FalconGuides Scats and Tracks of North America A Field Guide to the Signs of Nearly 150 Wildlife Species A coast-to-coast guide to recognizing what critters went before you from North America s most respected publisher ...
Ive got a couple of these books from Falcon which I really like and have found really useful When I saw the free Backyard version of this app I had to get it My kids loved it but the number of species in it is pretty limited So I upgraded to this one which is basically the app version of the entire book but way better since you can navigate by track scat or species much easier than thumbing through pages in a book My favorite is the sightings feature and also the Google and Flickr image feature Cant do that with a book It also has a linked glossary which is helpful and a whole section called Tracking 101 which has a lot of useful info Awesome stuff Thanks Falcon                 Very cool app
I bought this app when it was at 13 dollars thinking this was going to be perfect My question is why arent there any images of an actual track or scat all I got for that price were drawings I cant even view an actual animal unless I have wireless connection Do the people that made this realize that when your in the wild you rarely have wireless service If you deleted half the animals in here that no cares about knowing like frog tracks or small rodents and concentrated on showing actual images stored in the app I would change my ratingAs it is now it needs alot of improvement        why no images
I cant thank Falcon Guides enough for releasing their series of Scat and Track guides as an easy to use application Ill use this often as a National Park ranger All of the content is stored locally so it works fine without a connection but if you are connected there are links to open up images inapp from Google and Flickr The interface is fairly easy to use and even includes a handy ruler This contains all of the content and detailed illustrations of the wonderful books but now is easy to search by scat and track type or through a searchable index The glossary and tracking tips are also very helpful And you can add personal sightings If you cant decide which of the regional guides to purchase get this one as it likely contains everything you need I compared my Scats and Tracks of the Rocky Mountains book to this North American app and every species was included plus about twice as many more My iPod Touch is now an essential outdoors companion Thanks Falcon Guides                 turn iPhone and iPod Touch into pocket field guide
85 mammals 35 birds 30 amphibians and lizards It would be nice to drop some of the birds and amphibians for more mammals such as domestic dog and domestic cat Seems to occasionally crash if you flip through All species too fast              Overall good but more species would be nice
Fantastic little app So much faster and easier than toting around a book I love all the pics that make it easy to go to the section you want Lots of details about the large variety of animals in the program Very user friendly The ruler is a great addition as is the ability to keep notes and photos of your own sightings We are frequent hikers in the Sierra Nevada mountains and will definitely be able to put this app to some good use Sure could have used it last month when we were snowshoeing up at Tahoe Saw several interesting tracks that day that we wondered about Looking forward to being able to having this handy next time we head out I also highly recommend the Falcon Guide Day Hike books Tons of great hikes The books cut through the sometimes annoying extra fluff found in most other hiking books and get straight to the point which is plenty of great hikes to pick from Great directions to the trailheads too I spent July 4th one year on a day hike to a beautiful secluded lake up in the mountains near Lake Tahoe Hiking back down the trail stopped and sat on a large rock watching the fireworks going off over Lake Tahoe Such a stunning view Totally enjoyed the hike the little hidden gem of water and the view of the fireworks Never knew about that place till I saw it in one of my Falcon Guide day hike books I probably have half a dozen books of hiking trails located within a few hours from home and half of those are Falcon Guides Love them                 Handy tool for hikers
This app is a bit pricey but is very well done I wish all my nature apps would be as good ones that I paid more for are not as useful Great app for any naturalist amateur or otherwise                 Well done
It needs actual images not images in which you cant tell the difference between a mountain lion and a jaguarundi or a grizzly bear and black bear It crashes too much        Good app but
