The new Audubon Mushrooms is the most comprehensive and accurate guide to North American mushrooms and other fungi available to date. The app covers over 550 common species of mushrooms, other fungi and slime molds ...
Pictures too small font size for scientific names way too small and illegible at times and too few species missing many common species But for 099 its a good start I guess        Too Small
Very informational A must have for hunting and identifying Great layout                 Great App
Very poor location services I activated the location services on this app but it keeps saying Im in Vermont I changed my default location in my profile and saved the changes but it reverts to Vermont Makes it very frustrating to try to report sightings Im surprised and disappointed that it cant make better use of my phones GPS        Locations
This is one of those apps you get and say It must be able to fill in the blank And you realize it doesnt PROS I find most of the photos look pretty good especially on the iPad Descriptions are well done Its great being able to have all this info on you CONS While there are 3 choices to sort the mushrooms alphabetically they dont stick So if you want to sort the entries by scientific name you can but when you return theyre back to being sorted by common name Every time It doesnt take much time for the list to resort but its a pain and something that should be fixed Whatever you do dont load your own photos into the app and then sync with the online database Your high quality photos will be turned into pixelated messes I can understand the site not wanting to have lots of high memory photos but people should be warned that their photos will be horribly resized Especially if one has spent hours setting up photo albums Every time you close the app and reopen you have to AGREE to a full page warning about eating dangerous mushrooms Are you kidding Look if I agreed once I agreed You dont have to ask me EVERY time I open the app I love the feature of being able to add my own Photo Albums but you cant reorder the list of albums you create So if I create an album called Puffballs and then later create an album called Boletes I cant put them is alphabetical order Theyll forever be sorted in the order you created them I cant think of any app I own on the App Store that doesnt let you reorder lists Sloppy I also like the Sightings feature which allows you to keep a list of all the species youve found But it records the list by its Common Name not its scientific name The Audubon book is often scoffed at for giving EVERY mushroom a common name even if they just made it up Unfortunately that phony science is on full display here Please give me the choice of listing things by their scientific name Theres no landscape option for database photos Theres a lot of good stuff here but also a lot thatll drive you crazy The app feels rushed On the other hand I think some of the fixes are easy to make Heres hoping they take the time to do so        Has potential but needs a LOT of work
Bummer that I paid for this and now I will delete it Its useless and it wastes a lot of space on your phone If its going to be 400Mb or however big it is it should at least have decent quality photos What it really should have is drawings and more species and variety coverage     Not comprehensive poor quality images
Lots of help                 Works well
Always crashes     Terrible
I seem to have forgotten my user name or password and cant log in I cant register either as they are taken yes BY ME I find no one to contact so would seem to be stuck           Impossible to log in
This is a really disappointing app which does not live up to the Audubon name at all Most entries have only one picture which really doesnt help much in identification The description for each entry is minimal much less than you could find even on Wikipedia The information about edibility is very inconsistent The search engine doesnt return meaningful results The add sighting doesnt allow you to take photos Overall this app is worth maybe 99 and even at that it would be overpriced Far far inferior to a good print field guide Dont waste your money until they improve this and you see some decent reviews for it     Really disappointing
Like another viewer I experience this app crashing every single time I try an advanced searchthe app simply stops Im using an iPhone 6 Someone needs to fix this thing as its not currently delivering value     Crashes Every Time
Its not really a field guide The imagery is somewhat limited which is HOW you get help identifying mushrooms PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES Some species have literally one photo some from the underside I guess the content just seems a little thin Theres no info really on poisonous or not Most times is says Edible With Caution And theres no explanation like youll ONLY bleed out from your eyes if you eat this one Not a comprehensive app           Audubon Really
Adding sightings is a painful process Feel ripped off     Terribly frustrating
Great app deleted mushroom ID for this one because this has much more info Although some do state if the mushroom is edible or poisonous its hard to see listed under discussion although its listed there I would give this app 5 stars if each mushroom had a subject like discussion titled as edibility stating if it is if its not recommended if its unknown if its poisonous etc Just like the book does So please add that in an update Stay true to your book              Beautiful and very useful
I teach university level fungi and find then list of species very good with beautiful large photos of each specimen The text is adequate and provides more specifics about identification that a picture can show Some have complained about the small thumbnail images but when you open up a species list you then see a gorgeous large image The GPS enabled species checklist looks promising A few suggestions the search function does not include a selection for spore print color which many people will want to use and also is a very useful character to identify many species of mushrooms This omission should be fixed Though the app says it displays them I dont see the similar species lists come up though I suspect this will be corrected in the next version when these items are fixed Ill make my review five stars For me well worth the cost Thanks              Very useful Fungi apprecommend over others
Good guide              Good
I dont want to create an account I just want to view the data It stinks to be nagged every time especially in a paid app     A little annoying
Google is already free and lists all mushrooms known to man This app is very limited and a huge let down Already deleted it     waste of money
I have IOS6 please update this              Wont download
I have really enjoyed this app so far Though there are 500 photos some species only have a single photo making it difficult for a novice to be certain of their identification I love the large amount of data included and the descriptions are wonderful Species distribution maps would be helpful as well All in all I really love this app and I look forward to identifying more mushrooms              Love this app
Helpful for browsing mushrooms but advanced search using the key simply shuts program down           Use of key shuts program down
Well organized easy to navigate relatively good photographs Too limited when it comes to adding photos and obscure when trying to write descriptions              Good but
Id like my time and money back please     Crashes Reliably
Even the best app that crashes while performing its main function ie search such as this one is worthless and the purchase price should be refunded Otherwise it is a fraud     Worthless crushes on iPad Air
