iPFD is a revolutionary primary flight display application for iPhone 4. iPFD leverages the inertial sensors (angular rate and acceleration) and magnetometer in the iPhone 4 to calculate a custom attitude and heading solution using ...
This is a fun app Im a pilot and I enjoy flightrelated applications Of course this is not a real flight instrument but it does respond the way a real PFD does omitting only airspeed and altitude displays which obviously are not available with iPhone hardware Maybe the developers could simulate these with GPS data in a future version thatd be neat I could also imagine this app being used by students andor their instructors to demonstrate or practice on the basics of PFD symbology in a way thats much more tactile than the average PC simulator Being able to actually manipulate the phone and watch the display respond is much more natural to me than playing with something on a stationary computer One caution its very hard to step on the ball center the inclinometer while banked without really being in a moving vehicle Conversely I dont think older iPhones are likely to work as well as the iPhone 4 in a moving vehicle because they only have an acceleration sensor rather than the accelerometer gyro combo in the iPhone 4 Ill look forward to taking this up in a plane as a passenger to see how it compares to the real thing                 Fun Could be a learning tool too
I tried this app in the back of an airliner on an iPhone 4 It did not work On acceleration it pitched up 10 degrees In banked turns it remained wings level There is also no calibration mode I do not recommend this app right now I also would like speed altitude and vs tapes linked via gps        Gyro
This is more than just fun You should add GPS info such as ground speed on the left and GPS altitude on the right GPS COG inside the compass rose and a record mode with the camera Output video and pitch bank and heading information Great job for only being out less than a month                 Wow
seems to work pretty well I really like the heading indicator BUT it desperately needs a zeroing tool or callibrator Otherwise it is very hard to use unless held perfectly              good
I am a Commercial pilot and I have looked at many of the apps on the iphone that claim the abilities of this app Finnally with the iphone 4 we have the ability of full AHRS even if its with non aerospace grade sensors This is absolutely the best that it gets to date with the iphone I love this app and definitely recommend it to my friends                 Nice app works well
Elegant and simple Primary Flight Display PFD simulator Im a pilot and certified flight ground school instructor When I saw this app on the store I recognized its utility as a great enhancement to my teaching I was pleasantly surprised at the clean graphics and realism of the display symbology Ive been using this app with students during ground school to simulate flight maneuvers and explain aircraft dynamics My students all pay attention when I demonstrate turning in circles at varying bank angles and when I rollout at specified headings This fantastic teaching aidapp provides a real time hands on learning experience It is a MUST HAVE item for my students I would love to see the ability to record a video with the PFD overlay in the next version of this app                 Robert CFI and ATP
