Different Drummer is your secret weapon in the quest for innovative beats that make sense. Using patent pending Cyclophone Technology, Different Drummer taps into the primal source of all drumming waves. Wave motion propels almost ...
Different Drummer is now a magic bullet in my music composition arsenal I have been looking for an app that will put out algorithmic but very controllable and interesting MIDI material to record into my sequencer I enjoy collaborating with algorithmic sources and because of the depth of features I can already tell that Different Drummer will produce satisfying MIDI material for me to manipulate for a long time to come The internal sound engine is decent as well and I have recorded some great stuff using Inter App Audio There is one issue v4 6 1 that I hope will be resolved soon Ableton Link integration is not functioning properly                 The Newest Member of My One Man Band cxrisp
This is magic If you need rhythmic muse buy this To dev Thank you for the great support and keeping the app up to date The zen interface Is one of the most innovative developments I ve seen in electronic rhythms One request please revamp sample import possibly the ability to import zip have it unpack then dispose of the zip One by one import is cumbersome 5 stars don t come easy from me You ve definitely earned it                     Innovative app and developer qwesterish
I have a few apps in my iPad that I think of as Mind Stretchers Though the learning curve is steep once you get the hang of it the results are endlessly fascinating Most apps offer you new ways to get to old places This feature packed gem takes you to new sonic and musical worlds very quickly It helps you to think of music in new ways It is a labor of love for this developer as he continues to bring refinements to it This is a true masterpiece for iOS                     One of a kind B'bba
All the talk of the complexity of this app scared me away forever but I finally took the plunge Man am I glad that I did Sure I haven t begun to crack the programming but so many great sounding presets are provided for tweaking delight Did I mention that it sounds really good I am really enjoying this one and running it on both my pad and phone Running it a lot                     Over my fear Ben Efitofadoubt
consistently polishes this app beyond expectations and pushes the limits of alt perspectives that actually boosts accessibility functionality This extremely intuitive ui interior design concept that should set an example for ALL future app developers in some fashion Different drummer is doing something else and thats exactly what this seemingly transparent digital era needs more of                     remarkably innovative app Hulu Frog
Different Drummer is a must have app for anyone interested in music It does have a bit of a learning curve but that s to be expected given the breadth of the app Still it s not too difficult to learn the fundamentals in a short period and there are videos the community the manual and a very responsive dev The biggest plus though is that you can generate very unique pieces with the app Randomization and automation are well implemented and that s enough to get you started With the addition of a port to the iPhone you can now be Different anywhere                     Must have Sattech27
8 17 16 Update This fantastic MIDI sequencer pattern and phrase generator keeps on getting better with regular updates my fav new addition is that you can now create an endless number of instant launch buttons for any saved state in a slide aroundable panel on the Zen interface for live performance modulate anything now power really great thanks OK DD is THE MIDI device I ve waited decades to find And along with MusicIO to attach it to Logic and my AUs this is the app that finally brought the iPad into my actual musical world even though I ve bought literally hundreds of other apps since getting the Pro last Xmas They all seemed interesting enough but none particularly inspired me to figure out the ios Logic thing NOW until I spent a few minutes with DD I use it as a sort of auto strummer or mechanical player tirelessly churning out interesting streams of MIDI notes and patterns to drive whatever synths and samplers I m currently jazzed about or have been ignoring like suddenly having a live in player in the studio just waiting to be told what to dash off in any style level of complexity scale progressions on and on and quite easy to direct after ajust a little fiddling and reading through the excellent manual a few times it s DEEP I m still dropping in on that Bottom line I m suddenly cranking out tracks that really reflect what I ve been imagining but hadn t the skills to play at a furious pace thanks to DD and quick help whenever needed from the very accessible dev Fabulous but you know you probably won t like it these cookies are no good just move along and leave em to me THANK YOU DD                     Wow THIS amazing thing is what finally made ios music happen for me Dpcoffin
I was looking for something that had the circular interface and this app seemed to fit the bill Great reviews as well I thought I m all set Zenterface comes at a price IAP s Aggravated I try to move on but the user interface is crap and so is the manual Online help Only for what I can guess are older versions It s not intuitive at all and according to some reviewers I ll have to invest more than a few weeks to learn it Sadly I will do without     Useless for me especially with IAP Lokiano
