Art Authority for iPad

I am suprised how in love I am with this app It is always updating and adding more works I can now view 772 Van Gogh works in high resolution color with the ability to zoom and pan I never get tired of this app It includes works from museums large and small as well as private collections Awesome way to discover new favorite artists you never knew                 most amazing app for browsingdiscovering art

The reviews around the web are all outstanding for this I saw a couple of negative reviews on the App store saying picture quality wasnt that good They are simply wrong Do not hesitate to get this app Fantastic picture quality sometimes I feel like I am at a museum The interface lets you explore different periods and links to more information This is a true treasure in todays world You will connect to great works of Western art Must have for families must have if you want to nourish your soul and feel connected to human history                 This is why you bought an iPad to begin with

There are surprisingly few artviewing apps for the iPad This is the best Ive found but I keep wishing it were better The navigation is pretty clumsy and slow For example to search through an artists works for a particular title you have to wait for all of them to load which can take a long time The alternative is to navigate all the way back to the home screen then search by title which is faster for some reason but then youll be searching through all artists I also wish the scans were higherresolution On the positive side the number of images is pretty huge and there are detail views of some works which partially makes up for the low resolution Overall Im finding this a useful reference but hope they continue to improve it           Decent but could be better

Much improved update that allows you to zoom in and see a work of art in great detail Ive enjoyed looking at the many paintings and also being able to get information about them A really great way to take a Art History course Highly recommended                 Great way to visit Museums

Its ironic the an app designed to show famous works of art has the ugliest UI Ive ever seen It works well enough Wish the artwork was higher res        Ugly

This app is easy to use and has an elegant interface The catalog of paintings is huge but once the sources are different there inconsistency in quality of digitalization although at least 70 of the artwork has a good quality but essential stuff like Guernica is low quality AirPlay would be a good enhancement for an update              Good app need to add AirPlay

This has been my favorite app for quite a while now With hundreds of artists represented plus time periods styles movements etc there is always something to enjoy in lovely high resolution My one feature request is to be able to UNfavorite artworks Then your favorites could evolve along with you and you could use the favorites to quiz yourself on various artwork details changing the elements of the quiz as you learn                 Wonderful App

This app is mind blowing Ive spent too much time studying the facts about the major art movements the big name artists and the pieces theyve created and havent been able to meditate on the actual ARTWORKS themselves This app has solved that Now I can cruise through virtually any period and soak the beauty in Right through this gorgeous retina display for iPad 3 of course Most of the images are super crisp but thats not always the case I figure they work with whatever they were able to get their hands on I havent come across anything bad yet though Absolutely an invaluable tool for art historians Everyone who is a part of Western civilization as a whole should be required by law to dig through this app It makes so much culture accessible Just fantastic                 Literally the Best Thing Ever

Update stuck in install for weeks Waiting for fix           Update wont install

For the money this app charges I really expected much more scholarly effort put into the information I almost took a double take when I saw that all the info was just a link to Wikipedia It makes me wonder about how they get their images Are those just open source as well Many of the images are horribly lowres For something that calls itself Art Authority and charges as much as this app does I really expected much more groundwork As it is the app just feels like a pretty polished Wikipedia portal That being said it does present the works to you well and provides those Wikipedia links conveniently The app is sometime inconveniently slow but the overall presentation is well done Dont expect the museum experience but if you are looking to expose yourself to many important artists and works of art this app is very good for that However I recommend buying it on sale        Good interface disappointing approach

The ap quit working after an os update I contacted them and never heard back Uninstalling and reinstalling eventually fixed the problem though This is a nice art history app collections are well organized I do like Art Interactive better           Hasnt worked since iOS update

Not a cheap app but I thought if there was a topic that is ideally suited to have an app on the new iPad it would be the world of art I imagined viewing the paintings in the high resolution and marveling at the beauty of the art All that expectation was quickly doused when I viewed my first pieces of artwork in the app There is nothing highres about the art as the app claims They look pretty good when viewed hanging on the virtual wall but when you try to view them full screen on the iPad they are blurry and pixilated Huge disappointment This app had so much promise Furthermore the app doesnt offer any unique or new insights All of the information on a period artist or era only comes from a popup Wikipedia page As a side note yes using this app requires an Internet connection or you dont even get the pictures Overall this app is a huge disappointment and not worth the money Probably valued around 2 tops The content from Wikipedia is not really a concern as it is a good source so use it but the quality of the images is a failure for this type of app and the promises made in the description If the images ever do become high quality versions the apps value would be greater but you cant take their word for it because they already claim to offer high res images of the artwork     Disappointed for the price

Loved this app but after updating it crashes whenever I try to actually look at a piece of art Ive tried cycling power deleting and downloading again all to no avail iPad 1 32 gb memory If you can fix this or give me some way to go back to the previous version I would be very grateful Hopefully Harvey     Please go back to the previous version

This is absolutely my favorite iPad app I can spend hours wandering through and never get tired of it Simply stunning I paid 5 for it and thought it was a bit much but it really is worth every penny Pros great selection wonderful layout easy to use hidef photos can order prints save to photos option Cons useless without wifi In settings you can set the photo cache to 50K default is 5K but the second youre off wifi the photos you just viewed are no longer viewable sometimes You get a message telling you there is no wifi but you can view cached photos Lies Things I wish for 1A folder where you can view your offline cache of photos 2 Ability to sort paintings chronologically 3 Fill in the gaps on certain key artists that are lacking 4 Ability to lock artists so the paintings are never removed from cache and never have to reload                 Amazing Brings the iPad alive like no other app

The concept of the app is OK however the quality resolution of the pictures is subpar Some seem to be 640x480 or so even in fullscreen and zoom Also I cant seem to tag pictures as favorites           Soso

