"Best App for Handwritten Notes" - O`Reilly Best iPhone Apps "Using Dan Bricklin s Note Taker is a beautiful experience, as the app is a brilliant workaround to a formerly sticky situation. More important, it ...
Very useful and powerful app for what it does I dont think those who wrote the negative reviews understood what the app does There is a free version that you should try before getting the paid one It isnt a word processor but it is great for quick handwritten notes                 Excellent App
I must say that the iPad App has been a joy to work with So much so that I recently purchased the iphone app for when Im working outside of the office and didnt feel comfortable taking my iPad Well I was pleasantly surprised to find the transcript and typed note feature in the iphone app It would be even better if the transcript notes could be emailed along with the handwritten notes As I see it you can only make a great app better              Almost perfect Just needs folders
To illustrate last night I jumped out of bed and went to write down an idea for my iPhone app I did it in Note Taker fast easy and outstanding This is a great app that got even better with the upgrade                 Fantastic App
No more scraps of paper floating around I keep track of everything with this app For me this interface is much more intuitive than dealing with the miniature keyboard Dan Bricklin is still a genius                 Fantastic
Nice sp                 Nice App
It is overall noticeably smoother on my 3G iPhone now This program is the most comprehensive replacement for a paper pad youll find for the iPhone written by one of the worlds most influential computer programmers The new tagging system lets me use it as a true GTDstyle reference database for notes now Just what I needed WARNING This tool is somewhat advanced requires some time investment to learn Watch the video on the website to see it in action first to make sure the program is what you expect before buying                 20 Update is Superb
fake     um refund
Would like to see it updated for the iPhone 5                 Great app
I have never felt compelled to write a review before but this is one of the best and most promising apps ever Very well designed Now please add ability to export into a handwriting recognition engine like WritePad I would also like to create templates like forms which I could write on This program has the good bones for so much Very much worth the money                 Finally I Can Go Paperless Almost
So far so good Still in the getting used to it stagebut I think its going to be a keeper              Hubba hubba
I really like Note Taker I am using it to scribble down thoughts on the go My iPod Touch 2nd Gen is always with me and this app works well for my purposes I prefer scribbling to typing notes because when typing I always need to watch that I hit the right letters or need to hold and slide to get a special character while when I scribble my own writing might look bad to somebody else but it is always readable at least to me Also to me scribbling down notes it just more fun I tried the free version first and quickly decided to upgrade I think the free version is a fair offering and everybody interested in Note Taker should try it before buying I think Note Taker is a very good app but of course it might not be the app for you It is worth watching the videos on the website and going through the introduction I use tags to organize my notes For instance I tag notes work or personal and then I might attach another tag for a specific project At first I thought it might be nice to stack notes but now I think tags are powerful enough to get organized I was a user of Apples Notes app before getting Note Taker and have now completely switched over I am not using this app for sketches although it is possible to create simple drawings I think there are other apps better suited for that purposes              Very useful
Seems like it would be a good app if I could read the directions on how to use it I have a 6 and the help section is all jumbled up Please fix so I can see the directions        Help section glitch
I like the app but its lacking that it doesnt export the typed text with the hand written It also Looses on quality of the writing I have downloaded and tried many hand writing apps and this appears to be the worst Though the other features make it an excellent app It would be even better if it could make a chart and export it as a csv              Nice app but
After using the free sample of this app I immediately had to purchase it Ive tried many hand recognition apps on both the iPhone and iPad This is an excellent app when you need to quickly jot down a note save it email it etc The handwriting recognition is a bit slower than some apps but the additional features there are many far outweigh a minuscule delay The negative comments left seem to be made by people who werent willing to use the tutorials which are well written or their expectations were outside of the apps intended purpose                 Well thought out design and implementation
The interface is a little tricky but well worth the effort of getting to know I find myself using this app more and more everyday I used the Grandfather to the iPod Newton MessagePad years ago and loved it To be able to write on the screen again is like comin home Well Done              Love it
This is by far my favorite iPhone App It makes it very easy and convenient to take handwritten notes I use it as a journal to remember things I want to check out to compose my thoughts and to write little lists for myself It does require some time to learn how to use but once you know how to use it its a pure joy                 Fantastic
I have note taker HD for my iPad With the advent of the iPhone 6 Plus it makes all the sense in the world to give iPhone the ability to take full page notes just like the iPad I really hope that will roll out soon in another version of one of these apps           Great but
Layout is still iPhone 4Esque           Works but needs to be updated for iPhone 6 and 5
If possible the update made this even better than before Love it                 Update
It would be great tho if hand written text could then be converted to typed text for cleaner readability              Very Cool
