An introduction to 299 of the most common species of insects and spiders found in North America. This app does not include moths and butterflies, which can be found in Audubon Butterflies. With in-depth information ...
I expected a lot more from Audubon and for the high price Thought this would be easier than lugging my insect field guides on hikes but the content is severely lackingI havent been able to ID most bugs I come across due to the limited content Wish they would add more     Disappointing incomplete
I enjoy using this app with my kids Great catalog for common insects out here in Utah The map needs work it should tap into the phones GPS rather than having to drag the pin across the entire map of the United States Also you can only move the pin while zoomed in 300 making the process of moving the pin rather annoying Keep the updates coming           Good start room for improvement
This app takes up too much space keeps prompting me to sign up for an account and keeps prompting me to leave a review in the app store     Just take me to the part of the app where I can browse already
Do you guys do updates Here in northwest USA we have a popular spider called a hobo              Add insects
Audobon guides offer few small photos and inaccurate specifications Somewhat worth the investment        Not the Best
You cant log in you cant search properly and the descriptions are light Some of the pictures arent even the right bug The search program I got so frustrated at not getting any results that I checked off all possibilities and STILL had ZERO results How the heck is that possible Awful and so disappointing     Not worth my time money or trouble
Love all the Audubon field guides but they are not as easy to use for beginners as Peterson Guides              Audubon
Its the best entomologyrelated app on the App Store but thats not necessarily high praise A lot of species are lacking information and photos which makes this app almost worthless to serious hobbyists or entomologists The fact that it is an app and a rather expensive one should make it much easier to update and add information to Get with it nobody carries books around anymore if they can avoid it              Decent
Hasnt been updated in two years Not many photos and most look very amateurish And lastly the listings just dont have much information I just looked up a centipede I found in my house and although the guide helped identify it somewhat easily I now have to go look elsewhere for actual info on it        Pretty weak
Makes looking up info while in the field easy                 Great App
I like the app though it needs increased functionality to allow for avid users to add to the marginally adequate database Ive had numerous sitings and there isnt a way to add them if theyre not already present This goes for all the Audubon apps which I have purchased several Spiders moths birds and others Please improve This latest version has been worse The location is always wrong and you have to drag the pin all the way across the country because it doesnt save your location There are thousands of different spiders and this app has about 20 listed        Not bad but Then gotten worse
No updates in almost two years Spider content is sorely lacking           No updates
Forces you to create an account even if you are just logging stuff for personal use on your own Iphone Content in many areas is very skimpy Dragonflys for example only includes a very small number of them No obvious way to add other Dragonflys into the ones in their list     More than a little annoying mediocre content
No ios 5 support           Ok but
I downloaded this app to use for insect ID for horticultural and home purposes and have found it very useful it gives you several ways to figure out how to identify an insect example shape family etc                 good app
You dont get much from any of the Audubon apps and whats worse is there is no support Someone is collecting however no help with issues It always ask you to sign up but all user names etc are used If you forget your password they say they will email it Still waiting 3 months later Buyer beware     Audubon apps
Great for figuring what I find in the yard              Love the bugs
Excellent accounts for each species But this guide should be broken into regional guides with a greater depth of species        Too broad too few species
I am hoping such a well respected organization as Audubon will work on this app and improve it Very few beetles and likely other insects as well Not able to use this to find most of the beetles I have in Pennsylvania They should be ashamed of this poor product Very difficult to mark what you find with a location     Big disappointment
Great app Use it a lot in conjunction with the birds guide              Audubon app
Great app                 Amazing
Thanks for the update but please dont hide the status bar or at least make an option to not hide it I use that area for gestures        Please dont hide the status bar
I have several Audubon apps on my smartphone as a resource to identify what I see off my back porch Very satisfied with the app sitings log                 Backyard Naturalist
I can only assume that the makers of this app are banking on the Audubon society name to sell this app It is very very slim on content and laughably sparse in the included insects For instance it only includes one type of mayfly and has essentially no description of it just a picture I would not buy it     Disappointment
This guide is more like an introduction Theres all of 35 spiders to look at That says a lot I probably have more than 35 varieties in my backyard The UI is nice The pictures and descriptions are good But this app is really really limited as far as the number of insects This app is NOTHING like the Audubon guide books Buy those instead        Pretty Disappointing
This app has most of the common bugs you might find but almost every time Ive used it to identify something I dont know its not here Very few bugs actually on the app definitely not worth the money        Needs more entries
I am hoping that you update this app with many more insects and spiders What about the sounds of the cicadas crickets katydids and any other sounds that are made What about videos of them in action           Disappointed
Ill have to echo the other bad reviews Very little information and poor pictures I think they are cruising on the Audubon title I would not waste my money if given another chance        No good
