Simple Outliner

This is the iOS Killer App for me I use it many times a day for almost anything textual including shopping lists todo lists and daily journals as a scratchpad for organizing ideas as a repository for a collection of favorite quotes and as a general storage place for miscellaneous textual data from any source What sets this application apart from the crowd is that your data remains entirely yours You can transfer text both in and out of the application in multiple formats and you can back up every bit of it in plain text using only WiFi and a web browser Theres no need for and no dependency on and no extra expense of any custom application on your computer to extract your data from an appspecific format It really is all about your data and this apps developer respects that And its very easy to use The UI has a few quirky nonobvious capabilities but you just learn them and go forward                 Yes its all about your data

Ive tried most of the other outliners and this is by far and away the best Specifically importexport with email Dropbox temporary local host or google docs work with not only Opml but also PLAIN INDENTED text Keep it up                 Great

Author is very responsive to customer concerns No more inapp advertising in paid version He also is very dedicated to the outliner app Many updates throughout this year have increased functionality New options mean learning the differences and remembering them later This can take some time Many options are creatively inputted and this outliner is very professional Highly recommended              Frequent Updates additional options

I have found this app extremely useful for organizing ideas and managing complex hierarchies of tasks for planning I do however find done aspects of sliding and ogre gestures to invoke the rich functionality a bit perplexing at times              Very useful though UI can feel conplex

I having been using outlining software starting with my Apple II more than 25 years ago and this iPad app is the best outline tool ever They regularly update it with new and useful features I never got around to telling them about a feature that I wanted them to add but it just showed up in the the 300 version anyway I think they call it the Selected Cell Frame and it eliminates the need to swipe to enter a cell frame text page to edit it Much easier and just what I was looking for There is a little bit of a learning curve but once you get past it you never even have to think about how to do things                 Fabulous Outliner

Updated Review While file management is slightly obtuse the fact remains that the developer has promptly addressed a grave omission In its first version there was no way to save more than one file Now users can fully appreciate this innovative touch screenbased outliner on its outlining merits which are many Thanks to the developer and I hope he continues to finetune this already bestinclass app Original Review This app the paid version NOT the primitive free version is actually a very good start at creating an innovative touch screen outliner It functions differently from other outliners I own but once you get used to its gesturebased commands you start to like it After reviewing and practicing within its tutorial I was ready to start an outline Thats when I discovered there was no newpage button or directory to select already completed outlines Of course I contacted the developer assuming I simply didnt understand how to reveal some hidden menu Or that the software might have a bug He promptly responded by explaining that he hadnt designed those features and wasnt sure users care about storing more than one outline Ever He also mentioned something about a future version supporting Google docs I can only conclude that this effort is at present nothing more than a prototype and should not be sold as a finished app                 Fixed

As others have said UI takes getting used to Like the built in web server Allows me to do major revisions on my PC Havent figured how to interface with DropBox anyone know how              Good but needs UI improvements

I learned the Outline part of the program and created multiple outlines The Tutorial and instructions suggest the ability to save the outlines elsewhere 3rd and 4th screenshots above by choosing the Overlapping Papers icon in the menu Upon arrival at that screen I saw Tutorial in black and in red and New File in black None of these were my outlines so assuming they were test files and wanting a clean slate I deleted them at which point New File appeared again and again Nothing in the instructions discussed this I deleted them Upon return the outline screen ALL OF MY OUTLINES WERE GONE Thats bad guess I must have deleted them somehow when I deleted the New File documents Ill just use the touted Undo function to get them back Nope not available theyre gone forever No dialog box asked me are you really sure you want to voluntarily delete multiple outlines at the same time outlines you spent hours preparing and which the program renamed to New File and wont allow you to undo the deletion of If it had I would have said no which is what I suggest you say to this program until this issue is fixed and the instructions made more comprehensive Ironically I didnt even care about exporting my outlines I just wanted to get to know the program The relationship between ones created outlines and the files that are found on the export screen needs to be explained     Decent App wPoor Instructions

Each outline item can have a large amount of text behind the scenes You can rearrange and hierarchically folder items by dragging them around a much faster approach than cutting and pasting I found this far more useful than apps specifically marketed for note management                 Useful for notes and todo lists too