In my job I take notes that are used during a debriefing period after the training or checking event I have gone paperless thanks to this app This app is perfect to take notes with Great scheme There is a learning curve and a fair amount of practice needed to master the app I found the tutorials nice and after a day or so of experimenting using it comes easy Very well engineered It has never crashed and seems very stable on the iPhone 4                 Exactly what I needed
I used this app a lot a few years back and I really liked the ability to write personal notes draw things if needed and stuff addendums parenthetically in between the lines None of this is as easy on typed apps where the notes all look the same unless you leave lots of white space Overall the Note Taker notes end up charming and personal even if writing them is slower than typing A while back the app became slow to start up on my 3Gs so I abandoned it for a while Now I have iPhone 4 so this app is faster and takes far less battery life to use can keep it open and take notes in meetings for 3 hours and only use up 20 of my battery whereas that would use up 50 on the 3GS Hmmm iphone 4 really is a lot better Perhaps I also should get a new car Now that I am using it again there are a few gripes nothing major 1 The update was an improvement but no updates since 2010 While writing there is now a lag if you write too fast and it registers your finger when you are already half way through a letter so you sometimes have to rewrite a few letters Forces you to slow down not necessarily bad but probably needs optimization for the current iOS 2 It would be nice if instead of a single note card for each note you could just keep writing and the app would just take you to the next page ie please let us write on the back of the card 3 Sometimes i like to write on picture or at least attach a picture to the note This would also be nice if we were to email someone a note attaching a picture would allow us to turn it into a postcard There are postcard apps out there but I dont know one that lets us write like a real postcard the way this one does Dan Bricklin I hope you do these few requests If you can i guarantee to gift this app to all my friends Well maybe not all that would cost me like 150 Ok fine Ill send it to ALL of them Are you working on something else Please dont say you have retired              Needs a few things to be great
Makes me want a stylus for my iPhone                 It actually works and its only going to get better
Ive run my life by 3x5s for yearsaddresses websites birthdays budget cards in my wallet card n pen in my pocket at all times Wanted to go techy buy couldnt deal with 3x5 withdrawal insecurity Then I found this app My beloved 3x5s on my touch NEEDS colored ink or colored highliter and agree with other reviewer ability to choose ink or type on startup ADVICE take the tutorials and watch the videos to see everything this app can do                 I SAID GOODBYE TO 3x5s
I read a lot of the reviews of this app before I purchased I am not sure what all the people are calling great about this app It is horrible     A little confused
I have used a lot of note taking apps and this is the one that just works Perfect for taking notes any time any place works on the street or in the middle of the night The app shows a lot of thought on how people take notes and from a software legend                 Just the right app for quick notes
After using the HD version on my ipad which I loved this one looks like a toy           Not as good as the HD version
Nice app One of a kind Needs a few enhancements selectable default rendering size option to startup with new note option to type note so I can bury the iPhone notes app Very useful though              Note taker
Dont like it Awkward to use and not worth the money I am deleting it     Not Worth It
I carried tiny notecards in my pocket with a little pen for years It served as a way to capture stuff in my GTDbased system Now I just need to carry a pen for those special moments when the server at the restaurant gives me a dry one The uniquely ingenious UI on this app makes all the difference Add a feature to let me set a default tag for new notes and this app would be nigh perfect                 The UI is pure genius
This is so far an excellent program solving the problems of previous apps with digital ink A lot of forethought went into this app and it certainly shows I have already implemented it as my número uno input app and I have found no faults so far I have been using digital ink for many years with tablet pcs and pocket pcs and finally now the iPhone Great work mr bricklin this is as good as it gets Dr Sellinger                 Amazing program
this is exactly what i was looking for a way to replace my notebook i take many notes at work from meetings to calls and other items the ability to tag gives me the option to search my notes over various criteria what i wasnt able to do with my physical notebook i would like to see the ability to add tasks by note and to be able to tag those tasks otherwise this is a great app              goodbye to my notebook
I tried three notetaking programs for the iPhone Evernote myScript memo and Notetaker They each do different things well Evernote is a good note organizing program MyScript does OCR This program is the fastest and most effective way to get record a note on your iPhone I highly recommend Notetaker but also strongly recommend you go though the tutorials                 Great program for the iPhone
Ive had this app on my iPad for a year I use it every day Its a great app I bought it for my phone too I really wish there was a folder system for your pages you can tag them but folders would be great There must be a simple reason that it cant be done because every thing else youd like to do is in there Buy it youll like it                 Its the best one of its kind
Amazing Firstly Id like to say that this app is indeed compatible for the itouch just to counter a previous reviewer I have a couple of noteapps but they do require the use of the keyboard This makes quick notetaking difficult Ive often wished that notetaking on the itouch was as fast as using pen and paper Now with this app it is I recommend taking the excellent tutorial and then youre ready to go A polished and professional UI and usability is simple and intuitive Thank you to the developers for this excellent app I LOVE it                 Just what Ive been looking for