Usually only one image no map range and only a portion of NA insects Didnt even have a redshouldered bug Jadera haematoloma Very disappointing waste of money        Terrible
I dont want to create an account I just want to view the data It stinks to be nagged every time especially in a paid app     A little annoying
Easy to use Accurate Contains most of the species I have tried to identify                 Great app
Has aided me in identifying many critters A lot of the negative comments I have read sound like a combination of user error and bad luck Ive had this app for several months and I have had no problems                 Great app
I have all the Audubon apps and I have to say while the content is by no means complete it is adequate However I see no concerted effort to improve listing completeness In addition functionality is marginal You can expect performance failure and new problems keep emerging with new revs Today the Insects app would not let me assign a sighting to a list even though the lists are present from previous sightings and the other apps are working fine This is a high app so you should expect high performance and its just not there I also recently had an issue requiring tech support The tool automatically assigned an invalid location from the location service that doesnt exist in my state Tech support response go fix it on line instead of fixing the utility and advising its fixed     Poor quality updates not tested
This apps doesnt even scratch the surface with the bugs that our out there Good pictures though     Good introduction app
The experience starts horrible and goes downhill from there     Instant Regret
I love ALL of the Audubon field guide apps They all work wonderfully and it sure beats lugging all the books I used to carry along I love playing the voice and often get a reply from the critters Im looking at How awesome is that Ive never had a problem logging in or crashing and I love the life lists Five star apps All of them                 Fantastic
When in the field or on a couch this app is a very helpful tool The photos are sharp and colors real My interest is wide and here in central Kansas the insect and spider diversity is immense especially near small streams adjoining our field crops The Help Desk has been gracious to aid my inquiries about varieties that are new to me and to point out individual sex differences I really enjoy having this app and think it is a wonderful tool to educate children and encourage them to explore I grew up loving the life in and near the pools of flowing creeks Dragonflies beetles butterflies and moths still engage my fascination to fill my summers with discovery                 Excellent tool
A nice app to look at with some good information but I must agree with many other reviewersit needs content With millions of insects out there this doesnt even scratch the surface There are some very basic common insects that are not included They have put all their recent effort into making the app more social I didnt buy the app to share what ive seen I bought it for info on insects They have not added a single species since October 2011 Keep updating with new species           Nice start but
I found this app to be extremely light on the insects in its database Only six centipedes The descriptions of the insects is also very light Some of the insects are very cool and do amazing things but this info is left out This could be a great learning tool but falls very short It could be improved with much longer descriptions links to online resources and importing of photos to help match your insect        Very light on insects
I am very happy with the recent updates I hope that we will see an iOS 7 native update soon as well              iOS 7
My 5 year old knows the names identifies more bugs then this app contains Not worth the space Audubon should be ashamed at having their name associated with this app Very mis leading Those ranking this high have to be paid reviews no one in their right mind would give this a good rating Nice IF they would add real content and make sure it identifies the insects correctly in the pictures Very sad I had hopes     Huge lack of content
All Audubon apps are impossible for me to sign into Ive tried contacting customer support and while they do reply their help is useless Dont waist your money     Cant get in
This is AWESOME It is the best                 great
First I am not in Vermont Honest Why wont you let me change it Second where are all the bugs I thought perhaps this app just had a crappy search function or weird data that unnecessarily constricted search results but after finding the scientific name of the moth I was trying to identify by searching via description online thank you Google then searching DIRECTLY for it discovered it is nowhere in the app I PAID for this app Im INCREDIBLY disappointed that the database of insects included is more the size of a free preview If the number of specimens is not going to increase Im deleting this app and Id like my money back The whole reason I bought ALL your field guide apps is because a Im tired of keeping all the hard copy field guides in the car all the time b sometimes Im nowhere near my car c its hard to carry all the books with me kinda heavy and d sometimes Im out in the wilderness with no internet access and wanted an app I could rely on when Google search was unavailable This app isnt it     Please tell me improvements are coming
There are around 4000 known species of spiders in the US and Canada Less than 1 of these can be found on this app 35 to be exact I only wish I had read the reviews before I threw my money away Youve made it this far Dont throw away yours     Waste of money
Was so excited for this LONG overdue app update but am severely disappointed Its very crashhappy I cant get past the main menu screen Running iOS 511     Disappointed
Since update crashes when you press button to load guide     Does not work
Great site always find the bugs or spiders Im looking for                 This really bugs me
This promising app is hard to use It has a poor search engine never remembers my login from use to use and is devilishly hard to place sightings I expect more from Audubon        Hard to use
Every time you open the app it prompts you to join the nature share community It is EXTREMELY frustrating to have to go through this every single time I can understand asking once I wish I had my money back Its so annoying I dont even want to use it     Very annoying