Excellent app very easy to use very simple and intuitive My only suggestion would be to remove the swipe to search ability as I rarely use it enough to warrant needing it so easily accessible and I often accidentally use it Would be better as a button somewhere                 Exactly what i needed

I have been using this product the paid version for several months and using it quite heavily for several different topic areas Im an academic and there are several areas where I find multilevel hierarchical outlining the most helpful way to represent ideas much more useful than conventional flat digital notepads I use the Outliner on an iPod touch for portability those many moments when Im not seated at a computer but want to capture some ideas from something Im reading or note down some thoughts in a cafe reading in a meeting at lunch with colleagues I back up to Dropbox and also occasionally transfer outlines to and from a Windows laptop using RTF format and Dropbox The Outliner allows other means of transfer as well and several other formats besides RTF The Outliner also works well on my iPad although I dont use it there as much The Outliner is very well designed Reorganizing the order of items and adjustments of heirarchical level of items is a matter of simple finger motions Onscreen size is adjustable by pinching or seperating your fingers Different outline levels are coded by color of bullets as well as signaled by indentation Collapsing or expanding an item is a matter of tapping near the bullet There is a useful date stamp feature There is a wide choice of fonts Indeed the Outliner is feature richit takes a while to discover them all Recently I noticed a minor bug easily worked around but I wrote to inquire and the bug was fixed in a couple of daysmuch appreciated SoIm a fan I certainly recommend this very handy and smartly designed app                 Intelligently designed feature rich and very effective

This is a great application I was hesitant to buy a 3 app with 1star reviews but it looked like EXACTLY what I needed The application is awesome It does exactly what the description and the screenshots say Its stable and I have not experienced any crashes To take full advantage of the apps features you have to read the instructions to determine how to make nested lists bullet points under a category etc At first I read through the instructions and realized there was a lot more doubletapping than Ive seen in other applications Once I understood the basics it was pretty intuitive and I jumped right in If this application looks like something you could use buy it and give the instructions a lookover This is a great tool Thanks for the great app                 Great App Does What Its Supposed To

A few requests though allow us to change from dots and arrows to numberslettersroman numerals and dots the loading thing when you first open the app is ugly It doesnt have to be there maybe something smaller or we can just wait instructions of which are always available Although I figured everything out it took me a while and im not sure everyone will be willing to figure it out fontcolorsize change Otherwise its a great app just a bit simple for the price                 I like the app

I tried 7 other outliners for drafting a complicated outline before this one and think this really gets the job done in a straightforward way and is the one I am using for my work You can easily connect it to dropbox so you can open OPML files on the desktop for bulk pasting and editing of text and then reimporting back into the iPad for further writing I encourage the developer to continue further work                 Great app

In many ways this is the best outliner in the app store although it has its quirks But I just upgraded to iOS 6 and it is crashing every two minutes Help Previous review This app allows you to take notes in outline form using gestures not buttons to move items up down in out add notes go to search increase font size It exports through dropbox into standard opml and the current experiment in exporting Word readable outlines in rtf seems to be working It allows some customization of fonts and has a small but useful set of icons like check boxes In short it is MUCH better than Carbonfin Outliner although not as beautiful than the much more expensive OmniOutliner OK the interface is somewhat bare bonesno beautiful animations here But the developer is actively improving the app and Im sure it will continue to get better The iPad is a great notetaker and using an outline is a simple way of getting more information hierarchy into your notes Put in a little time to learn the gesture set and everything the app can do and I think youll enjoy it              Touchscreen based outliner

After evolving from notes through a few list and outline apps this one is amazing The designer is great with email responses for questions and ideas Im hoping for a syncing feature in a future release but for now the Dropbox option will do I have gifted this to a stack of friends that love it                 Amazing

Not much to say other than it does the job and that I am very happy with it                 I like this a lot

I was greatly enjoying this app with all its features even telling my friends about it over the first two days But after syncing with Dropbox and trying to relaunch the application a few hours later it wouldnt open I rebooted my iPad several times reloaded Dropbox rebooted again but it still wont open I hope this problem gets resolved fast because this application has a lot of fun features     Cant Open App

I use this app every day Very intuitive The only thing I wish it had was the ability to password the entire app or an individual document Other programs like aNote have builtin password options              Love this app