This is a great piece of software I can get a lot of info on one page It is easy to use but has some very sophisticated features I just deleted Jotter which I used for quick notes and lists Note takers best feature is that you use the whole screen to write not just the bottom of the screen If you want to use handwriting but have it converted to text try 7notes Premium I used it to write this review                 Best quick note app
This app needs a way to organize notes that doesnt require labeling each one with a title using the keyboard I certainly dont organize my handwritten notes this way How about adding the ability to scroll through the notes as images in other words the notes themselves rather than their titles That would make this app a viable alternative to my piles of postit notes One other problem the gray bar used in autoadvance is too sensitive Often times when I dot an i or cross a t while that bar is displayed the stroke is interpreted as a new word even when the stroke occurs well to the right of the gray area Only strokes within the bar itself should have this effect Otherwise a very useful application           Pretty good but
This is an awesome app I use it all the time including at work One thing that would be handy is to have this linked to a Handwriting recognition app like Evernote Instead of emailing PDF files to Evernote if we could just click on something like Submit to Evernote that would be great Otherwise an awesome app I even use the iPad version if the App              Great App needs another way to send notes
This is a great app and for the price its well worth it on a side note this should be included on the iphonetouch as a basic app by apple enought said good app                 an app that is well worth it
Note Taker is a wellthought and working app with apparently active support No glitches or annoying behaviors caused by lazy programming If you want a truly useful app for notes this may be the only one I cannot take typed notes quickly with the other note apps For 2 you cant go wrong Saying that there are improvements I hope Dan will make 1 Sketching Improvements a Include line straightening curve smoothing and snapto points My drawing skills are similar to what I see in the Note Taker videos sure its acceptable to remember something for later but wouldnt it be great to have nice looking sketches Note I dont want to have to pick a straight line or curve I should be able to handdraw those and it will straighten and smooth them automatically b A few colors maybe dashedsolid lines 2 Include photos and audio on the note page 3 OCR handdrawn characters I know this was problematic for a long time maybe it still is but for instance the Dragon folks do an amazing job translating speech into text So maybe handwriting or handprinting could be OCRed              What it does it does well
Works well Follow tutorial Just wished I had thinner fingers                 Wow it really works
Why is the drawing so laggy on the iPhone 4 You seem to be having trouble optimizing for the A4 since the iPad version shows similar problems recording smooth pen strokes Disappointing        Slower on iPhone 4 than 3Gs
I just deleted it It is awkward to use        Not very practical
This App in the iPad HD version is great but in the new iPhone 6 and 6 plus It look terrible The UI is bad looking for the new iOS 78 Please fix this issues     Needs to be updated
Best app Worth the money and easy to use                 Best ever
This is the most amateur and pointless app i have ever downloaded The line strokes are slow and laggy even though I have an iPhone 3GS The user interface is really complicated and the description is very misleading There are free apps out there that do a far better job than this     Waste of time
Easy to learn great tutorial Love this app for map drawing and such will gladly get the full version now Worth the money                 Very Well Done
Well that was a waste of time and money Probably the most cumbersome interface of any app I have ever tried CANNOT write or sketch over a jpg or pdf CANNOT mix type and freehand in same document CANNOT change color or lineweight The only good feature is the ability to send multiple pages in a pdf but the pages are not worth sending Just not worth the time or money There are better apps such as Sketchbook from Autodesk Very disappointing     Clumsy and limited
This app rocks the house I take my school notes on it Its perfect because in my engineering classes I have to take notes with lots of equations and diagrams One page ends up being enough space for about a period of notes if Im conservative with space Then I email into evernote for better organization and searchability Some things that need help line smoothing The writing does end up being a little rough so if something could be done to smooth out the lines that would be awesome My writing ends up looking about like that on the tutorial video organization I know the iPad version allows you to staple pages together and would like to see that feature here color Diagrams could be much easier to interpret if different colors were available copy and paste Obviously this has to be done differently than on a word processor Just allow me to draw a closed loop and move all the writing in that loop to somewhere else import PDFs Again the iPad version has this and I think it would be a really handy feature to have Even without these changes the app was well worth the 2 With these features I would easily pay more for it Hint for those looking into the app try the free version if you havent The functionality on there is plenty for most peoples needs I just felt it was worth it for the extra functionality for me and I felt the developer deserved the money for a well thought out and executed app              Awesome
This app has a great balance between featurerichness and simplicity This makes it useful for note taking as its name implies Its easy to get used to writing with it and note taking is quick and easy I think this apps greatest strength is its fidelity to the experience of taking simple notes on a 3x5 card Those who I see complaining about it not being essentially an image editor either need to just find a different app or are possibly missing the point Note Taker has good design values and does its intended job well                 Good balance