I am amazed by what you can do with this app A learning curve but so worth it                     Surprisingly deep Cianoc123
Wonderful app Definitely different but my favorite Bought the iap and bought the 2nd one instantly Love it and use this app the most                     Great value and rewarding Walablat
Different in a great way very cool just got this and still lost in the depth of limitless imagination generating swirly zenterfaceness Not your mommas beat box this is a trippy music generator I m hooked Thank you devolper                     Definitely different MeatWalrus
Really enjoying the new IAPs which I can use to drive a variety of synths and drum machines You can produce subtle to large variations in the patterns coming out of the app The circular interfaces for the new IAPs provide a way to visualize what Different Drummer is putting out                     MIDI IAP Nice Variations polarpaul
From time to time Fortunately it truly is an optional add on It just makes a few things you can already do easier to achieve As for the price fluctuations it happens as well It s not unusual to purchase a app at a high price only to later discover the same app at a substantially lower price It s happened to me on more than one occasion It is still a nice app                 Well IAP happen Long words
After an hour of reading the manual watching video tutorials and trying to make sense of their clunky user interface I didn t have one single useful beat to show for Huge frustration Don t think I m a newbie I know how to play drums I have used Maschine and Reason extensively and DD user interface gave me a headache Maybe someone can post a useful tutorial for the rest of us until then DD gets deleted Sorry     Steep learning curve AppLickable
Amazingly creative app with realtime updating I ask the developer to update a feature and they responded by a adding to their next update One of the best iOS apps for drumming easily                     Awesome app Njgkcicjfjdkd
This app just keeps getting better and better The more you dive into it the more it will reward you with its wave metaphor of rhythm                     Powerful and deep TBPHX
A very interesting and flexible approach to rhythm It takes some effort to learn how to use it but it s effort well spent                     No Other Drum Machine Like It Modravoda
Don t let the name fool you it s not just for drums though it works well as a polyrhyhmic drum machine that creates surprising and tuned beats But it s actually much more than that as it can sequence samples you have or create or drive other instruments with MIDI In a way Different Drummer somewhat defies a description that really does it justice It s quite powerful and deep There is some learning curve as there is with anything sufficiently complex but don t let that stop you You can warm up by using randomize features to get surprising results quickly Really a top app and well supported too Well worth the investment                     An amazing sequencer in disguise SuperNiCd
I have been watching this app since it was launched Always with interest but not willing to pay the outlandish starting price I have considered it a couple times since but finally picked it up today At first I was not really sure what to make of it one because most synths and drum machines are pretty self explanatory So all I can say is I m really happy and surprised at what you can do with this app Read the manual It totally makes sense and shows you just what you can do in a mater of minutes I must say that I am creating some extremely useful grooves with a different drummer A lot of work went into this so the Dev just needs to stand at this price It is well worth it                 Was skeptical now proven wrong rhanline
This is a great machine with a lot of depth unfortunately it is not the easiest to understand and program if you buy it plan on spending a significant amount of time with it your patience will be rewarded with great sounds results If you are a very impatient person buy an MPC style machine and call it a day Not for the faint hearted                     If you are looking for simplicity stop reading now zounds23
Took a chance since I saw everyone on the forums complaining about the price the price didn t bother me compare to 300 hardware it s a really interesting way to make beats I can honestly say I really like it a lot one thing maybe would be cool if u could add pads but none the less it s really cool                     Really like it Browncoversurazz
I m a crap drummer and have been looking for something like this where I can experiment and listen to different drum patterns and tweak them I think I ll be using this App about everyday now and can t wait for more Updates Thx                     OMG WOW Buck Snot
I m on an iPad 4 running iOS 7 and enjoy this app when it s working properly still a little buggy with iOS 7 but developer support is top notch with quick responses and attention to getting bugs fixed Worth every penny and then some You can really get some unique beats with this that are very creative and inspiring Way too much fun                     Creative Inspiring bittlebox
