Garden GrowPlanner from Mother Earth News, for iPad

I originally gave this APP a bad review but since the last updates it has improved greatly I am very pleased with the developers support and continued interest in improving their product Thank you                 Updates are great

Was excited about this app but its been nothing but a problem Customer service was personable but not helpful just said to reinstall the app Said these problems never happened Frustrating Waste of time money until bugs are fixed Lots of bugs now     Didnt work from beginning

I am using this application to create local currency for my farmers market errr I mean a square foot vegitable garden And I must say it works very well with what I need it to do Yes there are still some glitches but come on folks Microsoft and Apple didnt get it perfect the first time either Be patient At least the ME folks listen to us when we have suggestions and attempt to incorporate them in the next update IMHO That in itself is worth the cost of the application WAY TO GO MOTHER EARTH Keep up the good work and updates Im with you for the long haul                 Square Foot Gardeners take a look at this application

I was having a pretty good time with this app until the latest revision Sure there were a few things which Id like to handle differently and certainly I can always come up with it would be neat if but basically its a really handy app Until the latest revision Now I try to open it but all I get is the opening splash screen That displays for about 15 seconds and then it just shuts down Without opening it I dont know another good way to communicate this problem so Im hoping this posting can get me somewhere somehow Please note this is NOT really a condemning review Ive been enjoying the app and am just now having a hiccup I hope to report back soon that my problem is resolved and add the probably 4star rating which the app more properly deserves Update 1130 Out of the blue it just started working I have no idea what has change but Ill take it Modifying from 1star to 4              This version wont open

Love this ap Really helping me stay organized this year Custom growing season based on my location helping me plant my seedlings at the right time in the greenhouse and ground Easy reference guide to planting maintenance and companions Easy to change and move my plan before I get started I love it 3stars because there really are some bugs in the ap that are frustrating Settingspreferences never seem to stick when I change them No ability to alter my garden size once started Bugs in the copy and paste function Selection and movement tools are difficult to use with precision I expect many of these issues to be resolved in future updates Ill be 5stars all the way when that happens Once the bugs are fixed there are so many more cool things they will be able to do with this program expanded companion guide layered plantings etc Huge potential Looking forward to seeing this program take off           Huge potential

first you pay 799 then you find out you have to pay 25 a year to keep it for more than 30 days DO NOT BUY     rip off

This is the first app Ive ever bought and the last It will not allow me to do most of the features I cant even access all the reference material and when I tried to contact customer service it drops my e mail and shows two layers of options and material on one screen please contact me so we can resolve these issues     The worst app ever

I like the app and am going to continue using it because I can map out my garden and have notes on when I want to plant what It even gives me specific varieties from seed catalogs But the varieties arent all inclusive For example they have the exact variety of leek that I am planting including the seed company But there are no varieties for large tomatoes So that is a little frustrating By far the worst part about the app is that it freezes every time I try to send an email to customer support It recently changed all of my plantingharvesting dates to show that I should be harvesting melons right now at the beginning of March I feel like it should work better than it does but there arent many apps out there that will do what it does So Im stuck with its limitations for now           Good but buggy

This app can best be described as glitchy and unreliable I love the concept and the features the creators are going for but Ive spent 2 frustrating days battling this thing Even emailed with their customer service the response was quick so they get 1 star for that and every suggestion they gave me Id already tried with no success In its present form this app is a complete waste of 799 and Mother Earth News should be embarrassed to have their name associated with it And dont be fooled Garden Plan Pro is by the same developer those reviews would indicate that these are the same products     Has potential but not worth a penny currently

Does not sync Broken crashes still broken touchy buttons sometimes swings around tHen other times wont All in all not ready for prime time release If and when it works as promised Ill be happy     Empty promise

I like it when it worked Now cant even get it to run since the update to the iPad OS        Crashes all the time

