Arbor Day Tree Identification Guide: What Tree ...

There are so many better ways to walk someone who doesnt have a botany degree in identifying trees For example how much time could you save by just clicking a button that says has flowers An ideal app would allow you to select the parameter you want to begin the search with starting with zone is very limiting especially since people can pot trees and bring them to other regions This app is a wonderful visual effort but totally fall short of the promise to help you identify I really want my five dollars back        Ugh

1 Only shows leaves Should have pictures of entire tree and specific characteristics 2 Saved trees only show leaf and Google map of location where saved 3 Description of trees is pitifully limited to height and where its best to plant Need more detailed descriptions characteristics of branches bark fruit habitat Need more pictures 4 Looking for a tree is awkward Have to go through many steps to get to a picture of the leaf and a description that is too vague to identify the tree conclusively 5 It has potential but needs to be revised extensively        Could be improved greatly

The leaf ID gives you very few choices Working from the tree names pulls up more information but if you arent familiar with the species youre sunk        Simplistic and frustrating

Knowing what I know now I probably wouldnt have spent so much on this app Theres a bug when you try to tag a tree the app asks to allow use of location services even when app is not in use and when you hit dont allow it freezes and is only fixed by deleting and reinstalling the app This needs to be fixed for one and there also needs to be a way to taggroup trees without engaging location services at all I agree about including photos and descriptions of bark types as well its a whole part of the tree thats been excluded I also think there ought to be a question at the beginning of the dichotomous key that asks does the tree have fruits or flower on it Or not so that users have the option to skip the flower and fruit section if the tree doesnt have them Bark types need to be included in the questions as well           I Agree with Zachary W

This app is not ready for prime time and is not worth 5 Maybe 99 cents for the list of trees and the glossary I sill call the Arbor Club for a refund TREE ID Unable to ID the hickories in my yard using the leaf interrogator I used a similar written leaf interrogator in HS biology class and it worked I like this method of ID using leaves but this app ID logic gives up before the job is finished For this reason alone I will request a refund MY TREES privacy This app will not allow a tree to be added to the My Trees unless Location Services For the app is on giving away your location CONTACTFEEDBACK The app does not appear to have an in app contact method of reporting bugs and contacting customer service for oh say a refund VISUAL HELPS Good drawings or pictures for each glossary term seems logical There are very few visual helps     Refund please

Not easy to use Requires too much information to identify tree for example what type of fruit or how many years     Not worth it

I was happy to support the Arbor Day Foundation but after a few months of using this app Im shopping for another I wish that the questions it asked came with more photos that you could skip questions that you couldnt answer such as berry type out of season and that the nifty map also logged the date of the identification However its still fun and lighter than a paper tree guide I hope they continue to develop it           Could be better

For all those who complain about the difficulty of this app Come on All it takes is a decent understanding of the English language and observational skills Very simple and straightforward unless words like margin lobe or sinus confuse you All the purely botanical terms are explained in laymans words Im not a botanist for easy understanding too Once again an excellent app                 Excellent app

Dont waste your time or money this is not a helpful app for identifying trees It only asks general questions and leaves you with choices that dont fit what you are looking for     Not worth it

Apparently every broadleaf tree in the northeast is either a gingko or a sassafras which by the way are two of the easiest trees to ID without this 5 app Dont waste your money     Awful

An awesome app that does its job well but could use some touching up in the bells and whistles department 1 Needs ability to delete trees in My Trees section 2 Needs to have a toggle switch for recording the trees location using GPS or manual input 3 Needs ability to change location of tree in My Trees section GPS doesnt get it exact 4 It has told me that Twitter authentication failed even though it clearly posted using the account 5 Arbor Day Foundation guide needs picture examples with ALL not just some descriptions              Great App But Needs Improvement

Worst app on my phone Never names the tree properly If it wasnt so expensive I would have immediately deleted it Complete waste of money     Horrible app

This is a really cool app Very informative with detailed graphics for ease of use Its great when youre out in the woods or just strolling through the park Check it out                 Your own personal nature guide

