A great tool for the US But it has been useless to me for two big hiking trips in the Canadian Rockies When Neotreks bought this they told users that they had plans to expand the available maps to include Canada but theyve failed to deliver on this           Needs Canadian maps

This app is great 30 a year seems kinda high though especially when they still havent made simple updates like resizing the screen to fully fit the iPhone 5           Great hiking app

Its tough to rate this app On one hand the map content is great The maps are very useful for navigation on the trail That said the app itself is absolutely terrible The UI is dated and poorly designed There are bugs and glitches galore Most notable the app wont stop trying to download points of interest every time I launch it even when Im out of cell phone range Bottom line the app works but just barely I truly wish a decent developer would buy this map data and make an app worthy of the content     Great maps terrible app

I was an Accuterra fan as well Thats life Neo treks is still great it could use a few minor improvements but its by far the best iPhone app for hiking and mtn biking The topos are awesome and the features are really good My favorite feature I can upload kml files right to the maps so it is impossible to get lost on a hike or ride So awesome Please fix the poi message thing Its kind of annoying Thanks Neo Treks                 Love this app

NetTreks is pretty good The map content is much easier to read than many other maps for topo terrain Two things bug me a bit First when close up on an area the trail maps arent all that accurate I found some other content available for other maps that have more accurate trail lines But since there are some that are worse this is not a huge issue When navigating Emigrant Wilderness off trail along the side of a rocky mountain more of a steep 2000 foot hill it took much longer to find the trail again because the trail line didnt accurately show how the trail zigzagged The second issue is a bigger annoyance for me For those of us who are willing to use up space on our devices for offline maps there should be larger batch download options For instance Id like all of California downloaded in base and max detail Every time I switch phones or do a reset of some kind all the downloaded maps are lost and I have to start the process all over again Its highly time consuming to do this but I go backpacking from the Tahoe region through Carson Iceberg through Emigrant Wilderness Stanislaus Yosemite and as far south as Mt Whitney and Joshua Tree and do a bit of hiking along the coast Penninsula and Mendocino region Eureka and down by Pismo Beach area so I should be able to just download all of California in one shot as I lose that data a few times a year Other than that this is a great piece of software Tracking and waypoints works well zooming in is reasonably fast map coloring is fairly easy to read If the batch download becomes available Ill resubscribe next year If not there are other tools that are not as good as NeoTreks but are much easier to download maps for so Ill probably become lazy and cancel my subscription              Good but want batch downloads

I love this it great app Would like to see measuring capability and more land marks like ghost towns Just get it its worth it                 Great map app

I was a purchaser of the previous version of this app AccuTerra The developer has removed functionality of the app so I can no longer use it Ever buy a pencil and have the manufacturer show up and snatch it from you only to try selling you their new model     Software abandonment

I will be asking for my money back for this app Maps bad downloads of maps rare and timeout constantly I am quite sure there is no support happening anymore fore this app Sad because before these fools took over it was good     Horrible DO NOT BUY

Ive used this since it was released by the prior owner Accuterra The maps are great the tracking features are decent The problem is it loses maps I download a tile a national forest map and a few days later theyre gone from the app To make matters worse NeoTreks has no support Just a basic user manual and FAQs on their website I cannot go into the woods not knowing if maps will continue to reside on my phone or not Very disappointing Update still no bug fixes and now NeoTreks wants more money to access maps Ive already paid for Not only is the app forcing an update of my subscription but its also blocking access to maps Ive already downloaded if I dont pay more     Was a really good app

I never leave for a trip without this app Whether it is biking hiking or camping being able to download maps is fantastic                 A great tool

Like the other reviewer posted this used to be a terrific app now its garbage As AccuTerra this app was one I could trust while hiking the Appalachian Trail Now with new owners it seems the maps for the AT havent been updated since 2009 Hello its 2015 and in many places the AT has been relocated to combat the forces of erosion and to make the AT hiking experience more enjoyable but the app hasnt been kept up to date Recently 4115 I was using the app while following the AT on Bear Mountain in NY the app took me way off trail and got me lost in the woods Stay away from this app it is now just for entertainment purposes only and NOT to be trusted on the Appalachian Trail Maybe they have kept other areas upto date but probably not Stay away and dont download this is a bad app     NeoTreksGPS Dont trust it for the Appalachian Trail

No support I have nothing but problems with this app since neotreks took over Lost my grandfathered subscription even though was not supposed to and now my subscription has been assigned to wrong email address and I CANNOT GET ANY SUPPORT FROM THIS TERRIBLE COMPANY     Worst company