This app has such promise If only it wasnt full of soooo many bugs The irony of it crashing when I was trying to email tech support was not lost on me I really hope the developers address these issues I would think that if theyre going to charge that much they wouldve put out a more reliable product Ive already spent my money but would advise you to hold onto yours        Disappointed

This app worked really well until I decided to get fancy and create an account so the app would be able to back up my plan When I did the app would whir and whir and whirtelling me to wait for hours while it backed my plans up to the cloud I contacted customer support and while they helped me find a workaround use the app only while in airplane mode they have not yet released an update to address this bug As for ease of use I find it to be a really intuitive app Of course I can think of some mods that would make things easier to use like selecting all of a particular SFG plants on a plan at once to modify configurations but overall I like the app It just doesnt get more than 2 stars until they fix this annoying bug        Only works in airplane mode

First of all I must start off by saying that I LOVED this app I used it without incident for almost two years planned ALL of my plantings this way Having said that Id rate the app 5 stars if I could I contacted support back in May because the app crashed while editing one of my garden plans That happened from time to time before but when it did I would simply kill the app and reopen and all was well Well this time it crashed and no matter what I did it would NOT reopen It would begin to open and then crash immediately So I backed up all the files using iTunes uninstalled and reinstalled the apps My garden plans were gone So I tried to synch with my online account to bring them backthey wouldnt sync I tried reimporting the garden plans from the backup I made using iTunesnothing Support contacted me immediately and told me that they would work on it and not to worry about 2 years 3 seasons per year worth of plans because I had the foresight to back up the files it would be okdifficult to do manually on my end but worst case we could get it done Well I was contacted that with a solution or two that didnt work and then was emailed that it had been escalated to a higher level and that they were working diligently to fix the issue but it may take a while NO PROBLEM Hey they were working on it That last contact was May 30th Since then I sent two more emails asking for an update and have gotten 0 response It is now the very end of July and they are apparently ignoring me Now I have no plans no history and Ill be going back to pen and paper for this so it never happens again Dont bother with this app Great idea very poor support for their app If it works for you youre great If something goes wrongapparently you are on your own As for meIm even canceling my magazine subscription Even if they said we have no idea how to fix it and man have we triedI wouldnt have been thrilled but at least I know they bothered     They just dont seem to care about issues

I have used the desktop version of this app a few times and was quite pleased It was always very intuitive and easy to edit However after only a few hours of using this app I am disappointed and frustrated At first I thought it was my fat fingers that were unable to select garden plots My stylus has had no better luck Try to resize your plot Forget about it I can only hope that in the upcoming updates Mother Earth takes these simple things into consideration As far as a resource goes the plant information is clear and informative thus saving it from a one star review I will continue to use the app as difficult as it is only because I spent 800 Not because it was worth the money Hopefully some updates will come around that make it user friendly        Needs work

This might be the single worst app on the App Store and Mother Earth News should be embarrassed to put its name on it You absolutely have to watch the tutorial and then constantly refer to the app manual good luck finding that to get even the simplest thing done Oh and dont plan on actually adding any plants to your plan since the app must be importing varieties from a server on Neptune or somewhere at least that far away Just a very very bad app     Truly bad

For ten bucks this should work better It crashed right away and then once I got it working again I tried to configure a row and theres no way to get out of that screen Youre stuck on the configure screen until you exit out of the app completely This app looked like it would have great potential but so far I am very disappointed I have never paid so much for such a poorly performing app before     Buggy

So frustrating hard to move drawings hard to resize areas takes forever to be able to select the plants I found myself wishing the designers of Plants vs Zombies would partner with a gardening book to make a more intuitive easy way to select and plan your garden It has good information about the plants but I can just look that up online     Waste of money

For the first time in decades of gardening Ive ditched the paper and penciland wholeheartedly embraced this digital app to plan all my beds Theres a video tutorial which is great but you really dont need to watch it because the operation is so completely intuitive Youll love the option to choose square foot gardening if thats your thing The plant list is extensive but theres also a way to add new varieties if yours isnt included I drew leafshaped beds instead of the more traditional rectangular shapes and had no trouble at allwow this app is amazing                 Wonderful app

