Hebrew Writer is the essential Hebrew-English word processing app for your iPad or iPhone Type in Hebrew and English, with different fonts, formatting, and styles. You can even type Hebrew with nikud - Hebrew vowels ...
As a biblical scholar always looking for new ways to do my job on the go I was intrigued by the announcement of Davka Hebrew Writer for iOS What a letdown the actual app delivers What you get for your 1499 is either a notepad with extra formatting features or a very featureslight word processor depending on your point of view DHW handles Hebrew text very smoothly switches from LTR to RTL with ease and offers a special nikkud ribbon that sits above the standard Hebrew keyboard for easy entry of vowels sheva dagesh and three ligatures I cannot discern any way to access rafe meteg or any of the teamim DHW offers a very few very basic character formatting options You can change the font and size you can make the text bold italicize it or underline it and you can change the text color as long as youre willing to use one of DHWs 16 preselected colors Yes In 2014 On an iPad Sixteen colors preset at the factory with no customization options For paragraph formatting you can select left center right or full justificationand thats it There are no rulers no tabs no lists definitely no sections columns not even page numbers or adjustable margins In fact what you see on the screen is very far from what you get the document occupies the entire width of the screen no matter which way you turn it The insert todays date feature touted in the app description is not unwelcome but poorly implemented The choice between Gregorian and Hebrew calendars is a global choice that you make on a settings sidebar that you cannot access while working on your document rather than a series of menu choices accessible from within your document The oddity of this choice is underlined by the fact that the icon next to the calendar icon pops up the share menu You also cant change the name of your document while working on the document you have to go to your document library screen to do that You can store your documents in iCloud useful for sharing between your iPad and iPhoneand your computer if you happen to use DavkaWriter for Mac which isnt really a Mac program at all but a PC program running inside a Wine bottle You can however use the share menu to send your document via email as a PDF RTF or plain text file and you can email yourself a TXT or RTF file and use your Mail apps share button to open that file in Davka Hebrew Writer In my judgment Davka Hebrew Writer for iOS cannot at present repays its 15 price tag which I paid so you dont have to Its useful only if you are working on very long blocks of Hebrew text or you need to freely mix Hebrew and English and you anticipate exporting your document to a real word processor for formatting but not going back the other way because well you cant But if you dont need to see colored texts and fancy fonts which in any event are proprietary and unavailable in your other iOS apps you can achieve practically the same thing in Unicode Pad for a fraction of the cost If the Unicode Pad experience feels too plain text for you then you might wish to give Davka Hebrew Writer a whirl If youre writing in Modern Hebrew and dont need nikkud I dont know why youd bother with Davka Hebrew Writer for 1499 instead of using Pages for 999        Very disappointing
אבל אני רוצה לקנות באפ סטור למק שלי ושם אתם לא מופיעים למה הייתי מאוד רוצה להתקין את זה על המק                 תודה על כל העמל והטירחה אבל
This app is will enrich your Hebrew writing experience New Hebrew fonts Nekidot Justify text and more rich text on screen options to create your Hebrew Notes Some cons On the iPhone theres no way to remove the keyboard when youre done editing You cant hide the Text editing alignment bold options toolbar And you cant set a default note style Just a suggestions Please hire a designer so the app lookes more polished that makes a huge difference              Good app improvement needed
Bh Davka is finally available on apple devices Excellent for Hebrew writing                 Finally