Theres nothing there without purchasing a subscription Trail mapping with no Appalachian Trail no Mountains to Sea Trail Nothing in a National Park     Requires paid subscription

The ondemand HD tiles are the perfect way to manage the volume of data this app can present You only download the tiles you need Im not aware of any other app for trail maps thats as flexible Most of the bad reviews seem to be related to the subscription fee Which I can understand because I was one of the users that paid fullprice 10 for this app when it was called Accuterra BUT that old version is no more this is a new developer and hes grandfathered in the old users for at least a couple years IMO that is a better outcome than having the app disappear Dont forgot the old version was abandoned and hadnt been updated in a year                 Still nothing else like it

I agree I had Accuterra paid for maps saved hikes in my library and now I cant even buy maps to replace the one ones I already paid for App is basically useless too bad because it was a good map app service     No longer good

The maps on NeoTreks are awesome I was a former accuterra user that was grandfathered into NeoTreks and hadnt really noticed any ill effects of the transition until the March update The app no longer lays breadcrumbs consistently This is true for city and wilderness Ive experimented by turning cellwifi on and off to no avail When Ive written customer support in the past concerns were promptly answered but the latest issue has gone over a month with no response Im worried that support for the app is about to die If the bugs are fixed 5 stars           Was great having issues with update

The pure scale of this app must be a nightmare for the developers but they have managed pretty well in the past The POIs are no longer loading after the update The rest works just fine Im on the grandfathered system and Im wondering if thats the issue                 Having some issues

Accuterra was BEYOND wonderful NeoTreks beyond horrible     Horrible

For 10 per year you can download a map for anywhere in the United States Considering that a Trail Illustrated map costs that much this is a screaming deal I just used it on a hut trip to plan backcoutry skiing around the hut Toggling between topo and satelite views we were able to find awesome areas with amazing tree skiing by locating the areas with the thinnest trees and linking together open areas Those skiing without NeoTreks ended up getting stuck in thick woods I think the satelite view only works with cell coverage which we were lucky enough to have at the hut but even without the satelite view it is an amazingly useful tool I also use it alot when I am working out of town to download and find mountain biking trails that I havent riden before Much easier and less expensive than buying a new map every time Love it                 Great App

Not only do they charge 20 for a map the download then rarely works And of course there is way to get a refund Further they pulled an additional scam on their previous users They first said that original users are grandfathered in for two years but then when you open the app it says map update is available So you click on the update button and the update is to erase your maps and then point you to the 20 registration to reload them Apple needs to get after these scammers     Pure scammers

The trailmaps in the Parks are fantastic Used it on a skiing hut trip recently and the coverage for the national forest showed the FS road numbers and everything I had a login issue recently and email support and someone got back to me on a Sunday and fixed my password Thats good service IMO              Works great for me

I purchased this app back when it was accuterra and then it was bought Ever since it was bought I have had problems with maps staying on my device I have had to reload many times and each time it seems I have to deal with reregistering or paying more money to keep what I paid for originally Decided to look for a new app     Used to be good

I switched over from accuterra after they shut down the server and it stopped downloading new maps I tried Neotreks for the first time this week The other reviews seemed to imply it lost maps or maps are unavailable without signal Not The Case I cant find the nice trail highlighting and naming with any other gps app Its a little more expensive 10 a year but its just like Accuterra                 Accuterra

Sure did enjoy what it used to be before it was hijacked in its current state My initial subscription just ran out which was the only thread that kept me hanging on This was the final nail in the coffin and I gladly delete the app on my phone for a renewed and better option My suggestion spend your money elsewhere     Was greatonce upon a time

This app is apparently not supported anymore Ive been trying to download map tiles from their server and all I get anymore is unable to process request Save your money for another app this one IMHO is on its way out Pretty disappointed considering how much I loved it when It was accuterra and how many people I told about it Since I submitted this the server is now responding and downloading maps again Ill raise my rating to three because thats the only real issue Ive had           Circling the drain

Sophisticated map program that I have seen no equal to for offline hiking maps but has some bugs that make it annoying It seems to need to download position information every time it is opened that gets stuck all the time I think the info is the nearby map catalog packages you use when downloading maps for your area The reason it gets stuck varies but is at least partly related to poor signal and who never encounters poor signal when hiking It leaves the download bar on the screen and once stuck never completes even if a signal is found           Useful App but has annoying Bugs

Very detailed maps with points of interest such as campgrounds trailheads and trails peaks great for being out of cell range and exploring                 Great app