Review update 29 Sept 2013 As I wrote in the earlier version of this review this app used to sell for 150 and at one point when first released even more than that I got a price alert from Apple Sliced that the price had dropped to 50 As of right now it is 30 If you are serious about beat music making and want to try an app that will provide beats way outside the box and spark your creativity go for it now I do agree with another recent reviewer that this the price the developer should keep it at It s well worth this price As I also say below there is a learning curve But just by tweaking the sliders in any parameter by changing and moving the waves you will come up with fresh sounds and impossible insane rhythms and beats I now return you to my older versions of this review Review update for version 2 0 Well I promised I d bump up to five stars when landscape view came in And here it is And not only that but a whole bunch of other cool features as well Plus more samples This is awesome Review update for 1 5 1 I m loving this app Developer seems to be both responsive to users and wanting to take this app forward We get a message when we open the app that the next update will include landscape support At that point this will be an automatic five star for me Still very solid four maybe even 4 1 2 Two new waveforms were added to tweak the beats They also fixed a few bugs If you re serious about your music you like to play with beats and this could fit into your budget it s worth spending the money As I say in the review below at least it was for me Original review When this app was 150 there was no way I was going to try it But I set an AppleSliced alert if it went down to 50 and from what it promised and from a video demo I watched I thought that was doable and maybe worth it Well the alert came in a couple of days ago AND I noticed it had come on the Audiobus So I pulled the trigger and got it Due to my budget I don t think I would pay 150 for this app but I must say I can see why some pros would And if I was making an income from my music I definitely would Using its wave algorithms to shape and program the beats really makes for some very cool and unusual sequences And having it as part of Audiobus allows for some great recording combinations I played a 25 minute jam yesterday using it DrumJam with Different Drummer sending the MIDI clock input to DrumJam as well as some MIDI note input and me playing BeBot live for melodies and harmonies on top This app does have a learning curve But at least for me it wasn t too steep I won t say I ve mastered it yet not by a long shot but I do think I have a pretty good handle on it and can do a lot to get results I like The combinations are virtually limitless within the app and that s even before you either use MIDI or Audiobus to connect it with other apps and the way you can tweak manipulate and customize both timbre and rhythm and melody and scale also is so very cool I can t stop playing with it I took a star off because it works in portrait orientation only I can t understand that Many of my music apps are either landscape by default or landscape only This means that when using this app in Audiobus and switching back and forth I have to keep turning the iPad which interrupts the work play flow I could understand that if this was an iPhone app either first or exclusively But it s exclusively an iPad app But I have a feeling they may well fix this in an update At least I hope so Auto 5 stars for me at that point I also wish that it could accept MIDI sync coming in not just out Even if only for clock sync Sometimes I really like using DrumJam for that and I am forced to do it only using this app to provide the clock control But not taking any stars off for that Just something I would like So bottom line Is it worth 50 and up Wow So hard to tell someone else what something s worth Especially when it comes to art For a lot of people both pros and amateurs remember amateur comes from the Latin for love An amateur is someone who does something purely for love a nice motivation if there ever was one this will be cheap There has been hardware and software that could do things like this for years and a lot of it costs hundreds of dollars On the other hand some people will feel ripped off no matter what price they pay because it is not what they need it want for their music creation remember there are people who feel ripped off for 99 if the app doesn t do what they want Sometimes that is totally justified for apps that misrepresent or are broken Sometimes well not I d read reviews watch the demo video s I ve only watched one but there may be more and really focus on your budget You can get a lot of cool music apps for 50 But for me this was totally worth the 50 and then some I think it s worth 150 it s only that I couldn t afford that at this point But if my music was bringing income I d pay it I am really enjoying what it can do and it is opening me up to a new area of rhythmic experimentation and creativity                     Worth it for me shakurav1