The app is truly wonderful an informative helpful portal into classical art and its history Two requests 1 Use the absolute highest resolution source images Some of the images are either low resolution or contain distracting aliasing If there are no better options for those I would include a setting to filter out low quality images 2 Include more metadata if possible One idea is image dimensions along with real dimensions              Brilliant almost perfect

This is great app for who ever interested in history of art And it will be great help for students who are taking art history classes One thing it lacks and it would make it 5 app is lack of search Other than that its a great app Looking forward using it in my history classes and for the next update              Great app

Awesome That being said 1 Itwould be great if it featured highlights for individual artists rather than just the period And 2 Since each body of work can take awhile to load itd be great if it could be partitioned up somehow so that you dont have to reload everything if you want to go back                 Great

None of the art I am looking for is here They have nothing of African or African American culture like we dont have art Its a waste of money     Dont bother

LOVE IT One of my 5 favorite apps Well worth the Yes some of the photos when zoomed are pixilated but others are not Its like taking a Saturday am stroll though a art museum Love it A couple of enhancement wish lists Would be really great if we could have more than one favorite list or be able to sort and filter favorites I am going to the Louvre next month help me sort filter my looong list of favorites for just that museum Maybe a mulit level sort by period medium and artist And if we could add notes to paintings it would be even more perfect                 Great app

This is a good app to give a comprehensive view of world art The art is divided into periods such as pre 1400 AD and categories such as Roman I would like more art works but this is a good app for people who want to see art works from many eras and regions              Useful

This is my favorite iPad app It is a very attractive gateway to good reproductions of thousands of paintings sortable by period country artist title subject and location The viewing experience is superior to an actual museum in one very important way captions are clearly visible Tech support is excellent and recently viewed artist groups are available offline                 Truly astonishing

After nearly filling up my iPad 3 with only 16 GB 133 GB usable it didnt have enough space to keep this app loaded all the time So I would delete it and reload it sometimes Now with iOS 7 on my new iPad Air this developer has forgotten that I already paid for their app My advice then is Dont buy this expensive app if you might delete it from your iPad unless you dont mind having to buy it again           Was good but they forgot I bought it

Got iPad 3 and had to start redownloading fav artists I understand that but they wont stay downloaded Close app reopen and no downloads even though in some cases white check was next to name Fix Ok Artists staying downloaded problem is apparently resolved Resolution is excellent for iPad 3 What I would like is after saving a picture to photos I wish when viewing it would again briefly show the name of the work and artist I have hundreds of works saved to photos and need to know who Im viewing later on                 Somethings wrong

This magnificent app is nothing short of phenomenal As an appreciator of fine art and an artist myself I love the vast and organized collection of such masterpieces Some may argue that 999 is a bit expensive but try comparing this minuscule cost to a handful of quality art books The images preserved on Art Authority are very good quality and the information in the form of text and educational videos are very nice as well I highly recommend this app                 Well worth the investment

This is now one of my favorite apps Thorough galleries by artist name categorized by genre Access to so many great pieces from each era Love it                 Worth the money

I recently downloaded 46 version of this app and was extremely disappointed The images are highly compressed and jpeg artifacts are severe They need to upgrade their images to much higher quality for iPad 3 users        Great concept but poorly implemented

More I have to say that the UI is like cheap app from win95 era Seriously This is an art app and the design looks no where near art How come only 36 pieces from Dali Please complete the collection              Great but

The strength of the app is the size of the collection you can access That is is quite good But the interface is hardly intuitive even after using it for a while and there are very noticeable JPEG artefacts in an awful lot of the scans which makes the zoom feature a lot less useful Also it feels pokey even on the newest iPad           Promising but not perfect

Nice app but every time they write an update which is often you loose your downloaded cache library Worse yet it keeps the thumbnails of the images you downloaded but not the full size image where as you initially dont until it downloads the high res image and stores it in your cache So you dont know whats in your library or not and chances are nothing after an update At least erase the thumbnails if your great programmers cant do a proper update and keep my downloaded library pretty sloppy programming        Bad updates

As an art teacher I find this app worth every penny One problem when I updated my iPad a lot of my cached images were wiped off and I could not access them until I get back on wifi Great resolution and variety though              Great App

It is great to have this great database at your fingertipseven though the organization is laughable and the navigation is terrible It took me a while to discover that there is a toolbar where you can choose period location etc but when it disappeared I couldnt get it back I gave up after 40minutes Perhaps someone can help me but not the instructions        Great database nerve wreckin to navigate

I love this program but I hope that bugs are corrected soon Certain artists Degas for example will not load at all and some like Seurat will only partially load Please fix these distracting bugs        Great concept but loaded with bugs

I wasted money on this thinking it was going to be some sort of grand experience instead it was like looking at pictures of artwork on google except there is more pictures on google     Useless

Most of the Dali is now missing and what is there loads painfully slowly It wasnt broken but they fixed it     Current version slow and defective

Art Authority is well worth the price An art history book would cost 5 times this price and wouldnt have near the quantity of artwork you can view on this app And art history books weigh a ton I was able to watch a shuffled slideshow of impressionists view several paintings chronologically of an artist I wasnt familiar with and look him up in wikipedia with the tap of a button while listening to my iPod music all in the comfort of my living room A couple of the photos are pixelated but the majority are beautiful Im looking forward to viewing more I also found a list of photos that I can see up close at the museums near me I like the layout of the app It is very easy to use Hope the developers keep adding to this app but with 1000 artists and 50000 pieces of art Im sure Ill keep busy for awhile Update for those giving this a bad review because it wont update it is an Apple problem with ios 6 that will be resolved I promptly received an email with this answer when I wrote Art Authority                 Beautifully inspiring
