Ive had this app a good while and use it all the time Its helped spot all kinds of objects in the night sky Also explore the distant fringes of our noticeable night sky Message for the developer if its not that much trouble it would be nice if the if the radio dish of all the spacecraft were pointed at Earth instead of pointing out in the the unknown Also maybe have a generic spacecraft to replace all the spacecraft that look like small moons Small thing but just a pet peeve                 Love it

Its tough to say when you need the pro version of this app The pro version is so enormous and the light pollution in my area prevents this app from being necessary but its nice to know you have THE PREMIERE astronomy app That being said the plus is great too                 Large and in charge

This is one of those showcase apps that you see in the commercials etc It is so deep and complex that I doubt Ill ever use a third of its functionality Expensive Yes But for a reason This isnt some watered down version of a desktop program The Settings menus are some of the most extensive Ive ever seen                 Very Powerful app

I spent months with my finger itching to hit the purchase button over that staggering price 3999 That was tough to swallow Once I finally went for it though I knew it was the right choice of the three available versions I have been using SkySafari 4 Pro for 910 months now on a daily basis It took me a few weeks to transition completely from the other apps I had purchased and grown accustomed to simply because the app has such a great multitude of features over my other apps that I found it to be beautifully overwhelming The sky map is beautifully done and I love all the customizable features choose the surface brightness of deep space objects example is I only want to see magnitude 11 and under for DSOs choose how to see the constellations customize the grid display in the sky particularly useful when youre simultaneously using a telescope and need different sets of coordinates and so many more Im a total astronomy junky so something that I just cant get enough of for funeducational purposes is the fast forward and rewind ability Want to see what pastfuture north stars will be All that data is here and ready to be viewed with a staggeringly accurate and beautiful display Want to see what the sky looks like right now in China Chile Fiji right now View it as if you were there Want to see the sky in the 18th and 19th centuries from the same location as those astronomers who first catalogued all our favorite objects How about what the sky looks like from Mars or the Orion Nebula or andromeda Piece of cake SO FREAKIN COOL Id pay the 3999 just for that A few months ago I bought the Orion wifi module for my GoTo mount I was happier than a pig in you no what on those freezing philly nights to be able to go in when the cold got unbearable but still be able to use my phone to point at different objects Set up was a breeze I also use this app to compile nightly and seasonal lists for imaging sessions great organizational tool I could go on and on and on Basically if you choose a different app due to cost youre just burning money my friend Youll soon find that apps limitations and take the same plunge I did I can assure you that you will not regret it                 Unparalleled App for the Amateur Astronomer

I use this when I go out to observe in place of a printed sky chart You can do things that are difficult or impossible to do w a printed sky chart like zoom in and out find the precise angular separation of two objects see how the sky should appear in your eyepiece and can adjust for the type of image flip of your telescope see mag 12 or darker stars If youre a casual observer it has wealth of info that will keep you occupied for hours and well worth the cost of the basic version Youll learn a ton of things about the night sky If youre an amateur astronomer you need the Plus or Pro version to get these features but its worth it The SCC website has a chart that shows the differences among the versions                 Great out in the field

Southern Stars has outdone themselves this time The newest version of SkySafari maintains the features that made it the best in class of the astronomy apps out there and added more details and features that their customers wanted including requests made by amateur astronomers such as myself The star catalogs have been enhanced with 80 more stars and a full catalog of double stars The app now includes searching for meteor showers You can enter the specifications of your equipment and it displays fields of view to match what you see in the eyepiece And you can now use SkySafari to record observations you make These additions make the app even better but they just enhance the capabilities that already existed like controlling almost 50 different classes of telescope mounts realtime display of the features on planets like the Great Red Spot on Jupiter the ability to travel to other locations in the solar system and look back on planet Earth and even the ability to show the path of asteroids or comets that are in the news I use it all the time to control my telescope and when Im at public observing sessions people are just amazed at how easy it is to use The photos contained in the app allow me to show people what the object should look like before they look in the eyepiece and detailed information lets me answer questions like how far away a galaxy is SkySafari just makes observing the sky more enjoyable And I know I am not alone in my opinion most of he other folks in my astronomy club have switched from other more expensive products to SkySafari for their observing So if you just look up in the sky and wonder what that bright object near the moon is get plain SkySafari But if you have a telescope and want to enjoy the skies more get SkySafari Pro There is nothing else like it on the App Store                 The Best Gets Better

This app provides many tools and tons of info for the amateur astronomer I really like being able to create custom observing lists having different ways to sort them by set time RA constellation name number etc Objects not visible at the given time location are dimmed in the list Being able to flip customize the view allows me to perfectly match the screen display to what I see in the eyepiece This is currently making it a breeze for me to work my way through the AL double star observing program The app is also fun to use with my iPad or iPhone in the field to wirelessly control my telescope via their SkyFi dongle Hats off too to the very helpful engaged app designers Love love love Sky Safari                 How did I observe without this

This app is by far the best for anyone who likes astronomy It is the best for mobile devices which is perfect for taking with you to stargaze It is packed full of features and the images are amazing quality It takes several hours to get familiar with the app but after that it will be the best investment you have made for astronomy software                 Amazing

I have been an astronomer for many years Im presently an adjunct professor adjunct because Im retired of Physics Astronomy at a local university and now work for NASAJPL This program is invaluable for outreach education and is an incredible source of info I also use it for telescope control and it is by far the most accurate go to program I have ever used I am constantly amazed by all of its features such as auto updating and the responsiveness of the authors is immediate and helpful I have used dedicated software for scope control which cost hundreds of times as muchand none of them can surpass this program I cannot recommend It highly enough and if I could give it twenty stars Zi would                 The best out there

Im completely new to the sky and have joined a group to go out and learn They were the ones who recommended Sky Safari The price is high but so is the payoff The sky is a big place with a lot of things to see and figure out what they are The software helps me to filter out what is too much info and thus simplify my learning curve Love the night mode that is a must have when in the field Also can create lists of what Ive observed and record notes Awesome My only complaint is that I cannot find a current PDF of the software manual online There is a good help file in the software but I find it much easier to have software up and running and manual on another screen                 Worth it for beginners

Despite a large number of cheaper astronomy app Sky Safari remains my goto app for serious work I have used both the Plus and Pro versions One of the things that set it ahead of the pack for me is the ability to create observing lists These can be created in advance to plan a nights observing and then you can log your actual observations into a second list you can even set an option to visually highlight objects you have observed These files can be emailed to others to share observations or include in other logs                 First class astronomy app

I have 42 astronomy apps on my phone This is the most expensive of them all It is also the most useful of them all This is a case of getting what you pay for It doesnt do everything the other apps do but its the one I go to unless theres something specific I what that it doesnt address So this is the one I go to at least 90 of the time So the bottom line is that its a great app If you can afford it get it                 Best Astronomy App