I have been using this outliner for the past six hours and I have fallen in love with it Its killer feature is swiping to the left for full screen text editor which allows for distraction free writing Then when done a swipe right takes you back to the outline where you can reorder indent and unindent with simple dragging This is perfect for writing and reordering scenes All outlines can be emailed out in OPML format which a number of programs can read like Scrivener It just feels fluid and looks clean It forgoes bells and whistles like a file manager or importing images etc But for text based work it is a distraction free totally natural experience without bloat If you are doing any king of writing on the iPad be sure to give this app a try                 Simple and Slick with DistractionFree Writing

IPhone 5 iO6 working perfectly developer very responsive I use this app every day This app was exactly what I needed It has a very useful wifi interface so I have the option to enter data using my desktop or laptop You can import or export in 3 different file formats It has an intuitive hierarchical format I wanted simple without all the ridiculous features of other noteoutliner apps and this app delivered The only features I wish were added are the ability to add simple graphical notes diagrams etc and to sort alphabetically                 Great app simple yet elegant

I searched for an outlining app and downloaded a lot of After I learned the handling of the app I do not want to miss it This is one of the best easy fast and a lot of functionality You can save in different formats and get all your thoughts structured The only one I miss is a sync with Dropbox or iDisk to keep one file in synch with the iPad and IPhone work With this functionality I would rate six stars                 Great outlining App miss it on my Mac

In a former non iPad life I was used to Outlining on Bonsai for Palm It allowed pruning and grafting Well I just found this Simple Outliner and it does the important drag and drop functions I have not figured out if it does data backups or not but I am hopeful that the developer will continue to improve this great app Good work Developer message Make sure the app can save the data An import from txt filemwould be nice too              This is getting VERY close to just right

The combination of clever multigesturing support easy color coding and the ability to show an uncluttered list of 20 or more items on one screen makes this app my favorite for my giant list of tasks Also Ive easily combined my notes into the list so this one app now replaces two others Ive tried virtually every note and to do app and finally Im set Dont let the Simple part of the title fool you into thinking the app is feature poor either What Id love to see next is password protection for individual items and the ability to add simple checkboxes                 Excellent App

Pros I rearrange list items often so I really like the ability to rearrange them up down promote demote without having to enter an edit mode make changes then leave the edit mode it can all be done immediately with gestures Changing font size by swiping bottom edge is easy and great I also really like the ability to hide the menu bar and use the entire screen space for the list Cons The UI is boring the filessettings page is cryptic and online sync isnt available yet However I feel the program is currently quite good it has great potential and I sincerely hope the developers keep at it              It does several things very well

This apps simple UI is intuitive and direct just what I need to focus on the todo at hand rather than on a complex command structure The various gestures quickly became habitual and instinctive I love this app                 The Best for Me

A fully customizable listorder maker for anything you can think of I use this app all day every day After a few minutes of playing with this app youll realize how easy it is to use I get orders sent to a POPS device and cant print them out I transcribe the order to this app on my iPad from there I can send it to the iPhones of my staff the staff can read edit printemail return the results to me work has got lots easier mistakes are less the staff love it as they no longer have to deal with me face to face Ive tried all sorts of list makers in the past this is the only one I would recommend GET THIS APP you wont regret it                 Awesome App

a good app but you have to remember all the gestures assuming that you use it everyday this shouldnt be a problem but if you gonna use it once or twice a week you will have to read the tutorial every time to remember what swipe will do such function hence I find it not simple outliner a simple outliner would have used menu and submenus to be easy to use and eliminate the need to remember gestures        too many gestures to remember

Ive used this every day for years now Its quite good Im having problems with the latest version I dont know if its me or the app My typing is erratic using iOS 615 on iPod touch 4              Quite Good

This is exactly what Ive been looking for An easy portable infinite outline Great for project management Great for organizing thoughts Great for well OUTLINING Simple elegant and well thought out                 I LOVE THIS APP

Some nice UI features but its way to cumbersome to add new items You should be able to adjust your nesting level and create a new items while in input mode Takes way to many taps right now to be any good for taking notes during a meeting or presentation This could be fixed by adding a few buttons If the dev does add these features please dont make them gesture based Make it so I can create a whole document without taking my hands off the keyboard Its not that I dont like the gesture stuff here it just isnt always the most efficient way to work        Almost useful