Ive been using this app and website for five or six years The app is an improvement from the website planner from a Mac but still incredibly clunky and slow It takes eons to make changes move plants and load the app Often times the app will crash and lose hours of work but as luck has it hours of work is only a few plants added since the app is so slow This program has loads of potential and I keep coming back because it remembers past years plots to make crop rotation a breeze Every year when I start working on my plans I think the developer must have fixed this by now especially with MotherEarthNews backing it But so far the answer is no Use it if you have free time to waste but not recommended for an impatient soul        Time waster

Bought this today and tried to use before I planted my garden but it took too long Planted seeds tracked the progress on graph paper and then loaded into app Really designed for huge plots My 4X28 ft garden looks too tiny to be of value so I will stick with graph paper Excellent customer service response but it didnt resolve the overall issues Maybe a future version will be easier for smaller gardens        not so easy

I really enjoy this app It helps make gardening easy just grab the iPad and I see my layout and can customize things on the spot I believe you do have to have a yearly membership to Mother Earths Online garden plannerwhich you can share plans between the two of them but I was already doing that and it was well worth the money They must have fixed a lot of the issues other users were having because it works well There are still a few bugsexpanding crops not always going the correct direction easy work around though but nothing that has hindered me The only thing I would really like to see is a better garden Notes section So that my personalized notes are easier to view I have a 3rd gen ipad and enjoy this app              Good app

I like this app a lot Yes there are a couple of bugs here and there but I havent had as much trouble as the other reviewers The app helps plan out your garden including square foot gardening and succession planting Very cool              Fun useful app

This appears to have so much potential But despite viewing the tutorial several times Im finding it complicated to use Among other issues it keeps throwing me out of the app and tells me Im not logged in but then wont give me a place to log in Help This was a rather expensive app not to work It would have been well worth the price if it did        Im quite disappointed

Trying to select an item and move or modify it is an exercise in frustration and futility Highlight an item then try to move it and something else like the row or the entire garden plot is what moves more often than not I am unable to get specific variety and thus growing and care information on many plants such as tomatoes or eggplant I had entered it all by cutting and pasting in the notes field but it was wiped out during the upgrade and I cant get it back or even access a screen to pick a variety The end result is that a sheet of graph paper and hand written notes are a lot faster and cheaper Dont waste your money Mother Earth News should be ashamed     Dont waste your money

Very frustrated Somehow I got logged out now I dont remember my password and this 10 app is now sitting useless Tried to recover my password to no avail and I got nowhere on the website The app itself of what I did use is promising Hopefully I can log back in to use it more        Promising but Im stuck

I find this program is not quite polished ready with a lot of bugs still It definitely needs more work When you put a plant into your garden you cant even delete it and there are no instructions in the guide book on how to do this Then when you add another plant the previous one simply disappears Kind of weird I bought this on a recommendation but I certainly would not buy it and I sure wish I could get a refund because it is WAY overpriced for what you get You sure are getting a half baked program for the money I would recommend buying another program1218           Half baked

I subscribe to Mother Earth news and was really excited about getting this planner app Ive had it for over a week and been working with it every day First let me say that I have it on an iPad that is quick and works great Im not ignorant on laying out a project such as this and my reading and comprehension skills are are just fine I installed the app Read all the information provided Everything great I started to lay out my garden and everything was going good I was actually very pleased Then It got progressively slower and slower I actually tried to add a plant a few minutes ago and while I was waiting for it to respond went out and added wood to my wood stove You just need to stay away from this app Please dont wast your money the way I did Id love it if would work as it should and be responsive I really do Bottom line it should have O stars Please stay away until you see positive reviews Thanks Dwight I need to add to my review Believe it or not I was working on the planner on New Years Day 2pm Still very frustrated I sent an email to Mother Earth News a short time latter I got an email from them That was amazing and beyond belief They guided me along and got the issue resolved I still have a glitch on occasion but nothing like I did So Mother Earth News I must apologize for being so grumpy I thank you retract my previous 1 star Update I do have a problem with the app Im unable to delete some things from my garden This app has a lot of potential if the creator would fix it but in the end I wouldnt recommend it after all Thanks        From trash to treasure