Like others I started with Acuterra and was reasonably satisfied but not overly thrilled with it With the changeover to Neotreks GPS I had no problem with the app or downloading maps at all We hike a lot of trails here in western NC and have found even little known USFS trails to be covered by the app and EVEN MORE ACCURATE THAN MY DELORME GPS We love it and rely on it often                 Fantastic

Forget Garmin DeLorme Magellan or any other GPS units that will cost you hundreds of dollars from an outdoors store Download this app now Great tracking Great photo integration Great choice of maps and easy to use Great storage of your treks A must have if you are a hiker walker or outdoor enthusiast I owned this when it was Accuterra and the transition was smooth and painless Customer support is superb                 Better than GPS units from an outdoor store

The complaints in many of the lowerrated reviews dont make sense and must have been written by people who simply refuse to read directions I routinely use this app as I did the version by the former app owner in hiking backpacking and hunting and have used it nearly flawlessly in the backcountry in Ohio Indiana Kentucky Tennessee North Carolina and Wyoming Ive only had two issues 1 A problem with transition to my free twoyear subscription under the new owner was quickly managed by very responsive customer support and 2 When Apple recently replaced my iPhone under warranty my former saved adventures failed to transfer over from backup I think they were from the discontinued app I love this app and expect to use it for years As to the carping about cost app writers have to make a living and must charge something for their services as do I and I assume the people who are carping about paying And the app is adfree              Very Happy

They claim its a free app but when you try to zoom in the map disappears and they want you to buy a subscription Dont bother downloading unless you only need a GPS that shows the whole state on the farthest you can zoom in     Not really free

Im not subscribing again until we get another update This used to be the best hiking app there was on the App Store but now there are many other options out there Until we get another update I am done     No update in 2 years

First this app has the best maps of any app Ive used If you are a through hiker or anything more than casual hiker THIS is the app to get I hike 200 times a year I use all the apps Now for the need to fix 1 App does not track in the background on GoogleApple Maps only on Neotrex maps 2 App undercounts by about 5 compared to other GPS so if you are using for distance tracking keep that in mind This could be fixed by allowing userselectable breadcrumb accuracy 3 Appears to exaggerate the altitude Yes its expensive the first time Id like to see it record data more often than thirty seconds It needs a user selectable recording step It takes a LONG time to download maps in this thing they are large files It cannot be done in the background Cannot queue maps either Need a better solution such as purchase maps and download through iTunes A way to exchange and store recorded trails besides snapping a pic with screen capture Fix these things and five stars for sure           Has BEST maps but needs some work

Sick of seeing the haters and unfair low star ratings on this app because people cant follow directions or are upset about a change in terms If youre an old AccuTerra user and this fits yougoodbye Its your loss Ive had this app from the AccuTerra days and Im here to stay The new company could have just kicked us to the curb and relaunched as an entirely new app but they didnt So get over it already If youre a new user or someone looking for a fantastic GPS app then youve come to the right place I use this app constantly I spend a great deal of time in the back country Be it the National Parks National Forests or Wilderness areas this app is on and serving as guide and journal Its incredibly accurate and simple to use Some of the ways I use this app 1 Tracking a hike Not only for mileage elevation time etc but it also serves as a guide when youre breaking new trail or bushwhacking and might need to find your way back This has come in handy several times when I was mountain biking in an unestablished area and the light was fading and I needed a quick exit 2 Downloading waypoints I love taking photos of remote area waterfalls I find locations on the web and download the waypoints When Im in the area I load the waypoint and hikenshoot Also helpful for other landmarks or hikes 3 Maps I have a huge collection of topos I no longer need them because I can download just what I need as I need it When Im finished I can delete the map to make room for another trip in another location 4 Library There are a few trails Im blazing right now and by tracking my progress saving it to my library then loading it on my next push Im able to keep a record of my progress and find my way back to the last bit of trail made Customer support Ive sent a number of emails to the company some suggestions some questions and some bug notices In every case Ive received a reply When I needed help beyond the info I could find in the guide or FAQ they provided it So what I dont like or would like to see improved 1 The way Points of Interest POIs has been implemented is clunky and should be improved It is an improvement over the old way but it needs further development As it is now it downloads at inopportune times and overlays the Track and Pause buttons 2 Default map on open should be current location Current default is California 3 I would love to have a compass over lay that could be turned on and off Even better would be the option to orient the maps by turning the phone with a compass overlay 4 I would love the ability to load a previous tracked trip and have NeoTreks add to it by tracking new mileage                 Hands down best GPS map app available