I purchased the app at a higher price Not the outrageous original price just a few bucks more than the 30 that it is on sale for now I try to avoid talking about price in reviews but the developer has made it a central point of ANY discussion involving this app At first I felt a tiny bit burned due to a lack of instant gratification and the relative high price I still have a lot to lean about the app but I have quickly come to see its potential It is very deep and powerful You CAN create something very interesting with it but be prepared to invest a lot of time and learn the tool Personally I am very interested in tools that help break out of patterns and ruts and thats why it now feels like a solid investment to me Some people just want to combine existing material If that sounds like your thing you may want to look elsewhere All this makes the pricing debacle a little more understandable but the developer should embrace the new ecosystem and leave the price at 30bucks That is a solid price for a useful and powerful pro app that appeals to creators yet will entice curious and serious hobbyist Another suggestion for the developer to satisfy those serious hobbyist and impatient pros perhaps you should add some presets to show the potential of the tool Especially some classic patterns that people instantly recognize I know thats not the strength of the app but it would let people know the range of what can be achieved with it if they invest the time Don t try to just crowd source it I see your new feature splash YOU do it or hire an enthusiast In other words want a premium price Put your money where your mouth is Great potential I hope this app out lasts the pricing scandal to become a classic                 Zeroing in on a price point Murdock Scott
This app is great and truly unlike any drum program I ve ever used It can be a little tough to control because there s not one of those kick on the 1 snare on the 2 sequencers that every other drum machine seems to have But if you re looking for a drum that will surprise you and give you patterns that you might not have thought of this is your baby Worth every penny I ll add that the customer service is great I ve had a few issues that were resolved very quickly All told one of the best apps I ve ever bought                     Truly different Dpg499

Love this app Put in the time to learn and understand how it works and you will be rewarded This is for those who wish to create something new and original If you want to create tired old 4 on the floor 808style beats geezus there are hundreds of other apps that will do the trick                 Generative Beast
This is a great machine with a lot of depth unfortunately it is not the easiest to understand and program if you buy it plan on spending a significant amount of time with it your patience will be rewarded with great sounds results If you are a very impatient person buy an MPC style machine and call it a day Not for the faint hearted                 If you are looking for simplicity stop reading now
Ok a little about this app for the uninitiated Its a groovebox with surprising power Its layout is complex but the rewards you reap make it worth it You design patterns using waves which seemingly give it a human touch to the ear By human I mean a little bit accented on select beats Im still learning so I will come back with further details                 Tasty groove
Dont let the name fool you its not just for drums though it works well as a polyrhyhmic drum machine that creates surprising and tuned beats But its actually much more than that as it can sequence samples you have or create or drive other instruments with MIDI In a way Different Drummer somewhat defies a description that really does it justice Its quite powerful and deep There is some learning curve as there is with anything sufficiently complex but dont let that stop you You can warm up by using randomize features to get surprising results quickly Really a top app and well supported too Well worth the investment                 An amazing sequencer in disguise
Great app with unlimited capabilities given the interaction of all the tools available                 Most used app in the toolbox
If you want proof of a developer obsessed with pushing their product ever further towards perfection then read the update history for this app Or just buy it and be really blown away This can produce sounds that nothing else in the app store comes close nor have I found anything that can approximate some of these textures amidst the vast array of professional audio software I have worked with over the decades especially when it comes to using your own sounds Absolutely excellent and always getting better somehow Pair with Oscilab for an entirely wavedriven music production experience                 Thanks to this developer for constantly improving their product
Im on an iPad 4 running iOS 7 and enjoy this app when its working properly still a little buggy with iOS 7 but developer support is top notch with quick responses and attention to getting bugs fixed Worth every penny and then some You can really get some unique beats with this that are very creative and inspiring Way too much fun                 Creative Inspiring

very unique and different way of making drum loops it is going to take a while to experiment and see what happensright now i am scratchin my head little bit very cool app with alot of power              crashes ios 813 ipad mini 2 retina
