CDT Hiker: Guthook`s Guide is a guide for your hike on the Continental Divide Trail. A free demo covers the 85.3-mile Crazy Cook route in New Mexico from the U.S./Mexico Border to Lordsburg and the ...
I successfully completed the CDT from April 28th to August 24th 2015 using the CDT Hiker App and Bear Creek Maps to navigate the trail Overall the App did an outstanding job keeping me on the trail The CDT is currently about 76 complete At times the trail can be challenging to find or is nonexistent With this App I was always able to quickly locate my location and get me back on track if I became misplaced As with all Apps none are perfect I discovered that there are errors with the base GPS track that is provided by Bear Creek Survey In some cases the trail was missed being survived In other cases new tread has been created since the original survey was taken I believe this was in 2012 You will still be able to navigate the CDT with the app but you could miss some of the new trail along the way I also found issues with the data book with incorrect descriptions of water sources in IdahoMontana It would also had been nice on the 40 mile waterless stretches in Idaho and Montana that the app list the closest off trail water sources That said the app is a HUGE step up from the resources that where previously availability and I would highly recommend that all future CDT hikers purchase this app for their hike on the CDT              A great tool for CDT thruhikers
I downloaded the demo and was impressed enough to purchase New Mexico I plan to start the CDT 416 and this in addition to maps will be most useful                 Great App
This is an excellent app I used it and Jerry Browns waypoints for 170 miles of the Continental Divide Trail through the South San Juan and Weminuche Wilderness areas to Stony Pass Due to the battery drain of my iPhone 5 however I only turned it on and used it when my GPS and mapcompass skills were in question The major limiting factor is the iPhone battery drain but it also would crash now and then for some unknown reason I do HIGHLY recommend this app It will only get better              Excellent Hiking Aid
Im currently on the CDT I was trying to go by map and compass alone but navigation out here is tough Even with my buddys GPS we still get lost Guthooks CDT app fills in the blanks and keeps us on the trail Being able to use it in airplane mode helps me save on battery Clearly made for hikers by hikers Im glad I bought it                 Indispensable
In 2013 I hiked 711 miles on the CDT through the state of Montana using maps and a GPS This summer I am hiking the New Mexico section of the CDT using this app and it has been an amazing asset The apps GPS functionality works in airplane mode which really helps to preserve battery life The mileage and water sources with user comments have been handy I would recommend this app to anyone planning to hike the CDT                 Incredibly useful
We do not purchase topographic map or map apps for a tiny display cellphone We have pinch and zoom on reasonably sized displays The trail drawn on the map needs to be on the trail We know you have the trail data with all the switchbacks and all Get it on              almost there
This app and a solar charger kept us on the CDT As soon as it became apparent that it was all we needed we dumped the inaccurate opinionated trail book                 Excellent
I havent used this app to hike the trailyet But I have a recommendation for the makers of this app It would be better if they could merge their two current maps together For example having the roads and the trail maps together so you can see where the roads are with regards to the trail           Recommendation
I will be starting my thru hike in April but whether you are a daysectionthru hiker this app is great I have used it on sections and it really helped keep me on trail Of course you need a way to charge it and there are solar units that can serve that purpose The guidance for town services water sources alternate routes and elevation are really helpful too I have downloaded all sections and will use this app along with printed maps Well see how it goes when I get to the Canadian border                 Great app for any CDT hiker
