BirdTunes provides bird enthusiasts with rapid, uncluttered access to a comprehensive collection of North American bird songs and calls. The BirdTunes sound collection offers: Encyclopedic coverage, including over 2400 tracks for 674 species over 10 hours ...
The search functions on this app are very limited I mistakenly thought there would be a way to search by type of song which is what the graphic with the rose breasted grosbeak led me to believe I have the Audubon app that is far superior in terms of search function allowing you to narrow your species search to a geographic area habitat or state You can also search by body shape The Audubon App also has a large repertoire of calls The BirdTunes app is absolutely no help if you can hear a song but cant see the bird or if you can see the bird but dont know what it is Even if the bird is in view youd have to try to search the entire list using a tiny thumbnail to identify if youre not sure what family of bird its in There is also only one image of the bird available per entry and doesnt even show both sexes I doubt Ill use this app when the Audubon guide app is much more functional and allows several different ways to search offers multiple images for birds of both sexes as well as multiple song recordings Birdtunes does have excellent sound quality and is a good reference if you are reasonably sure of your identification I hope updates will add more images and expanded search functions like state bird lists regions or seasons but if Id known how limited this App was Id probably have waited until that time        Disappointing
For me rapid uncluttered access to bird songs and calls is THE major advantage to this app Having bird songs in the hand while birding in the field is essential There are a few ways to get them iPod Mobile field guides or a stand alone birdsong app BirdTunes is an excellent standalone bird songcall app because it takes only a moment to reach an authoritative collection of sounds calls notes regional for any species whereas mobile field guides are jampacked with tons of information and songs can take longer to load and access The interface that BirdTunes provides is handiereasier to navigate than trying to use my Stokes and Peterson libraries on iPod Its awesome to have the range of sounds by region age or song type though you can find similar song libraries in a few of the other mobile field guides And the spectrogramsonograms are neat now I can start to absorb sounds more objectively In short a very clean highly useful app Worth the ten bucks even to supplement your core mobile field guide if rapid access matters to you or if your guide has a smaller song library              Rapid uncluttered access is right on
Although it only covers a very specific area this app delivers the highest quality of bird songs and runs very well I used it quite a bit before and during a recent trip to Texas and it proved invaluable during a number of situations Well worth the price and definitely the best birdsong app out there                 FANTASTIC APP
BirdTunes is the best and most complete bird sounds app Period Its a must have for all birders There are several other app bird guides which promote themselves as having bird sounds and calls but none come close to BirdTunes complete selection of recordings of bird calls noises and songs for each bird species BirdTunes clarity and quality of the recordings is also unmatched Theyll quickly get the birds attention and make it appear if not attract the bird right to you I had to contact the author about something and they replied very quickly and went above and beyond to help me with my issue greatly exceeding all my expectations Id give them 6 stars if iTunes would let me                 The BEST bird sounds
The list of birds is sorted by first name barn owl last name owl barn or family owls Each bird has multiple tracks eg Screams 1 Screams 2 Tinkling calls Screams of young for the barn owl The search function is very quick you just start typing and it displays an ever shorter list of matching birds so after typing oy it was down to three birds two Oystercatchers and the Royal Tern You can also create a short list of favorites The interactive sonogram feature helps me hear things that I might otherwise miss The recordings are identified by state although many seem to be from the east The photos are gorgeous Thanks to the review in Bird Watchers Digest for recommending it                 Does just one thing and does it well
This is a great app but I am a bit annoyed about how the group search is programmed For example if I want to display all the Warblers it does not recognize American Redstart Northern Parula not to mention the waterthrushes Ovenbird and chat Same goes for Thrush group the Veery and Robin deserve a place there Blackbirds Orioles and Allies includes no orioles no cowbirds or grackles much less meadowlarks in fact no allies at all Swans Geese and Ducks have no swans or geese and no Mallard no teal no shoveler etc Of course there are many other examples but correcting this would certainly improve the utility of the search function It still rates 5 stars for the variety of songs and calls the recent feature and its smooth operation                 Taxonomic grouping needs attention
This is one fantastic app and a must have when heading out in the field I consider it as important as my Sibley guide now The search function works well and the sonogram along with photo is a bonus When you think about the effort Lang put into recording all the species the price is a bargain If you buy BirdTunes you wont be disappointed Listen to it often and become a better birder                 Essential equipment
Prior when Ive purchased applications for bird guides and birding they claim to have lots of images and lots of bird songs However most of them are mainly images have very few songs This one thankfully is the other way around                 Glad this one focuses more on sounds not images
Great Just find the bird photo or name and then play Get your camera ready and snap Great photo Thanks Dont have to go online to find bird calls and record                 Great for Bird Photo