Lo and behold lost everything and they want me to buy it all over again in subscription form Cannot access previous purchases Very shady practice do not purchase anything with intent to keep what you pay for Old review ll admit Im peeved about the change from purchased maps to subscription based service The justification seems reasonable however What is not is the repeated crashing and difficulty getting at my maps A dl of the Appalachian trail map 900 or so mb took an incredible amount of time yesterday Not sure how long the old app will remain in commission but DONT UPDATE DONT DELETE especially if you have a trip soon The old app might last until it becomes incompatible with ios so keep the maps you already have downloaded and you may experience less bugs and no inconvenience when accessing already purchased maps     Update to previous review

This app is awesome I just went out for a hiking trip Wayback in the woods without any service whatsoever and was able to find my way in an area ive never been before                 Awesome for places without service

Man do I miss accuterradoes anyone know of a comparable app The accuterra maps showed obscure trails and worked great for me from California to North Carolina Its a real shame     Any ideas

I absolutely love how this app is laid out After searching forever for a way to have unlimited maps for all my adventures looked at GPS mapping software GPS chips etc this app hit the spot Only 10 a year for any map I need LOVE IT Before any trek its just a few seconds to select what areas I want to download maps for and WHALAH I have everything ready to go on my tiny iPhone I dont even need service to use the maps best feature The only downside is I need to buy a small solar charger for my first outdoor electronic device besides my flashlight                 Best app on my iPhone

Has very good maps and lots of trails When used on a MTB makes a Garmin look like an etch a sketch Unfortunately hasnt been updated or bug fixed for years Would be a killer app if they fixed Battery life with iphone is shorter than a Garmin However with an external battery you can get 8 hours           Better than Garmin

Ive been a user since Accuterra And now this app is full of bugs Now the maps wont download Its stuck at 0 Its a terrible shame I loved this app now its useless Im in Sedona trying to download maps to hike on wifi and nothing No updates in about 2 year Going somewhere else     Terrible shame

This navigation app only orients the cursor the map is always facing the same way So if you go east the cursor rotates and you go right on the map South and the cursor points down It has offline maps which are great for standing somewhere and figuring out which direction to go by rotating your phone but constantly needing to point the top of the phone North is not worth it Will never use again     Map only points north

I was using this app for years on my iPhone 4s and loved it but just recently upgraded to an iPhone 5 and cant get the app to work Ive gone into the Settings and ensured that my email and password are recognized Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the app but everytime I go into Mapview Maps I get the message that it could not validate my subscription Id GLADLY pay the 10 again to make it work but I cant find any way to purchase the subscription VERY frustrating as hiking season is fast approaching Update 4414 I emailed their customer support one month ago regarding my issues with the app and havent received a reply yet Because I liked the actual app so much when it worked I decided to just delete it install it again and pay the 995 again for a year subscription However after doing all this including willingly double paying Im having the exact same issue with the app It appears this app might not be being supported or updated any longer as their literature refers to IOS5 Very frustrated Update 4714 Again absolutely no reply Pretty clear that this app isnt being updated or supported anymore Too bad because it was such a great app Time to get a refund from iTunes and find an app thats still supported Updated 419 I finally got the app working myself For some reason the email address I registered with and paid a subscription fee with was the problem I created a new login with a different email address and everything works again Also I found a way to contact NeoTreks with an online submission screen so the original submission wouldnt be email based from an external address and I heard back from them that they are still supporting the app I replied with my issue and never heard back again Very poor support Id love to know which app the other reviewer was referring to that he likes more     Loved it when it worked

If I could give 12 a star I would It may be a great app but having been a former accuterra user the migration over getting this new app to run has been a major pain in the arse     Not Impressed

These guys at Neotreks came along and absolutely RUINED Accuterra I stopped using it and prefer a different app now but before NeoTreks took it over Accuterra was an awesome app Even this latest version is riddled with bugs that Ive informed them of and they dismiss them as not reproducible even though Ive sent them videos with how to reproduce them iPad iPod iPhone 4 iPhone 4S iPhone 5 they exist on every device The program was slightly buggy before they took it over but these guys made it 10 times worse Besides now theyre going to start charging a subscription to access their maps which really arent all that great compared to some other apps that have a higher initial cost but no subscription fee because they can use Google terrain maps and OpenTerrain which are WAY better than NeoTreks maps And to release a new version well over a month after the iPhone 5 is released that DOESNT support the screen on the iPhone 5 is ABSURD Seriously find a different app to buy The only reason I keep it installed is because I watch for updates and hope it will get better because it used to be a great app        Still terrible