I am really enjoying the wealth of information this app offers Rating down one star as Im having trouble navigating between pages and response time can be rather slow Overall a great app for foraging wild mushrooms              Full of information
SEE UPDATE BELOW I wrote to them about this but did not hear back This App thinks everyone lives in Vermont When you register the only state you can chose is Vermont When you want to report a siting of a fungus it automatically gives you towns in Vermont There is no way to change anything from the Vermont location Others have reviewed saying the same thing We paid for a good app from a trusted source and got something else UPDATE My fault You need to physically move the pin from Vermont to your location in your profile You also need to do that to enter a sighting A bit tricky to get the exact location since the map zooms around a bit But now I know I should have read the instructions first              Useless in important ways
This could really use multiple photos of each and every species Some are limited to just one photo There should be more mushrooms in general as well If you are expecting a comprehensive description of every or close to every mushroom of N America just search the internet you wont find that here unfortunately           Adequate
I love having this field guide info at my finger tips but Id you dont know what youre looking for these really wont help Unlike the hardcopies the thumbnail pics are so small they are useless on both the iPhone and iPad Ive finally become frustrated enough to post this on all the guides Ive purchased with the hope that others will agree and get the developers attention since this I really the only major flaw in thaw otherwise excellent apps        Thumbnails too small
I really enjoy the ease of use of this app You do not have to be a member to use it simply click cancel on the log in screen and it will take you to the ID page Ive never had an issue with it crashing on my iPhone or iPad My only complaint is that there arent multiple photos of each mushroom              Great App
This would be my favorite mushroom ID app I have purchased 4 if it would just function without freezing up or crashing It is tied to the NatureShare community and that provides frustration all its own On the up side there are a good number of mushrooms identified with sound descriptions and beautiful images although multiple images of the same mushroom would be helpful and is rarely provided        Crashes Frequently and Freezes Up Often
The biggest drawback is that theres no classification by color One has to used advanced search for that For me this makes the app practically unusable        Just okay
Crashes every time I try and advanced search Location services are inaccurate unless you live in Vermont Not comprehensive Guess Ill go back to the ole eat it and see what happens method     Not helpful
Goodbut not great 3stars This application appears to me to be relying heavily on the Audubons past reputation for success Hardly their best effortThe search engine is clumsy at best Photos range from great to pitiful The application needs some work before its truly worthy of the price WillH           Good not great
If this is the best mushroom guide app then Id advise you to go buy a good paper field guide instead This app has some nice photos but it is mostly just big lists of mushroom species with thumbnails that are too small to be useful Once you select a particular mushroom theres a minimal description No links to similar species Not much help for field identification The advanced search looks like it would be useful but I tried it for a few species and it came up with no results or really strange results that didnt seem to fit my search criteria There are completely broken UI elements like a completely nonstandard size slider that dont work at all When scrolling through a list there are letters printed on the right side of the page that are completely mysterious They dont scroll with the list so who knows what they are supposed to mean I was hoping that for 10 this guide would be as good as iBird Explorer is for birds I was sadly mistaken This app would be worth it for 099 Im sorry I bought it        Save your money not worth 10
Works fine as long as I dont sign in When I sign in it automatically shuts down        Disappointed
If you know anything about mushrooms youll enjoy this app Do not think of this as a replacement to a thorough mushroom textbecause its not It doesnt cover all species and information on some is limited That said well worth having if you forage a lot or are addicted to mushrooms as much as I am Have fun with this digital supplement to keying mushrooms Remember a good guide costs 2 to 3 times with more and provides corresponding comprehension of information              Good guide
Wouldnt have known what half of the mushrooms I find without this app                 Awesome
This is Audubonbranded but the content doesnt live up to the name The advanced search is not useful and rarely produces a result for even the most basic query and the pictures and content is sparse UI is fine but the information is not nearly sufficient I feel like a rube for paying 10 for this        Sparse contentpoor search
Not intuitive Crashes all the time Waste of 5 Very disappointed Expected more from Audubon     Truly horrible app Do NOT buy
App works well Good pictures for identification I also like how users can take pictures of mushrooms and share them with others                 Excellent identification guide
The advanced search feature is slow inconsistent and prone to freezes As a field guide the ability to narrow searches based on attributes is pretty important kind of in my mind the starting point for a key or field guide Nice pics but frustrating to actually USE to ID a mushroom        Buggy
I really wanted to enjoy this app because my property has a dozen different species of mushrooms and I wanted to become familiar with them But the app constantly crashes and is userunfriendly Its a waste of both time and money Dont bother     Disappointment
Found a Prince mushroom that wasnt in this guide Had to use google              Good but shrooms missing
because there are multiple photographs of various species and mushrooms show much variation in appearance Recent updates for iOS5 will probably improve the app greatly Id say more but the HUGE file 519MB is still downloading Isnt it possible to upgrade an app without reloading all the media files This may be an issue with Apple of course Still its an issue with all of the Audubon Field Guides which are designed to function normally without Internet connectivity              Probably the Best
Would be great if more entries had multiple pictures highlighting different portions of the mushroom and showing developmental stages for each species              Needs more pictures
Nice photos for many of the species Could use more views of the same species Strong text but a bit dated and skimpy for todays standards           OK but hard to search
Not enough info on edibility and closely related species Searching for a specific type is not intuitive Had to manually search through entire list to find a common species When identifying you will have to start over due to buggy app Not impressed and not even worth the 99c paid Do not use this if you are trying to identify if the found mushroom is edible Also journal doesnt give any option to help navigate back to already found fungi     Pretty disappointed
This app looks and feels ancient The last update was in October 2011 but its basically unchanged since its release in 2010 The UI is awkward and you have to wait for every page to load even on an iPhone 5 It needs a complete rewrite In the event it is ever rewritten unlikely please dont hide the status bar or provide an option to not hide it I use that area for gestures     Basically unchanged since 2010
Great                 Mushrooms