Quite simply this is the best app on the market for bird songs Wonderful photos too                 None Better
I just purchased this app not more than an hour ago and already love it I love all my birding apps and this one has added an extra with the spectrograms The interface is very easy to understand and navigate through The sounds are clear and the bird photos beautiful I like the variety of sounds from different states No matter where you bird you will be able to find the sound closest to that area You will love this app as an addition to all other birding apps you may have already purchased                 Nancy from New York
The audio is terrific and the calls show the state where youd hear the birds So why cant I just show the birds that are in my state Im trying to identify the sounds I hear in my back yard but its like searching for a needle in a haystack with this app And it would be so easy to add this feature Also as noted by others more images would be helpful This app would be great for hardcore bird geeks but less useful for the rest of us           Why cant you filter by state
I cant believe how comprehensive this is 45 calls for every bird Ive looked up so far plus drums for the woodpeckers flight calls juvenile calls 10 well spent this plus my Sibley guide and I am set for spring                 Fantastic
Terrific for birders and photographers a like Easy to navigate Stunning photography Multiple songs and dialects Excellent quality of recordings Recommend highly                 Fabulous Ap
If you are looking for a simple elegant comprehensive North American bird song library then look no further this is it Quick and easy to use at home or in the field Search or browse alphabetically or taxonomically Set songs to repeat This app was designed by the great bird recordist Lang Elliot for birders It really shows Highly recommended Only drawback to me is that the app must be open to play the songs With the regular music app you can click off your phone to save battery and playback continues With this app playback stops using up battery life                 The best
I love this app so much Its honestly worth the money My only suggestion would be that there should be categories for what regions their found in That would help greatly                 My most used app
I agree this is probably the best bird app for songs but I have a few requests to make it even better 1 The ability to search for bird calls in a soundhound fashion Bird call recognition that would listen to the sound and try to match it with one in the database That would be revolutionary 2 A slide to view feature when at the picture of a bird to see females hatchlings and other pictures regarding that species Other than that I love this app I hope my requests will be taken into consideration                 App Suggestions
Very disappointed From the photos I thought it would help you identify from a sort of song you heard But unless you already know what youre looking for this wont do you much good Gives you no other information about the bird either I cant believe i paid this much for this IBird is much better     Not worth the
I have wasted so much money on apps which have been almost immediately consigned to the virtual attic I do not know why I have never thought to look for the existence of an app covering this subject and came across it quite by chance The quality of both the interface and more importantly the sound quality is way beyond my expectation If the work which has gone into developing the app wasnt impressive enough the collation of such a comprehensive collection of bird song is extraordinary No question that it is the best 10 I have ever spent on my phone                 The best produced app I have bought
Sound quality is exceptional but given the source its no surprise I do like the rapid access feature Having multiple songs and calls is fantastic I have two issues First for a 10 app there should be a help screen It would be helpful if they incorporate the how to use info under FAQ from their webpage Second I wish the favorites had a userdefined label Allinall a great app              Rapid is right
If you know what the bird is or at least its last name you can find it and listen to many different sounds But there is only one picture per bird and no help searching by shape color etc The sounds are terrific              Not for beginners
Much more than I expected in a bird calls app Pictures multiple calls for many birds locale and other info And you can make bird call playlists                 Heavenly
This is probably the best bird song identification app available The ability to add target species to a list of favorites is a very handy feature Another strength of the app is that it provides multiple songs per species from various geographic areas which helps to ensure that distinct subspecies which may later be elevated to full species can be identified such as with the recentlysplit Pacific Wren and Winter Wren It would be nice if this app were updated to take advantage of multitasking in iOS 40 and later Also the addition of a few more species from the edge of the ABA area would nice such as Yellowgreen Vireo Flamecolored Tanager Rufouscapped Warbler etc                 Excellent
i was searching online for humming birds calls and end up buying this app AMAZING sounds quality WOW Worth every pennies                 Humming birds
This app is associated with Lang Elliot perhaps the best nature sound recorder and editor ever Potential purchasers need to research this app thoroughly and try the lite version for free first to make sure it meets their needs and what this app provides This app is not intended to be a bird id app but more of a bird call confirmation type of app along those lines There are better apps to assist with id needs iBird being a good one But if you want access to the many calls of each bird species then this is the app for you Check out the website and try the lite version before you buy so you wont be disappointed I love it                 Terrific
