PyPad provides an implementation of Python running directly on iOS devices. The code uses the defacto python standard as created by the Python Software Foundation. This is wrapped in a very simple to use interface ...
This is a great idea but in practice it doesnt really deliver The current version is very unstable and crashes frequently It also is missing a number of important functions such as the ability to handle files user input or sockets Without these its not even very useful as a learning tool There does not seem to be any way to save scripts that you have written to run later which further limits its use     Note ready for prime time
Thank you Simplegui is amazing Fixed the standard modules thing this is great I am forced to believe that they read my review THIS APP IS FIXED                 AMAZING
It takes a couple minutes to get acclimated to the app The interactions are a little counter intuitive but it does EXACTLY what it says I was able to whip up a multimodule test within 23 mins and everything ran exactly as I had expected including several errors I tried to throw at it Excellent lightweight onthego editor to work through concepts when u have a little free time              Very nice
I am using this program to help me learn python I really only have one complaint the interpreter needs to be brought up to 322 That being said the interface is simple yet elegant All of the mentioned features work as advertised Also any issues with the app crashing appear to have been resolved It is a useful program for testing ideas and writing whole programs I like it Great work              Worth the money
Worked okay at first Now the app crashes whenever I push run Ive tried typical troubleshooting and deleting and reinstalling no change It seems the app needs an update to be functional again     Crashing every time I run the interpreter
I am a newbie to python With PyPad I can paste examples of python codes and modify to learn Its really amazing it could get so many functions working at the first release I really think this can be the best 199 I ever spent on apple store Thanks and really look forward for the updates by the way besides requests like interactive mode or more modules I hope to see the basic code window can show line numbers When I run big examples its kind of hard to debug especially for python new learner like me All in all this app is just wonderful for people to learn and experience python Thanks                 Awesome powerful tool
Interactive mode still constantly crashes and simpleguibuttonbox will display a modal window that CANNOT BE DISMISSED This forces you to manually kill the App Getting better but still needs lots of work     Still crashes
This app is a really cool concept but almost worthless without the ability to test out inputs from users I can get code to run in the output panel but when I tap down there to enter input the app closes Fix this and Ill change my rating to 5 stars Thanks        Input problems
This is a good app just to play around with the Python language and may be a fun toy app for beginners and veterans alike However there are several limitations that make it unusable for anything other than novelty First there is no saveload feature You have to copypaste code in from elsewhere Second it does not colorize or syntax check anything so it is just a text editor with a python interpreter Finally it crashed on me constantly just running a simple number guessing game that I wrote in a few minutes So if you are looking for a way to get some coding done on the move keep looking If you are just looking to play around and learn some Python this may be a good way to go but there are vastly superior applications available on the Mac and PC for free so unless you are just looking to play around with Python just on your phoneiPad you may be better off elsewhere Having said all of that it does fulfill the purpose that I wanted it for so for that I give it a thumbsup just be aware of the limitations              Good for very basic learning
Im glad someone is doing this but the current version crashes extremely often I hope this gets fixed        Its a start
Lots of crashing going on wthis app Good thing its only 2        Crashy
Very cool so far One quick thing I could be wrong but there doesnt seem to be a way to break an infinite loop Tried it and it froze the output              Great scratchpad good start
Seriously this is one of the main things I wanted the iPad for and was disappointed when there seemed to be little interest in creating it I use Python as a supercalculator where little arithmetic calculations can be expanded into complex Monte Carlo simulations and Id love to have that kind of functionality on the go This app doesnt exactly provide that functionality but it seems to be a start These are the things that it would need interactive prompt standard libraries like random which rely on future also useful for calculator use since one wants to always start with from future import division ability to have preloadable starter scripts mine would always start with from math import so I dont have to keep typing that it would be awesome to have numpy and matplotlib imagine being able to plot results from massive calculations on the go Strange that the os module is missing I hope is isnt an Apple limitation I wanted to learn something about how the iPad works The error messages showed that we live in var Weird           Something that Ive been looking forward to for a long time
I had hoped that someday I might have a real python sketchpad and then all of a sudden I did So worth the money for beginners or veteran pythonistas Thank                 What I have been waiting for
This app was a good idea and when it came out it delivered the best python emulator available on iOS However this 2012 release crashes whenever I hit enter I appreciate that there may not be enough money in this app to keep it alive It would be nice if there were a straightforward way of declaring an app to be abandonware     Crashes Prior version worked well
This is not worth the money Its basic has no intellisense doesnt render code has no TAB buttonuses spaces for indenting cant save files when leaving the modules screen and changing my orientation back to landscape all the windows go crazy Its really basic and disappointing The search for a good python IDE continues I guess Is there any way to get a refund     Basic and boring
Please dont bother this program crashes constantly on iPad 2     Crash happy
Right now the very first release this runs some basic Python and is fun to play with Hopefully more updates will follow because a lot of rough edges still need to be worked out no collections or functools module import random fails no interactive prompt no ability to save your code But you can import math make simple classes and print to the console List comprehensions work too The probably does have some educational value at this point Its also good for testing some simple algorithms              Congrats on getting this to work at all
PyPad is a great way to practice your python on the go It isnt the most practical thing to use because of iOSs key board lay out no Arrow keys so if you have to go to just the right spot its really hard Also I would LOVE if there were automatic indentions for If statements and so on Anyway amazing app keep up the updates              Pypad FTW
Is there away to run something like this lname rawinput strEnter your last name It prints Enter your last name But can not enter anything in the output Latest fix solved input crash Side note Wanting to learn python 3 This app is 27              rawinput
Too much missing Built in dir doesnt work Then try print timedict youll find output window doesnt wrap or scroll for that matter Exit and restart app and got multiple pages of the same error message CoreAnimation tried to allocate xxx bytes or something similar Wait until more of this works        Not yet ready for prime time
Fix the crashing bug I want to use it for my college class If thats fixed its well worth it              Great app but crashes
Every time I type some commands in the output area and hit enter the program ends abruptly Im using a bluetooth keyboard so I dont know if thats causing the problem But anyway this software is totally unusable as is     keeps crashing
I was hoping this app would give me a way to prototype short python scripts but it is too buggy and unreliable I can forgive the limited number of modules which is no doubt due to App Store restrictions and the GPL but at least the app itself and the core language should work well The app didnt crash in my testing but the layout got messed up with every reorientation of the device Worse the app doesnt seem to save when the app goes to the background Killing the app while in the background completely deletes your script And if you do manage to write a script before your data is erased there is no easy way to transfer it off the iPad Youll have to copy and paste each file into an email On the whole very disappointing Still waiting for a good python shell on iPad     Poor python shell
