDrive and more Fonts
good for focusing on writing and best Ive found for markdown Please consider adding 1 search text within a file and highlight matches with nextprev support I have a long document and need to find matching words would also help me start editingwriting where Id like 2 typewriter mode like suggested by other reviewer 3 sepia background option and additional font options 4 ability to set writingword goals and see progress while typing andor when check insave file 5 ability to add comments to select text block hidden in preview and when published 6 user option to continue where left off when reopen app 7 add Box and OneDrive native like current iCloud and Dropbox support              Helps me focus needs update
I like this app a lot the only thing thats missing for me is password protection Im probably not the only one that wants a little privacy in their writing please think about this              Password protection please
The best of all markdown iOS editors The only thing it needs is SEARCH a vital text editing function Please add              The best
I love the syncing between the iPad and Mac versions but it really needs an inapp web browser like 1writer has 1Writers web browser makes multitasting much easier Im a writer and need to go back and forth between writing and looking up info online I find myself using Byword on my Mac but needing to use 1writer on my iPad for this reason           Needs a real inapp browser
Great App on iOS and MAC Fast cloud Sync Great Markdown and MathJax support Supports TextExpander but not fill in Snippets yet                 One of the Must Haves
I use Byword on my Mac and love it but this is a disappointment The lack of RTF support means I cant view or edit many of my older documents from OSX I bought this thinking it would work seamlessly with my existing Byword docs but it doesnt even see them I dont want to change all my files over to Markdown Had I known this iOS version wasnt fully compatible within else version Id have saved myself some money        solid but not a good value
Anyone who wants their iPad to work as a functioning word processor would be advised to looking at Byword This solid little text editor and markdown maverick has been my go to program for a very long time My iPad has just about every word processor and text editor available but Byword is inevitably the one that I use when I need to get the job done with the least amount of distractions and effort Believe me you cant go wrong with this incredible little app                 Solid and dependable
If you write in markdown and use an iPhone this app is a no brainier From the beautiful design and elegant aesthetic to the powerful options for storing exporting and publishing your writing you just cant find a better app for writers on the iPhone                 A markdown must have
This app has had major stability issues for well over a year now Leaving the app momentarily and coming back is practically guaranteeing that it will crash and cold startup times are inexcusably long Used to be a big supporter of this app but Im sick of the developers dragging their feet over its major issues There are better options out there     Lots of potential squandered by incompetent development
Perfect integration with Dropbox Wonderful app design Quick Use this instead of the built in notes Only con the app icon isnt great                 Best Note AppWriter
5 stars for being a decent ios text editor that supports the iPhone 6 Hard to believe that I have yet to find another text editor that actually makes use of all the resolution and screen real estate I have Next wish always restore me to the same file same scroll point when I relaunch the app                 iPhone 6 Plus support
But iCloud Drive sync takes literally hours with ios 81 Ridiculous Dropbox sync is lightning fast        Perhaps not its fault
Like many of you Ive tried several writing apps but keep coming back to Byword I love being able to start an article on the iPhone and finishing it up on either the iPad or the Mac Export options are also terrific I agree with a previous review about adding a search Still great app                 Great features and a clean UI
Opening creating and editing text files on every device and seamless syncing make this an incredibly useful app                 Welldesigned fast and useful
First of all No Google Drive support Secondly not many UI graphic tailoring settings Also the overall look and feel is not so solid This is a text editor Its not a difficult app to make amazing This is not amazing It feels like Im typing in Windows 98        Not so polished
All functions work as advertised Easy to use UI Ive never seen this app crash                 Its a text editor
GitHub Flavored Markdown support would be amazing Please add support for this I would pay for it as an IAP              Great but missing 1 thing
Simple elegant and always ready And all the power I need markdown across all my platforms Mac iPad and iPhone Byword has become my goto writing environment                 Fabulous writing environment
Ive always used Byword on my Mac and the experience is very similar The only downside is it has a habit of crashing after locking my iPad Mini 2 running iOS 81 The autosave keeps things going smoothly for the most part but minor edits might be dropped after a crash           Great but tends to crash
This is an essential app if you want to write on iOS I love the dark mode for writing in the evening or at night in low light situations iCloud and Dropbox storage rocks publish to Evernote is killer even if just as a backup mechanism I will say that I would like the typewriter mode that keeps the current line centered The Mac app has it                 Wonderful
My favorite feature in the desktop app is the exceedingly useful typewriter mode Why isnt this a feature on the iOS version I was strongly disappointed to realize it was missing the basic reason why I got the app in the first place           Typewriter mode
I got Byword simply for posting articles and HOWTO docs to blogger Its simple markup and publishing feature drew me in After learning the markdown syntax I found it extremely easy to create the level of documentation I needed that is formatted in a shareable way This alone makes this tool worth it It works the same in iOS and OS X too Both versions are excellent However there is more I use Evernote which has a terrible note formatting interface To make something beautiful requires to many clicks and it lacks the shortcuts you find in other tools like OneNote Since Byword is very format and beauty oriented I can take my notes using Byword and then I send it to Evernote as my note DB This is a very good workflow because these kinds of notes can be drafted using Byword and then published to Evernote when completed I also like the markdown format I have found plugins for Firefox that can readrender these kinds of files I suggest getting this as a multiuse note taking and blogging tool                 Byword Is an Outstanding Documentation and Blogging Tool
Ive been using Byword on Mac and iOS for several years now and it is consistently polished elegant and stable It is by far my favorite pure writing app for use with Markdown and its preview and export functionality are just as excellent as its writing experience The developers do not rush out their updates sometimes delivering them a good bit behind an OS update so that when they do arrive they are solidsee for example the integration of publishing features or the new iCloud Drive support Highly recommended                 Gorgeous usable and solid
This app is completely useless Crashes constantly Dont believe these fake praises Im looking for an alternative to this     Crash crash crash
I really used to love Byword the iOS app as well as the Mac app The recent versions however have been horribly unstable and unusable for syncing files I have had files vanish on me being duplicated showing up one one device but not the other overall it makes working with Byword a real pain which is very sad since I like the distractionfree interface So the 1star is not an Ihateit but more a unusable If it worked stable I would go back to using it in an instant but right now it frustrates me more than I have fun using it so I wont     Used to be a great app
Wonderful for taking notes in markdown Easy to use and just gets out of your way Syncs nicely with the Mac and iOS version                 Great text note taker
I ride the bus a lot so I often start blogs on my commute When I get to to the office I can easily open the desktop app and it is already synced where I left off There are very few options to distract from writing which is great                 Keeps me synced flawlessly
This is a beautiful app to be sure but there is one functionality that I am disappointed to see hasnt made it to the mobile version yet typewriter mode It is more ergonomic to watch a fixed point on the screen than to follow the cursor through the page As I tend to write in long stretches I end up watching the bottom of the screen the whole time rather than a more comfortable point higher on the page Other than that Byword is definitely a keeper           Typewriter Mode