People complaining about the limited database need to understand that Arbor Day only includes a certain geographic area under their umbrella So obviously its not for everyone depending on where you live but its a great design with lots of useful info And I love being able to track all the trees Ive identified on the map                 Fantastic

This app would be great if the trees i was trying to identify had leaves Im trying to identify trees that are dead with no leaves for fire wood I dont think a simple picture of bark would be hard to add to this app while trying to identify different types of trees     not worth the money

If all you need is a picture of a leaf i guess this is good If you trying to id a tree in a late fall or winter it is totally useless There is no photos just a drawing of a leaf Waste of money I want my money back dang it     Total garbage

How can you have a tree guide without images of the bark to assist in the identification I so like the layout and flow of the app This is an expensive app and a free app called Tree Identifier has fewer trees but much better images including bark With all the sources of free images available why not include the bark As they have always said A picture can be worth a thousand words     Very dissappointing Would like refund

I hope that the next update fixes some things because viscerally I really like this app I can understand folks frustrations listed in the reviews the limited visual resources trying to identify a tree out of its zone etc However tromping through the forest with this app is fun and helpful I put it to use within the first 24 hrs of downloading it and it expanded my knowledge of trees Id say thats a success What I would like are 1 A way to group favorite trees Right now the My Trees section only lets you geotag trees Even if you have tagged a tree theres no easy way to get into its bio page to read about that species I would love to have a My Favorites so I could easily pull up descriptions of trees I commonly find around me Western Redcedar Douglas Fir Western Hemlock etc 2 A deeper description of the trees with more illustrations As it stands youre given a beautiful drawing of a trees branch leaves and cones But what about the bark What about differences between when its young and older Heres an example description The Western Redcedar does not like extreme heat and dry conditions but does make a good hedge visual screen windbreak or specimen tree It grows at a medium to slow rate in its optimum growing conditions under full sunlight or partially shaded areas in moist soil Grows up to 70 25 spread Im trying to identify trees in the woods not plant a hedge It would be more helpful to answer the questions I stated above 3 A tweak to the search bar This is a small thing but when I hit the search glass I think its implied that I want to search I dont want to tap again on the search bar to pull up the keyboard Just bring the keyboard up the first click Ultimately this app is a great beginning Arbor Day Foundation you have a beautiful infrastructure now just fill it out please           Beautiful design so much potential

I saw this and thought it would be an easy way to help identify trees with my 6 year old on a random walk through the woods teaching him the basics of a question tree to narrow down possibilities as a bonus I could not be more wrong The first question was easy identify the general leaf shape Done Then it immediately started getting technical with questions like Are the leaves once or twice PINNATELY COMPOUND blades with deeply TOOTH or LOBED margins Clue The flowers are bright yellow and appear midsummer Uuuuh firstly I am walking ONE day of hundreds during the year I havent observed it any other day to know when or IF it flowers Secondly what is pinnately compound and what is a margin so I know what I am supposed to identify as toothed or lobed Unless you have studied botany and understand that question and how to answer it dont bother with this app I will be requesting a refund     This was supposed to HELP

Having such a small inventory of possible trees 250ish wouldnt be a problem if it stopped at the general family or a group of possibilities As it is it delivers a very specific often incorrect identification You cant trust the results Without major updates this is a waste of an app        Pretty but database is too small

This App cannot identify any tree I have tried so far it doesnt even ask the correct questions to get to the correct answer Its a waste of money     Absolute JUNK

The question tree that leads one to the answer is brilliant BUT the program assumes you know the tree ie If the leaves stay on is it for 1 2 or 3 4 years as well as intimate questions about the insides of the fruit nut I Looking at a nice pic I took here in N CA of a tree in bloom and I cant find what it is If I go over to the park and look at the tree in question I still wont have an answer because I dont know how how many years the leaves stay on           I like some of it

Doesnt identify trees correctly and does not even list white pine one of the most common trees in New England     Dont waste your money

This could be so much more It is way over priced Disappointed           Save your money
