Skipper is mobile charts done right. A seamless chart-plotter, with data synced across all of your devices, and backed up to the cloud. Convenience and power, charts and weather, wherever you cruise. Skipper is developed and ...
Top of the line Chartsweatherhourly wind reportwind speed by locationtrackingwaypoints and a whole lot more Skipper
Personally I would never us an iPhone or Ipad as my primary navigation device thats what designated chart plotters are for I do however use this app extensively for voyage and route planning before embarking on a voyage I sail thousands of miles each year and rather than using my actual nav equipment I can relax on the couch and use these genuine NOAA charts to research and plan my voyages The app works great and is well worth the money It could use more options though such as a raster chart option and better zoom levels on many charts But it does an excellent job for what I use it for I do sometimes use it on my phone for navigation if I venture far in my dinghy Great Route Planning App
Such a great app to have on the iPad Takes me right to the spot on the chart Great features easy to use Great App
I thought this would be the marine equivalent to the aviation institution Foreflight I was wrong First and foremost there are no dates on the charts There is no way that I have found to see if the charts are valid Without dates this app cannot be used for navigation The marine charts constantly switch between different types of charts randomly as you zoom in and out You never know what kind of chart is going to show up Impossible to navigate this way The preview of the paid version only works once and as soon as you close the app its gone There is no way to know if it is worth paying for the app if you cant try it for a period of time Most other pay apps offer a 30 day trial Here you get a single use trial I contacted customer service indicating I was interested in purchasing the app but had questions on how to use it but I got no response even now 2 weeks later I also wanted to know if the charts were uptodate how often they are updated and how to know what the effective dates of the charts are I want to know how to get the maps to stop changing every time I adjust the zoom Verdict Avoid Its a neat play thing but if you are epileptic you should avoid because the map twitching might trigger a seizure If you are serious about marine navigation I guess consider buying a marine GPS or find another app that just sells charts Twitchy Maps No Cust Svc Weak Preview
Great functionality and elegant implementation Best free app I have
A must have app for any sailor Amazing
Seems to work OK on one device Interesting concept So I purchased the pro version Never was able to get logged in on my other apple mobile devices Some kind of login unknown error using the Skipper login Technology documentation and support are weak toyware
Only provides outside charts I boat in a large charted bay and need inshore charts Cant use
I have other nag apps but this is my preferred one due to is easy of use and quality More expensive App are available but are a waste of money My preferred App
Of all the inexpensive navigation apps I have found this one is the most useful for what I do which is travel near the Southern California coast with forays out to the Channel Islands I love the integration with Active Captain and the way you can layer the chart over sat images Very cool I run it on a third generation iPad and iPhone 5s Best Chart App Under 400 Dollars
Had a chance to use this app over the weekend and was pleasantly surprised Great for my needs kayaking in and around the shores of Puerto Rico Great app
Being new to marine navigation I was looking for an app that had it all This is it Very useful
Not my primary navigation tool but a good thing to have in my pocket for casual boating when the fog rolls in on the coast of Maine Good App
A must have for anyone especially those who travel in unfamiliar waters Great Back up plan
I have been looking for an app that downloads the maps and allows me to use them without a connection to the Internet This one is close perhaps but if you scroll to another area away from where you are to look for something and need to stop the program you cannot assume your local maps are still available to use the next time you go to use it Once I got back to an Internet connection the local maps popped right up So beware of this offline hiccup and the rest seems to be working Ok Because of this flaw I will not be buying the app yet I need a true offline app that wont surprise me with this problem right when I need it most Im hoping an update will take care of this issue Not really a true offline app
Must have for every boater Accurate and works great Great app
I checked some other Marine App from more official provider and I found this one much better I suggest to use it Better than official apps
Have only used it for a few days but very impressed Using on iPhone 5 I can only imagine how good it would be on an iPad I see a few glitches but could be operator error as well We lost all chart markers for awhile and only had active captain Markers returned after messing with the screen Pretty cool give it a try I have recommended it to friends Great Ap
Great Great app
I found this app when I searched for tides Tide information is not included in the free version Basically all you get is a map view Free version very limited
I am essentially a glorified day sailor who occasionally sets off on multiday cruises I have found this app to be perfect for my type of sailing It helps me discover great little restaurants in places I would have never explored prior to Skipper I think Id prefer a more sophisticated chart plotter for blue water long distance cruising but I love it for the type of sailing I do in the Gulf of Mexico between Tampa and Mobile Its definitely worth the tiny investment Fair Winds Excellent Inexpensive Simple
Would be a good app if it worked I paid the 10 but app shows subscription is expired and prompts me to renew So I buy it again to renew and app tells me Im already subscribed until 2016 But the app itself is in demo mode and wont recognize I bought it Complete waste of time and money Waste of money
Works really well The phone battery runs down pretty fast so keep a charger Great Marine Navigation Aid
It has always worked well for me I especially like the features that record all my tracks and they cross platforms between my iPad and my iPhone It is a nice back up to the dedicated chart plotter on the boat Great Navigation app
The app is great except the weather reports are far from accurate Weather issues
I usually wait to review an app but for the price of cheap lunch for 10 I feel I already got way more for my money I just spent 30 for three paper charts that I will maybe never use but this app gives access to all of the charts and they stay up to date Still playing around and learning but so far its great Great app
Having two other iphone nav apps to determine which works best i kept going back to this one for ease of charting clarity of use and available details Best program More expensive ones available yes but why waste money when you can spend it on rum and get a great nav program Best in hand
This is great Nice program
Accurate and up to date Thanks for a great product Best Ive found
