Gaia GPS - Offline Topo Maps, Compass, and GPS Tracking for Trails – Hiking, Biking, Skiing, Camping, Running

Ive tried a number of mapping and gps apps So far this is the one I like best There is a nice selection of maps that you can download You can easily record tracks and then organize them and see them on a map                 Best mapping and gps app

I travel all around the world and this is my go to app to keep me from getting lost anywhere From road map to secret spot finder it has it all One correction I would make though when I zoom to get a more precise location the labels townstreet names dont zoom with the map Makes it hard to read every time Outside of that I couldnt be happier unless you started including 4x4 trails So many of the good trails are difficult to find and would be nice to have as an add on or something Keep it up guys Ive used the heck out of the app so far and dont plan on switching any time soon                 Great friggin app

Ive used this app on two long backpacking trips with an 80mi trip coming up This app is the best planning and tracking app Ive used to date I use this on an iPhone 6 Plus in Airplane mode I use about 25 charge per day using this about 6 hours a day This includes taking photos and checking location periodically Pros The available maps are great Even without getting Gaia Pro USGS topo maps are spot on Offline maps are awesome and invaluable It gives this app its power Photo and waypoint tracking is very nice Build your route on the website using your desktop and then sync it to your device Ive found this to be invaluable You can also share your route with friends Very useful when planning trips Cons Steep learning curve when first digging into the app Interface is a bit clunky and unpolished It gets the job done though Organizing routes and tracks into folders is very confusing After you put a route or track into a folder it no longer shows up under your routes or tracks but you have to go into folders to find it Some Feature Requests It would be great to be able to tap and hold on a point on my track or route and get the distance from the startend as well as elevation info and info from prevnext waypoint Would be great for planning campsites etc on a long route Let me zoom in and out on the Altitude Profile and other Stats to get more info as well as linking to a location in the map if I tap it in one of the stats Show waypointsphotos on the graphs in the Stats area and allow linking to map Thank you for the great app              Best GPS App by Far

Once I figured out how to download trail maps and a few of the nuances compared to my old apps Ive seen nothing better than this I love the fact that it is continually being upgraded and worked on This app is well worth the money compared to buying a standalone GPS unit in my opinion as its feature set is much richer and easily kept updated I have easily run this on my phone for 15 miles worth of hiking without it smoking the batteryscreen wasnt on the whole time but only used 30 of battery and kept me true to course Love all the different overlays and the integration with the website Keep up the good work guysgals Highly recommend                 Great Navigation tool that just keeps getting better

The use of real topos makes this app well worth it at least for those who leave the pavement I have a Garmin which I use to record tracks without killing my iPhone battery but this is the tool I use to see where I am and where Im going                 Great and useful app

I first started using Gaia GPS with my iPod Touch where the offline maps feature is great You have access to the beautifullooking topo and street maps Accessing them is simple and you can save quite a large section that can be zoomedin for complete details without a WiFi connection And you get Canadian topos too yeah And with my iPhone 6 it is even more useful even when i am in the mountains far away from any connection The developers are superresponsive and are constantly improving the app truly an app made by real outdoors people for others like them Buy it now you wont be disappointed                 Offline maps are perfect for the iPod Touch or places without a connection

Downloaded the app with TOPO maps for a 5 day Smokies trip Tried to use it to leave breadcrumbs and map the route Absolutely worthless for this function and not reliable Randomly stops recording several times per day making it useless to calculate distance hiked GPS function is downright weird Asked it to Waypoint current position several times and about 75 of the time missed my position by 56 miles Had to hard boot my phone several times per day just to use the app to record one or two miles then would quit Save your money for a real GPS This software has a long way to go and is NOT reliable enough to count on for mapping backwoods trips Endomondo had no problem finding my location by the way     Not a replacement for a GPS

All the superlatives in recent reviews are so well deserved Every iPhone user could benefit from app to make your iPhone so much more fun and useful It just needs GPS no cellular or WiFi signals needed Last week easily tracked my flight from Atlanta to Sacramento and I could identify the national parks cites towns etc visible from my window seat Also continually shows exact altitude and speed of aircraft etc Using it walking and hiking is really motivating can see exactly where you walked and track distance exact elevation accurate to 1100th of a foot in comparison to a surveyors stake I saw on walk yesterday Buy it and dont look back                 Ditto

I use Gaia all the time for 4 wheeling We have a website that documents trails for ATVs and UTVs I couldnt do it without my Gaia app I love the updates and how its always being improved                 Awesome App

Ive been using Gaia in some capacity since it was first released and Ive never seen an update fail to include useful wellexecuted features and timely bug fixes I cant recommend this app enough I use it every time I hike explore or plan UAV flights                 Not just the best GPS app quite possibly the best app on my phone

This is a very complete and mature app for image tilebased maps You can cache these for offline use and then easily flip between satellite views OSM French and US topo maps Full zoom is a lot of data of course Good for recording GPS tracks too sync to their website The vector map is however very much a work in progress much better ones exist Not cheap obviously But under active development so bugs do get squashed              Gold standard