I have only been using this app for a few hours but so far its great The library of plants is quite extensive You can adjust by month to do succession plantings There is a journal option I read the negative reviews about bugs and the like so I waited for a new version So far this one seems fineno problems whatsoever and I envision it being a useful planning tool for my veggie and herb gardens                 Love it

I was excited to get this app because it was mentioned in the MotherEN magazineWell my husband and I sat down and went through the tutorial several times There was way too much information to remember while going through it It would be so much better if the tutorial took you step by step We are disappointed and hope we can get some tech support I also downloaded this on my ipad to make it a bit more portable or was that a mistake     Grow Planner Mother Earth News

I love this app You can design an expansive garden even down to seasonal crop rotations You can easily share your finished garden plan on Facebook or email it to a friend Plus I really like seeing other peoples garden plans Its a little pricy but in my opinion all the features make it worth the cost I do recommend watching the tutorial video at the beginning to avoid any confusion or frustration Super cool                 Love it

Once we figured out how to use it it was pretty slick But when we finished with our garden plan on the iPad we emailed it to our PC so we could print it Very disappointed to see it only prints without the grid lines How the heck can we use it for a planting guide out in the garden when we dont know the measurements Luckily we had some grid paper at home so we did the math and scaled the printer to match our paper           Disappointed no grid lines when printed out

What you would think would be the basics of drawing and selecting doesnt work Cant get past drawing basic boxes draw a box and tap to move and nothing happening When you finally get it to move the screen doesnt scroll to the direction you are going you have to stop move the grid and then try to move the box again until you run out of screen Intuiative Not in the least Watched all the videos on You Tube Wish it would work that easy     Infuriating

I was so excited to try this out since theres no other program that I could find that does what this claims to do Well it doesnt do it Along with the other complaints if an incredibly of the measly plant selection and the inability to truly customize a custom plant it just DOESNT WORK For example I switched it to snap to grid mode not realizing it wouldnt suit my layout style Well its not possible to change it back Not even by completely starting it over My garden is not in strict square footage so the layouts are basically useless to me now Add in the fact that before discovering that I learned once you put a plant down more often than not it will not let you delete said plant if you put it down someplace inadvertently no matter how many times you press the delete button Had to start over from scratch If this program worked on even the most basic level it would be fantastic and incredibly useful Please please get this working or someone out there develop another program like it     Infuriating

I was very excited to purchase this despite the high price and mixed reviews Unfortunately that excitement quickly fadd as I discovered how little this program actually does What it is good for 1Figuring out how many plants you can grow in a particular area What is not good 1 Cant import images of garden for designing over 2 Tried to configure vegetables to particular varieties but list is always blank 3 Says we have a month of frost dates at our location which is not accurate We live in Belize and have zero frost days 4 Does not print with grid showing If all you care about is laying out your plan that can be done Would be much cheaper to draw it yourself and do the math off the seed packets I have always been impressed with content from Mother Earth News This app falls well short of their typical standards     Overpriced and Under Performing

This app is really a waste of time It is not easy to navigate and is difficult to plan for raised beds or square foot I wish I had saved the money     Not functional

I wouldnt take this app for free I wish I had taken the time to read the reviews before I plopped out 10 bucks The program is glitchy It loses stuff all the time The commands dont work consistently It is driving me to drink     This app stinks

Yes I agree with other reviewers that this app needs more work Lets just say that theres room for improvement It does have the features that I was looking for in a garden planning app The ability to keep track of multiple garden beds separately A place to keep notes Fairly large selection of plants to add including the ability to add your own if not found on their list Using info from previous plantings to make decisions for new plans It also gives you access to some helpful guides to consult              Great tool still needs work