This is the best 10 bucks ive spenti use it on my ipad air and my 1st genetation ipad and it works greatlots of toolsaccurateand my ipad battery lasts a long timei fish for a living and definetly recommend this app Catdaddy
The ability to add any kind of chart from our already paid for charts from the government is awesome Thanks Super navigation app
Was right on par with the chart plotter for position and depth Good stuff Spot On App
I use skipper to plan trips to Catalina island and the Channel Islands The satellite image overlay is helpful when planning places to anchor because you can see rocks and kelp and the two are always right on Great in the Santa Monica Bay Area
With this app and my iPad can easily see fishing pointshazards and navigate appropriately at a fraction of the cost of a dedicated GPS as well as access all the other useful apps Great App to Find Those Fishing Spots
I was contemplating buying a lowrance hds 7 and gofree module in order to integrate an ipad into my setup This would cost well over 1500 I decided to try some chart plotting apps on my ipad and see if i could do as well as lowrance chartplotting This app is awesome My setup consists of an Ipad mini with broadband in a lifeproof nuud case with RAM mount next to an old garmin fishfinder While i am sure that this app on the mini would allow you to navigate in the pitch dark with fog it really is not my intention My use of the app is to see depths run tracks and mark waypoints where i catch fish drop pots etc My favorite part of this app is the ability to share your waypoints between devices I can mark a waypoint on the mini or on my iphone for that matter and then fill in the pertinants later on either device while i am at home Try doing that with a 3000 lowrance HDS12 Gen2 You can even add a picture to your waypoint The other reason i like the idea of using an app like this compared to a dedicated chartplotter is that they spend years developing and upgrading the software for a dedicated chartplotter while an app like this can be very dynamic As an example you could submit a feature request to Skipper and they can create an update and publish it in a very short period of time where the dedicated chartplotter would probably not be updated until you spend 3000 more on your next device I think this is a fantastic advantage and the fact that i can check my email and do 1000000 other things on the ipad makes this a great alternative or upgrade to a dedicated charplotter I am 1000 satisfied with Skipper The subscription is a bit of money but i think the ability to share data between devices is totally worth it Also downloading maps for offline use is a great feature that is well done in the software you simply find the area you want and hold down on the grids you want to download I am in the Pacific Northwest and the charts are totally on point for the areas i fish out of from Seattle to the San Juans This reminded me of the other feature i like in that you can select base maps If you select satellite imagry for a base it will overlay the charts as slightly see through so you can read the chart and actually see the satellite imagry underneath All in all this app is a great piece of software that makes your Ipad rival the big dogs chartplotters in many way and exceeed them in key areas No need for chart plotter with this app 6 Stars
Very good app with all what I need like the Tide Current the wind info tracks and much other Skipper
As an avid kayaker in S Florida I would rate this app the 2 item to have while on the water The 1 is a life preserver Both can save your life if needed Excellent App
I paid the 399 for this app and got nothing in return Cant get it to do much of anything Toy
I have yet to use this on the water but the maps and zoom levels seem quite valuable for being a free app Really amazing
I just bought this but so far it looks great New to this app but it looks ok
Eg When zooming in on Boston Harbor it does not load the detail map of the inner harbor even when zoomed all the way in Map software doesnt always load the appropriate chart
great applove itHUGE amount of data and its FREE cant beat itthe app has been designed professionally and its interface is simple and straightforward making it easy to utilizei give these guysgals props for developing a fantastic app and making it accessible to the public BRAVO well done Great stuff
Nice app I use it primarily for day trips on the water pretty good
Update this app works ok for showing nautical maps however it is a complete POS when it comes to tracking Just came in from another sailing outing to find that the app paused recording at some point during my journey This time I started recording when I left the marina and never touched my phone while I was out sailing so I know I didnt accidentally hit pause Additionally when I got home the entire track is gone The old track is still in place and it doesnt show any of my track from today There are other apps out there that just show NOAA maps and do tracking that actually works Totally fed up with this app and tired of losing my datatracks Original review The app does what it advertises but has some drawbacks The major one being that it kills your phone battery It took my phone from 100 to 20 in just over an hour My battery generally lasts me all day as I have streamlined my phone for max battery life so it is definitely this app and not my phone So unless you have this hooked up to a charger or other power source its use is limited As others mentioned it is not an offline app which is a bit annoying as I generally sail the same area over and over again so I dont understand why it cant cache those charts The track feature is also kludgy there is no apparent way to clearstopsave a track You have to start recording again and select new track Pretty annoying additionally the button to toggle recording is in a bad spot and it is easy to accidentally pause recording if you pick up your phone to look at it The rest of the app works well and does what it says By comparison if youre just looking to track your path look elsewhere I ran OpenGPS and it drained my phone by only 10 using my wifes phone as compared to this app which completely drained my phone in the same amount of time Battery Killer and unreliable tracker
This app is pretty robust and seems to have a lot of functionality designed into it Top Notch
Seems to have everything that is needed for information and easy to navigate and use And also is my last name Lol Great app
For a navigation App this one is impossible to navigate Impossible to get to the right map on the screen Some choices lead you to screens that you cannot get back from There seems to be no chart for the Long Island Sound I want my money back Impossible to navigate
Great app Really comes in handy when you are in a pinch Great app Really comes in handy when you are in a pinch
Great charting FREE App Quick and easy to use from the Keys to the Chesapeake to Oregon used it everywhere A must have for casual boaters Skipper is great
I have been on all types of boats from fishing charters in the gulf to sailing the Bay Area and gulf However there was one big problem I had never really gone out by myself always had a well versed friend that knew the area Well this Skipper app is the best tool well versed friend to take with you I use it on my iPhone 6 and it works great I would recommend this application Please keep up the good work skipper app I hope someone new or old to boating finds this helpful If you go out on the water you need this app for safetyPERIOD