You have to have a subscription to access OpenStreetMaps Thats a large bit of baloney The openStreetMaps are OPEN Im currently downloading the limited number of tiles you can download yes there is a limit at 22KBs on a university network that has no speed problem Its going to take several hours Did I mention there is a limit to the number of map tiles you can download Thats fine if you are in California and can grab all the maps you need when you need them but when you are going to the Amazon in Brazil for work its stupid Ill not be able to download anything while there You can probably get them before the trip in multiple chunks but not at modem speeds The options for accessing the GPS are Never or Always How about the option allowed by other apps when using the app Not impressed Will be trying to get my money back Edit on the 5th You CAN download maps from a bunch of other sources It just took a long time for some reason for the list of other map sources to fill in Thats why I thought you needed to have the Pro version OpenStreetMaps wont let you view their maps offline so thats still a big minus but not the programs fault Ill bump it up a star but there are still a lot of problems On my iPad but not someone elses iPhone the program crashes back to the Launcher a lot especially when switching mapslayers Too bad Theres nothing special about my iPad that I know of Ill start sending in bug reports if I use the program much        I dont think so

I have been using this app every day for a few years to track walks jogging skiing and hiking Couldnt do without it I appreciate the developers excellent support just keeps getting better Easily worth the price just for the downloadable maps                 Great GPS app for hiking cycling walking etc

I know shelling out 20 for an app seems kindof unreasonable but I assure youthis app is worth every single dollar It was weird when I first used it I really didnt understand how to read maps or how to navigate and I only really wanted it to give me leads to better hikes like alltrails LOL This sounds like a negative but truly it isnt It made me learn how to read topographic maps and they have toooons of these maps not just US It made me accountable for where I am and gave me life saving direction when I used the tracking feature Although they said dont depend on Gaia GPS I would tell them different It is reliable and relatively accurate Naturally legally they dont want to be held responsible and I get that This app is essential if youre roughin it in the woods or if youre just wanting to track your hike I could not recommend it any more I absolutely love this appThese people care about the product theyre releasing and changing PS Theyre web interface is just as good as the iOS one You should definitely check that out when you get this app                 20 expensive I think so

Ability to develop routes and waypoints either from the app or the Windows desktop was a big deal to me These routes are automatically synced and as long as youve predownloaded the maps before you hit the trailhead you have a complete GPS routefinding solution that replaces the expensive older options Lots of features always being added but I would appreciate some usability and interface enhancements to the Desktop experience                 Awesome for hiking and backpacking

Easy to use Excellent for planning unique routes and unusual adventures When maps are downloaded in advance you can track your trip with Airplane mode turned on to save battery Multiple overlays provide a variety of views Love love love this app                 Excellent for backcountry adventure

This app is an incredible aid in the backcountry tracking is dead on map caching is fast and space consciousand they have a huge variety of map layers available and accuracy is as good as youll get with a phone The developers are continually improving the app and it gets significantly better and smarter with each update I havent tried the Apple watch app yet no Apple watch but Im impressed by how fast the Gaia team had a watch app out there for its users I was an EveryTrail user when they shut down the app I tried all the competition and landed on GaiaGPS I havent been disappointed AND I was able to import my EveryTrail data Do yourself a favor and buy this so you can quit reading reviews and get outside                 Fantastic app only gets better

I rarely rate apps but this app deserves mention I use this app constantly on hiking biking and other outdoor trips No signal No problem Just download the map for the area that you will be in before you go and you are set I have had some minor issues with tracking when mountain biking presumably because I am moving quickly but thats a minor problem for what many would consider an unnecessary luxury on the trails Worst case scenario I still have a topo map downloaded to get me out Thanks Gaia for the app I will keep recommending the product to people who ask Whoa what app is that                 Great for the outdoors

Great for tracking trail runs hikes and neighborhood walks Store waypoints and rest stops with photos and send to others in your group Pace keeps the group on time and allows me to turn back shorten the hike or take an alternate less challenging course if we wont finish before dark Watch battery consumption though as GPS is thirsty                 Outdoors frequently

I am a forester and I use this app for all sorts of recreation purposes It helps me find those places where I want to go fishing hunting hiking or whatever and it gives me the overlays that I use with different more advanced tools at work                 Tremendous

Ill admit Im not a big fan of where the whole igeneration is moving I could never send a text again and Id feel better for it In fact if I could get away with it Id toss my iPhone iPad MacBook Pro and even my watch into the river but then youd call me iunemployed Id rather be wandering through the woods on some new adventure than asking Siri to guide me to the closest Starbucks I take that backId toss everything except my iPhone with Gaia installed The combo rocks especially now that you can use the iPhones GPS receiver in airplane mode If youre considering buying a new handheld GPS device reconsider Gaia does it all and then some Like I said Id rather be wandering through the woodsbut knowing exactly where Im wandering makes it all the better If I lost my iPhone today Id have a replacement in hand tomorrow if for no other reason than Id want my Gaia back What more is there to say                 Worth more than my iPhone

The reason I bought this app was it was the only gps app that Ive found that has USGS topo maps as a map layer I motor bike a lot on BLM and Forest roads and the USGS topos have road numbers which make it nice to find your way around And its easy to identify how difficult a route might be based on the type of road it is But once I started using it and then upgraded to the pro version Ive found it is my goto gps app I just came back from a 3 day ADV moto ride following the Utah Backcountry Discovery route I download the track to gaia and it kept me going the right direction And better yet I discovered that we were not going to be able to make our time schedule and I was able to use the create a route feature to find a short cut Very cool                 My go to web map and iPhone GPS app

Have used this over the last three years multiple times on trips to Colorado Offline maps are awesome and there many to choose from and they are free to download We have used it on our phones and iPad and never had any issues Very accurate and easy to use I recommend this for the avid offroader who wants to travel with only one device                 Great for offroading
